Cable Tiers is a mod in FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.13.0, where it is version 1.21.1-0.6.14. Adds better Exporter, Importer, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Autocrafter, Interface, Requester from Refined Storage and RSRequestify (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Cable Tiers?

2 parts

Cable Tiers adds upgraded versions of several Refined Storage network parts: the Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Autocrafter, Interface and Requester (the Requester also comes from RSRequestify). This pack includes version 1.21.1-0.6.14 of the mod. If you've outgrown the basic cables, these are the faster, roomier replacements.[1][2]

The three tiers

The mod's project page lists these upgrades over the base part. I found nothing showing the pack changes them, but the quest book says to check an item's tooltip for exact speeds.[1][3]

  • Elite: 9 more filter slots and 2x faster.[1]
  • Ultra: 27 more filter slots, 5x faster, with a stack upgrade integrated.[1]
  • Mega: 45 more filter slots, 6.5x faster, with a stack upgrade integrated.[1]

The project page also lists three special features: tag filtering, side-specific inputs for autocrafting, and an import mode for Autocrafters.[1]

Where the quest book puts it

The pack's quest book covers Cable Tiers in the General Storage chapter. That is chapter 7 of 31 in the book, in the group Resources & Logistics, and it holds 146 quests. The chapter opens by saying it covers most of the basic ways to store your items. Most of its quests are not shown here, so check the quest book itself for the rest.[3]

The Disk Interface quest says the Cable Tiers versions raise the transfer speed and add filter slots.[3]

How do you get started with Cable Tiers?

3 parts

Cable Tiers doesn't add a new storage system. It adds stronger versions of Refined Storage devices: the Importer, Exporter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Autocrafter and Interface. So your first job is getting Refined Storage 2 running, then upgrading the devices you use most.[1]

Your first steps, in order

  1. Get the basic network going first. In the quest book, "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest comes after "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest. It says you need Sky Steel Ingots before you can craft your first Machine Core, so sort out your Sky Stone supply before you think about tiers.[3]
  2. Set up the normal Refined Storage device you want to upgrade. The quest book has Cable Tiers notes in the General Storage chapter (group Resources & Logistics): "Constructor" quest comes after the Cables quest, and "Disk Interface" quest comes after the Disk Drive quest.[3]
  3. Craft the Elite version of that device. Elite is the first tier. Start with the Elite Disk Interface or the Elite Exporter, whichever your setup needs first.[1][4]
  4. Only then move up the tiers. The order is Elite, then Ultra, then Mega, and each step has its own recipe, like the Ultra Exporter and Mega Exporter. The other device types follow the same chain.[1][4]

The Elite Disk Interface, the first Cable Tiers step for storage disks.

Ultra is the next step up from Elite.

What this pack changes

The pack changed the Disk Interface speeds in tieredDiskInterface.eliteSpeed, tieredDiskInterface.ultraSpeed, tieredDiskInterface.megaSpeed and tieredDiskInterface.creativeSpeed. They are set to 2, 5, 8 and 100, where the mod default for each is 0. The speed settings for the other device types match the mod defaults in this pack.[5]

The pack's config also sets a Stack Upgrade as integrated in the Ultra and Mega versions of the Constructor, Disk Interface, Exporter and Importer, and not in the Elite ones.[5]

Tip: Don't guess exact speeds and filter slot counts. Hover over a device and read its tooltip: the quest book itself says to check the item's tooltip for exact speeds.[3]

Creative tier and dyeing

The pack adds its own recipes for the Creative Constructor, Destructor, Exporter, Importer and Disk Interface. Each one needs Creative Ascension plus a regular Refined Storage device, so treat them as a late goal rather than a first step.[4]

Creative ConstructorAdded by the pack

Shapeless (kubejs)

Recipe id: ftb:creative_constructor

One of the pack's Creative recipes. The other Creative devices follow the same pattern.

Once you have a few tiers in your network, you can also recolour them. There are dye recipes, such as a light blue Ultra Disk Interface, and black variants like the Black Elite Exporter, which help you tell tiers apart at a glance.[4]

How does Cable Tiers work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Cable Tiers doesn't add a whole new system. It adds better versions of the Refined Storage Exporter, Importer, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Manipulator (called Disk Interface in the mod), Autocrafter and Interface, plus the Requester from RSRequestify. If you already know how those parts work in Refined Storage, you know the basics here. The tiers make them faster and roomier.[1]

What each tier gives you

These are the upgrade tiers above the normal part, as the mod page lists them.[1]

  • Elite: 9 more filter slots and 2x faster.[1]
  • Ultra: 27 more filter slots, 5x faster, and a Stack Upgrade integrated.[1]
  • Mega: 45 more filter slots, 6.5x faster, and a Stack Upgrade integrated.[1]

There is also a Creative tier for each part type, and each one has its own speed setting. The Creative Autocrafter, for example, has a configurable speed.[6]

