What is Starbunclemania?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.14 guide

Starbunclemania is part of this pack, which ships version 1.5.1 of the mod (file starbunclemania-1.21.1-1.5.1.jar). It has been in the pack since version 3.0 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what Starbunclemania does or who it is aimed at, so I can't tell you about its features or mechanics here. They also don't show any quests in this pack that involve it, and they don't place it on the ATM Star path, so I can't say where it fits in the pack's progression.

How do you get started with Starbunclemania?

6 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Starbunclemania is all about giving your Starbuncles new jobs. Each job item changes what a Starbuncle does when you use it on one, so the first things to make are the ones that put your Starbuncles to work. Here is the order I'd go in.[2]

First: Starminer

Start with the Starminer. It changes a Starbuncle's job to mine blocks in specified spots, and you can give it a tool to use (it defaults to an iron pick). The pack changed this recipe from the mod's version, so go by the one below.[2][3]

Tip: Every one of these job items can also be used as a simple cosmetic. Sneak while using it and the Starbuncle keeps its current behavior.[2]

Then: Fluid Jar and Starbucket

To move fluids, you first need a Fluid Containment Jar. The pack changed this recipe too. The jar is also an ingredient in the Starbucket, which changes a Starbuncle's job to transport fluids around.[2][3]

Fluid Starbuncles are tuned in the server config. In this pack the transfer rate is set by [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbucket_ratio]] at 1,000, and the check threshold by [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbucket_threshold]] at 250. Lower the threshold if you want them to check and fill more often.[4]

Then: StarbAttery

The StarbAttery changes a Starbuncle's job to transport FE energy around. The pack changed its recipe as well. Its transfer rate is [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbattery_ratio]], set to 100,000 in this pack.[2][3][4]

How does Starbunclemania work?

6 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Starbunclemania is built around a simple idea: you swap a Starbuncle's job by using an item on it. Instead of moving items, it can move fluids, energy or chemicals, mine, place blocks or void items. Everything below is what the sources show for this pack.[2]

Changing a Starbuncle's job

  • Starbucket changes the job to transporting fluids.[2]
  • StarbAttery changes the job to transporting FE energy.[2]
  • Starballoon changes the job to transporting Mekanism chemicals. It can be dyed, and it supports Starbuncle, Drygmy and Wixie familiars.[2]
  • Starbuilder changes the job to placing blocks in specified spots.[2]
  • Starminer changes the job to mining blocks in specified spots. You can give it a tool to use, and it defaults to an iron pick.[2]
  • StarBin changes the job to voiding the items it picks up, and items from linked chests.[2]
  • Square Robin Mask does not replace the job. It tweaks the Starbuncle's item transport to round-robin items between inventories, and it also stops pickup.[2]
Tip: All of these can be used as a plain cosmetic by sneaking while using them, which leaves the Starbuncle's current behavior unchanged.[2]

The pack changed the recipes for the StarbAttery, the StarBin, the Starbuilder and the Starminer, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here they are as the pack has them.[3]

Transfer rates and thresholds

The fluid, energy and gas transport jobs each have a ratio (the transfer rate) and a threshold in the server config. The config says to lower a threshold if you need these Starbuncles to check and fill more often. The values listed below are the ones this pack uses, and they match the mod defaults.[4]

  • Fluid Starbuncles: [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbucket_ratio]] is 1,000 and [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbucket_threshold]] is 250.[4]
  • Energy Starbuncles: [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbattery_ratio]] is 100,000 and [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbattery_threshold]] is 1,000.[4]
  • Gas Starbuncles: [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starballoon_ratio]] is 1,000 and [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starballoon_threshold]] is 250.[4]

Fluids and Source

The Fluid Containment Jar is the mod's fluid container, and its block is named Fluid Containment Jar. The pack changed its recipe. The [[config:config/starbunclemania-common.toml#General Configs.mob_jar_render]] option controls whether the mob jar fluid is rendered, and it is on in this pack.[2][3][5]

The Source Condenser turns Source into liquid Source. [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.source_condense_cost]] sets the Source cost to make a bucket of liquid source, and the pack keeps the default of 1,000. The recipe combines a Source Relay with a Fluid Jar.[3][4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: starbunclemania:source_condenser

The Fluid Sourcelink converts fluid into Source. [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.fluid_to_source]] sets how much Source each milli-bucket of a fluid is worth, using entries like "minecraft:lava=1.6". The pack leaves that list empty.[3][4]

Wixie cauldrons

You use a Wixie Charm on a block to let Wixies work with its recipes. The tooltips list these setups:[2]

  • Furnace: Wixies use smelting and smoking recipes.[2]
  • Stonecutter: Wixies use stonecutter recipes.[2]
  • Cutting Board: Wixies use cutting board recipes.[2]
  • Cooking Pot: Wixies use cooking pot recipes.[2]
  • Crucible: Wixies use Eidolon's crucible recipes.[2]
  • Fluid Jar (the Wixie Mixer): Wixies use the milk and water in the side tanks for crafting recipes instead of buckets.[2]

