Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 2.2.0. Adds a crafting station with JEI support ! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

2 parts

The Crafting Station is a small tweak on the normal crafting table. Instead of clearing your ingredients when you close it, it keeps your items stored and shows them on top. It also has access to any neighbouring inventories, so you can craft straight from nearby storage.[1]

The idea comes from Tinkers Construct. This version is a fork of tfarecnim's Crafting Station, with some code from the JEI Edition ported to 1.21. If you use JEI, the crafting station shows the "+" icon so you can import a recipe like you would on any other crafting bench. Polymorph is still supported too.[1]

Who it is for

It suits anyone who crafts a lot and wants less shuffling of items. Because it pulls from neighbouring inventories, it works well next to your storage.[1]

Tip: The mod lets modpack creators set an optional blacklist for neighbouring inventories. I can't confirm from my sources whether this pack uses one, so if a nearby chest doesn't seem to be picked up, that might be why.[1]

In this pack

The pack includes version 2.1.1 of the mod. It also has a quest in the useful_items_tips chapter, "Crafting Stations" quest, with two tasks: the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab.[2][3]

Unverified The sources don't show whether the pack changes the crafting station's recipe or settings, so check the recipe in-game. This site does hold FTB Skies 2's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

2 parts

The first thing to make in this pack is the Crafting Station. It's a slight tweak on the regular crafting table: it keeps your items stored and displays them on top, and it can reach any neighbouring inventories.[1]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

This is the in-pack recipe, and it's shapeless.

The pack's quest book points you at it too. The quest "Crafting Stations" quest in the useful_items_tips chapter asks for the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab.[3]

Your first steps

  1. Craft the Crafting Station using the recipe above.[4]
  2. Craft the Crafting Station Slab too. It's the other item the quest asks for.[3][4]
  3. Place the station next to your storage, since it has access to neighbouring inventories.[1]
  4. Leave items on the station when you're done. It keeps them stored and displays them on top.[1]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station_slab

The slab recipe is shapeless too.

Importing recipes

The mod's project page says that players with JEI get a "+" icon on the crafting station. It imports a recipe, just like on other crafting benches. Polymorph is also supported.[1]

How does Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated work?

3 parts

The Crafting Station is a small tweak on the normal crafting table. It keeps your items stored in it and displays them on top. It's a simple block rather than a big machine, so there's no complicated setup to learn.[1]

Getting one

In this pack the station is a shapeless recipe built from a vanilla crafting table, so you can upgrade a table you already have.[4]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: craftingstation:crafting_station

There's also a Crafting Station Slab version, which is made from the station itself with another shapeless recipe.[4]

Stored items and neighbouring inventories

The station remembers the items you leave in it and shows them on top of the block. It can also reach any neighbouring inventories, so crafting can use items from chests placed next to it. Modpack creators can set an optional blacklist for those inventories.[1]

This pack has both of these behaviours switched on. Items are shown on the table because [[config:config/craftingstation-client.toml#general.display items in table]] is true. Side inventories appear in the crafting grid because [[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] is also true. The first is a client setting, so it only affects what you see. The second is a server setting.[5][6]

Tip: If the items on top of the station bother you, the client option for displaying items in the table is the one to change. It's a display setting, so it won't change what the station stores.[1][5]

Recipe importing and compatibility

If you use JEI, the station gets the "+" icon for importing a recipe, just like other crafting benches. The mod page also says Polymorph is still supported.[1]

Unverified The sources don't describe power, fluid handling, multiblock structures, automation with hoppers or pipes, or how the station's neighbour-inventory blacklist is set up in this pack, so none of those are covered here.

How do you progress through Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

3 parts

There is no tier ladder to climb here. The recipes in this pack cover the Crafting Station and its variant, the Crafting Station Slab, and each item has one recipe.[4]

First the Crafting Station

The Crafting Station is a shapeless recipe made from a vanilla crafting table, so you can get one early without any other progression.[4]

Then the slab variant

The Crafting Station Slab is also shapeless, and you make it from the Crafting Station itself.[4]

Where the quest book comes in

The pack's quest book places this mod in the "useful_items_tips" chapter, in the quest "Crafting Stations" quest. That quest has no title in the quest file, and its tasks are the Crafting Station and the Crafting Station Slab.[3]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated?

In this pack's quest book, Crafting Station appears in the "useful_items_tips" chapter. The sources show a single quest that involves the mod, so there is no questline to follow and no order to worry about.[3]

The quest file as shown here lists only those tasks. It gives no description or rewards for the quest.[3]

Which Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated config options matter?

2 parts

Crafting Station has very few settings, and this pack sets both of the ones that matter to true. One lives in the client config and one in the server config.[5][6]

Display items in table

[[config:config/craftingstation-client.toml#general.display items in table]] is set to true in this pack. The mod page says the station keeps your items stored and displays them on top, and this option is the one that asks whether items are displayed in the table.[1][5]

Side inventories in the crafting grid

[[config:config/craftingstation-server.toml#general.display side inventories in crafting grid]] is also true in this pack. The config describes it as controlling whether side inventories are displayed in the crafting grid. The mod page says the station has access to neighbouring inventories.[1][6]

Tip: The side inventory option sits in the server config file, craftingstation-server.toml, while the table display option sits in craftingstation-client.toml. Check the right file when you go looking.[5][6]

What changed in Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated between versions?

3 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Crafting Station: J/EMI Edition Updated at version 2.1.1. It was already in the pack by FTB Skies 2 1.10.1 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

2.1.1 (the version in this pack)

1.6.6

  • Network usage was drastically reduced.[8]

1.6.5

  • Fixed Sophisticated Storage container names, so the placeholder text %s%s no longer shows for metal tiers.[9]
  • Side tabs now show the exact pick-block icon (wood type, upgrades and so on) taken from each storage block.[9]

If you use Functional Storage in your base, the 2.1.1 update is the one you'll notice most, since your station now shows items on top.[2][7]
