What is ME Requester?

3 parts

ME Requester is an Applied Energistics 2 add-on that keeps items and fluids in your ME system in stock. You set a target amount, and when your stock drops below it, the mod asks your system to craft more. No more walking over to the terminal to queue up the same craft again.[1][2]

The pack ships ME Requester 1.21.1-1.5.0 for NeoForge. The mod started life inside Lazier AE2 and was split out into its own standalone mod. It was rewritten along the way, and it now handles fluids too.[1][3]

The two blocks

  • ME Requester: the block that holds your requests. Each row is one request, and the mod's default is 5 requests per block. The slot count, channel and idle energy usage are all configurable. I can't confirm from the sources whether the pack changes these values.[1][2]
  • ME Requester Terminal: lets you configure and monitor requests remotely. You can place as many Requesters as you like, and the terminal gives you access to all the Requesters on the same network from one place.[1][2]

Who it is for

This mod is for you once you have an ME system with autocrafting running. Place the Requester on the same network as your autocrafting setup, the one with your Crafting CPUs.[2]

Watch out: The Requester only automates the requesting itself. Crafting is handled by your ME system, so the items or fluids you want to keep in stock need a pattern and must be craftable when you request them as a player.[2]

Where it fits in progression

In the pack's quest book, ME Requester appears in the ae2 chapter. The quest "Requesters" quest is completed by obtaining either the ME Requester or the ME Requester Terminal. It unlocks after another quest in the same chapter, so you reach it as you work through your AE2 progression.[4]

How do you get started with ME Requester?

5 parts

The ME Requester mod keeps items and fluids in stock on your ME system. When the stock of something falls below the amount you set, it asks your network for more. It only automates the requesting, and your ME system handles the crafting.[1][2]

The first thing to make is the ME Requester. The terminal recipe in this pack uses it as an ingredient, so start here.[5]

Place it and connect it to an ME network.[6]

Use the same network that has your autocrafting logic, which hosts your Crafting CPUs and patterns.[2]

The quest "Requesters" quest in the ae2 chapter asks you to get either the Requester or the Requester Terminal.[4]

Make sure the item can be crafted

A request only works if the item or fluid you want has a pattern in your system and can be crafted when you request it as a player. Crafting is handled by the ME system, not the Requester.[2]

If there is no crafting pattern for the request, the Requester shows the idle status.[6]

Set up your first request

  1. Open the Requester. Each row of the GUI is one request, and the checkbox on the left toggles that row. Unticking it can temporarily disable a request.[2]
  2. Drag the item or fluid into the second column. These are ghost slots, so they do not hold real items. Shift-clicking an item sets the type quickly, and you can also drag from recipe viewers that Applied Energistics supports.[2]
  3. Pick the item or fluid first, then enter the Amount to Stock. The Requester asks for more when the stock falls below this number.[2]
  4. Enter a Batch Size. That amount is requested at once when stock falls below the threshold, which puts less stress on your Crafting CPUs and machines than many individual jobs.[2]
  5. Press Enter or click the submit button on that row to apply the values. Clicking into another row resets the values to their previous state.[2]
Tip: While you are still making changes to a row, untick its checkbox. A disabled request runs no checks, so it can temporarily stop the Requester from emitting crafting jobs.[2]
Watch out: A Requester loses its configuration when you break it. You can copy its settings with a Memory Card.[6]

Craft the ME Requester Terminal

The ME Requester Terminal lets you reach all Requesters on the same network from one place. It has the same features as the Requester, plus a search for specific requests.[2][5]

This is the pack's recipe for the ME Requester Terminal.

All Requesters share the same name by default, so their requests are grouped under one header in the terminal. If you want separate groups, you can rename the Requesters in an anvil.[2]

Optional: Wireless access

There is also the Wireless Requester Terminal. The pack changes this recipe from the mod's version, so use the one below.[5]

How does ME Requester work?

