What is Enchantment Limiter?
Enchantment Limiter is part of the pack, at version 3.0.7 (the file is enchantlimiter-3.0.7.jar). It has been in the pack since version 0.0.46.0 or earlier, so it isn't a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The details of what Enchantment Limiter does and how it behaves in this pack could not be confirmed from the pack files available for this guide, so this page doesn't describe its mechanics or settings.
How do you get started with Enchantment Limiter?
3 parts
Enchantment Limiter turns enchanting into a budget. Every item has a pool of enchantment points, and each enchantment you add spends some of them. The crystals are how you make that pool bigger, so they are the first things to craft here.[2][3]
Check your starting budget
In this pack an item starts with 20 points, set by [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.base points]]. The pack also sets [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.points per enchantability]] to 0, so an item's own enchantability adds nothing extra to that pool (the mod default is 0.5).[3]
Costs are set per enchantment. Adding a new enchantment has a base cost of 0 by default, and each extra level costs 1. The pack overrides a few enchantments: Mending has a base cost of 8 and no per-level cost, Sharpness costs 1 plus 1 per level, and Vanishing Curse has a base cost of -4, so it gives points back.[3]
Craft the crystals in order
The crystals form a chain of four tiers, and each tier is built from the one before it. Start with the Common Crystal. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default, so use the one below.[4]

Next comes the Uncommon Crystal, which uses a Common Crystal as its base. This recipe is also changed by the pack.[4]

The Rare Crystal and Legendary Crystal are not in the base mod. The pack adds both recipes, and they are a big step up in cost. The Rare Crystal is made from Uncommon Crystals, and the Legendary Crystal from Rare Crystals, so you can't skip tiers.[4]

Why the order matters
The pack makes each tier worth far more than the mod's defaults. Here are the values from the config, with the defaults in brackets:[3]
- Common: 5 (default 1), set by crystals.common_crystal_value.[3]
- Uncommon: 20 (default 3), set by crystals.uncommon_crystal_value.[3]
- Rare: 100 (default 5), set by crystals.rare_crystal_value.[3]
- Legendary: 980 (default 10), set by crystals.legendary_crystal_value.[3]
Each crystal's tooltip says it increases enchantment capacity by a number of points, so hover over one in your inventory to see what it gives you.[2]
Unverified How you apply a crystal to an item is not confirmed in the available sources, so check in-game before you spend rare materials.
How does Enchantment Limiter work?
6 parts
In this pack, Enchantment Limiter works as a points budget: every item has a pool of enchantment points, and enchantments spend them. The whole mod can be switched off with general.enabled, which is on in this pack.[3]
The point budget
An item starts with the number of points set in [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.base points]]. This pack keeps it at 20, which is also the mod's default.[3]
The mod can also add points based on an item's own enchantability, using [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.points per enchantability]]. The mod default is 0.5 per point, but this pack sets it to 0, so enchantability adds nothing to the pool here.[3]
What enchantments cost
Adding a new enchantment to an item costs the base cost from [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.base cost]], which is 0 in this pack. Each level on an existing enchantment costs the incremental cost from [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.incremental cost]], which is 1 here. A level 1 enchantment pays both the base cost and the incremental cost once each.[3]
The pack also overrides the cost of a few specific enchantments in enchantability.enchantments. Each entry reads name, base cost, incremental cost:[3]
- minecraft:mending: base cost 8, incremental cost 0.[3]
- minecraft:sharpness: base cost 1, incremental cost 1.[3]
- minecraft:vanishing_curse: base cost -4, incremental cost 0.[3]
enchantability.granularity is set to 0.1. If a point total lands within that distance of a whole number, it is rounded to the whole number. That lets you use clean fractions like 1/3 or 1/7 as incremental costs. The list in [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.blacklisted enchantments]] is empty in this pack.[3]
Items with their own cap
[[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.custom items]] gives certain items their own enchantment point cap. The format is name, base enchantability, increment per extra point of enchantability. The pack lists the matc crystals, the exdeorum meshes (string, flint, iron, golden, diamond and netherite) and the kubejs allthemodium and vibranium meshes. Every one of them is set to 2 with an increment of 0.[3]
Crystals
Crystals are the way you raise capacity. Their tooltips say they increase enchantment capacity by a number of points. The tiers are Common Crystal, Uncommon Crystal, Rare Crystal and Legendary Crystal. They can be turned off entirely with [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#crystals.enable crystals]], which is on in this pack.[2][3]
This pack changes the value of every tier, and the gaps are big:[3]
- Common: 5 points instead of the default 1 (crystals.common_crystal_value).[3]
- Uncommon: 20 points instead of the default 3 (crystals.uncommon_crystal_value).[3]
- Rare: 100 points instead of the default 5 (crystals.rare_crystal_value).[3]
- Legendary: 980 points instead of the default 10 (crystals.legendary_crystal_value).[3]
Crafting the crystals
Each tier is crafted from the one before it. The pack changed the Common and Uncommon recipes and added the Rare and Legendary ones itself.[4]

