What is RFTools Storage?
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
RFTools Storage is an addon for RFTools Base. It adds the storage system and everything related to it, and it is meant to be used together with the other RFTools addons.[1]
The mod depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, so you need both of them installed alongside it.[1]
The project page says remote storage and the storage scanner are planned for the future, with the aim of growing the mod into a fully featured storage system mod. Those are plans, so don't count on them being in the pack.[1]
This pack ships RFTools Storage 1.21-6.0.5, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[2]
How do you get started with RFTools Storage?
5 parts
This mod is all about storing lots of items in one place and finding them again quickly. Here is the order I would make things in, and why.[3]
First, the Modular Storage
Start with the Modular Storage. It can store a lot of items and lets you search and filter them easily. The catch is that you must insert a storage module item before you can use it, so don't stop at the block.[3]

Next, your first storage module
Now make the Tier 1 Storage Module, the module that goes into the Modular Storage block. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Use the recipe below.[3][4]

Then, upgrading the module
When you run out of room, move up the tiers. Each upgrade is crafted from the module one tier below it, so you keep what you built. Tier 2 Storage Module comes from the Tier 1 module, Tier 3 Storage Module from Tier 2, and Tier 4 Storage Module from Tier 3. The Tier 3 and Tier 4 upgrades use block-sized materials, so save them for when you need them.[4]
The Tier 3 and Tier 4 upgrades follow the same pattern of building on the previous tier's module.
After that, the Storage Scanner
Once the basic storage works, the Storage Scanner is the next big step. It scans all nearby inventories and shows them in one list, and you can then search and take items from those inventories.[3]

The scanner runs on RF. In this pack it holds up to 50,000 RF, uses 100 RF to request an item and 20 RF to insert one. These match the mod's defaults. Requested items go straight into your inventory instead of an output slot.[5]
Finally, screen modules for the scanner
Two optional screen modules work with the scanner. Both are linked the same way: sneak right-click on a storage scanner to set the target. The pack changed both of their recipes.[3][4]
- Storage Control Screen Module lets you monitor 9 different items through a storage scanner. You can also combine it with a tablet for remote access to a scanner-controlled system.[3]
- Dump Screen Module lets you dump a lot of items into a linked storage scanner.[3]

How does RFTools Storage work?
5 parts
RFTools Storage is built around two machines: the Modular Storage and the Storage Scanner. The Modular Storage holds a lot of items and gives you easy searching and filtering, but it does nothing until you put a storage module inside it. The Storage Scanner works differently: it scans nearby inventories and shows them in one list, so you can search and pull items out of them.[3]
Modular Storage and its modules
Storage modules come in four tiers: Tier 1 Storage Module, Tier 2 Storage Module, Tier 3 Storage Module and Tier 4 Storage Module. A module's tooltip shows its supported stacks, contents, UUID and version. The mod also has a remote inventory feature: some modules can link to another storage module in the Remote Storage block.[3]
The Modular Storage GUI comes in three styles, and the pack keeps the mod's default height for each: storage.modularStorageGuiHeight1 is 236 for the smallest, storage.modularStorageGuiHeight2 is 320 for the middle one and storage.modularStorageGuiHeight3 is 490 for the tallest.[5]

Remote Storage power
The Remote Storage block runs on RF. In this pack it holds up to 100,000 RF (storage.remoteStorageMaxRF) and can receive 300 RF per tick (storage.remoteStorageRFPerTick). Sharing an inventory costs 10 RF per tick within the same dimension (storage.remoteShareLocal) and 50 RF per tick to share it with all dimensions (storage.remoteShareGlobal). All of these match the mod defaults.[5]
Storage Scanner
The scanner is powered by RF. In this pack it holds up to 50,000 RF (storagescanner.scannerMaxRF) and accepts 500 RF per tick (storagescanner.scannerRFPerTick). Inserting an item costs 20 RF (storagescanner.rfPerInsert) and requesting one costs 100 RF (storagescanner.rfPerRequest). The tooltip also mentions an infusing bonus that reduces its power consumption.[3][5]
A few scanner settings are worth knowing. storagescanner.requestStraightToInventory is true here, so requested items go straight into your inventory instead of an output slot. storagescanner.scannerNoRestrictions is false, so the scanner respects claimed players and uses a fake player to access inventories. That should stop it scanning other players' properly claimed inventories. storagescanner.xnetRequired is false, so XNet is not required to connect storages to the scanner.[5]

