Apothic-Spawners is a mod in FTB StoneBlock 4 1.23.0, where it is version 1.4.0. A mod about moving and modifying Mob Spawners (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Apothic-Spawners?

2 parts

Apothic Spawners is the Spawner Module of Apotheosis. It lets you pick up Mob Spawners and tune them with ordinary vanilla items, so you can build faster and more efficient spawners than the vanilla ones. This pack ships version 1.4.0.[1][2]

What it does

A spawner can be picked up with silk touch, and it has a set of stats that control how it behaves. Vanilla provides the basics, such as the minimum and maximum spawn delay, the spawn count, the max nearby entities, the required player range and the spawn range.[1]

Apotheosis adds more advanced stats on top. You can have mobs spawn with reduced initial health, ignore players, ignore spawn conditions or light, require a redstone signal, or have No AI. Mobs can also be silent, youthful, burning or echoing, where echoing means they drop an extra copy of their loot table.[1]

To change those stats you use a Spawner Modifier. Each one takes one or two items held in your hands, and you right-click the spawner to apply it. Every modifier has its own caps on the stats it changes, and some change more than one stat at once. Hover over a modified stat to see its description and that modifier's min or max value.[1]

The mod also adds the Capturing enchantment for swords. It gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg on death, and a spawn egg can be used to change which mob a spawner spawns.[1]

In the quest book

The pack's quest book covers it in the quest "Apotheosis Spawners" quest. That quest is in the chapter "Generating Resources", in the group "Forgotten Knowledge", which is chapter 13 of 22 in the book. Its tasks ask for Spawner Chain and Spawner.[3]

The quest tells you to break a spawner with a silk touch pickaxe to move it, and to use a mob egg to change what it spawns. Exploding a spawner drops Spawner Chains, which are used to craft upgrades, and the more advanced upgrades need a more advanced enchantment setup. For the exact items, it points you to the spawner recipes in JEI.[3]

The shown part of the chapter gives this quest no earlier quest that it follows. Around it you will find other mob farming quests: "Mob Mashing" quest, "Moving Mobs" quest, "Custom Spawners" quest and "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest. Part of the chapter is not shown to me, so check the book for the rest. Nothing in the quest sources puts this mod on the ATM Star path.[3]

How do you get started with Apothic-Spawners?

3 parts

Apothic Spawners is all about moving and modifying mob spawners so you can build your own mob farms. In this pack the quest book introduces it in "Apotheosis Spawners" quest, part of the Generating Resources chapter (Forgotten Knowledge group, chapter 13 of 22). It asks you for a Spawner and a Spawner Chain.[1][3]

Your first steps, in order

  1. Get a pickaxe with Silk Touch. That is how you pick a spawner up instead of destroying it. The pack requires Silk Touch level 1 for this, and each spawner you collect deals 100 durability damage to the tool.[3][4]
  2. Break a spawner and carry it home. In this pack spawners keep their mob when broken, because the empty-drop option is off.[4]
  3. Place it where you want your farm. To change what it spawns, use a Mob Egg of the monster you want on the spawner.[1][3]
  4. Need eggs? Enchant a sword with Capturing, which gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg. The pack sets the drop chance to 0.005 per level, where 1 means 100%.[1][4][5]
  5. Blow up a spawner to get Spawner Chains. The quest says these are what you craft the spawner upgrades from.[3]
  6. Apply upgrades by holding the modifier items in your hands and right-clicking the spawner. Hover over the stats afterwards to see what each one does and its limit.[1]
Tip: The quest says the more advanced spawner upgrades need a more advanced enchantment setup, so don't worry if some upgrades are out of reach early on. Check the recipes for a spawner in JEI to see which items to use.[3]

Unverified The exact recipes for the spawner modifiers and the Spawner Chain upgrades could not be confirmed from the available sources, so use JEI in your world. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

Goals to aim for

The mod has its own advancements that make a nice checklist. The first one is collecting a spawner with Silk Touch. Later ones ask you to push stats to specific values, such as lowering the minimum and maximum spawn delay to 20, raising the spawn count to 16 and the max nearby entities to 32, or raising the spawn range to 32 and the player activation range to 48.[5]

The final one is the ultimate spawner: minimal delays, redstone control, no AI, and ignoring both spawn conditions and players.[5]

Good to know

  • Everything above is set in the pack's config file. [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]] is the Silk Touch level needed. Set it to -1 to disable collecting, or 0 to make spawners always drop.[4]
  • [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Entity Despawn Delay]] is set to 600 ticks. That is how long mobs are prevented from despawning after they spawn.[4]
  • If you want a different route to custom spawners, "Custom Spawners" quest covers one using EnderIO, with a Soul Vial, Soul Binder and Broken Spawner.[3]

How does Apothic-Spawners work?

