Functional Storage is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 1.21.1-1.5.8. Functional Storage is an alternative take on the drawer storage solution, with an updated look and additional functionalities! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Functional Storage?

1 part

Functional Storage is a storage mod, and this pack ships version 1.21.1-1.5.8 of it. It gives you drawers and a set of tools and upgrades to organize and automate your items, which is handy once your StoneBlock base starts overflowing with materials.[1][2]

The pack's logistics storage chapter introduces the mod through eight quests. Each one unlocks after the same earlier quest, so you can tackle them in any order you like.[2]

What the quests cover

Unverified The sources don't say at which stage of the pack's progression you're expected to pick up Functional Storage, and the mod isn't on the ATM Star quest path.

How do you get started with Functional Storage?

5 parts

Functional Storage gives you drawers, which each hold lots of one item type, plus tools and upgrades to wire them together. In this pack, every quest in the logistics storage chapter unlocks from the same earlier quest. Nothing forces an order, but this is the order I would go in.[2]

Make a basic drawer

Start with a plain wooden drawer, for example the Acacia Drawer (1x1). The pack has changed the recipes for the wooden drawers, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. The same pattern shows up for the other wood types in the pack's recipe list, in 1x1, 1x2 and 2x2 sizes. Drawers matter early because many of the recipes for the items below take a drawer as an ingredient.[3]

Configuration Tool

Next, craft the Configuration Tool. It has its own quest, a quest in "Storage", and the pack changed its recipe.[2][3]

Storage Controller and Linking Tool

Once you have a few drawers, look at the controller setup. The pack adds its own recipe for the Storage Controller. The Controller Access Point (Controller Access Point) and the Linking Tool are the other parts of the quest "Storage Controllers" quest.[2][3]

The Linking Tool has two modes. One links a single drawer to a controller, and the other links multiple drawers between 2 points.[4]

Storage upgrades

The upgrade quest "Storage Upgrades" quest covers the Copper Upgrade, Gold Upgrade, Diamond Upgrade and Netherite Upgrade. They build on each other in the pack: the gold recipe needs a copper upgrade, the diamond recipe needs a gold upgrade, and the netherite one is a smithing recipe that uses a diamond upgrade. Start with copper.[2][3]

How does Functional Storage work?

4 parts

The sources for this mod are thin, so this section sticks to what the mod's own tooltips and the pack's recipe dump confirm. Capacities, controller range and upgrade values aren't shown in them, so they aren't covered here.[3][4]

Fluid drawers

The fluid drawers (Fluid Drawer (1x1), Fluid Drawer (1x2) and Fluid Drawer (2x2)) show hints in their GUI. One tells you how to empty a container into the drawer, and the other tells you how to fill a container from the drawer.[4]

The pack changed this recipe, and the 1x2 and 2x2 fluid drawers have their own pack-changed recipes too.

Linking drawers to a controller

The linking tool has a single mode and a multiple mode. Single mode links a drawer to a controller. Multiple mode links multiple drawers between 2 points.[4]

The Controller Access Point (Controller Access Point) has a recipe the pack changed. The sources here don't explain how it behaves, so this page doesn't either.[3]

Upgrades and their tooltips

The mod's storage upgrade tooltips describe changes to a base value: one kind increases it, one decreases it, and one sets it to a fixed value. A separate upgrade tooltip says it generates an amount of a fluid in mb. Utility items tell you to right click in a GUI to change their direction or their slot. The sources don't give the actual values or say which upgrade does which.[4]

The Collector Upgrade is one upgrade with a recipe in the dump, and the pack changed that recipe from the mod's default.[3]

Other pack-changed recipes

Every Functional Storage recipe the dump shows is marked as changed by the pack. That includes the Compacting Drawer and the Ender Drawer, so don't rely on recipes from the mod's default listings.[3]

How do you progress through Functional Storage?

5 parts

Functional Storage progression in this pack is driven by the logistics storage quest chapter. It has eight quests, and every one unlocks after the same earlier quest. Because they all share that prerequisite, you can pick the storage tools you want first and work through the rest as you go.[2]

Step 1: Basic and fluid drawers

The pack changed the wooden drawer recipes. Each wood-type drawer (1x1, 1x2 and 2x2) is built from a wooden chest plus planks of the matching wood. The Oak Drawer (1x1) only needs a wooden chest. Here is the 1x1 oak version as an example.[3]

Fluid drawers have their own quest, a quest in "Storage", which accepts any size of Fluid Drawer (1x1), Fluid Drawer (1x2) or Fluid Drawer (2x2). The pack changed their recipe too.[2][3]

Step 2: Framed and compacting drawers

Quest a quest in "Storage" accepts any framed block: framed drawers, framed fluid drawers, the framed compacting drawers, the framed controller or the framed access point. The pack's framed drawer recipes use a wooden chest and iron nuggets. You can also turn an existing drawer into its framed version with a mod-added copy recipe.[2][3]

For compacting storage, quest a quest in "Storage" takes either the Simple Compacting Drawer or the Compacting Drawer. Both recipes are changed by the pack and include a piston.[2][3]

Step 3: Storage upgrade tiers

Quest "Storage Upgrades" quest covers the capacity upgrade line: Copper Upgrade, Gold Upgrade, Diamond Upgrade and Netherite Upgrade. The pack changed all four recipes, shown below in tier order.[2][3]

Step 4: Controllers and tools

Quest "Storage Controllers" quest asks for a Storage Controller, a Controller Access Point and a Linking Tool. The first two tasks also accept their framed versions.[2]

The Storage Controller recipe is added by the pack itself, so it is not the mod's default.[3]

How does Functional Storage work with other mods?

1 part

The one link between Functional Storage and another mod that the pack's recipes and quests confirm is the recipe for the Framed Storage Controller. The pack adds it with a KubeJS shaped recipe, so it comes from the pack and not from the mod's defaults. The cross-mod part is the Facade item, which comes from a different mod.[3]

If you want the framed look for your controller, you need that facade item on hand, so it's worth sorting out before you build your storage room.[3]

In the quest book

In the Logistics storage quest chapter, the controller quest "Storage Controllers" quest accepts either the Storage Controller or the Framed Storage Controller. It also asks for a controller extension (plain or framed) and the Linking Tool.[2]

Quest a quest in "Storage" accepts any one of the framed items, including the Framed Storage Controller, the framed drawers and the Framed Controller Access Point. The quest tasks themselves only name Functional Storage items.[2]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Functional Storage?

1 part

All of the Functional Storage quests sit in a single chapter of the quest book, the logistics storage chapter. There are eight of them, and each one is an item task: you get the item and the quest checks off. Every one of them comes after "Functional Drawers" quest, the only prerequisite the quest data shows, so once that is done they all open up together and you can take them in any order.[2]

What each quest asks for

Where a task lists several items, any one of them counts. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so each one is described here by what it wants.[2]