Screen modules
The Storage Control Screen Module is a screen module that monitors 9 different items through a storage scanner. You can also combine it with a tablet for remote access to a scanner-controlled system. To link it, sneak right-click a storage scanner.[3]
The Dump Screen Module is another screen module. It lets you dump a lot of items into a linked storage scanner, and you link it the same way, by sneak right-clicking the scanner. In this pack, both modules' per-tick, per-block power costs (storagescanner.dumpRFPerTick and storagescanner.storageControlRFPerTick) are set to 0.[3][5]

Tablets
The Storage Tablet holds up to 20,000 RF (storage.tabletMaxRF) and accepts 500 RF per tick (storage.tabletRFPerTick). Each use costs 100 RF (storage.tabletRFUsage), and 100 RF when used with the scanner module (storage.tabletRFUsageScanner). On top of that, storage.tabletExtraRFUsage adds 100 extra RF per use for each storage tier. These values are the same as the mod defaults.[5]
The Tablet (scanner) holds a link to a storage scanner. Right-click it for the scanner GUI, or sneak right-click for the tablet GUI.[3]
How do you progress through RFTools Storage?
3 parts
Progression for this mod is a crafting chain. You start with the Modular Storage, then fill it with storage modules from Tier 1 up to Tier 4. Each recipe below is the one used in this pack.[4]
Step 1: the Modular Storage
The Modular Storage is the block the modules go into. Its recipe is the mod's own, not changed by the pack.[4]

Step 2: the four storage module tiers
The Tier 1 Storage Module is where the chain starts, and the pack has changed its recipe from the mod's version. Use the recipe below, not what you remember from other modpacks.[4]

From here on, every upgrade takes the previous tier's module as one of its ingredients, so you can't skip a tier. The Tier 2 Storage Module builds on the Tier 1 module and uses the mod's own recipe.[4]
Mod recipe, upgrades the Tier 1 module.
The Tier 3 Storage Module builds on the Tier 2 module, and its recipe is also unchanged from the mod's.[4]
Mod recipe, upgrades the Tier 2 module.
The Tier 4 Storage Module is the top tier. It builds on the Tier 3 module and also asks for an extra item from RFTools Base, so check the recipe and prepare ahead of time. Its recipe is the mod's own.[4]

How does RFTools Storage work with other mods?
2 parts
RFTools Storage is an addon for RFTools Base, and it depends on both RFTools Base and McJtyLib. The pack's recipes are where that link shows up in practice.[1]
RFTools Base parts
RFTools Base supplies the Machine Frame that sits at the heart of both the Modular Storage and the Storage Scanner. The exact recipes are shown below.[4]

Recipe id: rftoolsstorage:modular_storage
The Modular Storage takes any chest from the c:chests tag.
Crafting Shaped
| any ender pearl | ||

