What is Modern Industrialization Sound Addon?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Modern Industrialization Sound Addon is a small quality-of-life addon for Modern Industrialization. As the name says, it adds sound: every singleblock and multiblock machine in Modern Industrialization gets its own noises, and so does using the wrench. If your factory has ever felt eerily quiet, this is the fix.[1]
The pack includes version 1.3.1-1.21.1 of the addon.[2]
The Steel Mallet
The addon also adds a Steel Mallet. Right-click a machine with it to silence the machine, and right-click again to unsilence it. That's handy once a big factory gets loud.[1]
Who it's for
It's for anyone building with Modern Industrialization who wants a more lively base. It adds no new machines or processing chains, so there's nothing new to learn.[1]
For modpack makers
If you add custom Modern Industrialization machines through the KubeJS compatibility, the addon's author has a guide for giving them sounds too. KubeJS is listed as an optional dependency of the addon.[1]
Where it fits in progression
Unverified The sources don't place this addon anywhere in the pack's progression. No quests or ATM Star path steps involving it were found, so treat it as an optional extra and not something you need to unlock.
How do you get started with Modern Industrialization Sound Addon?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
This addon adds sounds to the singleblock and multiblock machines in Modern Industrialization, and it adds noises when you use the wrench. The one thing you can craft yourself is the Steel Mallet, so that is where you start.[1]
Your first steps
- Craft the Steel Mallet. The recipe block below is the exact one used in this pack.[3][4]
- Right-click one of your machines with the mallet to silence it. Right-click it again to unsilence it. You get a "Machine Silenced" or "Machine Unsilenced" message each time, so you always know which state it is in.[1][4]
- If you would rather tune sounds than silence machines one by one, open the config file and adjust volumes there (see below).[5]

The Steel Mallet, used to silence and unsilence machines.
If you are looking for the mallet in the creative inventory, it sits in the creative tab called "MI Sound Addon".[4]
Tuning the sound in the config
The pack leaves every volume option at the mod default of 1, and each one accepts values from 0.0 to 5.0. Until you change something, machines and wrenches sound just as the addon intends.[5]
There are also on/off switches: machine_sounds_enabled, generator_sounds_enabled, wrench_sounds_enabled and config_card_sounds_enabled. All of them are set to true in the pack.[5]
Individual machines have their own volume options too. For example, macerator_volume controls the Macerator and wrench_volume controls the wrench.[5]
How does Modern Industrialization Sound Addon work?
4 parts
This one is a little different from most industrial mods. Modern Industrialization Sound Addon doesn't add new machines or multiblocks. It adds sounds to all the singleblock and multiblock machines in Modern Industrialization, plus noises when you use the wrench.[1]
The mod has to be installed on both the client and the server to work. On a multiplayer world, that means everyone hears the machines the same way the server is set up.[1]
Silencing machines with the Steel Mallet
If a machine gets annoying, the Steel Mallet is your fix. Right-click a machine with it to silence it, and right-click again to unsilence it. The in-game tooltip says the same: right click your machines to silence or unsilence them.[1][4]
You get a message on screen each time, either "Machine Silenced" or "Machine Unsilenced", so you always know which state you left the machine in.[4]

