What is RFTools Storage?
Same as in the All the Mons 1.3.0 guide
RFTools Storage is an addon for RFTools Base. It adds the storage system and everything related to it, and it is meant to be used together with the other RFTools addons.[1]
The mod depends on RFTools Base and McJtyLib, so you need both of them installed alongside it.[1]
The project page says remote storage and the storage scanner are planned for the future, with the aim of growing the mod into a fully featured storage system mod. Those are plans, so don't count on them being in the pack.[1]
This pack ships RFTools Storage 1.21-6.0.5, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier.[2]
How do you get started with RFTools Storage?
5 parts
RFTools Storage is an addon for RFTools Base, so it builds on the same family of mods. The plan here is simple: make the storage block, give it a module, then add a scanner and screens once you have a lot of stuff to keep track of.[1][3]
First, the Modular Storage
Start with Modular Storage. It stores a lot of items and lets you search and filter them easily. It does nothing on its own, though: you have to put a storage module inside before you can use it.[3]

Next, your first storage module
Next, craft the Tier 1 Storage Module. This is the module that goes into the Modular Storage block. The pack has changed this recipe from the mod's default, so go by the recipe below and not by what you remember from other packs.[3][4]

Then, upgrading the module
When the first module fills up, you move up the tiers. Each higher tier is crafted from the module of the tier below it, and the pack has changed all three upgrade recipes. Tier 2 Storage Module comes first, then Tier 3 Storage Module, then Tier 4 Storage Module.[4]

After that, the Storage Scanner
Once your items are spread over several chests and blocks, make a Storage Scanner. It scans all nearby inventories and shows them in one list, so you can search for items and access them from there. The pack has changed this recipe too. Infusing the scanner gives a bonus of reduced power consumption.[3][4]

Finally, screen modules for the scanner
Two screen modules work with the scanner. The Storage Control Screen Module lets you monitor 9 different items through a storage scanner, and it can be combined with a tablet for remote access to a scanner-controlled system.[3]

How does RFTools Storage work?
4 parts
RFTools Storage has two systems you will actually use. The first is the Modular Storage, which holds items in storage modules. The second is the Storage Scanner, which looks through nearby inventories and lets you reach into them. Screen modules and a tablet extend the scanner. The mod is an addon for RFTools Base and also depends on McJtyLib.[1][3]
Modular Storage
The Modular Storage block stores a lot of items and gives you easy searching and filtering. It does nothing on its own: you have to insert a storage module item before you can use it.[3]

The block is built around a Machine Frame from RFTools Base.
Storage modules
The modules come in four tiers: Tier 1 Storage Module, Tier 2 Storage Module, Tier 3 Storage Module and Tier 4 Storage Module. In this pack all four recipes were changed from the mod's own. The upgrade recipes take the previous tier's module as one of their ingredients, so you build up from Tier 1 rather than crafting a high tier from scratch.[3][4]

A module's tooltip has lines for the supported stacks, its contents, a UUID, a version and a Remote ID. A tooltip line also says a module can support a remote inventory by linking to another storage module in the remote storage block.[3]
Storage Scanner
The Storage Scanner scans all nearby inventories and shows them in one list. From that list you can search for items and access them. Its tooltip also mentions an infusing bonus that reduces its power consumption. The pack changed this recipe too.[3][4]

Screen modules and the tablet
Two screen modules work through a scanner. Both show a power usage line in their tooltip.[3]
- Storage Control Screen Module lets you monitor 9 different items through a storage scanner. You can combine it with a tablet for remote access to a system controlled by a scanner.[3]
- Dump Screen Module lets you dump a lot of items into a linked storage scanner.[3]