Reading the tooltips

The tooltips show you what a tier changes. Cable parts list how much faster they are than a normal one and their total filter slots, and they note when a Stack Upgrade is integrated. Autocrafters list their speed boost and their total input slots. Disk Interfaces list only their total filter slots.[6]

Interfaces work a little differently. Their tooltip gives a transfer quota multiplier and a total number of input/output slots, not a speed multiplier.[6]

Speed, energy and integrated Stack Upgrades

The mod has a configuration section for each part type: Autocrafters, Constructors, Destructors, Disk Interfaces, Exporters, Importers and Interfaces. For each tier you can set the speed and the energy usage. Interfaces use a transfer quota multiplier in place of speed.[6]

Constructors, Disk Interfaces, Exporters and Importers also have a per-tier toggle for whether the Stack Upgrade is integrated. The mod page says Ultra and Mega come with it built in, so check the tooltip on your own Elite part to see whether it carries the integrated Stack Upgrade line.[1][6]

Unverified The energy usage per tier, the Interface transfer quota multipliers, and whether this pack changes any of the tier values above are set in the mod's config. The sources here do not include that config, so they do not show these numbers.

Special features

The mod page highlights these extras: tag filtering, side-specific inputs for autocrafting, and an import mode for Autocrafters.[1]

For side-specific inputs, the pattern grid has an option that lets you change the side from which resources are inserted in autocrafting. The resource slots there hold the resources that will be inserted into the target inventory.[6]

Colored variants

Autocrafters, Constructors, Destructors, Disk Interfaces, Exporters and Importers come in dyed variants, including the Creative tier. For example, Black Elite Importer and Black Creative Autocrafter are black versions, and blue versions such as Blue Elite Constructor exist too. Coloring is a shapeless crafting recipe that takes a dye plus a part of the matching tier and type. Here is the black Elite Importer as an example.[7]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any elite importer
  • any black dye

Recipe id: cabletiers:coloring/black_elite_importer

Other colors and part types follow the same dye plus matching tier pattern in the recipe list.

How do you progress through Cable Tiers?

3 parts

Cable Tiers gives you upgraded versions of Refined Storage 2 network devices, so you start with the normal Refined Storage part and climb through four tiers: Elite, Ultra, Mega and Creative. The pack's quest book says each Cable Tiers upgrade works faster than the one before it and has more filter slots. It points you to the item's tooltip for the exact speeds, so I won't guess numbers here.[3][4]

Where it sits in the quest book

The Cable Tiers items turn up in the "General Storage" chapter (group "Resources & Logistics", chapter 7 of 31), inside the Refined Storage 2 branch. That branch starts at "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest. "Constructor" quest, "Destructor" quest and "System Input & Output" quest all come after "Cables" quest. "Disk Interface" quest comes after "Disk Drive" quest. The Constructor and Disk Interface quests are the ones whose text mentions Cable Tiers, and the Disk Interface quest accepts the Elite, Ultra, Mega or Creative disk interface. 46 quests in this chapter aren't covered here, so check the quest book for anything else it says about these items.[3]

The tier path

  1. Elite: you craft this from the matching Refined Storage device, for example Elite Disk Interface, Elite Constructor or Elite Interface.[4]
  2. Ultra: you upgrade the Elite version into the Ultra one, for example Ultra Disk Interface.[4]
  3. Mega: you upgrade the Ultra version into the Mega one, for example Mega Disk Interface.[4]
  4. Creative: the pack adds its own recipes for this tier, and they start from the matching Refined Storage device rather than from Mega.[4]

The Elite, Ultra and Mega recipes follow the same pattern for the Autocrafter, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Exporter, Importer and Interface. Here is the Disk Interface line, step by step.[4]

Creative tier

The pack adds Creative recipes for the Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Exporter and Importer. They use a Creative Ascension and are not part of the Elite, Ultra, Mega chain.[4]

Creative Disk InterfaceAdded by the pack

Tip: You can also dye tiered devices. There are 384 shapeless recipes of this kind, each turning a dye and a tiered device into a coloured version, such as the light blue Elite Disk Interface.[4]

  • any elite disk interface
  • any light blue dye

How does Cable Tiers work with other mods?

3 parts

Cable Tiers is built on top of Refined Storage. It adds faster, bigger versions of Refined Storage parts, so almost every connection to another mod runs through Refined Storage items.[1][4]

Elite and Ultra upgrades

The Elite and Ultra versions of the Exporter, Importer, Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Interface and Autocrafter all have in-pack crafting recipes that use Refined Storage items. The Elite step starts from the matching Refined Storage part, and the Ultra step builds on the Elite one. Here is the Exporter line as an example, and the other parts follow the same pattern.[4]

Elite ExporterMod recipe

Crafting Shaped

Crafting Shaped
Iron BlockExporterIron Block
ExporterAdvanced ProcessorExporter
Iron BlockExporterIron Block

Recipe id: cabletiers:elite_exporter

The same pattern applies to Elite Autocrafter, Elite Interface and their Ultra versions such as Ultra Autocrafter and Ultra Interface.[4]