6 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The ME Requester keeps items and fluids in stock inside your Applied Energistics 2 ME system. You tell it what you want and how much. While a request is enabled, it asks your network to craft more whenever the stock falls below that amount. It only automates the requesting. The crafting itself is still done by your ME system. You can also temporarily disable a single request if you need to.[1][7]

Setting it up

Place the requester and connect it to your network. Make sure it is the same network where your autocrafting logic is currently located, the one that hosts your Crafting CPUs.[7]

Watch out: The requester can only stock things your system knows how to craft. Whatever you want kept in stock needs a pattern, so that you could also request it as a player. If an item or fluid has no pattern, the requester just idles.[7][8]

One requester hosts 5 requests by default, and every row of its GUI is one request. You can place as many requesters as you like. The mod lets you configure the number of slots per block, its channel usage and its idle energy usage.[1][7]

Unverified Those settings are adjustable in the mod's config, but the sources here do not show a config file for this mod in the pack, so whether the pack changes the default of 5 slots, the channel usage or the idle energy usage is not confirmed.

Anatomy of a request row

  • Toggle checkbox: turns that one request on or off. While it is off, no checks run and the stock isn't maintained. It's handy for temporarily pausing a request, or for stopping the requester from emitting crafting jobs while you're still editing a row.[7]
  • What to stock: a ghost slot that does not hold actual items. Drag an item in and right click to set the amount to 1, or left click to use the amount of the stack you're dragging. With a fluid bucket, right click sets the contained fluid and left click sets the bucket itself. Shift-click also sets the item type quickly, and you can drag from recipe viewers that Applied Energistics supports.[7]
  • Amount to stock: the threshold. Pick what to stock first, then enter the value. For fluids the field adapts, for example showing a B for buckets. When the amount currently in stock falls below this number, the requester asks for more. The field only accepts whole numbers.[7][8]
  • Batch size: how much is requested once the amount currently in stock drops below the threshold. The full batch is requested at once instead of many small jobs, which puts less stress on your Crafting CPUs and the machines in the craft.[7]
  • Submit: press Enter or click the submit button on that row to apply your changes. Values you've typed but not submitted only belong to the row you're currently editing: clicking into any other row resets them to their previous state.[7]

Reading the status bar

The bar under the input boxes shows what each request is doing right now.[7]

  • Gray, Empty: the row is currently disabled (for example because you temporarily switched it off) or nothing to stock has been set.[7]
  • Green, Idling: the target amount is already reached, or the configured request currently has no pattern.[7][8]
  • Red, Missing Ingredients: the system is currently missing the ingredients to start the job. It carries on as soon as enough ingredients show up.[7][8]
  • Yellow, Crafting: the job is running and the requester waits for it to finish. If the system can't find a suitable CPU, the process continues once one is found.[7][8]
  • Purple, Exporting: the requester has received all results of the job and is currently trying to export them into your storage. This status is usually not visible. If it stays for a long time, your storage has no free space.[7][8]
Tip: While a request is crafting, its settings are locked and show a "Locked! Request in progress." tooltip. You have to wait for the job to finish before you can edit that row.[7][8]

The requester block changes its appearance while any of its requests is currently in a status other than idle or empty. That lets you spot active requesters at a glance.[7]

Moving and copying settings

A requester loses its configuration when you break it. You can copy its settings with a Memory Card.[8]

The terminal

The ME Requester Terminal gives you access to every requester on the same network from one place. It has the same features as the requester itself, so you can configure requests and monitor their status remotely. It also lets you search for a specific request.[1][7]

By default all requesters have the same name, so their requests are grouped under one header in the terminal. If you want separate groups, you can rename the requesters in an anvil.[7]

How do you progress through ME Requester?

4 parts

ME Requester has a short progression path in this pack. You start with the ME Requester, move up to the ME Requester Terminal, and finish with the Wireless Requester Terminal. The recipe for each step is shown below.[5]

The quest

The mod has one quest in the ae2 chapter, "Requesters" quest. It unlocks only after another quest is done. Its task accepts either the ME Requester or the ME Requester Terminal, so having either one completes it.[4]

The ME Requester

The ME Requester is the core block. You place it and connect it to your ME network, the same one that hosts your Crafting CPUs and patterns. Each row in its GUI is one request that keeps an item or fluid in stock. The checkbox on a row can temporarily disable that request, for example while you are still making changes to it. While a request is currently being crafted, the settings for that row are locked.[2]

Recipe id: merequester:requester

This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack has not changed it.

