What is LaserIO?
2 parts
LaserIO is a logistics mod that moves items, fluids, energy, chemicals and redstone signals between blocks. This pack includes version 1.9.11. If you're tired of hauling items between chests, machines and tanks by hand, this is the mod for you.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
It works in two parts. You place a Laser Node next to the blocks you want to connect, then put cards inside it. Cards are how Nodes interact with adjacent blocks, and without them a Node is worthless.[2]
The cards
- Item Card: sends items between inventories such as chests and furnaces. With no Overclockers it moves 8 items every 20 ticks, and with 4 Overclockers it reaches 64 items per tick.[6]
- Fluid Card: sends fluids between inventories such as tanks.[5]
- Energy Card: sends energy between machines and batteries. It can operate every tick by default, takes no Overclockers, and tops out at 1,000,000 FE/tick unless you lower it.[4]
- Chemical Card: sends chemicals between inventories such as Mekanism tanks. The mod's own guide says these cards are only available if Mekanism is installed.[3]
- Redstone Card: carries redstone signals across the whole network on a dedicated redstone channel, separate from the channels other cards use.[7]
Cards only talk to other cards on the same channel, so one network can run several routing setups side by side. Filters let you control what the cards are allowed to move.[8][9]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack has a logistics quest chapter for LaserIO. It starts with a quest to obtain the Laser Wrench, the Laser Node and the Laser Connector ("LaserIO" quest). Five quests unlock after that, one for each card type: fluid ("Fluid Card" quest), item ("Item Card" quest), energy ("Energy Card" quest), redstone ("Redstone Card" quest) and chemical ("Chemical Card" quest).[10]
Unverified The sources don't confirm which stage of the pack you need to reach before you can craft LaserIO's items, so check the recipes in the guide's later sections.
How do you get started with LaserIO?
5 parts
LaserIO lets you move items, fluids, energy and redstone signals between blocks. Everything starts with one ingredient, so that's where we begin.[11]
Step 1: Make Logic Chips
The Logic Chip is the main crafting ingredient in the mod. It's the only item crafted from vanilla materials, and everything else uses a chip in some way. You craft a Raw Logic Chip first, then smelt it.[12][13]

This one is a smelting recipe, so use a furnace.
Step 2: Wrench, Connector and Node
Next, make the three basics. The Laser Wrench links your blocks together, the Laser Connector is a cheaper intermediary point between nodes, and the Laser Node is the most important block in the mod because it's what interacts with adjacent blocks. The first quest in the logistics chapter, "LaserIO" quest, asks for exactly these three items.[10][11][14][15]

Step 3: Make an Item Card
A node does nothing on its own. Cards are how nodes interact with adjacent blocks, and without them nodes are worthless. The Item Card sends items between inventories such as chests and furnaces, so it's the natural first card. Its quest, "Item Card" quest, comes after the first logistics quest.[2][6][10]

Step 4: Set up your first link
- Place a node next to an inventory, such as a chest. Each side of a node has a 3x3 grid of card slots, and right clicking a side opens its UI.[11]
- Put an Item Card in the node and set its mode. An Extract card pulls items from the adjacent block and sends them to an Insert card, which is a valid destination for extracted items.[11][16]
- Make sure the matching cards are on the same channel. Cards only interact with other cards on the same channel.[8]
- To link two nodes, shift-right-click the first with the Laser Wrench to select it, then right click the second. The maximum range is 8 blocks, so use Laser Connectors if your nodes are further apart.[11][14][15]
What to unlock next
The other logistics quests each come after the first one and ask for a card: "Fluid Card" quest for the Fluid Card, "Energy Card" quest for the Energy Card, "Redstone Card" quest for the Redstone Card and "Chemical Card" quest for the Chemical Card. The Chemical Card is only available if Mekanism is installed.[3][10]

Once your first link works, a Basic Filter lets you limit which items a card moves. After that, a Card Holder helps you keep your growing pile of cards organized.[9][18][19]