Both modules need a target before they do anything. To set it, sneak right-click on the storage scanner with the module.[3]
The scanner tablet holds a link to a storage scanner. Right-click it to open the scanner GUI, or sneak right-click to open the tablet GUI.[3]
How do you progress through RFTools Storage?
4 parts
Storage in this pack is a ladder of modules. You start with the Modular Storage block, slot in a Tier 1 Storage Module, and then upgrade that module through four tiers. Every step has its own recipe in the pack, so here is the path in order.[4]
Step 1: the Modular Storage block
The Modular Storage is the block the modules go into. Its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack.[4]

Step 2: Tier 1
The Tier 1 Storage Module is where the module line starts. The pack changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[4]

Step 3: upgrading through Tiers 2 to 4
Each higher tier is crafted from the module one tier below it, so you upgrade the same module rather than starting over. All three upgrade recipes were changed by the pack.[4]
- Tier 2 Storage Module is made from a Tier 1 Storage Module.[4]
- Tier 3 Storage Module is made from a Tier 2 Storage Module.[4]
- Tier 4 Storage Module is made from a Tier 3 Storage Module.[4]

Extras: scanner and screen modules
The Storage Scanner sits outside the module ladder. The pack changed its recipe too.[4]

How does RFTools Storage work with other mods?
3 parts
RFTools Storage is an addon for RFTools Base and also depends on McJtyLib, so the strongest link in this pack is with the rest of the RFTools family. The recipes below show how it ties into RFTools Base and into vanilla Minecraft and Forge tag items.[1]
Modular Storage
The Modular Storage is the core block of the storage system. Its crafting needs the Machine Frame from RFTools Base, plus vanilla Quartz and Redstone. It also accepts any chest from the Forge chests tag, so chests from other mods can work here too. This recipe is the mod's own, not changed by the pack.[4]

Storage Scanner
The pack changes the Storage Scanner recipe. It uses the Machine Frame again, along with an Redstone Torch. Any ender pearl from the Forge ender pearls tag and any gold ingot from the Forge gold ingots tag also work, so those can come from other mods.[4]

Tier 4 Storage Module
The Tier 4 Storage Module recipe is also changed by the pack. It is an upgrade of the Tier 3 Storage Module and uses the Infused Diamond from RFTools Base. It also needs vanilla Quartz Block and Redstone Block, a chest from the Forge chests tag, and a diamond block from the Forge diamond storage blocks tag. The recipe type is mcjtylib:copy_nbt, which comes from McJtyLib.[4]

Which RFTools Storage config options matter?
2 parts
RFTools Storage only has a client config file in this pack, config/rftoolsstorage-client.toml. These options change how the interface behaves for you, not how the storage works. The sources don't show whether the pack changed any of them from the mod's defaults, so what follows is simply how the pack sets them.[5]
Modular storage GUI
- storage.autofocusSearch is false in this pack. Opening the modular storage GUI does not automatically put focus on the search field. If you want to start typing right away, set it to true.[5]
- storage.clearSearchOnOpen is true. The search field is cleared each time you open the modular storage GUI. Set it to false if you want your last search to stay.[5]
- storage.groupBackground and storage.groupForeground are both set to 0 in this pack. They control the background and foreground colors of the group lines.[5]
Storage scanner
- storagescanner.hilightStarredOnGuiOpen is true. Opening the storage scanner GUI automatically selects the starred inventory view.[5]
- storagescanner.hilightTime is 5. That is how many seconds a block is highlighted in the world.[5]
What changed in RFTools Storage between versions?
1 part
There isn't much version history to tell for this mod in the pack. Project Infinity 0.1 0.0.51.4-hotfix-2 ships RFTools Storage 1.20-5.0.4, and the mod was already in the pack by version 0.0.45.4 or earlier.[6]
RFTools Storage 1.20-5.0.4
The mod's own changelog for this version lists one change: various Patchouli documentation updates and fixes. If you read the in-game guide for RFTools Storage, that is the part this release touched.[7]
Unverified The pack changelogs have no entries for this mod, so the sources here do not show any pack-specific changes to RFTools Storage across Project Infinity releases.