Watch out: The requester only automates the requesting. The item or fluid you want in stock still needs a pattern, and your system must be able to craft it. A green row is idling, which means its target amount is already reached or there is no pattern for it. A gray row is disabled or has nothing set to stock.[2]

The ME Requester Terminal

The ME Requester Terminal lets you reach every requester in the same network from one central screen. It has the same features as the requester and also lets you search for a specific request. That includes the row checkbox that can temporarily disable a request, and the lock on settings while a request is currently being crafted.[2][5]

All requesters share the same name by default, so their requests are grouped under one header. If you want a separate group in the terminal, rename the requesters in an anvil.[2][5]

You need a requester before you can make the terminal.[5]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: merequester:requester_terminal

This is the mod's own recipe, and the pack has not changed it.

The Wireless Requester Terminal

The Wireless Requester Terminal is the top of the path. The pack changed this recipe, so don't assume the mod's default applies. Use the recipe below.[5]

How does ME Requester work with other mods?

4 parts

ME Requester is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so its connections to other mods run through AE2 and the wireless terminals that build on it. You can see that in the recipes, in the quest, and in how the requester works with your network.[1][2][5]

How it plugs into your AE2 network

The ME Requester only automates the requesting. Your ME system still does the crafting. Place the requester on the same network as your autocrafting setup, which should host your Crafting CPUs. The items or fluids you want to keep in stock need a pattern, and they must also be craftable if you request them as a player.[2]

Crafted from AE2 parts

The ME Requester recipe is a mod recipe, so the pack has not changed it. Look for the Crafting Co-Processing Unit and the Engineering Processor in the grid below to see how it ties into AE2.[5]

Quest tie-in

The quest "Requesters" quest sits in the pack's ae2 chapter and comes after the quest 43949500F6A0B46A. Its task is to obtain either the ME Requester or the ME Requester Terminal.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use ME Requester?

2 parts

ME Requester shows up in just one quest in the pack, and it sits in the AE2 chapter. It's a short quest, so there's no long questline to follow.[4]

The AE2 chapter quest

The quest "Requesters" quest has no title in the pack files. Its task is an item task that accepts either ME Requester or ME Requester Terminal. Handing in one of the two is enough, so you can pick whichever fits your ME setup.[4]

Where it sits in the order

This quest unlocks after another quest in the same AE2 chapter. Finish that one first and this quest opens up. The pack files I have don't describe that earlier quest, so what it asks for is unverified.[4]

Unverified Rewards for the ME Requester quest aren't listed in the available pack data, so I can't say what completing it gives you.

Which ME Requester config options matter?

The ME Requester's common config file covers how many requests it holds, how much power it drains while idle, and whether it needs a channel. Two of these the pack leaves at the mod's default. The channel option has no default listed in the pack's config data, so I can't say whether the pack changed it.[10]

  • requester.requests is set to 5 in this pack, which matches the mod default. It sets how many requests a single ME Requester can hold, and the allowed range is 1 to 64.[10]
  • requester.idle_energy is set to 5 in this pack, also the mod default. This is the amount of energy (in AE) the ME Requester drains from your ME network while idle.[10]
  • requester.require_channel is set to true in this pack. It controls whether the ME Requester requires an ME network channel to function.[10]
Tip: Each Requester holds 5 requests in this pack, so you may want several of them. You can place as many as you like and manage them all remotely through the ME Requester Terminal.[1][10]

What changed in ME Requester between versions?

5 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships ME Requester 1.21.1-1.5.0, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first. They cover only some releases, so don't read them as a complete history.[3]

1.5.0 (the version in this pack)

  • Added Korean and French translations, and updated the Russian one.[11]
  • Removed the drag and drop slot highlights when a slot is locked.[11]

1.4.3

  • Added a Russian translation.[12]
  • You can now enter fraction digits for fluids in Requester amounts.[12]
  • Fixed cached resource amounts not being recomputed when a Requester changes grids.[12]

1.4.2

  • Added missing Hungarian translations and a traditional Chinese translation.[13]
  • Added missing data to the Requester Terminal part model.[13]
  • Fixed the Requester Terminal not lighting up with shaders. If you run a shader pack, this is the one you'll notice.[13]

1.4.1

  • Fixed a crash caused by early registration.[14]

1.2.0

  • The minimum Applied Energistics 2 version became 19.2.7.[15]
  • Fixed shift clicking ghost items into the Requester and Requester Terminal.[15]
  • Fixed the guide book not working properly with the standalone GuideME mod.[15]
  • Fixed a request not deactivating on toggle while it was requesting.[15]
  • Known bugs listed at that release: the scroll bar renders little sections on its background, and it is always visible.[15]