Turning sounds on and off
There is a master switch in machineSoundsEnabled. It asks whether the machine sounds should be enabled, and it is set to true in this pack.[6]
Per-machine volume
Every sound source has its own volume option in config/mi_sound_addon-common.toml. Each one accepts a value from 0.0 to 5.0. This pack sets them all to 1, which is also the mod default, so nothing is changed from the original.[6]
The options cover the wrench and these singleblock-style machines:[6]
- Wrench: wrenchVolume[6]
- Basic processing: maceratorVolume, compressorVolume, cuttingMachineVolume, furnaceVolume, wiremillVolume[6]
- Crafting and handling: assemblerVolume, mixerVolume, packerVolume, unpackerVolume, polarizerVolume, pressurizerVolume[6]
- Chemistry and separation: centrifugeVolume, electrolyzerVolume, chemicalReactorVolume, distilleryVolume[6]
- Other: quarryVolume, replicatorVolume[6]
Multiblocks and large structures get their own options too:[6]
- Furnaces and freezing: cokeOvenVolume, blastFurnaceVolume (this one is the Steam Blast Furnace), electricBlastFurnaceVolume, vacuumFreezerVolume[6]
- Fluids and heat: distillationTowerVolume, heatExchangerVolume, oilDrillingRigVolume[6]
- Heavy industry and reactors: implosionCompressorVolume, fissionReactorVolume, fusionReactorVolume[6]
What this mod doesn't cover
Unverified The sources only describe this addon as adding sounds and the silencing mallet. They don't describe any change to machine power, fluid or item handling, or to automation, so those mechanics come from Modern Industrialization itself and aren't covered here.
How do you progress through Modern Industrialization Sound Addon?
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Modern Industrialization Sound Addon is an add-on for Modern Industrialization, and in this pack the only recipe the sources show for one of its items is the Steel Mallet. It is a shaped crafting recipe added by the mod itself, so you make it in a normal crafting grid.[3]

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book places this mod in any chapter, and how it fits into the Modern Industrialization tiers, is told by the quest book itself. The sources here do not show it, so this guide gives no tier breakdown for the mod.
How does Modern Industrialization Sound Addon work with other mods?
2 parts
Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide
Modern Industrialization Sound Addon is built around one mod: Modern Industrialization. It adds sounds to the single-block and multiblock machines in Modern Industrialization, and it adds noises to the wrench as well. It is not affiliated with the Modern Industrialization team.[1]
The Steel Mallet recipe
The one in-pack recipe that links the two mods is the Steel Mallet. It uses Steel Plate, so you need to be making steel in Modern Industrialization before you can craft it. The recipe is a mod recipe, and the sources here do not show the pack changing it.[3]

Good to know
- The mod has to be installed on both the client and the server to work.[1]
- KubeJS is an optional dependency. If a pack adds custom machines to Modern Industrialization through the KubeJS compatibility, sounds can be added for those machines too.[1]
No quests in this pack involve the mod, so the quest book does not point you to it.[3]
Which Modern Industrialization Sound Addon config options matter?
2 parts
Good news: this config is simple, and the pack leaves every volume option at the mod default. Nothing was changed, so what you get is the mod's own balance. Everything lives in one file, and you can tweak it if you want machines louder or quieter.[6]
The master switch
machineSoundsEnabled controls whether machine sounds play at all. The pack has it set to true, so sounds are on out of the box. Set it to false if you want complete silence from your machines.[6]
Per-machine volumes
Every machine has its own volume option. The pack sets each one to 1, which matches the mod default, and each accepts values from 0.0 to 5.0. Setting one to 0.0 should mute that machine, and going above 1 makes it louder.[6]
The ones you will probably want to adjust first are the machines you run in bulk or that sit near your base:[6]
- maceratorVolume and compressorVolume for the early-game processing machines.[6]
- assemblerVolume, mixerVolume and centrifugeVolume for mid-game setups.[6]
- quarryVolume and oilDrillingRigVolume for machines that run constantly.[6]
- electricBlastFurnaceVolume, fissionReactorVolume and fusionReactorVolume for the big multiblocks.[6]
- wrenchVolume for the wrench noises.[6]
What changed in Modern Industrialization Sound Addon between versions?
1 part
FTB Skies 2 1.11.0 includes Modern Industrialization Sound Addon 1.1.3-1.21. The mod list shows it was first included in FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier. There are no pack changelog entries for this mod, so the notes below come only from the mod's own changelogs.[7]
Mod changelog
- 1.1.3-1.21: updated to fix a crash when using Extended Industrialization. This is the version in the pack.[7][8]
- 1.1.2-1.21: updated for the latest version of Modern Industrialization.[9]
