Modern Industrialization Sound Addon is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 1.3.1-1.21.1. Addon for MI that adds sounds to the wrench and all the machines in the mod (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Modern Industrialization Sound Addon?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide

Modern Industrialization Sound Addon is a small quality-of-life addon for Modern Industrialization. As the name says, it adds sound: every singleblock and multiblock machine in Modern Industrialization gets its own noises, and so does using the wrench. If your factory has ever felt eerily quiet, this is the fix.[1]

The pack includes version 1.3.1-1.21.1 of the addon.[2]

The Steel Mallet

The addon also adds a Steel Mallet. Right-click a machine with it to silence the machine, and right-click again to unsilence it. That's handy once a big factory gets loud.[1]

Who it's for

It's for anyone building with Modern Industrialization who wants a more lively base. It adds no new machines or processing chains, so there's nothing new to learn.[1]

Watch out: The mod has to be installed on both the client and the server to work. If you play on a server, make sure both sides have it, or you won't hear anything.[1]

For modpack makers

If you add custom Modern Industrialization machines through the KubeJS compatibility, the addon's author has a guide for giving them sounds too. KubeJS is listed as an optional dependency of the addon.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified The sources don't place this addon anywhere in the pack's progression. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving it were found, so treat it as an optional extra and not something you need to unlock.

How do you get started with Modern Industrialization Sound Addon?

2 parts

This addon adds sounds to the singleblock and multiblock machines in Modern Industrialization, and it adds noises when you use the wrench. The one thing you can craft yourself is the Steel Mallet, so that is where you start.[1]

Your first steps

  1. Craft the Steel Mallet. The recipe block below is the exact one used in this pack.[3][4]
  2. Right-click one of your machines with the mallet to silence it. Right-click it again to unsilence it. You get a "Machine Silenced" or "Machine Unsilenced" message each time, so you always know which state it is in.[1][4]
  3. If you would rather tune sounds than silence machines one by one, open the config file and adjust volumes there (see below).[5]

If you are looking for the mallet in the creative inventory, it sits in the creative tab called "MI Sound Addon".[4]

Tuning the sound in the config

The pack leaves every volume option at the mod default of 1, and each one accepts values from 0.0 to 5.0. Until you change something, machines and wrenches sound just as the addon intends.[5]

There are also on/off switches: machine_sounds_enabled, generator_sounds_enabled, wrench_sounds_enabled and config_card_sounds_enabled. All of them are set to true in the pack.[5]

Individual machines have their own volume options too. For example, macerator_volume controls the Macerator and wrench_volume controls the wrench.[5]

Tip: This addon must be installed on both the client and the server to work. If you play on a server and hear nothing, that is the first thing to check.[1]

How does Modern Industrialization Sound Addon work?

4 parts

This addon is all about sound. It adds sounds to the singleblock and multiblock machines in Modern Industrialization, and it adds noises to wrench uses too.[1]

Watch out: The mod must be installed on both the client and the server to work. It also needs Modern Industrialization 1.6.14 or newer, plus everything that mod depends on. KubeJS is optional.[1]

Silencing machines with the Steel Mallet

If a machine room gets too noisy, grab the Steel Mallet. Right-click a machine with it to silence it, and right-click again to unsilence it. The game tells you which one happened with a "Machine Silenced" or "Machine Unsilenced" message.[1][4]

Sound toggles in the config

The pack's config file is config/mi_sound_addon-common.toml. It has on/off switches for machine, generator, wrench and config card sounds, and all of them are set to true in this pack, so everything is audible out of the box.[5]

Per-machine volume

Most machines get their own volume option, and each one accepts a value from 0.0 to 5.0. Every volume in this pack is set to 1, which is also the mod's default, so the pack has not changed any of them.[5]

A few examples are macerator_volume, electric_blast_furnace_volume, distillation_tower_volume, fusion_reactor_volume and quarry_volume. There are also entries for the wrench (wrench_volume) and the config card (config_card_volume).[5]

Tip: If one type of machine bothers you, turn down only its volume option instead of switching off all machine sounds. If you want just one specific machine quiet in your base, use the Steel Mallet on it.[4][5]

Custom machines

The mod's author says that if custom machines are added to Modern Industrialization through the KubeJS compatibility, sounds for them can be added by following a guide on the mod's wiki.[1]

How do you progress through Modern Industrialization Sound Addon?