How does LaserIO work?
8 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
LaserIO is built around one idea: a Laser Node touches the blocks next to it, and cards tell it what to do with them. Without cards, nodes do nothing. Once you understand nodes, cards, channels and filters, the rest of the mod falls into place.[20][21]
Nodes and connections
Each side of a node has a 3x3 grid of slots that accept cards. Right click a side to open its UI, and use the buttons along the top to switch sides if the one you want is hard to reach. A node can work with several adjacent inventories at once, and it can move items, fluids, energy or redstone depending on the cards you put in.[21]
To link nodes, use the Laser Wrench. Shift-right click a block to select it (the currently selected block is highlighted green), then right click another block to connect them. The maximum range for a connection is 8 blocks. For longer gaps, the Laser Connector is a cheaper intermediary point between nodes.[21][22][23]
The Advanced Laser Connector connects to basic connectors and nodes up to 8 blocks away, but it can only pair with one other Advanced Connector. The link between the pair has infinite range, even across dimensions. Pairing with a new partner breaks the old link, and the Laser Wrench shows you the partner's coordinates.[24]
The network settings screen is available from any node screen. It lets you change the network color and the laser transparency (Alpha and Wrench Alpha). This is purely cosmetic and has no effect on how the network works.[25]
Cards and modes
There is a card for each thing you want to move: the Item Card for items, the Fluid Card for fluids, the Energy Card for energy, and the Redstone Card for redstone signals. The Chemical Card moves chemicals between inventories such as Mekanism tanks, and it is only available if Mekanism is installed.[26][27][28][29][30]
The guide currently lists three modes that item, fluid and energy cards each support. Insert cards are valid destinations for whatever extractors pull out. Extract cards remove things from their adjacent block and send them to an insert card. Stock cards look for the items in their filter and pull them from insert cards elsewhere on the network, and they require a filter set to Allow.[31]
Sensor mode moves nothing. It checks an adjacent inventory, tank or cell against its filter and, on a match, emits a redstone signal of strength 15 on the chosen redstone channel. It does nothing without a filter. With a basic filter it matches any amount, and with a counting filter it matches that amount or more. An exact button on counting filters makes it match that amount only. An And/Or button decides whether all filters or just one must match. Only 1 sensor card per side per redstone channel is recommended, to avoid race conditions.[32]
Channels and routing
Cards only interact with other cards on the same channel. That lets you run several independent routing setups through one network. For example, a cobblestone extractor on the Orange channel feeds only Orange inserters, and a coal extractor on the Black channel feeds only Black inserters. Put an Orange inserter above a furnace and a Black one below, and each item goes where you want it.[33]
The Sneaky setting picks which side of the adjacent block a card works on. A furnace takes items on its top side, so you would set an insert card to Up there, and another card to Sneaky Down to push fuel in from the bottom.[34]
Insert cards have a Priority setting. By default inserters work nearest first, but you can raise or lower priority so that, for example, priority 10 is served before 0, which is served before -10. Equal priorities fall back to nearest first.[35]
Extract cards have Round Robin, with three settings. False follows priority and fills the first inventory completely before the next. True sends items to destinations in priority order, evenly spread. Enforced follows the same rules as True, but the extractor stops if one destination is full until it frees up. Chunk unloading can change round robin behavior.[36]
A few more options matter for precise setups. Exact, on extract and stock modes, makes a card move items only once the full Extract Amount is available (or, for a stocker, the amount it needs if that is smaller). Regulate, on stock mode, keeps the inventory at exactly the counting filter's amount. With it on, excess items are removed if an inserter can accept them. With it off, excess stays put.[37][38]
Speed and overclockers
Extract and stock cards have an Extract Amount and a Tick Speed. Extract Amount defaults to 1 with a maximum of 8 without overclockers. Tick Speed defaults to 20 ticks, which is also its minimum, with a maximum of 1200. Left click raises a value by 1, right click lowers it, shift multiplies the step by 10 and control multiplies it by 64.[39][40]
The Card Overclocker speeds up individual cards. Each one you add raises the allowed extract amount to 16, 32, 48 and then 64, and lowers the minimum tick speed to 15, 10, 5 and then 1. So four Card Overclockers are needed to move 64 items every tick.[28][39][40][41]
- Item Card maximums by overclocker count (0 to 4): 8 items per 20 ticks, 16 per 15, 32 per 10, 48 per 5, and 64 per 1.[28]
- Fluid Cards use the same five steps (20, 15, 10, 5 and 1 ticks) with much higher millibucket ceilings at each step. The exact figures are listed in the in-game Fluid Cards guide.[27]
- Chemical Cards follow the same five steps too, again with their own millibucket ceilings. The exact figures are listed in the in-game Chemical Cards guide.[30]
Energy cards work differently. They can operate every tick by default, they do not accept overclockers, and they always move at most 1,000,000 FE per tick (you can lower this). They also have a limit percentage. On insert and stock modes it defaults to 100% and sets how full the target gets. On extract mode it defaults to 0% and sets how much is left behind. For example, a 1,000,000 FE cell with a 25% extract limit will not be drained below 250,000 FE. The percentage does not work on storage cells holding more than about 2.14 billion FE.[26][42]
Separately, the Node Overclocker works on the node side rather than the card. A node side can only operate one card per tick, so if you have three extractors, the second only runs when the first fails to do anything. Each Node Overclocker lets that side handle more cards per tick, and 8 of them cover all 9 slots. Inserter cards do not need them, only extractor and stocker cards.[21][43]
Filters
Filters control what cards are allowed to move. You can open one by right clicking it, or from inside a card. The Basic Filter uses ghost slots, which only hold an image of an item, and you can drag items into them from JEI. It has an Allow/Deny toggle and a Compare NBT option. With Compare NBT on, a damaged or enchanted sword is treated as different from a fresh one.[44][45]
- Counting Filter: sets a number from 1 to 4096. In a stocker it keeps that amount in stock, in an inserter it limits how many items can be sent in, and in an extractor it leaves that many behind. It has no Allow vs Deny button, since all counting filters are Allow mode.[46]
- Mod Filter: matches by source mod. A Laser Wrench in the filter matches all LaserIO items and blocks.[47]
- Tag Filter: matches by item tags, such as the ingots tag that covers iron, gold, copper and tin. The list is an 'or' list, and it does not support NBT comparison.[48]
- Data Filter: works like the Tag Filter but lists NBT tag labels. Adding the enchantments tag, for example, matches every enchanted item regardless of which enchantments it has.[49][50]
Redstone control
Redstone cards carry signals across the whole network on their own redstone channel, separate from the normal channels. Input mode takes a signal from something like dust, a lever or a button and sends it onto the network. Output mode emits a signal to things like dust, lamps or repeaters, with a weak setting (adjacent blocks only) and a strong setting (can pass through an adjacent block, like a lever).[29]
Every card also has a redstone mode. Ignored (the default) means the card always works. Low means it only works with no signal on its redstone channel, and high means it only works with a signal.[29][51]
Managing cards
The Card Holder stores your cards. Cards inside stack up to 64 if their NBT matches, but a stack larger than 1 disables its filter and overclocker slots. Shift-right click the holder to make it pull cards from your inventory automatically (it glows while active). Filters and overclockers can be stored too, but filters are only auto-added if they hold no data.[52]
The Card Cloner copies card settings. In a node screen, pick it up and left click a card to copy, then right click another card to paste. Overclockers and filters are taken from or returned to the currently available Card Holder, not your inventory. If any needed item is missing, the paste fails completely rather than partly applying.[53]
Crafting the basics
The Logic Chip is the main crafting ingredient. It is the only item made from vanilla materials, and everything else uses a chip somehow. You make a Raw Logic Chip first, then smelt it.[50][54]

