What is ME Requester?

3 parts

ME Requester is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that keeps items and fluids in stock in your ME system. You tell it what you want and how much, and it asks your system to craft more whenever the stock drops too low. This pack includes ME Requester 1.21.1-1.5.0.[1][2][3]

How it works

Place a Requester and connect it to the same network as your autocrafting setup, the one with your Crafting CPUs. Each row of its GUI is one request: you set what to stock, the amount to stock, and a batch size. When the current stock falls below the amount, the Requester asks for more in one batch instead of many small jobs.[3]

The Requester only automates the asking. The thing you want still needs a pattern in your ME system, because the system does the actual crafting.[3]

The mod's own page lists 5 requests per Requester by default, and says the slot count, channel and idle energy usage can all be configured. The sources don't show whether this pack changes those defaults.[1]

The terminal

The mod also adds a terminal that gives you access to every Requester on the same network from one place. You can search for a specific request. All Requesters share the same name by default, so their requests are grouped under one header. If you want separate groups, rename the Requesters in an anvil.[1][3]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack's quest book has the Storage chapter in the group "Forgotten Knowledge". It is chapter 17 of 22 and holds 108 quests. The quests I can see there don't give ME Requester a quest of its own, but the mod is named in the "Quantum Crafter" quest quest. That quest comes after "Quantum Autocrafting" and covers Quantum Crafter.[4]

According to that quest, the Quantum Crafter acts like a Molecular Assembler, a Pattern Provider and an ME Requester all in one. It can keep stock on multiple items at once, and it can store only 9 patterns in total.[4]

Most of the Storage chapter's quests aren't shown in the sources I have, so check the quest book for what they say.[4]

How do you get started with ME Requester?

6 parts

ME Requester is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2 that keeps items and fluids in stock in your ME system. The first steps are short: make the ME Requester, put it on your network, then add the terminals.[1]

Step 1: Make the ME Requester

The ME Requester is the block that does the work, so it comes first. Its recipe is the mod's own, and the pack has not changed it.[5]

Step 2: Put it on a network that can autocraft

Place the Requester and connect it to your network. Make sure it is on the same network as your autocrafting logic, which should host your Crafting CPUs. The Requester only automates the requesting itself, and your ME system does the crafting.[3]

Items or fluids you want kept in stock need a pattern, and they must be craftable when you request them as a player. A green Idling status means the target amount is already reached or there is no pattern for that request. A yellow Crafting status means the system is currently crafting the requested item or fluid.[3][6]

The pack's config also has the Requester need an ME channel to work. This is requester.require_channel, set to true. A single Requester holds 5 requests, which matches the mod default. You set that with requester.requests, which accepts 1 to 64. Idle energy drain is requester.idle_energy, also left at the default of 5.[7]

Setting up your first request

  1. Open the Requester. Each row is one request. The checkbox on the left toggles that row, and a disabled row runs no checks, so you can use it to temporarily pause a request.[3]
  2. Drag an item into the second column to choose what to stock. These are ghost slots, so nothing is consumed. You can also shift-click an item, or drag one in from a supported recipe viewer.[3]
  3. Type the Amount to Stock. When the stock in your system falls below this amount, the Requester will request more. Fluids use buckets, shown with a B.[3]
  4. Set the Batch Size. This is the amount requested at once when stock falls below the Amount to Stock. It can put less stress on your Crafting CPUs and machines than many individual jobs.[3]
  5. Press Enter or click the submit button on that row. If you click into another row first, the values reset to their previous state. While a request is being crafted, its settings are locked.[3][6]
Watch out: A Requester loses its configuration when you break it. You can copy its settings with a Memory Card, so do that before you move one.[6]

Step 3: Make the ME Requester Terminal

Once you have more than one Requester, walking to each one gets old fast. The ME Requester Terminal can access all Requesters in the same network from a central point. It has the same features as the Requester and lets you search for a specific request.[3][6]

The terminal is crafted from a Requester, so make that first.[5]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: merequester:requester_terminal

Requesters share the same name by default, so their requests are grouped under one header in the terminal. If you want a separate group, you can rename a Requester in an anvil.[3]

