LaserIO is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 1.10.2. Route Items, Fluids, and Energy around your world - with Lasers! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is LaserIO?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

LaserIO is a logistics mod. It moves items, fluids, energy and more between inventories through Nodes. This pack includes LaserIO 1.10.2.[1][2][3][4][5]

A Node on its own does nothing. Cards are how a Node interacts with the blocks next to it, and without them Nodes are worthless. So your first job is learning the cards.[2]

What the cards move

  • Item Cards send items between inventories such as chests and furnaces. They move 8 items per 20 ticks by default and up to 64 items per tick with 4 Overclockers.[3]
  • Fluid Cards send fluids between inventories such as tanks. They also get faster as you add Overclockers.[4]
  • Energy Cards send energy between machines and batteries. They can operate every tick by default, take no Overclockers, and max out at 1,000,000 FE per tick unless you lower it.[5]
  • Chemical Cards send Chemicals between inventories such as Mekanism Tanks, and only work when Mekanism is installed.[6]
  • Redstone Cards carry redstone signals across the whole LaserIO network on their own dedicated redstone channel.[7]

Control and convenience

Cards only interact with other cards on the same channel. That lets you run several separate routing setups on one network, for example cobblestone to the top of a furnace and coal to the bottom.[8]

Filters decide what cards are allowed to move. The in-game guide covers Basic, Counting, Mod, NBT and Tag filters.[9][10][11][12][13][14]

Two helpers save a lot of clicking. The Card Holder stores your cards, and it can pull cards out of your inventory automatically. The Card Cloner copies one card's settings and pastes them onto another from inside a Laser Node screen.[15][16]

How do you get started with LaserIO?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

LaserIO moves items, fluids, energy and redstone signals around your base. You place a Laser Node next to your machines and chests, then put Cards in the node to say what happens. Here is the order I'd craft things in, and why.[2][17]

Step one: Logic Chips

Start with the Raw Logic Chip and Logic Chip. Logic Chips are the main crafting ingredient in LaserIO and the only item made from vanilla materials. Everything else in the mod uses a chip somewhere, so make a few before anything else. In this pack the Raw Logic Chip is a shaped crafting recipe, and the finished Logic Chip is a smelting recipe.[18][19]

Step two: Laser Node and Item Card

The Laser Node is the most important block in the mod. It interacts with whatever is next to it, and one node can work with several adjacent inventories at once.[17]

A node does nothing on its own. Cards are how it talks to adjacent blocks, so you also need an Item Card to move items between things like chests and furnaces.[2][3]

    Step three: your first setup

    1. Place a Laser Node between two chests. Each side of a node has a 3x3 grid of card slots, and you right click a side to open its UI.[17]
    2. Put an Item Card on the chest side you want to empty and set it to Extract Mode. Extract Mode cards pull from the adjacent block and send to an insert card.[17][20]
    3. Put another Item Card on the other chest's side and set it to Insert Mode, which is a valid destination for extract cards.[20]
    4. Make sure both cards are on the same channel. Cards only interact with other cards on the same channel, which lets you run several routing setups on one network.[8]

Out of the box an Extract card pulls 1 item at a time, up to a maximum of 8 without Card Overclockers. Item Cards with no overclockers move at most 8 items every 20 ticks.[3][21]

    Step four: connecting distant inventories

Craft the Laser Wrench to link blocks together. Shift-right-click one block to select it, then right click another to connect them. The maximum connection range is 8 blocks.[22]

If your nodes are further apart than that, use the Laser Connector, which is a cheaper intermediary point between nodes.[17][23]

    Step five: quality-of-life upgrades

Once the basics work, craft a Card Holder. It stores stacks of cards, up to 64 when their NBT data matches, and it can also hold filters and overclockers.[15]

Tip: Shift-right-click the Card Holder to make it start pulling cards out of your inventory. It glows like an enchanted item while this is on. Shift-right-click again to turn it off.[15]

After that, the Basic Filter lets you limit which items a card handles, and the Card Overclocker makes a single card faster. The Card Cloner copies card settings for you once you have many cards to set up.[9][10][16][24]

Watch out: The Advanced Laser Connector pairs with one other Advanced Connector with no range limit, even across dimensions. It does not chunk load, and nodes in unloaded chunks will not operate, so you have to handle chunk loading yourself.[25]

    How does LaserIO work?