How do you progress through LaserIO?
4 parts
LaserIO progression in this pack is short. The pack's logistics quest chapter walks you through the basic kit first, then branches into the card types. Everything after that is optional upgrades you pick up as your network grows.[10]
Step 0: the Logic Chip
Nearly everything in the mod is built around the Logic Chip. You make a Raw Logic Chip in the crafting grid, then smelt it into the finished chip.[13]

Tier 1: wrench, node and connector
The first quest in the chapter, "LaserIO" quest, asks for three items: the Laser Wrench, the Laser Node and the Laser Connector. Every other quest in the chapter unlocks after this one.[10]

Cards are how nodes interact with the blocks next to them, and without cards a node does nothing. That makes the next tier mandatory.[2]
Tier 2: the card quests
Once the first quest is done, five quests open up in parallel, one for each card type. You can do them in any order.[10]
- "Item Card" quest asks for the Item Card, which moves items between inventories such as chests and furnaces. With no overclockers it moves 8 items per 20 ticks, and with 4 overclockers it reaches 64 items per tick.[6][10]
- "Fluid Card" quest asks for the Fluid Card, which moves fluids between inventories such as tanks. Its throughput also scales with overclockers, and the in-game guide lists the exact values per overclocker count.[5][10]
- "Energy Card" quest asks for the Energy Card. It works differently from the other cards: it can operate every tick by default, it tops out at 1,000,000 FE/tick, and overclockers can't go into it.[4][10]
- "Redstone Card" quest asks for the Redstone Card, which sends redstone signals across the whole network on its own dedicated redstone channel.[7][10]
- "Chemical Card" quest asks for the Chemical Card, which moves chemicals such as those in Mekanism tanks. It is only available when Mekanism is installed, and its throughput also scales with overclockers.[3][10]
The pack changed the Chemical Card recipe, so don't assume it matches the mod's default. The recipe that resets a Chemical Card's data was changed too. The other card recipes are the mod's own.[13]