Step 4: Take it wireless

When you want the terminal away from your base, craft the Wireless Requester Terminal. This is one recipe the pack has changed from the mod's version, so use the one shown here.[5]

In the quest book

The Storage chapter is in the group Forgotten Knowledge and is chapter 17 of 22 in the book. It covers digital storage, and its ME Requester mention is in "Quantum Crafter" quest. That quest follows Quantum Autocrafting and describes a Quantum Crafter that can also keep items in stock like an ME Requester. Plenty of quests in this chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[4]

How does ME Requester work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The ME Requester keeps items and fluids in stock inside your Applied Energistics 2 ME system. You tell it what you want and how much. While a request is enabled, it asks your network to craft more whenever the stock falls below that amount. It only automates the requesting. The crafting itself is still done by your ME system. You can also temporarily disable a single request if you need to.[1][8]

Setting it up

Place the requester and connect it to your network. Make sure it is the same network where your autocrafting logic is currently located, the one that hosts your Crafting CPUs.[8]

Watch out: The requester can only stock things your system knows how to craft. Whatever you want kept in stock needs a pattern, so that you could also request it as a player. If an item or fluid has no pattern, the requester just idles.[8][9]

One requester hosts 5 requests by default, and every row of its GUI is one request. You can place as many requesters as you like. The mod lets you configure the number of slots per block, its channel usage and its idle energy usage.[1][8]

Unverified Those settings are adjustable in the mod's config, but the sources here do not show a config file for this mod in the pack, so whether the pack changes the default of 5 slots, the channel usage or the idle energy usage is not confirmed.

Anatomy of a request row

  • Toggle checkbox: turns that one request on or off. While it is off, no checks run and the stock isn't maintained. It's handy for temporarily pausing a request, or for stopping the requester from emitting crafting jobs while you're still editing a row.[8]
  • What to stock: a ghost slot that does not hold actual items. Drag an item in and right click to set the amount to 1, or left click to use the amount of the stack you're dragging. With a fluid bucket, right click sets the contained fluid and left click sets the bucket itself. Shift-click also sets the item type quickly, and you can drag from recipe viewers that Applied Energistics supports.[8]
  • Amount to stock: the threshold. Pick what to stock first, then enter the value. For fluids the field adapts, for example showing a B for buckets. When the amount currently in stock falls below this number, the requester asks for more. The field only accepts whole numbers.[8][9]
  • Batch size: how much is requested once the amount currently in stock drops below the threshold. The full batch is requested at once instead of many small jobs, which puts less stress on your Crafting CPUs and the machines in the craft.[8]
  • Submit: press Enter or click the submit button on that row to apply your changes. Values you've typed but not submitted only belong to the row you're currently editing: clicking into any other row resets them to their previous state.[8]

Reading the status bar

The bar under the input boxes shows what each request is doing right now.[8]

  • Gray, Empty: the row is currently disabled (for example because you temporarily switched it off) or nothing to stock has been set.[8]
  • Green, Idling: the target amount is already reached, or the configured request currently has no pattern.[8][9]
  • Red, Missing Ingredients: the system is currently missing the ingredients to start the job. It carries on as soon as enough ingredients show up.[8][9]
  • Yellow, Crafting: the job is running and the requester waits for it to finish. If the system can't find a suitable CPU, the process continues once one is found.[8][9]
  • Purple, Exporting: the requester has received all results of the job and is currently trying to export them into your storage. This status is usually not visible. If it stays for a long time, your storage has no free space.[8][9]
Tip: While a request is crafting, its settings are locked and show a "Locked! Request in progress." tooltip. You have to wait for the job to finish before you can edit that row.[8][9]

The requester block changes its appearance while any of its requests is currently in a status other than idle or empty. That lets you spot active requesters at a glance.[8]

Moving and copying settings

A requester loses its configuration when you break it. You can copy its settings with a Memory Card.[9]

The terminal

The ME Requester Terminal gives you access to every requester on the same network from one place. It has the same features as the requester itself, so you can configure requests and monitor their status remotely. It also lets you search for a specific request.[1][8]

By default all requesters have the same name, so their requests are grouped under one header in the terminal. If you want separate groups, you can rename the requesters in an anvil.[8]

How do you progress through ME Requester?