    9 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

LaserIO is built around two ideas: a Laser Node touches the blocks next to it, and cards placed in that node decide what happens. The guide is blunt about it: without cards, nodes are worthless. Here is how the pieces fit together.[2][17]

    Nodes and networks

Each side of a node has a 3x3 grid of slots that accept cards. Right click a side to open its screen, and use the buttons along the top to switch sides if the one you want is hard to reach. A node can work with several adjacent inventories at once.[17]

To link nodes, use the Laser Wrench. Shift-right-click a block to select it (it highlights green), then right click another node or connector to connect them. The maximum connection range is 8 blocks.[17][22]

For longer gaps, the Laser Connector acts as a cheaper intermediary point between nodes. The Advanced Laser Connector works the same way but pairs with exactly one other Advanced Connector, and that pair has infinite range, even across dimensions. Linking a new partner breaks the old pairing. Holding the wrench and looking at the block shows the partner's coordinates.[23][25]

Watch out: Advanced Laser Connectors do not chunk load. Nodes in unloaded chunks will not operate, so you have to handle chunk loading yourself.[25]

The network settings screen, available from any node screen, lets you change the network color. The color applies to nodes, connectors and the lasers between them, and it spreads across the whole network. It is purely cosmetic. There are also Alpha and Wrench Alpha settings for laser transparency, so you can make lasers visible only while you hold the wrench.[26]

    Card types

    • Item Card: moves items between inventories such as chests and furnaces.[3]
    • Fluid Card: moves fluids between inventories such as tanks.[4]
    • Energy Card: moves energy between machines and batteries.[5]
    • Redstone Card: sends redstone signals across the whole network.[7]
    • Chemical Cards: move chemicals between inventories such as Mekanism tanks, and only exist if Mekanism is installed.[6]

    Modes

Item, Fluid and Energy cards share the same modes. Extract cards pull from the adjacent block and send to Insert cards. Insert cards are valid destinations for extractors. Stock cards look for the items in their filter and pull them from Insert cards elsewhere on the network, and they need a filter set to Allow. Sensor mode moves nothing: it checks the adjacent inventory against its filter and needs a filter to work.[20]

Right clicking a card in your hand, or inside a node, opens its screen. Insert mode shows Mode, Sneaky, Filter, Card Overclocker, Priority, Channel, Redstone Mode and Redstone Channel. Extract and Stock modes show Extract Amount and Tick Speed instead of Priority. Extract adds Round Robin and Exact, and Stock adds Regulate and Exact.[27]

    Routing settings

    • Channel: cards only talk to cards on the same channel. An Orange extractor only feeds Orange inserters, so one node can send cobblestone into the top of a furnace on one channel and coal into the bottom on another.[8]
    • Sneaky: picks which side of the adjacent block the card works on. For a furnace with the node on its side, set an insert card to Up for the top slot and another to Sneaky Down for fuel.[28]
    • Priority (Insert only): inserters go nearest first by default. A higher number is served first, so 10 beats 0, which beats -10. Ties fall back to nearest first.[29]
    • Round Robin (Extract only): False follows priority and fills the first inventory before the next. True spreads items evenly in priority order. Enforced follows the True rules but stops the extractor if a destination is full. Chunk unloading can change how this behaves.[30]
    • Exact (Extract and Stock): an extractor only moves items once the full Extract Amount is available. A stocker moves items only if the amount it needs, or its Extract Amount (whichever is smaller), is available in the network.[31]
    • Regulate (Stock only): with a Counting Filter, keeps exactly the requested amount. Excess is removed only if an inserter can accept it. Without Regulate, excess stays put.[32]

    Speed and overclockers

Item cards run once every 20 ticks by default, and Card Overclocker upgrades make them faster. Extract Amount defaults to 1 with a maximum of 8, and Tick Speed has a default and minimum of 20 with a maximum of 1200. With overclockers installed, the allowed Extract Amounts are 16, 32, 48 and 64, and the minimum Tick Speeds are 15, 10, 5 and 1.[3][21][24][33]

