What is FTB Ultimine?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.38 guide

FTB Ultimine is part of this pack. This pack ships version 2100.1.0, using the NeoForge build (ftb-ultimine-neoforge-2100.1.0.jar).[1]

It isn't a new addition. It was already in the pack in 0.32 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for several releases.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what FTB Ultimine does in this pack, so I can't confirm its mechanics, keybinds, config options or any pack-specific changes. Check the in-game controls and config screen yourself before relying on any of that.

Unverified Where it fits in progression is unconfirmed. No quests involving this mod were found, and it doesn't appear to be on the ATM Star quest path. I haven't found anything in the sources that says it gates or unlocks other content.

How do you get started with FTB Ultimine?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide

With FTB Ultimine your first steps are about controls and rules, not crafting. The sources for this pack show the keybinds and the server rules that decide whether Ultimining works, so that is what we cover here, in order.[2]

Step 1: Learn the keys

  1. Find the "Activate Ultimining" keybind in the controls screen, under the "FTB Ultimine" category. By default it is the backtick key.[2]
  2. Set up shape cycling. "Cycle to Next Shape" and "Cycle to Previous Shape" are separate keybinds, and by default they use the up and down cursor keys.[2]
  3. By default the Ultimine key has to be held to cycle shapes with the keyboard. A client setting lets you cycle at any time if you turn that requirement off.[2]
  4. Open the shape menu by pressing the Ultimine key. A client setting decides whether you must also sneak to show it. With the menu open you can see a set number of shape names above and below the selected one.[2]
  5. If you want a message when you change shape, there is a client option to show it on the hotbar.[2]

Step 2: Check your tool

The server can require a tool before Ultimining works. If that option is on, you need to have equipped either a damageable tool or an item in the ftbultimine:tools item tag. A separate option can also require the tool to be valid for the block you are mining, meaning it can harvest the dropped items.[2]

There is also a durability guard. Ultimining stops when your equipped tool has the configured amount of durability or less left. Setting it to 0 allows tools to break, so keep an eye on this before you commit a good tool to a big vein.[2]

Step 3: Know the limits

  • There is a maximum number of blocks that can be broken or modified in one operation.[2]
  • There is a cooldown between uses, measured in ticks (20 ticks = 1 second).[2]
  • Each block can cost hunger (exhaustion) and experience, and both amounts can be fractional.[2]
  • If FTB Ranks is installed, its nodes for max blocks, cooldown, exhaustion per block and experience per block take priority over the server settings.[2]

One extra for farmers: when single crop harvesting is on, right-clicking a crop without the Ultimine key held harvests it.[2]

Unverified The pack's actual values for the block limit, cooldown, exhaustion, experience and tool durability guard are set in the mod's server settings, and the sources here do not show them. Check them in game if a limit surprises you.

How does FTB Ultimine work?

5 parts

FTB Ultimine is not a machine mod. The sources show no power, fluid or item handling and no multiblock. It works by letting one tool action break or modify a whole group of blocks. The setting for the maximum number of blocks that can be broken or modified in one operation caps how big that group can get.[2]

Activating Ultimine and picking a shape

  • The keybind is called "Activate Ultimining" and sits in its own FTB Ultimine category. The tooltip names the backtick key as the default.[2]
  • Shapes are cycled with the "Cycle to Next Shape" and "Cycle to Previous Shape" keybinds. The up and down cursor keys are the defaults.[2]
  • A client option decides whether you must hold the Ultimine key to cycle shapes. If it is off, you can cycle at any time.[2]
  • Holding the Ultimine key and sneaking opens the shape selection menu. A separate client option controls whether sneaking is required to show it. Another sets how many shape names appear above and below the selected one.[2]
  • Another client option shows a hotbar message with the new shape whenever you change it.[2]

Costs and limits

The server side has several settings that make big mining runs cost something. These are the ones the language file describes.[2]

  • Exhaustion per block and experience per block can each be a fractional amount.[2]
  • The Ultimine cooldown is the time in ticks required between successive uses of Ultimine. 20 ticks is 1 second.[2]
  • If FTB Ranks is installed, its nodes ftbultimine.exhaustion_per_block, ftbultimine.experience_per_block, ftbultimine.max_blocks and ftbultimine.ultimine_cooldown take priority over the matching settings, when a node is present.[2]

Tool rules

One server setting requires you to have equipped either a damageable tool or an item in the ftbultimine:tools item tag. Another requires the equipped tool to be valid for the block being ultimined, meaning it must be able to harvest dropped items.[2]

A further setting protects your gear. Ultimining stops once the equipped tool has the configured durability or less remaining, and setting it to 0 allows tools to break.[2]

Tools that Ultimine ignores

The mod's excluded_tools item tag points at a strict sub-tag. In the mod's jar, that strict tag lists the Mining Gadget MK3 from Mining Gadgets, plus several Ars Nouveau spell book items. All of these entries are marked as not required, so they only apply when the mod that owns them is present.[3][4]

The mod's jar ships the included_tools item tag with no entries.[5]

Which blocks get included

  • Shapeless digging has a merge tags setting. Any blocks in those tags that share a block tag with the block you mined become valid Ultimine candidates.[2]
  • Shaped digging modes have their own merge tags setting that works the same way. A value of '*' means any block is a valid candidate.[2]
  • An advanced setting makes digging stop when an unbreakable block is met, instead of skipping over it.[2]
  • With single crop harvesting on, right-clicking a crop block without the Ultimine key held harvests just that crop.[2]
  • Right-click crystal harvesting covers vanilla Amethyst and other modded crystals. It requires the FTB Ez Crystals mod and is NeoForge only.[2]

Tilling and flattening use block tags too. In the mod's jar, both the farmland_tillable and shovel_flattenable tags contain dirt, grass block and coarse dirt. They also include the #forge:dirt and #c:dirt tags as optional entries.[6][7]

The mod's jar also ships these block tags with no entries: block_whitelist, excluded_blocks and single_crop_harvesting_blacklist.[8][9][10]

Unverified The actual values of the server settings (maximum blocks, exhaustion, experience, cooldown, tool durability cutoff) are set in the mod's config files. The sources here do not include those files for this pack, so the pack's values are not shown.

How do you progress through FTB Ultimine?

2 parts

The sources here show no tiers or upgrade path for FTB Ultimine. What they do show is which tools and blocks the mod treats specially through its tags, and that is worth knowing as you move through the pack.[3][4]

Tools that Ultimine skips

The mod has an excluded tools tag, and it points at a "strict" group of items. Items in that group are kept out of Ultimine, even if you might hold them like a mining tool.[3][4]

Blocks for tilling and flattening

For farmland tilling and shovel flattening, the mod ships tags that cover dirt, grass blocks and coarse dirt, plus the common dirt tags from other mods.[6][7]

The mod's block whitelist, excluded blocks list, single crop harvesting blacklist and included tools list all ship empty. Out of the box, these tags do not single out any extra blocks or tools.[5][8][9][10]

Unverified Whether the pack's quest book has any quests for Ultimine, and whether any in-pack recipe produces its items, is not shown by the sources here. Check the quest book and the recipe viewer in game for that. This site does hold All the Mods 11's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
