Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 2.2.0. Adds a crafting station with JEI support ! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

1 part

The Crafting Station is a slight tweak on the normal crafting table. It keeps your items stored in the grid and displays them on top, and it can reach any neighbouring inventories, so you can craft straight from nearby chests. The idea comes originally from Tinkers Construct. This mod is a fork ported to 1.21, with some code taken from the JEI Edition.[1]

If you use JEI, the station shows the "+" icon so you can import a recipe, just like on other crafting benches. Polymorph is still supported too.[1]

The mod also has an optional blacklist for neighbouring inventories, which modpack creators can use. I can't confirm from my sources whether this pack uses it.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships version 2.1.1 of the mod. It has been in the pack since 1.1.1 or earlier.[2]

The quest book covers it in the quest "Crafting Stations" quest. That quest sits in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips", which is in the group "Forgotten Knowledge" and is chapter 18 of 22 in the book. The chapter has 24 quests. The quest asks for the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab.[3]

The quest text says the stations pick up items stored in adjacent inventories and hold items in their crafting grids. It also says they work like their Tinkers Construct version, if you remember that one.[3]

Tip: Put a station next to your storage and craft straight from the chests beside it. The grid also keeps its items, so you don't have to refill it every time.[1][3]

How do you get started with Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

3 parts

There is only one thing to make here, and it's a handy one: the Crafting Station. It's a slight tweak on the crafting table. It keeps your items stored in its crafting grid and shows them on top, and it can use items from inventories next to it.[1][3]

Step 1: Make a Crafting Station

The recipe is shapeless, so you don't need any special layout. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

Shapeless recipe, so the layout in the grid doesn't matter.

The pack's quest book covers it in the quest "Crafting Stations" quest. That quest is in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips", in the group "Forgotten Knowledge" (chapter 18 of 22 in the book). It asks for both the station and its slab, and says the station works like its Tinker's Construct version.[3]

Step 2: Make the slab

The second item the quest asks for is the Crafting Station Slab. One craft gives you 2 slabs.[3][4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

One craft makes 2 slabs.

Step 3: Put it next to your storage

The station can pick up items from inventories stored next to it, so place it beside your chests. The pack has this turned on: [[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] is set to true in the server config.[1][3][5]

Tip: If you use JEI, the crafting station gets the "+" icon to import a recipe, like any other crafting bench. The project page also says Polymorph is supported.[1]

How does Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated work?

4 parts

The Crafting Station is a slight tweak on the normal crafting table. It originally comes from Tinkers Construct. The station keeps your items stored and displays them on top of the block.[1]

Neighbouring inventories

The station also has access to any neighbouring inventories. The mod includes an optional blacklist that modpack creators can use to stop certain inventories from being used this way.[1]

This pack sets [[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] to true, so side inventories are displayed in the crafting grid.[5]

The pack also uses that blacklist. Its block tag script adds everything from Mekanism to the station's blacklisted block entity tag.[1][6]

Recipe import and Polymorph

If you use JEI, the station gets the "+" button that imports a recipe, like on other crafting benches. The project page also says Polymorph is still supported.[1]

Getting the blocks

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

This is a shapeless recipe, so there is no pattern to follow in the grid.

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

One craft gives you 2 slabs.

The Crafting Station Slab is the slab version of the station.[4][7]

Breaking them in this pack

The pack's block tag script makes both the station and the slab mineable with a pickaxe, and removes them from the axe-mineable tag. The vanilla crafting table gets the same change.[6]

How do you progress through Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

3 parts

There is no tier ladder to climb with this mod. In this pack it gives you two items: Crafting Station and its slab version, Crafting Station Slab.[3][4]

Where the quest book puts it

The quest "Crafting Stations" quest sits in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter. That is chapter 18 of 22 in the book, in the "Forgotten Knowledge" group, and the chapter has 24 quests. The quest asks you to get both the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab.[3]

The quest describes what the station does: it can pick up items stored in adjacent inventories and it holds items in its crafting grids. It works like the Tinker's Construct version, if you remember that one.[3]

Step 1: the Crafting Station

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

This is a shapeless crafting recipe that comes from the mod itself.

Step 2: the slab

Once you have a station, one craft gives you two slabs. The recipe is shapeless, so you just put the station in the crafting grid.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

One Crafting Station makes 2 Crafting Station Slabs.

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

2 parts

Crafting Station only shows up in one quest in the pack, so there's no long questline to follow here. It's "Crafting Stations" quest, and it sits in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips". That chapter is part of the "Forgotten Knowledge" group and is chapter 18 of 22 in the book. It holds 24 quests in total.[3]

What the quest asks for

The quest has two tasks: you need to have Crafting Station and Crafting Station Slab.[3]

The quest text explains what the station does. It can pick up items stored in adjacent inventories, and it also holds items in its crafting grids. The quest says it works like the Tinker's Construct version, if you remember that one.[3]

The rest of the chapter

This chapter is a collection of handy tools and quality-of-life items, so the Crafting Station quest sits alongside quests like "On A STICK!" quest, "Simple Magnets" quest and "Building Gadgets" quest. The sources don't say what has to be completed before or after the Crafting Stations quest, so I can't tell you its exact place in the order.[3]

Which Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Crafting Station has very few settings, and this pack sets both of the ones that matter to true. One lives in the client config and one in the server config.[8][9]

Display items in table

[[config:config/craftingstation-client.toml#general.display items in table]] is set to true in this pack. The mod page says the station keeps your items stored and displays them on top, and this option is the one that asks whether items are displayed in the table.[1][8]

Side inventories in the crafting grid

[[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] is also true in this pack. The config describes it as controlling whether side inventories are displayed in the crafting grid. The mod page says the station has access to neighbouring inventories.[1][9]

Tip: The side inventory option sits in the server config file, craftingstation-server.toml, while the table display option sits in craftingstation-client.toml. Check the right file when you go looking.[8][9]

What changed in Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated between versions?

1 part

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 ships Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated 2.1.1, so you already have every change listed below. The mod was first included in StoneBlock 4 1.1.1 or earlier. The list comes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

Mod changelog highlights

  • 2.1.1 (the version in this pack): added Functional Storage support, so items are now rendered on top of the station. It also fixed a dupe bug.[2][10]
  • 2.0.0: added Crafting Tweaks and Polymorph support.[11]
  • 1.6.6: drastically reduced network usage.[12]
  • 1.6.5: fixed Sophisticated Storage container names so a stray %s%s placeholder never shows for metal tiers. Side tabs also now display the exact pick-block icon (wood type, upgrades and so on) taken from each storage block.[13]
Tip: If you hit the dupe bug on an older install, the fix landed in 2.1.1, which is the version StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 already includes.[2][10]