5 parts

Apothic Spawners is all about moving and modifying mob spawners. You pick a spawner up, then tune how it behaves with spawner modifiers. Done well, you end up with spawners that are faster and more efficient than the vanilla ones.[1]

Spawner stats

Every spawner has a set of stats that control how it behaves. The basic ones come from vanilla:[1]

  • Minimum and maximum spawn delay: the lower and upper bounds, in ticks, of the time between spawns.[1]
  • Spawn count: the upper bound on the number of entities spawned.[1]
  • Max nearby entities: how many entities of the spawning type can be nearby before spawning stops.[1][5]
  • Required player range: the radius in blocks a player must be within for the spawner to be active.[1]
  • Spawn range: the radius in blocks that the spawner will attempt to spawn entities in.[1]

The mod adds more advanced stats on top:[1]

  • Initial health: the amount of max health, in percentage, that mobs are spawned with.[1]
  • Ignore players: the spawner ignores the required player range and activates regardless.[1]
  • Ignore conditions: the spawner ignores all spawn rules for the spawned entity.[1]
  • Ignore light: the spawner will spawn the target entity regardless of light level.[1]
  • Redstone control: the spawner must be activated by a redstone signal.[1]
  • No AI: spawned mobs have the No AI flag, but gravity and outside forces still move them.[1]
  • Silent: spawned mobs have the Silent flag set, so they make no sound.[1]
  • Youthful: if possible, spawned mobs will be babies.[1]
  • Burning: mobs are spawned on fire.[1]
  • Echoing: spawned mobs drop an additional copy of their loot table on death.[1]
Tip: Hover over a modified stat in the spawner's tooltip to see a description of it, plus the min or max value of the modifier that changed it.[1]

Changing stats with modifiers

To change a spawner's stats you use a spawner modifier. Each modifier is a recipe that takes one or two input items. You hold them in your hands and right-click the spawner to apply the change. Modifiers have their own caps on the stats they touch, and one modifier can change several stats at once.[1]

Unverified Which items act as spawner modifiers in this pack, and the exact caps each one applies, could not be confirmed from the available sources.

Collecting spawners

You can pick a spawner up with Silk Touch. How strict that is depends on [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]], which is the level of Silk Touch needed to harvest a spawner. The pack uses 1. Setting it to -1 disables collecting, and 0 makes spawners always drop.[1][4]

Taking a spawner costs your tool durability. [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]] is the damage dealt to the item that silk touches a spawner, and the pack leaves it at 100.[4]

[[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] decides whether a broken spawner clears the entity it contains. It is false in the pack, so a collected spawner keeps its mob type.[4]

Mobs that come out of a spawner are protected from despawning for a while. [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Entity Despawn Delay]] sets that time in ticks, and the pack value is 600.[4]

Capturing and changing the mob type

The Capturing enchantment goes on swords and gives mobs a chance to drop their spawn egg on death. A spawn egg can then be used to change the type of mob a spawner spawns.[1][5]

The chance is set by [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]], a per-level chance where 1 means 100%. In the pack it is 0.005, and it can be set anywhere from 0.001 to 1.0. The enchantment's info text shows the drop rate per level.[4][5]

What the pack keeps out of spawners

The pack adds entities to the apothic_spawners:blacklisted_from_spawners tag, which is the mod's spawner blacklist. That includes the roost chickens, the fluid cow, the Mimic from Artifacts, and anything in the bosses tag. It also covers the Ender Dragon, the Warden, the Wither and every entity from the Cataclysm mod.[6]

If a mob you want to farm will not go into a spawner, this is the first place to look.[6]

How do you progress through Apothic-Spawners?

3 parts

Apothic Spawners has no tier ladder you climb through quests. The pack gives it a single quest, "Apotheosis Spawners" quest, in the Generating Resources chapter. That chapter is chapter 13 of 22 in the Forgotten Knowledge group, and it outlines most of the ways to automate resources. The quest asks you for Spawner and Spawner Chain.[3]

How the quest walks you through it

  1. Break a spawner with a pickaxe that has Silk Touch to move it.[3]
  2. Use a Mob Egg of the monster you want on a spawner to change it into a custom, non-vanilla spawner.[3]
  3. Explode a spawner to get Spawner Chains. These are used to craft the upgrades you apply to your spawners to improve their abilities.[3]
  4. For more advanced upgrades you need a more Advanced Enchantment Setup. The quest points you to the recipes for a spawner in JEI to see which items to use.[3]

Unverified The individual upgrade names, their tier order and what each one changes are not confirmed by the sources I have, so check the spawner recipes in JEI in your own world. This site does hold FTB StoneBlock 4's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

What the pack changes

The pack's own script adds entities to the apothic_spawners:blacklisted_from_spawners tag. That includes everything in the roost chicken tag and the Fluid Cow (moofluids:fluid_cow). If you want chickens, Roost Ultimate is the route the pack's quest book takes instead.[3][6]