The Storage Scanner takes any ender pearl from the c:ender_pearls tag.
The Tier 4 upgrade, the Tier 4 Storage Module, reaches into RFTools Base too, through the Infused Diamond. It is an upgrade of the Tier 3 Storage Module, and the recipe is shown here.[4]
This recipe uses the McJtyLib recipe type mcjtylib:copy_components, and it also takes any chest from the c:chests tag.
Tags and vanilla items
Two shared tags show up in these recipes instead of one fixed item. The Modular Storage and the Tier 4 Storage Module take any item in the c:chests tag, and the Storage Scanner takes any item in the c:ender_pearls tag.[4]
The rest of the materials in these recipes are plain vanilla items, such as Quartz, Redstone, Gold Ingot, Redstone Torch, Diamond Block, Quartz Block and Redstone Block. The recipe blocks above show exactly how they are used.[4]
Which RFTools Storage config options matter?
6 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
RFTools Storage has a client config and a server config. In this pack, the only values flagged as changed from the mod default are two colors in the client file. Every numeric value in the server file matches the mod default, so the energy costs and capacities below are the mod's own numbers.[6][7]
Client options (changed by the pack)
- storage.groupBackground is set to 0 in this pack. The mod default is -1123021. It controls the background color for group lines in the modular storage GUI.[6]
- storage.groupForeground is set to 0 in this pack. The mod default is -16777216. It controls the foreground color for group lines.[6]
Client options (search and highlighting)
- storage.autofocusSearch is false, so the search field is not focused automatically when you open the modular storage GUI.[6]
- storage.clearSearchOnOpen is true, so the search field is cleared each time you open the modular storage GUI.[6]
- storagescanner.hilightStarredOnGuiOpen is true, so opening the storage scanner GUI selects the starred inventory view.[6]
- storagescanner.hilightTime is 5 seconds, the mod default. This is how long a block is highlighted in the world.[6]
Storage tablet energy
- storage.tabletMaxRF is 20,000 RF and storage.tabletRFPerTick is 500 RF per tick. Both are mod defaults.[7]
- storage.tabletRFUsage is 100 RF per use. storage.tabletExtraRFUsage adds another 100 RF per use for each storage tier. Both are mod defaults.[7]
- storage.tabletRFUsageScanner is 100 RF per use when the tablet is combined with the scanner module, also the mod default.[7]
Storage scanner
- storagescanner.scannerMaxRF is 50,000 RF and storagescanner.scannerRFPerTick is 500 RF per tick, both mod defaults.[7]
- storagescanner.rfPerInsert is 20 RF per item inserted and storagescanner.rfPerRequest is 100 RF per item requested, both mod defaults.[7]
- storagescanner.dumpRFPerTick and storagescanner.storageControlRFPerTick are both 0, so the dump and storage control modules have no per-tick RF cost. Both are mod defaults.[7]
- storagescanner.requestStraightToInventory is true, so requested items go straight into your inventory instead of the output slot.[7]
- storagescanner.scannerNoRestrictions is false, so the scanner respects claimed players and uses a fake player to access inventories. That should stop it scanning other players' properly claimed inventories.[7]
- storagescanner.xnetRequired is false, so XNet is not required to connect storages to a scanner.[7]
Remote storage
- storage.remoteStorageMaxRF is 100,000 RF and storage.remoteStorageRFPerTick is 300 RF per tick, both mod defaults.[7]
- storage.remoteShareLocal is 10 RF per tick to share an inventory within the same dimension. storage.remoteShareGlobal is 50 RF per tick to share it across all dimensions. Both are mod defaults.[7]
GUI heights
The three modular storage GUI styles use heights of 236 (storage.modularStorageGuiHeight1), 320 (storage.modularStorageGuiHeight2) and 490 (storage.modularStorageGuiHeight3), from smallest to tallest. All three are mod defaults.[7]
Unverified The server file also has a long storage.categories list that maps item classes to sorting categories. The sources don't say whether the pack changed it or how it behaves in this version, so leave it alone unless you know what you're doing.
What changed in RFTools Storage between versions?
There isn't much version history to tell for RFTools Storage in this pack. FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships RFTools Storage 1.21-6.0.5, and the mod was already in the pack by 1.0.3 or earlier.[8]
The one change the mod's own changelog lists for 1.21-6.0.5 is that the Patchouli manual documentation was updated and expanded.[9]
Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for this mod, so any changes the Aero releases made to RFTools Storage are not shown.