5 parts

ME Requester is an add-on mod that keeps items and fluids in your ME System in stock. In this pack it adds the ME Requester, the ME Requester Terminal and the Wireless Requester Terminal. The recipe blocks below show how each one is crafted.[3][5]

Where it sits in the quest book

The AE2 questline lives in the "Storage" chapter, which is chapter 17 of 22 in the "Forgotten Knowledge" group and has 108 quests. The path runs from "Certus Quartz" quest to "Processors O' Plenty" quest, then "AE2 Processors" quest, then "Cables and Channels" quest. From Cables and Channels it branches into "Autocrafting" quest and "ME Crafting Terminal" quest.[4]

After Autocrafting come "The Autocrafting Multiblock" quest and "Quantum Autocrafting" quest. "Wireless Network Access" quest follows the ME Crafting Terminal quest.[4]

None of the quests shown in the sources ask you for a Requester item. 24 of the chapter's quests are not shown, so check the quest book itself for anything on the Requester there.[4]

Tier 1: the ME Requester

This is the block that does the work. You place it, connect it to your network, and set up rows of requests. Each row holds an item or fluid to stock, an Amount to Stock and a Batch Size. When the stock falls below your amount, it requests more. Connect it to the same network that hosts your Crafting CPUs. You can toggle a row off, for example to temporarily stop it from emitting crafting jobs while you edit it.[3]

This is the mod's own recipe, which the pack has not changed.

Watch out: The Requester only automates the requesting. Items or fluids you want kept in stock need a pattern and must be craftable when you request them as a player, because the ME system handles the crafting. While a request is currently being crafted, its settings are locked.[3]

Tier 2: the ME Requester Terminal

The terminal gives you one central screen for every Requester on the same network, with the same features as the Requester itself and a search for specific requests. All Requesters share the same name by default, so their requests are grouped under one header. If you want separate groups, you can rename the blocks in an anvil.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

A shapeless recipe from the mod itself, unchanged by the pack.

Tier 3: the Wireless Requester Terminal

The pack has changed this recipe from the mod's version, so follow the recipe below. If you also want wireless AE2 access, the Wireless Network Access quest is where the pack covers that.[4][5]

The Quantum Crafter, which comes after the Quantum Autocrafting quest, acts as a Molecular Assembler, a Pattern Provider and an ME Requester all in one. It can keep stock on multiple items at once, but it stores only 9 patterns in total.[4]

Tip: Channels matter as you add devices. With the pack's increased settings you have 32 channels per network, and the Adding More Channels quest covers the Controller for getting more.[4]

How does ME Requester work with other mods?

3 parts

ME Requester is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so almost every link to other mods in this pack goes through AE2 and its wireless terminal add-on. Here is how that shows up in the recipes and the quest book.[1][3][5]

Applied Energistics 2

The ME Requester is crafted from Applied Energistics 2 parts, plus an amethyst shard and some metal ingots. This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack has not changed it.[5]

The ME Requester Terminal is also an unchanged mod recipe. It takes your requester and combines it with AE2 parts, so you can manage requests remotely.[1][5]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: merequester:requester_terminal

The requester only handles the requesting. Crafting is done by your ME system, so connect it to the same network as your autocrafting setup. Items or fluids you want kept in stock need a pattern, and they must also be craftable if you request them as a player.[3]

Wireless terminals

The pack changes how the wireless version is made. The Wireless Requester Terminal is crafted from the ME Requester Terminal together with AE2 wireless and energy parts, and the dump marks this recipe as changed by the pack.[5]

In the quest book

The quest book mentions the requester in the "Storage" chapter, which is in the group "Forgotten Knowledge" and is chapter 17 of 22. The "Quantum Crafter" quest comes after "Quantum Autocrafting" and asks for the Quantum Crafter from Advanced AE.[4]

The quest says the Quantum Crafter acts like a Molecular Assembler, a Pattern Provider and an ME Requester all in one. It can keep multiple items in stock at once and can only store 9 patterns in total. If you like the idea of stocking items but want fewer blocks, that quest is worth reading.[4]

The "Storage" chapter has 108 quests, and many more of them are in the quest book than are covered here. Check the book for the rest.[4]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use ME Requester?