The same script also feeds a shared farming blacklist into that tag. It covers every entity in the c:bosses tag, the Artifacts mimic, every entity from the Cataclysm mod, and a list of named entities such as the Ender Dragon, the Warden, the Wither and the Lich.[6]

Watch out: Don't plan a spawner farm around chickens, Fluid Cows, bosses or Cataclysm mobs. The pack puts all of them on the spawner blacklist tag.[6]

Other spawner and mob farm options in the same chapter

If you want mobs without moving vanilla spawners, the same chapter has "Custom Spawners" quest for EnderIO powered spawners and "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest for Hostile Neural Networks. For the killing side, see "Mob Crushing" quest, "Mob Mashing" quest and "Moving Mobs" quest.[3]

Which FTB StoneBlock 4 quests use Apothic-Spawners?

3 parts

Apothic Spawners has one quest in the pack, and it's "Apotheosis Spawners" quest. It sits in the "Generating Resources" chapter of the "Forgotten Knowledge" group, which is chapter 13 of 22 in the quest book and holds 49 quests.[3]

What the quest asks for

The quest has two item tasks: Spawner Chain and Spawner. It has no title-less side steps and no further tasks, so this one quest is the whole mod's questline.[3]

The quest text explains that Apothic Spawners lets you relocate and upgrade mob spawners to build your own mob farms. Here's how it breaks down:[3]

  • To move a spawner, break it with a pickaxe that has silk touch.[3]
  • To change what a spawner spawns, use a Mob Egg of the monster you want. That gives you custom, non-vanilla spawners.[3]
  • Exploding a spawner drops Spawner Chains. These are used to craft upgrades you can apply to your spawners.[3]
  • More advanced spawner upgrades need a more Advanced Enchantment Setup.[3]
Tip: The quest tells you to check the recipes for a spawner in JEI to see which items the upgrades use.[3]

Where it sits in the book

The chapter opens with a note that it outlines most of the different ways to automate generating resources (a quest in "Generating Resources"). The quest source lists no prerequisite for "Apotheosis Spawners" quest, so no other quest has to be finished before it. In the chapter's listing it comes right after the Roost Ultimate chicken starter quest ("Chickens!!" quest) and right before "Moving Mobs" quest.[3]

Other mob farming quests in the same chapter

If you're building a mob farm around your spawners, the same chapter also covers "Custom Spawners" quest with EnderIO, "Moving Mobs" quest for moving mobs around, "Mob Mashing" quest for automated killing, "Mob Crushing" quest for crushing mobs, and "Server Friendly Mob Farming" quest for Hostile Neural Networks.[3]

Which Apothic-Spawners config options matter?

2 parts

The settings for Apothic-Spawners covered here are in one file, and this pack's values all match the mod's listed defaults. The pack file marks only the capturing drop chance as changed, and even that shows the same number as the default. These are the options you are most likely to care about.[4]

Picking up spawners

Spawners can be picked up with silk touch, and these options control how that works.[1]

  • [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Level]] is 1 in this pack, the same as the mod default. That is the level of silk touch needed to harvest a spawner. Set it to -1 to disable harvesting, or 0 to always drop the spawner. The range is -1 to 127, and the enchantment module can increase the max level of silk touch.[4]
  • [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawner Silk Damage]] is 100 in this pack, the same as the mod default. This is the durability damage dealt to the item that silk touches a spawner. The range is 0 to 100,000.[4]
  • [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Spawners Drop Empty]] is false in this pack, the same as the mod default. When true, spawners clear their contained entity when broken.[4]

Capturing and despawning

  • [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Capturing Drop Chance]] is 0.005 in this pack. It is the per-level drop chance of Spawn Eggs when using Capturing, where 1 means 100%. The file marks this option as changed by the pack, but the value shown is the same as the listed mod default of 0.005. The range is 0.001 to 1.0.[4]
  • [[config:config/apothic_spawners.cfg#general.Entity Despawn Delay]] is 600 in this pack, the same as the mod default. It is the time, in ticks, that mobs are prevented from despawning after they have spawned. The range is 0 to 24,000.[4]
Tip: The file labels Spawner Silk Damage, Spawners Drop Empty and Entity Despawn Delay as server-authoritative. Capturing Drop Chance and Spawner Silk Level are labelled as synced.[4]

What changed in Apothic-Spawners between versions?

FTB StoneBlock 4 1.21.0 includes Apothic-Spawners 1.4.0, using the file ApothicSpawners-1.21.1-1.4.0.jar.[2]

The mod has been in the pack since FTB StoneBlock 4 1.0.0 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[2]

Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, and the details of what changed in the mod's own 1.4.0 release could not be confirmed from the sources available, so no specific changes are listed here.
