What is FTB Ultimine?
FTB Ultimine is included in this pack at version 2101.1.15, shipped as the NeoForge build (ftb-ultimine-neoforge-2101.1.15.jar). It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it is a long-standing part of the mod list rather than a recent addition.[1]
Unverified The sources I had don't describe what FTB Ultimine does in this pack, who it is aimed at, or how it fits into progression. There is no guidebook, platform description or quest data to confirm any of that, so I'm not guessing. Nothing confirms that the mod appears on the ATM Star path or in any quest.
How do you get started with FTB Ultimine?
3 parts
FTB Ultimine is a mod you learn through keys and settings rather than through crafting. The first steps are about the Ultimine key, your tool and the limits the server can set.[2]
Step by step
- Equip a tool that can take damage. When the require-tool server setting is on, you must have equipped either a damageable tool or an item in the ftbultimine:tools item tag.[2]
- Hold the Ultimine key while you break a block. The setting tooltips give the default as the backtick key.[2]
- Change the shape with the keyboard. The default keys are the up and down cursor keys, and by default you have to hold the Ultimine key while you do it. If the client option that requires the Ultimine key for cycling is off, you can cycle shapes at any time.[2]
- Open the shape menu by holding the Ultimine key and sneaking at the same time. A client option controls whether sneaking is required for the menu.[2]
- Use the right tool for the block. When the valid-tool-for-block server setting is on, the equipped tool must be able to harvest dropped items from the block you are ultimining.[2]
Limits to know about
The server settings can cap what you do with each use. There is a maximum number of blocks broken or modified in one operation, and a cooldown between uses measured in ticks (20 ticks is 1 second). You can also be charged hunger exhaustion and experience per block, and both costs can be fractional amounts. If FTB Ranks is installed, its nodes take priority over these values.[2]
There is also a tool protection setting: Ultimining stops when the equipped tool has that much durability or less remaining. Setting it to 0 allows tools to break.[2]
Tweaking the display
If the overlay or hotbar message gets in your way, the client settings can help. You can turn the hotbar message shown when the Ultimining shape changes on or off, and change the overlay scale (multiples of 0.25 are recommended for the best font appearance). You can also change the opacity of the preview lines that are inside blocks.[2]
How does FTB Ultimine work?
5 parts
The sources for FTB Ultimine only cover its settings tooltips, so this section explains what those settings do. It is a set of controls and server-side rules for breaking or modifying many blocks in one operation. Anything the tooltips don't confirm is left out.[2]
Choosing a shape
You work with Ultimining shapes through the Ultimine key, which is the backtick key by default. Shapes are cycled with the up and down cursor keys by default. A client setting decides whether you must hold the Ultimine key to cycle. If it is off, you can cycle shapes at any time.[2]
- Shape menu: hold the Ultimine key and sneak at the same time to show the shape selection menu. A client setting controls whether sneaking is required when you press the Ultimine key.[2]
- Menu context lines: you can set how many shape names appear above and below the selected shape in the menu.[2]
- Hotbar feedback: you can turn on a hotbar message that names the new shape whenever you change it.[2]
- Overlay: there are settings for the horizontal and vertical inset, which is measured toward the center of the screen and ignored when that axis is centered. The overlay scale looks best in multiples of 0.25.[2]
- Preview lines: you can adjust the opacity of preview lines that sit inside blocks.[2]
Costs and limits
The server controls how much Ultimining can do and what it costs you. If FTB Ranks is installed, its matching nodes take priority over these settings when present.[2]
- Max blocks: the maximum number of blocks that can be broken or modified in one operation. FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.max_blocks node.[2]
- Exhaustion per block: the hunger exhaustion each block costs. It can be a fractional amount, and FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.exhaustion_per_block node.[2]
- Experience per block: the experience each block costs. It can also be fractional, and FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.experience_per_block node.[2]
- Cooldown: the time in ticks required between uses of Ultimine, where 20 ticks is 1 second. FTB Ranks can override it with the ftbultimine.ultimine_cooldown node.[2]
Tool rules