Fluid glyphs

The mod adds spell glyphs for Ars Nouveau. Glyph Pickup Fluid picks up fluids from the world and fills a tank in your hotbar or next to the turret. Glyph Place Fluid places fluid in the world, draining from a tank in the hotbar or next to the turret.[2][3]

Pickup Fluid costs 80 (general.cost) and Place Fluid costs 20 (general.cost). Both match the mod defaults, and the pack sets no augment limits, cost overrides or invalid combinations for either.[6][7]

Both glyphs are enabled and neither is a starter glyph. Their tier is set by general.glyph_tier and general.glyph_tier, and the pack keeps the default of 2 for both.[6][7]

Glyph (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: starbunclemania:glyph_pickup_fluid

Glyph (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: starbunclemania:glyph_place_fluid

Some augments have special descriptions on these glyphs. Sensitive makes Pickup Fluid target the block hit directly instead of the relative position, and makes Place Fluid place the fluid inside the block hit instead of relative to it. AOE increases the radius of targeted blocks, Pierce increases their depth, and Randomize adds a chance to not target a block.[2]

How do you progress through Starbunclemania?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Starbunclemania has no step-by-step ladder in this pack. The recipes do show a rough order, though, from simple crafting-table gear up to Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus. Treat the tiers below as a suggested path built from the recipe types, not an official one.[3]

Unverified No quests in this pack cover this mod, and no in-jar guidebook was found, so the order below is inferred from the recipes rather than from a quest line.

Crafting-table utility gear

Start with the utility items the pack has changed: StarBin, Starminer, Starbuilder and StarbAttery. The pack changes the recipe for each of them, so don't trust a mod-default recipe from another source. The exact in-pack recipes are below.[3]

How does Starbunclemania work with other mods?

3 parts

Starbunclemania is closely tied to Ars Nouveau in this pack. Nearly every recipe from the mod takes at least one Ars Nouveau item, so you'll be working through that mod to get at most of what Starbunclemania offers. The recipe dump also shows a pack-made machine recipe that connects it to the source fluid from the sauce mod.[8]

Alakakrinos Hat, Blues Hat, Starby Ears, Drygmy Horns, Whirli Propeller and Sea Bunny are all crafted at a normal crafting table from Magebloom Fiber plus a vanilla item. Square Robin Mask builds on Ars Nouveau's Starbuncle Shades and green wool.[8]

Starballoon is different: it is made in Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus rather than at a crafting table.[8]

StarballoonMod recipe

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

The scrolls also lean on Ars Nouveau. Direction Scroll, Fluid Scroll: Allow and Fluid Scroll: Deny all start from Blank Parchment, and both fluid scrolls also need Water Essence.[8]

The mod also adds a spell glyph, Glyph Place Fluid, which uses Ars Nouveau's own glyph recipe type and takes Water Essence.[8]

Which Starbunclemania config options matter?

4 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

Here's the quick version: for every option in the files below that lists a mod default, the pack's value is the same as that default. Nothing has been tweaked, so you can follow the mod's normal behaviour and only change things if you want to.[9][10][11]

Starbuncle transfer settings

These live in config/starbunclemania-server.toml. Each kind of transfer starbuncle has a ratio (its transfer rate) and a threshold. Here's what the pack uses:[11]

  • Fluid starbuncles: [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbucket_ratio]] is 1000 and [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbucket_threshold]] is 250.[11]
  • Gas starbuncles: [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starballoon_ratio]] is 1000 and [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starballoon_threshold]] is 250.[11]
  • Energy starbuncles: [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbattery_ratio]] is 100,000 and [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.starbattery_threshold]] is 1000.[11]
Tip: If your starbuncles feel slow to top things up, lower the matching threshold option. The config describes it as the setting to lower when you need them to check and fill more often.[11]

Source and fluids

[[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.source_condense_cost]] is the source cost to make a bucket of liquid source, and the pack keeps it at 1000. [[config:config/starbunclemania-server.toml#General Configs.fluid_to_source]] sets the value of a milli-bucket of fluid converted into source by the sourcelink, with an example entry of minecraft:lava=1.6. The pack leaves it as an empty list, so it adds no custom entries.[11]

Fluid glyphs

Each fluid glyph has its own file in config/starbunclemania. general.enabled and general.enabled are both true, so both glyphs are on.[9][10]

general.glyph_tier and general.glyph_tier are both set to 2. general.starter and general.starter are both false, so neither is a starter glyph.[9][10]

general.per_spell_limit and general.per_spell_limit are both 2,147,483,647, which is effectively no limit on how many times each glyph can appear in one spell.[9][10]

The augment cost overrides, augment limits and invalid combos options (for example general.augment_cost_overrides, general.augment_limits and general.invalid_combos) are all empty lists for both glyphs, so the pack adds no extra restrictions or cost changes to them.[9][10]

Rendering

[[config:config/starbunclemania-common.toml#General Configs.mob_jar_render]] enables rendering of the mob jar fluid, and the pack sets it to true.[12]