Modern Industrialization Sound Addon is an add-on for Modern Industrialization, and in this pack the only recipe the sources show for one of its items is the Steel Mallet. It is a shaped crafting recipe added by the mod itself, so you make it in a normal crafting grid.[3]

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book places this mod in any chapter, and how it fits into the Modern Industrialization tiers, is told by the quest book itself. The sources here do not show it, so this guide gives no tier breakdown for the mod.

How does Modern Industrialization Sound Addon work with other mods?

2 parts

Modern Industrialization Sound Addon is built around one mod: Modern Industrialization. It adds sounds to the single-block and multiblock machines in Modern Industrialization, and it adds noises to the wrench as well. It is not affiliated with the Modern Industrialization team.[1]

The Steel Mallet recipe

The one in-pack recipe that links the two mods is the Steel Mallet. It uses Steel Plate, so you need to be making steel in Modern Industrialization before you can craft it. The recipe is a mod recipe, and the sources here do not show the pack changing it.[3]

Once you have the mallet, right-click a machine with it to silence it. Right-click again to unsilence it.[1]

Good to know

  • The mod has to be installed on both the client and the server to work.[1]
  • KubeJS is an optional dependency. If a pack adds custom machines to Modern Industrialization through the KubeJS compatibility, sounds can be added for those machines too.[1]

No quests in this pack involve the mod, so the quest book does not point you to it.[3]

Which Modern Industrialization Sound Addon config options matter?

3 parts

Good news: this addon is simple to tune. The config file is config/mi_sound_addon-common.toml, and in this pack none of the volume values were changed. Every volume is set to 1, which matches the mod default.[5]

Master sound toggles

A handful of on/off switches control whole categories of sound. This pack has all of them set to true, so everything is audible out of the box.[5]

Per-machine volumes

Each machine has its own volume option, and every one accepts a value from 0.0 to 5.0. A few examples are macerator_volume, electric_blast_furnace_volume, turbine_volume, quarry_volume and fusion_reactor_volume. All of them are set to 1 in this pack.[5]

Tool volumes work the same way: wrench_volume and config_card_volume are both 1 here.[5]

Tip: Not every option name ends in _volume. For example, the alloy smelter is alloy_smelter, the tesla coil is tesla_coil and the solar boiler is solar_boiler. Each one is still a volume setting in the same 0.0 to 5.0 range, so search for the machine name when you edit the file.[5]

Good to know

The mod has to be installed on both the client and the server to work. It also has a Steel Mallet, which you can right-click on a machine to silence or unsilence it. That is handy when you want to mute one noisy machine instead of changing the config.[1]

What changed in Modern Industrialization Sound Addon between versions?

3 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships Modern Industrialization Sound Addon 1.3.1-1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. Here is what changed across the mod's own releases, newest first.[6]

1.3.1-1.21.1 (the version in this pack)

  • The composter sound was converted to mono audio.[7]
  • Extended Industrialization's Tesla Tower now plays its sound from the top of the tower instead of from the controller.[7]
  • All boilers, turbines and diesel generators now have sounds.[7]
  • You can add custom sounds to custom-added Modern Industrialization generators through KubeJS. The mod's wiki explains how.[7]
  • Applying Redstone Control Modules and Overdrive Modules to machines now plays a sound.[7]
  • Fixed the wrench no longer making a sound after a previous patch.[7]
  • Added YAI! compatibility and updated the mod's dependencies.[7]
  • Internal cleanup: the Modern Industrialization mixins were moved to their own package.[7]

1.2.0-1.21.1

  • Added compatibility with the Tesseract-API batch crafter.[8]
  • Fixes for newer Modern Industrialization versions above 2.4.0.[8]