Item card maximums by overclocker count are listed below.[3]

    • 0 overclockers: 8 items per 20 ticks.[3]
    • 1 overclocker: 16 items per 15 ticks.[3]
    • 2 overclockers: 32 items per 10 ticks.[3]
    • 3 overclockers: 48 items per 5 ticks.[3]
    • 4 overclockers: 64 items per tick.[3]

Fluid cards and Chemical Cards scale with overclockers in the same way. Each card's guide page lists a maximum mB per tick for every overclocker count, and the numbers rise with each overclocker you add, so check those pages for the exact figures.[4][6]

There is a second limit at the node. Each node side operates on only one card per tick, so with three extractors on a side, the later ones only act if the earlier ones did nothing. Each Node Overclocker installed on a side lets it handle more cards per tick, and 8 of them cover all 9 slots. Inserter cards do not need these, only Extractor and Stocker cards do.[34]

    Energy cards

Energy cards are the odd ones out. They can operate every tick by default, overclockers cannot go into them, and they always move at most 1,000,000 FE per tick, which you can lower.[5]

They also have an Energy Limit % setting. In insert and stock modes it defaults to 100% and sets how full the target gets, so 50% on a block that holds 1,000,000 FE fills it only halfway. In extract mode it defaults to 0% and sets how much is left behind, so 25% on a 1,000,000 FE cell stops extraction at 250,000 FE.[5][35]

Watch out: Forge Energy supports storage up to about 2.14 billion FE. Cells from mods like Draconic Evolution or Mekanism can hold more than that, and the percentage limit will not work on cells above that size.[5]

    Redstone

Redstone cards use their own redstone channel, separate from the item channels. In Input mode they take a signal from dust, a lever or a button and broadcast it on the card's channel. In Output mode they emit a signal to things like dust, lamps or repeaters. Output has a Weak or Strong toggle: weak only affects directly adjacent blocks, while strong passes through an adjacent block, like a lever does.[7][36]

Every card has a redstone mode. Ignored is the default, so the card always runs. Low means it only runs when there is no signal on its redstone channel, and High means it only runs when there is one.[7][37]

Sensor mode feeds this system. When the adjacent inventory, tank or cell matches the filter, the card emits a signal of strength 15 on its redstone channel. A Basic Filter checks for any amount. A Counting Filter checks for at least the set amount, unless you enable exact mode. Sensors also have an And/Or button for multi-entry filters. Use only one sensor card per side per redstone channel, because several can cause race conditions.[38]

    Filters

Filters limit what a card may insert, extract or stock, and you open them on their own or from inside a card. Most have an Allow or Deny toggle, and a Compare NBT option decides whether item data like damage or enchantments counts. Filter slots are ghost slots that only show an image, and you can drag items into them from JEI if it is installed.[10][39]

    • Counting Filter: sets amounts from 1 to 4096. On a stocker it keeps that much in stock, on an inserter it caps how much can be sent in, and on an extractor it leaves that many behind. It has no Allow or Deny button, because all counting filters are Allow mode.[11]
    • Tag Filter: filters by item tags, such as the ingots tag. The list is an 'or' list, so matching any one tag counts. It does not do NBT comparisons.[14]
    • Mod Filter: matches by the mod an item comes from. Putting a Laser Wrench in it matches all LaserIO items and blocks.[12]
    • Data Filter: works like the Tag Filter, but on NBT tag labels. Adding the enchantments tag matches every enchanted item whatever the enchantments are.[13][19]

    Managing cards

The Card Holder stores cards, and cards stack to 64 if their NBT matches. Shift-right-click it to toggle automatic card pickup from your inventory, and it glows while active. Filters and overclockers can be stored too. Stacked cards (size above 1) have their Filter and Overclocker slots disabled to prevent duping. Filters only auto-add if they have no stored data. Crafting a card or filter on its own clears its saved data.[15]

The Card Cloner copies settings between cards. In a node screen, pick it up and left click a card to copy, then right click another card to paste. Overclockers and filters are taken from or returned to your available Card Holder, not your main inventory. If anything is missing, the whole paste fails rather than applying partially.[16]

Unverified The sources here show no quests tied to LaserIO and no place for it on the pack's main quest path. The progression below follows the mod's own items, upgrades and the in-pack recipes instead of quest steps.

