How does Simple Magnets work?

5 parts

Same as in the Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 guide

Simple Magnets keeps things simple: there are no multiblocks or machine networks to build here. You get magnets that pull in dropped items and experience around you while they are switched on, and coils that stop magnets from grabbing items in an area.[1][2]

The magnets

The Basicmagnet picks up items and experience within a fixed radius. In this pack that radius is 5 blocks, set by General.basicMagnetRange.[1][2][3][4]

The Advancedmagnet does the same job, but you choose its range. By default it reaches 8 blocks (General.advancedMagnetRange). You can set it anywhere between a minimum of 3 (General.advancedMagnetMinRange) and a maximum of 11 (General.advancedMagnetMaxRange). Range for items and for experience can be configured individually.[2][3][4]

Both magnets also work in Baubles or Curios slots, and you can toggle them with a key bind instead of holding them.[2]

Switching a magnet on and off

  1. Select the magnet in your hotbar.[2]
  2. Right-click with it to turn it on or off.[2]

By default the game plays a ding when you toggle (Client.playToggleSound) and shows an on-screen message (Client.showToggleMessage). Both are enabled in this pack.[3]

Advanced Magnet GUI and filtering

To open the Advanced Magnet's GUI, hold it in your hotbar and Shift-Right-Click. That is where you adjust ranges and set up item filters.[2]

  1. Open the Advanced Magnet's GUI.[2]
  2. Click one of the filter slots while holding the item you want to filter.[2]
  3. Switch the filter between whitelist and blacklist.[2]
  4. Choose whether the filter should match NBT data or not.[2]

Demagnetization coils

Coils are placed blocks that stop magnets from attracting items near them. This is handy for keeping a farm's output or a sorting area from being vacuumed up by your own magnet.[1][2]

The Basic Demagnetization Coil defaults to a range of 2 blocks ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]]) and can be adjusted from 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) up to 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[2][3][4]

The Advanced Demagnetization Coil defaults to 3 blocks ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]]) and can be adjusted from 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) up to 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[2][3][4]

Tip: Filtering is a config switch for each coil. In this pack the basic coil has filtering turned off ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]]) and the advanced coil has it turned on ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]]). If you want to block only certain items, use the advanced coil.[1][3]
  1. Look at the coil with an empty hand.[2]
  2. Right-click it to open its GUI and adjust the range (and the filter, if the coil supports it).[2]

While you look at a coil, its range is highlighted so you can see what it covers. This is controlled by Client.showDemagnetizationArea, which is enabled in this pack.[3]

Which Simple Magnets config options matter?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Good news: Simple Magnets has just one config file, and in this pack every value in it is the mod's default. The pack changed nothing here, so you get the stock behavior. Here are the options you're most likely to touch, with the exact values the pack uses.[5]

Magnet ranges

Tip: The Advanced Magnet tops out at 11 blocks in this pack, matching the mod's own description. If you want a bigger vacuum, raise the max range in the config. The file allows up to 20.[2][5]

Demagnetization coils

Coils stop items from being pulled in by magnets. Their ranges and filtering are configurable, and the allowed range for all coil range options is 1 to 10.[2][5]

  • Basic coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilRange]] is 2, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 3 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilMaxRange]]).[5]
  • Advanced coil: [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilRange]] is 3, with a minimum of 1 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMinRange]]) and a maximum of 5 ([[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilMaxRange]]).[5]
  • [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.basicCoilFilter]] is false, so the Basic coil can't filter items. [[config:config/simplemagnets-common.toml#General.Demagnetization Coils.advancedCoilFilter]] is true, so the Advanced coil can.[2][5]

Client options

These are all quality-of-life toggles, and all of them are true in this pack. Switch any of them to false if it bugs you.[5]