Tier 3: upgrades beyond the quests
None of the items in this tier are quest tasks in the logistics chapter, so you'll craft them when you need them.[10]
- Card Overclocker: for extractor and stocker cards, the extract amount goes from the default maximum of 8 up to 16, 32, 48 and 64 as you add overclockers.[6][13][55]
- Node Overclocker: a separate overclocker item with its own recipe.[13]
- Basic Filter: limits what a card is allowed to move. It has allow and deny modes, and an option to compare NBT data.[13][18][56]
- Counting Filter: sets a number of items. In a stocker card it keeps that amount in stock, and in an extractor card it leaves that many behind.[13][57]
- Card Holder: stores cards, which stack up to 64 when their NBT data matches.[13][19]
- Card Cloner: copies card settings from one card and pastes them onto another from inside a node screen.[13][58]
- Advanced Laser Connector: links to one partner Advanced Connector with unlimited range, even across dimensions.[13][59]

How does LaserIO work with other mods?
3 parts
Cards are how Nodes interact with adjacent blocks, so most of LaserIO's contact with other mods happens through whatever inventories, tanks and batteries sit next to your Laser Nodes. Here is what the sources confirm.[2]
Guide Book recipe
The pack has a shapeless crafting recipe that produces the Guide Book and uses the Logic Chip. The recipe dump flags it as changed by the pack, so don't assume it matches the mod's default.[13]
Pack-changed recipe linking LaserIO and Patchouli.
Mekanism and the Chemical Card
The Chemical Card sends Chemicals between inventories, such as Mekanism tanks. The in-game guide says these cards are only available if Mekanism is installed. Its transfer rate goes up as you add overclockers, and the guide lists the exact values for 0 to 4 overclockers.[3]
The pack's logistics quest chapter includes a quest for the Chemical Card, "Chemical Card" quest. It comes after "LaserIO" quest, the quest for the Laser Wrench, Laser Node and Laser Connector.[10]
Energy storage from other mods
The Energy Card moves Energy between inventories such as machines and batteries. Forge Energy supports storage up to roughly 2.14 billion FE. The guide notes that mods like Draconic Evolution or Mekanism have storage cells that can hold more than that, and on those the Energy Limit % setting will not work.[4]
The Fluid Card and Item Card work the same way with tanks, chests and furnaces. The guide gives these only as examples and does not name specific mods for them.[5][6]
Which FTB Skies 2 quests use LaserIO?
2 parts
LaserIO shows up in one quest chapter in this pack: "logistics". It's a short chapter that walks you through the mod's basic gear. Every quest in it has an item task.[10]
First: the core network pieces
Everything starts with quest "LaserIO" quest. It has three tasks: get a Laser Wrench, a Laser Node and a Laser Connector. This is the only quest in the chapter with no prerequisite, and every other quest here comes after it.[10]
Then: the cards
Once the first quest is done, five quests open up. They all depend only on that first quest, so you can do them in any order. Each one asks for a single card type:[10]
- Quest "Item Card" quest asks for an Item Card.[10]
- Quest "Fluid Card" quest asks for a Fluid Card.[10]
- Quest "Energy Card" quest asks for an Energy Card.[10]
- Quest "Redstone Card" quest asks for a Redstone Card.[10]
- Quest "Chemical Card" quest asks for a Chemical Card.[10]
Which LaserIO config options matter?
3 parts
LaserIO keeps its card limits in one file, config/laserio-common.toml. Here's the good news: in this pack, every option below is set to the mod's default value. The pack changed none of them.[60]
Fluid Card limits
- card.fluid_card.base_milli_buckets_fluid is 5,000 in this pack (the mod default is also 5,000). This is how many millibuckets a Fluid Card can move without any Overclockers installed.[60]
- card.fluid_card.multiplier_milli_buckets_fluid is 10,000 in this pack (also the mod default). The number of Overclockers multiplied by this value gives the card's maximum millibuckets.[60]
Chemical Card limits
These two options only apply if Mekanism is installed, according to the config's own comments. They work the same way as the fluid options, just with bigger numbers.[60]
- card.chemical_card.base_milli_buckets_chemical is 15,000 in this pack (the mod default is 15,000). This is the amount for a Chemical Card without Overclockers.[60]
- card.chemical_card.multiplier_milli_buckets_chemical is 60,000 in this pack (also the mod default). The number of Overclockers multiplied by this value gives the maximum millibuckets.[60]
Energy Card limit
card.energy_card.max_fe_tick caps how much FE per tick an Energy Card can move. This pack sets it to 1,000,000, which matches the mod default.[60]