Tier 1: Getting a network running

Everything starts with the Laser Node. Cards are how a node interacts with the blocks next to it, and without them a node is worthless. So your first goal is a node plus at least one card.[2][19]

The Laser Connector connects to other connectors and nodes up to 8 blocks away. The Laser Wrench is also in the mix: with it in your hand you can look at a block and read details such as a partner connector's coordinates. The Item Card is a good first card, since it moves items between inventories like chests and furnaces.[3][19][25]

    Tier 2: Speed with overclockers

Out of the box, an Item Card moves 8 items every 20 ticks. The Card Overclocker speeds that up, and you can install up to 4 of them in a card.[3][19][21]

    • Item Cards: 0 overclockers gives 8 items per 20 ticks, 1 gives 16 per 15 ticks, 2 gives 32 per 10 ticks, 3 gives 48 per 5 ticks, and 4 gives 64 per tick.[3]
    • Fluid Cards (Fluid Card) use the same steps: the operation interval drops from 20 ticks with no overclockers to 15, 10, 5 and finally 1 tick with 4 overclockers, and the amount moved per operation grows with each one.[4]
    • Energy Cards (Energy Card) work differently. They can operate every tick by default, overclockers can't go into them, and they always cap at 1,000,000 FE per tick, which you can lower if you want.[5]
    • Chemical Cards only exist if Mekanism is installed. They follow the same 0 to 4 overclocker scaling, with intervals of 20, 15, 10, 5 and 1 ticks.[6]

Tier 3: Filters and smarter routing

Filters control what cards are allowed to move. In allow mode the listed items pass, and deny mode is the opposite. The Compare NBT option decides whether item data such as damage or enchantments counts as part of the match. The Basic Filter is where you start.[9][19][39]

The Counting Filter adds quantities, with stack sizes from 1 to 4,096. On a stocker it keeps that amount in stock, on an inserter it limits how much can be sent in, and on an extractor it leaves that amount behind. It has no deny mode.[11][19]

The pack also has recipes for the Mod Filter, Tag Filter and Data Filter. The Mod Filter sorts by which mod an item comes from.[12][19]

Channels let you run several routing setups on one network. Cards only interact with other cards on the same channel, so cobblestone and coal can feed different sides of the same furnace.[8]

Tier 4: Long range and quality of life

The Advanced Laser Connector works like a normal connector, reaching connectors and nodes up to 8 blocks away. It pairs with exactly one other Advanced Connector, and that link has infinite range, even across dimensions. It does not chunk load, so nodes in unloaded chunks won't run.[19][25]

The Redstone Card sends redstone signals across the whole network on its own redstone channel, separate from the channels other cards use. It has input and output modes.[7][19]

The Card Holder stores cards, filters and overclockers. Cards stack up to 64 if their NBT matches, and shift-right clicking toggles automatic card pickup from your inventory.[15][19]

The Card Cloner copies one card's settings and pastes them onto another from inside a node screen. If any needed overclocker or filter is missing from the Card Holder, the paste fails completely rather than applying part of the settings.[16][19]

Tip: Crafting a card or filter by itself clears its saved data. That's handy for stacking cards in a Card Holder, since filters are only auto-added to it when they have no stored data.[15]

    Which LaserIO config options matter?

    3 parts

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 guide

LaserIO keeps its card limits in one file, config/laserio-common.toml. Here's the good news: in this pack, every option below is set to the mod's default value. The pack changed none of them.[40]

    Fluid Card limits

    Chemical Card limits

These two options only apply if Mekanism is installed, according to the config's own comments. They work the same way as the fluid options, just with bigger numbers.[40]

    Energy Card limit

card.energy_card.max_fe_tick caps how much FE per tick an Energy Card can move. This pack sets it to 1,000,000, which matches the mod default.[40]

Tip: Every one of these options accepts any value above 0. If you run your own copy of the pack and want faster fluid or energy transfer, these are the numbers to raise. Just remember the pack's own values are the defaults listed above.[40]
