What is AE2 Things?
1 part
This pack ships AE2 Things 1.4.2-beta. It has been in the pack since version 1.0.3 or earlier, so it's part of the pack's Applied Energistics setup from early on.[1]
The one thing the pack's own quest text confirms about it is typeless drives. If you want to avoid typed drives in your digital storage, AE2 Things lets you make typeless ones for a slightly higher cost. I can't confirm anything else it adds from the sources I have, so check the quest book for more.[2]
Where it sits in the quest book
AE2 Things is mentioned in the "General Storage" chapter, in the group "Resources & Logistics". It is chapter 7 of 31 in the book and has 146 quests. The chapter opens with "General Storage Options" quest, a broad tour of the basic ways to store items.[2]
The mention is in "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest, which comes after the Cables and Channels quest. It asks you for an ME Drive and a 1k cell component. Its text explains how storage cells work, notes that add-ons in this pack change what gets stored and how, and then points to AE2 Things for typeless drives. The reward lets you pick the storage type you want.[2]
The Applied Energistics part of the chapter starts with "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest and then "A Certain Quartz" quest, which covers getting Certus Quartz. Quests such as "But where's the Sky Stone?" quest cover Sky Stone, which leads into the Refined Storage 2 quest "Welcome to Refined Storage 2" quest.[2]
How do you get started with AE2 Things?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
AE2 Things adds its own ME DISK Drives, and in this pack every one of them is built around an AE2 storage component of the matching size. So the first job is to get the components for the tier you want, then craft the drive.[3]
The drives come in these sizes: 1k ME DISK Drive, 4k ME DISK Drive, 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive.[3]
Start with the ME DISK Housing
The first item to make is the ME DISK Housing. Every drive tier has a shapeless recipe that combines a housing with the matching storage component, so crafting the housing first keeps your options open.[3]

Craft your first drive
Next, make the 1k ME DISK Drive. You can craft it from scratch with the shaped recipe, or use the housing you just made with the shapeless one.[3]

Move up the tiers
The bigger drives follow the same pattern. Each tier has a shaped recipe and a shapeless housing recipe, and the only thing that changes is the storage component you feed in. Here is the 4k ME DISK Drive.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show how the DISK drives behave in game, and they do not show any quests for this mod. There is no in-jar guidebook or lang description to draw on, so check the items in game before you plan around them.
How does AE2 Things work?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
This is a short section. The sources for this pack only cover the crafting side of AE2 Things, so that is all I can confirm here.[3]
The DISK Drive tiers
The mod's drives in this pack come in these capacity tiers: 1k ME DISK Drive, 4k ME DISK Drive, 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive. Each tier is built around the ME Storage Component of the same size, so you step up by moving to the next component.[3]
Crafting a DISK Drive
Every tier has a shaped recipe and a shapeless recipe. The shaped recipe makes the drive straight from the matching storage component and raw materials. The shapeless recipe combines the storage component with a premade ME DISK Housing.[3]
Here is the housing, followed by the 1k drive in both versions. The other tiers follow the same pattern with their own storage component.[3]

How do you progress through AE2 Things?
5 parts
AE2 Things adds one line of storage in this pack: the ME DISK Drive. It comes in five tiers, from 1k up to 256k, and the quest book walks you towards it through the main Applied Energistics path.[2][4]
Where it sits in the quest book
AE2 Things has no quest of its own that we can see. The mod is mentioned in "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest, in the "General Storage" chapter (group "Resources & Logistics", chapter 7 of 31). That quest tells you to build the ME Drive and some Storage Cells, then says AE2Things lets you make typeless drives for a slightly higher cost. It also says the quest rewards you with a choice of the storage type you want.[2]
You reach it by following this chain, each quest coming after the one before it:[2]
- "Getting Started With Applied Energistics!" quest, where you build the Charger.[2]
- "A Certain Quartz" quest, about getting Certus Quartz.[2]
- "Certus Quartz Budding" quest, about growing Certus crystals.[2]
- "Inscribing Processors" quest, where you set up the Inscriber.[2]
- "Silicon" quest, for Printed Silicon.[2]
- "Completing Processors" quest, where you make complete Processors.[2]
- "Cables and Channels" quest, about cables and channels.[2]
- "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest, the start of digital storage, where AE2 Things is mentioned.[2]
The chapter has 146 quests and the text of 46 of them isn't covered here, so check the quest book for anything beyond this chain.[2]
The five tiers
The tiers are 1k ME DISK Drive, 4k ME DISK Drive, 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive. Each one is built from the ME Storage Component of the same size, so the tier you want decides which component you need.[4]
Crafting the housing
The ME DISK Housing is the shell that the housing-based disk drive recipes use.[4]