The mod's project page lists what each tier gives you. Elite gives 9 more filter slots and works 2x faster. Ultra gives 27 more filter slots, works 5x faster and has the stack upgrade built in. Mega gives 45 more filter slots, works 6.5x faster and also has the stack upgrade built in. The pack's quest book tells you to check each item's tooltip for the exact speeds.[1][3]

Creative versions

The pack adds its own recipes for the Creative tier. They are shapeless and use Creative Ascension together with any item from the matching Refined Storage tag, so any variant of that part works. They exist for the Constructor, Destructor, Disk Interface, Exporter and Importer: Creative Constructor, Creative Destructor, Creative Disk Interface, Creative Exporter and Creative Importer.[4]

In the quest book

Cable Tiers shows up in the "General Storage" chapter, which sits in the "Resources & Logistics" group as chapter 7 of 31. The "Disk Interface" quest quest comes after Disk Drive. It asks for the Refined Storage Disk Interface and for one of the Elite, Ultra, Mega or Creative Cable Tiers Disk Interfaces. Its text says these upgrades transfer items faster and have more filter slots.[3]

The "Constructor" quest quest comes after Cables. It says each Cable Tiers upgrade of the Constructor works faster than the previous tier and has more filter slots.[3]

Unverified The "General Storage" chapter has 146 quests, and the text of most of them is not shown in the sources here. Check the quest book itself to see whether other quests in that chapter mention Cable Tiers.

Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use Cable Tiers?

3 parts

Cable Tiers shows up in one chapter of the pack's quest book: General Storage. It's chapter 7 of 31, in the group "Resources & Logistics". The chapter has 146 quests and mostly teaches storage mods like Sophisticated Storage, Functional Storage, Applied Energistics and Refined Storage 2. The Cable Tiers parts sit in the Refined Storage 2 branch.[3]

The Disk Interface quest

The main one is "Disk Interface" quest. It has two tasks. First you hand in the regular Disk Interface. Then you hand in one of the Cable Tiers versions, and any one of these counts: Elite Disk Interface, Ultra Disk Interface, Mega Disk Interface or Creative Disk Interface.[3]

The quest text says the Cable Tiers Disk Interfaces upgrade the speed at which items are transferred and have more filter slots. For the exact speeds, it tells you to check the item's tooltip.[3]

The Constructor quest

"Constructor" quest also mentions the mod. Its text says each Cable Tiers upgrade works faster than its previous tier and has more filter slots, and again points you to the item's tooltip for exact speeds.[3]

What order to do them in

Both quests sit deep in the Refined Storage 2 line, so you work towards them step by step. The Disk Interface path looks like this:[3]

  1. "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest comes first, since the next quest sends you back to it for Sky Steel Ingots.[3]
  2. "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest follows it.[3]
  3. "Controller" quest comes after that.[3]
  4. "Disk Drive" quest is next.[3]
  5. "Disk Interface" quest is the Cable Tiers quest, unlocked after the Disk Drive.[3]

The Constructor branches off the same Controller step instead. It comes after "Cables" quest, which itself comes after the Controller quest.[3]

13 of the 146 quests in this chapter aren't covered here, so if you're hunting for more Cable Tiers mentions, check the quest book itself.[3]

Which Cable Tiers config options matter?

5 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

Almost everything in the Cable Tiers config sits at the mod's own defaults in this pack. The one place the pack changed values is the Disk Interface speeds, so start there. All of these options live in the mod's common config file.[8]

What the pack changed: Disk Interface speed

The mod default for the Disk Interface speed options is 0. This pack sets real values for each tier, including Creative.[8]

Speed on the other cables

Autocrafters, Constructors, Destructors, Exporters and Importers keep the mod's default speed values. Here are two examples.[8]

Integrated stack upgrade

For Constructors, Disk Interfaces, Exporters and Importers, the pack has the stack upgrade built in at Ultra and Mega, but not at Elite. For example, tieredExporters.eliteStackUpgradeIntegrated is false, while tieredExporters.ultraStackUpgradeIntegrated and tieredExporters.megaStackUpgradeIntegrated are true. This matches the project page, which lists an integrated stack upgrade for Ultra and Mega.[1][8]

Energy usage

Energy usage is also at the mod defaults, and it differs by cable type and tier. A few examples:[8]

Interface transfer quota

Tiered Interfaces use a transfer quota multiplier instead of a speed option. The pack keeps the mod defaults:[8]

What changed in Cable Tiers between versions?

1 part

There is not much history to cover for Cable Tiers, but here is what the sources confirm. FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.10.0 ships Cable Tiers 1.21.1-0.6.14, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2: Aero 1.0.3 or earlier.[2]

Mod changelogs

  • 1.21.1-0.6.14 (the version in this pack): improved performance of sided input.[2][9]
  • 1.21.1-0.6.13: fixed a rare crash.[10]