2 parts

Good news and a caveat. In the pack's quest book, ME Requester gets no quest of its own. The only place it shows up is in the text of one quest in the "Storage" chapter, which sits in the "Forgotten Knowledge" group and is chapter 17 of 22 in the book. No quest asks you to craft or hand in an item from this mod.[4]

The Quantum Crafter quest

"Quantum Crafter" quest asks you to get the Quantum Crafter. Its text says the crafter acts like a Molecular Assembler, a Pattern Provider and an ME Requester all in one. So if you want requester-style stock keeping, this is the quest that points you in that direction.[4]

The quest also says it crafts blazingly fast, can be configured to keep stock on multiple items at once, and can be upgraded with Acceleration Cards. The only limit it names is that it can store just 9 Patterns in total.[4]

Quest order leading up to it

The book sets the order with the "after" link on each quest. Working backwards from the Quantum Crafter, the path looks like this.[4]

  1. "Digital Storage" quest starts the line. It asks for the Flawless Budding Certus Quartz.[4]
  2. "Certus Quartz" quest comes after it and asks for Certus Quartz Dust and Certus Quartz Crystal.[4]
  3. "Processors O' Plenty" quest follows Certus Quartz. It covers the Circuit Fabricator multiblock, which makes processors.[4]
  4. "AE2 Processors" quest follows that and asks for the AE2 processors, such as the Engineering Processor.[4]
  5. "Cables and Channels" quest comes after AE2 Processors. It covers cables such as Fluix ME Glass Cable and how channels work.[4]
  6. A quest titled "Autocrafting" comes next in the chain. The AE2 quest with that title ("Autocrafting" quest) asks for the Crafting Unit and follows Cables and Channels. The book's link to the next quest gives only the title, and a Refined Storage quest shares it, so check the in-game quest line to confirm which one it points to.[4]
  7. "Quantum Autocrafting" quest asks for the Quantum Crafting Unit, which its text says is needed for both the Quantum Crafter and the Quantum Computer multiblock.[4]
  8. "Quantum Crafter" quest is the last step and the only quest whose text mentions ME Requester.[4]

"The Quantum Computer Core" quest also follows Quantum Autocrafting. It starts the separate Quantum Computer line, so it is a different branch from the Quantum Crafter.[4]

Which ME Requester config options matter?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The ME Requester's common config file covers how many requests it holds, how much power it drains while idle, and whether it needs a channel. Two of these the pack leaves at the mod's default. The channel option has no default listed in the pack's config data, so I can't say whether the pack changed it.[11]

  • requester.requests is set to 5 in this pack, which matches the mod default. It sets how many requests a single ME Requester can hold, and the allowed range is 1 to 64.[11]
  • requester.idle_energy is set to 5 in this pack, also the mod default. This is the amount of energy (in AE) the ME Requester drains from your ME network while idle.[11]
  • requester.require_channel is set to true in this pack. It controls whether the ME Requester requires an ME network channel to function.[11]
Tip: Each Requester holds 5 requests in this pack, so you may want several of them. You can place as many as you like and manage them all remotely through the ME Requester Terminal.[1][11]

What changed in ME Requester between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships ME Requester 1.21.1-1.5.0, and the mod has been in the pack since StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier. Here are the changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

Mod releases

  • 1.5.0 (the version in this pack): Korean and French translations were added, the Russian translation was updated, and the drag and drop slot highlights are no longer shown when a slot is locked.[2][12]
  • 1.4.3: Russian translation added. You can now enter fraction digits for fluids in Requester amounts. Cached resource amounts are now recomputed when a Requester changes grids, which was a bug before.[13]
  • 1.4.2: Missing Hungarian translations and a traditional Chinese translation were added, along with missing data on the Requester Terminal part model. The Requester Terminal also now lights up properly when you use shaders.[14]
  • 1.4.1: Fixed a crash caused by early registration.[15]
Tip: If you work with fluids, the fraction digits option added in 1.4.3 is already included in this pack, since it ships 1.5.0.[2][13]