Crafting with a housing
If you already have a housing, every tier also has a shapeless recipe that combines the matching storage component with it. These are the mod's own recipes, not changed by the pack. Here is the 1k version, and the other four tiers follow the same pattern.[4]
How does AE2 Things work with other mods?
2 parts
AE2 Things is an add-on for Applied Energistics 2, so almost everything it does plugs straight into your ME network. In this pack, the clearest link between the two mods is crafting: every ME DISK Drive is built from a regular AE2 storage component.[4]
Crafting DISK Drives from AE2 parts
The mod has five DISK Drive tiers: 1k ME DISK Drive, 4k ME DISK Drive, 16k ME DISK Drive, 64k ME DISK Drive and 256k ME DISK Drive. Each one uses the matching AE2 component, for example the 1k ME Storage Component for the 1k drive. Every tier also uses Quartz Glass from AE2.[4]
The pack changed the main shaped recipe for each DISK Drive tier, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the in-pack recipe for the 1k drive, and the other tiers follow the same pattern with their own component.[4]

Recipe id: ae2things:disk_drive_1k
The ME DISK Housing recipe was changed by the pack too:[4]
Crafting Shaped

Recipe id: ae2things:disk_housing
There is also a shortcut. If you already have a housing, you can combine it with the matching AE2 storage component in a shapeless recipe. That recipe is the mod's own, not a pack change.[4]
Where the quest book covers it
The quest "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest sits in the General Storage chapter, in the Resources & Logistics group (chapter 7 of 31 in the book). It comes after the Cables and Channels quest. It asks for an ME Drive (ME Drive) and a 1k ME Storage Component, and it mentions AE2 Things directly: you can make typeless drives for a slightly higher cost if you want to avoid typed ones.[2]
That quest also rewards you with a choice of the storage type you want. General Storage covers 146 quests in total, and most of them aren't shown here, so check the quest book for the rest.[2]
Which FTB Skies 2: Aero quests use AE2 Things?
2 parts
AE2 Things only shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: "General Storage". It sits in the "Resources & Logistics" group, as chapter 7 of 31 in the book. Its 146 quests cover Sophisticated Storage, Functional Storage, Refined Storage 2 and Applied Energistics 2, so the AE2 Things mention is a single line inside the AE2 digital storage path.[2]
The Start of Digital Storage!
The quest that mentions AE2 Things is "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest. It asks you to hand in two items: the ME Drive and the 1k ME Storage Component. The text explains that the ME Drive can house up to 10 AE Disks. Items stored in them can be accessed through interfaces, I/O Buses and Terminals.[2]
The AE2 Things part is this: if you want to avoid typed drives, AE2 Things lets you make typeless drives for a slightly higher cost. The quest also rewards you with a choice of the storage type you want.[2]
Unverified The quest text does not name the typeless drive items or list the exact reward choices, so check the reward screen in the quest book.
Where it sits in the chapter
The quest has a clear path leading into it. You reach it through this chain of AE2 quests:[2]
- "Completing Processors" quest comes first. It has you craft complete Processors in an Inscriber.[2]
- "Cables and Channels" quest follows. It explains AE channels and the three cable types.[2]
- "The Start of Digital Storage!" quest is the digital storage quest that mentions AE2 Things.[2]
Three quests unlock right after it. "Cell Workbench" quest covers configuring which items a storage cell accepts. "MEGA Storage" quest covers MEGA storage, which needs Sky Steel and a new type of Inscription Press. "Autocrafting" quest starts autocrafting with the Crafting Unit.[2]
