What is Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

1 part

The Crafting Station is a slight tweak on the normal crafting table. It keeps your items stored in its grid and displays them on top. It can also reach any neighbouring inventories, so you can craft from nearby chests without emptying them into your own inventory first.[1]

The idea originally comes from Tinkers Construct. This version is a fork of tfarecnim's Crafting Station, ported to 1.21 with a bit of code from the JEI Edition. Because of that, you get the "+" icon on the station to import a recipe, like on any other crafting bench. Polymorph is still supported too.[1]

Tip: The mod has an optional blacklist for neighbouring inventories, meant for modpack creators. This page doesn't confirm whether the pack uses it, so check the pack's config files if you want to know.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated version 2.1.1, and it has been included since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier.[2]

The quest book covers it in the quest "Crafting Stations" quest, in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips". That is chapter 2 of 31 in the book, and it holds 30 quests. The quest asks for the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab. Its text explains that a station opens a tab next to your crafting inventory, where you can pick up items stored in adjacent inventories, and that it holds items in its crafting grid.[3]

One quest in that chapter isn't included in the material I worked from. Open the quest book to read it.[3]

How do you get started with Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

3 parts

The Crafting Station is a small upgrade on the normal crafting table. It keeps your items stored in its grid and displays them on top, and it can reach neighbouring inventories, so you can craft straight from nearby storage.[1]

Step 1: Make the Crafting Station

This is the one to make first. The recipe is below, and it is the exact in-pack version.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

The pack's quest book covers it in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter, which is chapter 2 of 31. The quest "Crafting Stations" quest asks for both the station and its slab. It describes a tab that opens next to your crafting inventory, where you can pick up items stored in adjacent inventories. The station also holds items in its crafting grid.[3]

Step 2: Make the slab

Once you have a station, you can turn it into Crafting Station Slab. One craft gives you two slabs, and the slab is the second item that quest asks for.[3][4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

Good to know

  • In this pack, [[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] is set to true, so side inventories are displayed in the crafting grid.[5]
  • If you use JEI, the crafting station gets the "+" icon so you can import a recipe, like on any other crafting bench.[1]
  • Polymorph is still supported by this version of the mod.[1]

How does Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated work?

3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

The Crafting Station is a small tweak on the normal crafting table. It keeps your items stored in it and displays them on top. It's a simple block rather than a big machine, so there's no complicated setup to learn.[1]

Getting one

In this pack the station is a shapeless recipe built from a vanilla crafting table, so you can upgrade a table you already have.[6]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

There's also a Crafting Station Slab version, which is made from the station itself with another shapeless recipe.[6]

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

Stored items and neighbouring inventories

The station remembers the items you leave in it and shows them on top of the block. It can also reach any neighbouring inventories, so crafting can use items from chests placed next to it. Modpack creators can set an optional blacklist for those inventories.[1]

This pack has both of these behaviours switched on. Items are shown on the table because [[config:config/craftingstation-client.toml#general.display items in table]] is true. Side inventories appear in the crafting grid because [[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] is also true. The first is a client setting, so it only affects what you see. The second is a server setting.[7][8]

Tip: If the items on top of the station bother you, the client option for displaying items in the table is the one to change. It's a display setting, so it won't change what the station stores.[1][7]

Recipe importing and compatibility

If you use JEI, the station gets the "+" icon for importing a recipe, just like other crafting benches. The mod page also says Polymorph is still supported.[1]

Unverified The sources don't describe power, fluid handling, multiblock structures, automation with hoppers or pipes, or how the station's neighbour-inventory blacklist is set up in this pack, so none of those are covered here.

How do you progress through Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

2 parts

In this pack the mod comes down to two items, the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab, and a single quest covers both.[3][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The quest "Crafting Stations" quest is in the chapter "Useful Items & Tips", which is chapter 2 of 31 in the book. Its tasks are to have both the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab.[3]

The quest explains what the station is for: it opens a tab next to your crafting inventory. From that tab you can pick up items stored in adjacent inventories, and the station also holds items in its crafting grids.[3]

Crafting the two items

Both are shapeless crafting recipes, and the pack lists them as the mod's own recipes. The sources show no pack change to either of them.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

1 part

Crafting Station shows up in one quest, and it's in the "Useful Items & Tips" chapter. That's chapter 2 of 31 in the quest book, and it holds 30 quests about handy items and tips from many different mods.[3]

Crafting Stations quest

The quest "Crafting Stations" quest asks you to have two items: the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab.[3]

The quest text explains what they do. A Crafting Station opens a tab next to your crafting inventory. You can use that tab to pick up items stored in adjacent inventories, and the station also holds items in its crafting grids.[3]

Tip: The chapter's intro quest, "Tips & Tricks!" quest, describes the chapter as a collection of useful items and tips for your playthrough. Crafting Station is just one of many entries, and the sources don't say where the quest sits in the chapter's order.[3]

Which Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated config options matter?

2 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Crafting Station has very few settings, and this pack sets both of the ones that matter to true. One lives in the client config and one in the server config.[7][8]

Display items in table

[[config:config/craftingstation-client.toml#general.display items in table]] is set to true in this pack. The mod page says the station keeps your items stored and displays them on top, and this option is the one that asks whether items are displayed in the table.[1][7]

Side inventories in the crafting grid

[[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] is also true in this pack. The config describes it as controlling whether side inventories are displayed in the crafting grid. The mod page says the station has access to neighbouring inventories.[1][8]

Tip: The side inventory option sits in the server config file, craftingstation-server.toml, while the table display option sits in craftingstation-client.toml. Check the right file when you go looking.[7][8]
