What is FTB Ultimine?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.38 guide

FTB Ultimine is part of this pack. This pack ships version 2100.1.0, using the NeoForge build (ftb-ultimine-neoforge-2100.1.0.jar).[1]

It isn't a new addition. It was already in the pack in 0.32 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for several releases.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what FTB Ultimine does in this pack, so I can't confirm its mechanics, keybinds, config options or any pack-specific changes. Check the in-game controls and config screen yourself before relying on any of that.

Unverified Where it fits in progression is unconfirmed. No quests involving this mod were found, and it doesn't appear to be on the ATM Star quest path. I haven't found anything in the sources that says it gates or unlocks other content.

How do you get started with FTB Ultimine?

5 parts

FTB Ultimine lets you break or modify a whole group of blocks in one go. The sources I have for this pack only cover the mod's in-game text, so this section sticks to the controls and settings you will meet first, rather than a crafting order.[2]

Find your Ultimine key

The mod adds its own key binding, listed under the FTB Ultimine category in your controls. The default key is the backtick key. Holding it is how you switch Ultimine on while you mine.[2]

Pick a shape

Ultimine can break blocks in different shapes. With the default keys, the up and down cursor keys cycle through them. You can also hold the Ultimine key and sneak at the same time to open the shape selection menu, which shows the selected shape with some shape names above and below it.[2]

A few client settings change this. One decides whether you must hold the Ultimine key to cycle shapes with the keyboard. If it is off, you can cycle at any time. Another decides whether you must sneak to show the shapes menu. There is also an option to show a hotbar message with the new shape whenever you change it.[2]

Use a proper tool

The server can require that you hold either a damageable tool or an item in the ftbultimine:tools item tag before Ultimine works. A separate option can require the tool to be valid for the block, meaning it can actually harvest the drops. If Ultimine does nothing, check your tool first.[2]

There is also a durability guard: Ultimining stops when your tool has a set amount of durability or less left. Setting that value to 0 lets tools break.[2]

Limits to know about

  • A maximum number of blocks can be broken or modified in one operation.[2]
  • A cooldown, measured in ticks, applies between uses. 20 ticks is 1 second.[2]
  • Each block can cost hunger exhaustion and experience. Both amounts can be fractional.[2]
  • If FTB Ranks is installed, its permission nodes for max blocks, cooldown, exhaustion and experience take priority over the mod's own settings.[2]

Farming

There is a server option for single crop harvesting. When it is on, right-clicking a crop without the Ultimine key held harvests it.[2]

Tip: If the shape preview looks too faint or too big, the client settings let you change the preview line opacity and the overlay scale. Multiples of 0.25 are recommended for the scale, for the best font appearance.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show the pack's actual Ultimine values, such as the block limit, cooldown, costs, or whether a tool is required. Those are set in the mod's server settings, and the sources here do not show them.

How does FTB Ultimine work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

The sources for FTB Ultimine only cover its settings tooltips, so this section explains what those settings do. It is a set of controls and server-side rules for breaking or modifying many blocks in one operation. Anything the tooltips don't confirm is left out.[3]

Choosing a shape

You work with Ultimining shapes through the Ultimine key, which is the backtick key by default. Shapes are cycled with the up and down cursor keys by default. A client setting decides whether you must hold the Ultimine key to cycle. If it is off, you can cycle shapes at any time.[3]

  • Shape menu: hold the Ultimine key and sneak at the same time to show the shape selection menu. A client setting controls whether sneaking is required when you press the Ultimine key.[3]
  • Menu context lines: you can set how many shape names appear above and below the selected shape in the menu.[3]
  • Hotbar feedback: you can turn on a hotbar message that names the new shape whenever you change it.[3]
  • Overlay: there are settings for the horizontal and vertical inset, which is measured toward the center of the screen and ignored when that axis is centered. The overlay scale looks best in multiples of 0.25.[3]
  • Preview lines: you can adjust the opacity of preview lines that sit inside blocks.[3]

Costs and limits

The server controls how much Ultimining can do and what it costs you. If FTB Ranks is installed, its matching nodes take priority over these settings when present.[3]

  • Max blocks: the maximum number of blocks that can be broken or modified in one operation. FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.max_blocks node.[3]
  • Exhaustion per block: the hunger exhaustion each block costs. It can be a fractional amount, and FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.exhaustion_per_block node.[3]
  • Experience per block: the experience each block costs. It can also be fractional, and FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.experience_per_block node.[3]
  • Cooldown: the time in ticks required between uses of Ultimine, where 20 ticks is 1 second. FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.ultimine_cooldown node.[3]

Tool rules

Several server settings decide which tools can Ultimine. One requires you to have equipped either a damageable tool or an item in the ftbultimine:tools item tag. Another requires the equipped tool to be valid for the block being Ultimined, meaning it must be able to harvest dropped items.[3]

Tool protection is a separate setting. Ultimining stops once the equipped tool has this much durability or less remaining, and setting it to 0 allows tools to break.[3]

Watch out: If the tool protection setting is 0, Ultimining can use up your tool completely. Check the server's value before you run a big dig with a tool you care about.[3]

Which blocks get included

The merge-tag settings widen what counts as the same kind of block. In shapeless digging mode, any block in the listed tags that shares a block tag with the block you mined is a valid candidate. Shaped digging modes have their own list that works the same way, and its default of '*' means any block is a valid candidate.[3]

An advanced setting controls what happens when the dig meets unbreakable blocks. It can stop digging there instead of skipping over them.[3]

Extra features

  • Single crop harvesting: when enabled, right-clicking a crop without the Ultimine key held harvests it.[3]
  • Right-click crystals: this harvests vanilla Amethyst and other modded crystals. It requires the FTB Ez Crystals mod and is NeoForge only.[3]

Unverified The pack's actual values for the settings above (max blocks, cooldown, exhaustion and experience costs, tool protection, and which options are enabled) are not shown in the sources here, because no config files for this mod were available. They are set in the mod's own config files, so check them in game before relying on any default.