Crystal blacklist and tooltips
[[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#crystals.crystal blacklist]] accepts exact items, tags (written tag:namespace:path) and whole namespaces (written modid:*). The pack's list is exdeorum:*, kubejs:allthemodium_mesh, kubejs:vibranium_mesh and matc:*.[3]
The pack also sets the tooltip options. tooltip.show_only_number is true, so the tooltip shows a single number instead of used/total. Enchanted items and books show the points consumed, and non-enchanted items show the total. tooltip.positive_color_red is true, so positive values are red and negative values are green.[3]
How do you progress through Enchantment Limiter?
3 parts
In this pack the mod's progression is a chain of crystals, from lowest to highest: Common Crystal, Uncommon Crystal, Rare Crystal and Legendary Crystal. Every crystal after the Common one is crafted from the crystal below it, so you climb them in order.[4]
Common and Uncommon
The Common and Uncommon recipes are ones the pack has changed from the mod's own. Don't rely on a recipe you remember from the mod's defaults, because the ones below are what this pack uses. The Uncommon Crystal is built from the Common one.[4]

Recipe id: enchantlimiter:uncommon_crystal
Pack-changed recipe. It consumes a Common Crystal.
Rare
The Rare Crystal recipe is added by the pack through a KubeJS script. It is a 3x3 crafting recipe with the Uncommon Crystal in the corners, so you need the previous tier ready first.[4][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/enchantlimiter_rare_crystal
Added by the pack, not part of the mod's own recipes.
Legendary
The top tier is also a pack addition from the same script. It is another 3x3 recipe, with the Rare Crystal in the corners, so the whole chain has to be completed before you can make it.[4][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/enchantlimiter_legendary_crystal
Added by the pack, not part of the mod's own recipes.
How does Enchantment Limiter work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, Enchantment Limiter connects to other mods through crafting recipes that the pack adds itself with a KubeJS script. Both are shaped crafting recipes, and they tie the higher crystal tiers to Allthemodium, Extended Crafting and the pack's own Infinity items.[4][5]
Rare Crystal
The Rare Crystal is crafted from the Uncommon Crystal together with the Allthemodium Block from Allthemodium and the pack's Infinity 4 item.[4][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/enchantlimiter_rare_crystal
Added by the pack, so this is the pack's recipe for the Rare Crystal.
Legendary Crystal
The Legendary Crystal builds on the Rare Crystal. Its recipe brings in The Ultimate Block from Extended Crafting and the pack's Infinity 9 item.[4][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: minecraft:kjs/enchantlimiter_legendary_crystal
Also added by the pack.
Which Enchantment Limiter config options matter?
3 parts
Enchantment Limiter gives each item a pool of enchantment points, and enchantments spend them. This pack keeps the main settings in its server config, with a small client config for tooltips. Several values differ from the mod defaults, so here is what this pack actually uses.[3][6]
Enchantment points
- general.enabled is true, so the limiter is on globally. That matches the default.[3]
- [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.base points]] is 20, which is also the mod default. This is how many points an item starts with.[3]
- [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.points per enchantability]] is 0 in this pack. The mod default is 0.5. The option controls how much each point of an item's enchantability adds to its point pool, so in this pack it adds nothing.[3]
- [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.base cost]] is 0, the same as the default. It is the cost to add a new enchantment onto an item.[3]
- [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.incremental cost]] is 1. It is the cost to add one level to an existing enchantment on the item. An enchantment with level 1 applies both the base cost and the incremental cost, once each.[3]
- enchantability.enchantments overrides costs for specific enchantments, written as name, base cost, incremental cost. Mending is 8 and 0, sharpness is 1 and 1, and vanishing curse is -4 and 0.[3]
- [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.blacklisted enchantments]] is empty, so no enchantment is blacklisted.[3]
- enchantability.granularity is 0.1. If a point total lands within that distance of a whole number, it is rounded to the whole number.[3]
- [[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#enchantability.custom items]] gives certain items their own point cap, written as name, base enchantability, increment. The pack sets every entry to 2 and 0. They are the matc crystals (inferium, prudentium, tertium, imperium and supremium), the Ex Deorum meshes (string, flint, iron, golden, diamond and netherite), and the kubejs allthemodium and vibranium meshes.[3]
Crystals
[[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#crystals.enable crystals]] is true, so crystal items stay enabled. The pack raised the crystal values well above the defaults:[3]
- crystals.common_crystal_value: 5 (default 1).[3]
- crystals.uncommon_crystal_value: 20 (default 3).[3]
- crystals.rare_crystal_value: 100 (default 5).[3]
- crystals.legendary_crystal_value: 980 (default 10).[3]
[[config:defaultconfigs/enchantlimiter-server.toml#crystals.crystal blacklist]] lists everything from the exdeorum and matc namespaces, plus the kubejs allthemodium mesh and vibranium mesh. Entries can be an exact item, a tag, or a whole namespace with a wildcard.[3]
Tooltips
In the client config, tooltip.show_only_number is true. Its default there is false, so the pack changed it. It shows a single number on book tooltips instead of used/total. tooltip.positive_color_red is true, which is the default. Positive point values show in red and negative values in green.[6]
The server config has its own tooltip.show_only_number and tooltip.positive_color_red, both true. With the number-only option on, enchanted items and books show the points they consume, and non-enchanted items show their total.[3]