Several server settings decide which tools can Ultimine. One requires you to have equipped either a damageable tool or an item in the ftbultimine:tools item tag. Another requires the equipped tool to be valid for the block being Ultimined, meaning it must be able to harvest dropped items.[2]
Tool protection is a separate setting. Ultimining stops once the equipped tool has this much durability or less remaining, and setting it to 0 allows tools to break.[2]
Which blocks get included
The merge-tag settings widen what counts as the same kind of block. In shapeless digging mode, any block in the listed tags that shares a block tag with the block you mined is a valid candidate. Shaped digging modes have their own list that works the same way, and its default of '*' means any block is a valid candidate.[2]
An advanced setting controls what happens when the dig meets unbreakable blocks. It can stop digging there instead of skipping over them.[2]
Extra features
- Single crop harvesting: when enabled, right-clicking a crop without the Ultimine key held harvests it.[2]
- Right-click crystals: this harvests vanilla Amethyst and other modded crystals. It requires the FTB Ez Crystals mod and is NeoForge only.[2]
Unverified The pack's actual values for the settings above (max blocks, cooldown, exhaustion and experience costs, tool protection, and which options are enabled) are not shown in the sources here, because no config files for this mod were available. They are set in the mod's own config files, so check them in game before relying on any default.
How do you progress through FTB Ultimine?
1 part
FTB Ultimine has no tier ladder in this pack's quest book. The only place the book mentions it is the "Vein Mining Unit" quest quest in the "Mekanism: Reactors" chapter, so that is the progression step you can follow.[3]
The quest is in the Meka-Tool group and comes after "Modification Station" quest, which asks for the Modification Station. It asks you for the Module Vein Mining Unit.[3]
The quest describes Vein Mining as a limited FTB Ultimine. When you mine ores or logs, the same blocks connected to them break too. It also points out that the pack has FTB Ultimine as well.[3]
Where the Meka-Tool fits
The Vein Mining Unit is one of several Meka-Tool modules that all come after the Modification Station quest. The "Meka-Tool" quest quest, which asks for the Meka-Tool, comes after "Atomic Dissambler" quest, the Atomic Disassembler quest.[3]
The "Mekanism: Reactors" chapter has 94 quests, and the text of 20 of them is not included in the sources I have. For the full order, check the quest book itself.[3]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use FTB Ultimine?
2 parts
FTB Ultimine has no quest chapter of its own in this pack. The only place the quest book mentions it is a single quest in the Mekanism: Reactors chapter, so there is no FTB Ultimine questline to follow.[3]
Vein Mining Unit
The quest is "Vein Mining Unit" quest, which sits in the Meka-Tool group of that chapter. It asks you to get Module Vein Mining Unit, a Module Unit for the Meka-Tool.[3]
The quest text describes Vein Mining as a limited version of FTB Ultimine: when you mine ores or logs, the connected blocks of the same kind break with them. It then points out that you also have FTB Ultimine, so you can choose which one to use.[3]
What comes before it
The quest book places "Vein Mining Unit" quest directly after "Modification Station" quest. That quest asks for the Modification Station, the machine you use to install Module Units into tools and armor. It needs energy to work.[3]
The Modification Station quest also explains how it works. You put the Module Unit in the left slot and the tool or armor in the right slot, and it installs the unit automatically.[3]
What changed in FTB Ultimine between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships FTB Ultimine 2101.1.15. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier. The pack changelogs only record version bumps, so this page shows how the mod's version moved from release to release.[1]
Version bumps by pack release

- All the Mods 10 7.1: updated from 2101.1.14 to 2101.1.15.[13]
The latest bump in this list came in 7.1, and 8.1 still includes the same version, 2101.1.15. So you won't see a different FTB Ultimine build when you move from 7.1 to 8.1.[1][13]
Unverified The sources don't say what changed inside FTB Ultimine in any of these updates (new features, fixes or balance changes). There are no stored changelogs for the shipped jars, so check the mod's own release notes if you need details.

"From pack files" means the list came from the pack's own files; "from the published release" means ForgeBase read the jars of the release itself.
Items and blocks
We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as ftbultimine, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
