What is StevesCarts2?

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.6 guide

This pack includes StevesCarts2 at version 1.2.18, using the file stevescarts-1.21-1.2.18-neoforge.jar. It has been in the pack since version 1.9 or earlier, so it is not a recent addition.[1]

Unverified The sources I have for this mod only cover its version and file name, so I can't confirm in-pack details such as its features, recipes, config values or any changes the pack makes to it.

How do you get started with StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Steve's Carts 2 is about building carts out of parts, so your first goal is the Cart Assembler and the components that feed the rest of the mod's crafting. The recipes below are the ones in this pack, and the pack has changed several of them from the mod's defaults.[2][3]

Start with the Cart Assembler

The Cart Assembler is the block to make first. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from other versions. It uses a Component Simple Pcb, and that same part shows up again in many later recipes.[2]

Upgrade to the Advanced PCB

Next, turn your Simple PCB into an Component Advanced Pcb. The pack changed this recipe too, and it opens up the next tier of crafting, including the Module Toggler and the Component Blank Upgrade.[2]

The Module Toggler

The Module Toggler is another block whose recipe the pack changed, and it builds directly on the Advanced PCB from the previous step.[2]

The pane chain and the Cargo Manager

A lot of Steve's Carts parts are built from panes. Start with a Component Chest Pane, which uses the mod's own recipe. Then make an Component Iron Pane from it, which is a recipe the pack changed.[2]

The Component Large Iron Pane and the Component Huge Iron Pane are the next steps up from the iron pane. The Component Large Dynamic Pane is part of the same pane family, and the Cargo Manager is the payoff. Its recipe is the mod's own, shown below.[2]

Rails and the Liquid Manager

The Junction Rail is a cheap, unchanged mod recipe. The Liquid Manager is more involved: the pack changed its recipe, so check the block below and look for the Module Advanced Sctank before you start.[2]

How does StevesCarts2 work?

3 parts

StevesCarts2 is built around modular carts: you pick a hull, fit modules into it, and put it together in a Cart Assembler. Here is what the sources confirm about the assembler's effects and the hull rules.[3]

The Cart Assembler

Everything starts at the Cart Assembler. The pack changed its recipe, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults.[2]

This is the pack-changed recipe.

The mod's tooltips describe a set of effects that apply to the assembler. The sources don't say which item or upgrade gives which effect, so treat this as a list of what the assembler can do:[3]

  • Enable the use of Blueprint carts, and enable deployment of finished carts.[3]
  • Disassemble and modify carts, including picking up carts for modifying.[3]
  • Redstone-controlled assembling.[3]
  • An input chest with a set number of slots.[3]
  • A link between the assembler and a Manager.[3]
  • Power for the assembler: generating power per minute, generating power while in the sun, or running the assembler on lava from an internal tank.[3]
  • Faster work: an assembling efficiency percentage, plus set times for assembling modules, assembling whole carts and disassembling modules.[3]

The recipe dump also shows the pack changed several crafting parts that feed into these builds, such as Component Advanced Pcb, Component Blank Upgrade and Component Advanced Solar Panel. The pack-changed recipes are the ones to check in-game.[2]

Hull limits and module rules

Each hull has limits. Tooltips show a modular capacity, a module complexity cap, a maximum engine count and a maximum addon count. If a build breaks a limit, the assembler tells you why.[3]

  • Cost too high: your cost is greater than the capacity of the hull.[3]
  • Too complex: a module's complexity is too high for that hull.[3]
  • Missing parent: some modules require another module to work.[3]
  • Duplicates: some modules can't be added twice, while others are marked as allowing duplicates.[3]
  • Conflicts: some modules won't work with certain others, and tooltips list which ones they conflict with.[3]
  • Side clashes: modules occupy sides of the cart, or none at all, and two modules can't clash on the same side.[3]
Tip: Hold the key shown in a module's tooltip to see more info. The tooltip prompts you to press it for details, and that is where the side and conflict information appears.[3]

The Information Provider addon reports the cart's position as X, Y and Z coordinates. It also tells you when a tool is being repaired, and when a tool isn't damaged and you should remove the material.[3]

Managers, distributor and control blocks

The mod adds several support blocks around the assembler: Cargo Manager, Liquid Manager, External Distributor and Module Toggler. For track work it also has Junction Rail and Advanced Detector Rail. The pack changed the Liquid Manager and Module Toggler recipes. The other blocks here use the mod's own recipes.[2]

How do you progress through StevesCarts2?

5 parts

Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod, so the pack's quest book does not guide you through it. The order below is read from the in-pack recipes and from which components feed into which.

Many of these recipes were changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Where I say a recipe was changed, that is the pack's version you will craft.[2]

Circuits and the Cart Assembler

Everything starts with the Component Simple Pcb. The pack changed its recipe. It is an ingredient in the Cart Assembler, the Advanced PCB and the External Distributor, among other things.[2]

Wheels and the Advanced PCB

Wheels come in wooden, iron, reinforced and Galgadorian versions. The pack changed the recipes for Component Iron Wheels and Component Reinforced Wheels. Component Wooden Wheels and Component Galgadorian Wheels still use the mod's own recipes. The two upper tiers depend on Component Reinforced Metal and the Galgadorian materials covered below.[2]

The Component Advanced Pcb is the next circuit step after the Simple PCB, and the pack changed its recipe. The pack also changed the recipes for the Module Toggler, the Component Blank Upgrade and the Component Entity Scanner, so check those before you craft.[2]

Hardened and Galgadorian materials

The high-end parts run through a chain of treated materials. The pack changed the recipes for Component Raw Hardener and Component Stabilized Metal. Component Hardened Mesh and Component Refined Hardener are part of the same chain.[2]

Saw blades

The pack changed the recipes for Component Saw Blade, Component Hardened Saw Blade and Component Galgadorian Saw Blade. The hardened blade needs Reinforced Metal and the Galgadorian blade needs Galgadorian Metal, so those come from the later materials above.[2]

Logistics blocks

The managers and rails sit alongside the main chain. The pack changed the recipe for the Liquid Manager, and the recipe below shows how it uses the Module Advanced Sctank. The Cargo Manager, External Distributor, Junction Rail and Advanced Detector Rail use the mod's own recipes.[2]

How does StevesCarts2 work with other mods?

The one link between StevesCarts2 and another mod that the pack's recipes confirm is the Dimensional Memory Fragment. The pack adds this recipe itself, so it is not part of the mod's own recipes.[2]

It is made in a PneumaticCraft pressure chamber. One of the inputs is Component Enhanced Galgadorian Metal from StevesCarts2, and the other inputs come from other mods.[2]

Recipe id: ftb:dimensional_memory_fragment

Pack-added pressure chamber recipe that uses a StevesCarts2 component.

Tip: If you want a Dimensional Memory Fragment, check this recipe early. You will need the Steve's Carts component as well as items from several other mods.[2]
