What is FTB Ultimine?

Same as in the All the Mods 10 0.38 guide

FTB Ultimine is part of this pack. This pack ships version 2100.1.0, using the NeoForge build (ftb-ultimine-neoforge-2100.1.0.jar).[1]

It isn't a new addition. It was already in the pack in 0.32 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for several releases.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what FTB Ultimine does in this pack, so I can't confirm its mechanics, keybinds, config options or any pack-specific changes. Check the in-game controls and config screen yourself before relying on any of that.

Unverified Where it fits in progression is unconfirmed. No quests involving this mod were found, and it doesn't appear to be on the ATM Star quest path. I haven't found anything in the sources that says it gates or unlocks other content.

How do you get started with FTB Ultimine?

2 parts

The sources I have for FTB Ultimine are the mod's own text strings, so this section sticks to what those confirm. The mod is used through a key binding, which you will find in your controls under the category "FTB Ultimine".[2]

Step by step

  1. Find the key. Open your controls and look for the FTB Ultimine category. That is the key you press to use Ultimine.[2]
  2. Equip a proper tool. The require_tool server setting says players must have a damageable tool equipped, or an item in the 'ftbultimine:tools' item tag.[2]
  3. Try the shapes menu. Holding the Ultimine key and sneaking at the same time shows the shape selection menu. A client setting controls whether you must also sneak to show the menu when you press the Ultimine key.[2]
  4. Watch your tool's durability. Ultimining stops when the equipped tool has a set amount of damage or less remaining. Setting that value to 0 allows tools to break.[2]

Good to know

  • There is a cooldown setting, measured in ticks, for the time required between successive uses of the Ultimine function.[2]
  • There is an experience_per_block setting, and it can be a fractional amount.[2]
  • The cancel_on_block_break_fail setting is marked as advanced. It decides whether digging stops when unbreakable blocks are found, or skips over them.[2]
  • The shape menu can show a number of shape names above and below the selected shape, and that number is a client setting.[2]

Unverified The values this pack uses for these settings (cooldown, tool protection, experience cost, whether sneaking is required for the menu) are set in the mod's config files, and the sources here do not show them. Check them in game.

How does FTB Ultimine work?

4 parts

FTB Ultimine has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluid handling that the sources describe. What they do cover is the set of rules that decide how Ultimining behaves: client options for the shape menu, and server options for what can be dug, with which tool, and how often.[2]

Using the Ultimine key and the shapes menu

You trigger the mod with its own keybind, listed under the FTB Ultimine key category. A client option decides whether you also have to sneak when pressing the key to show the shapes menu. When the menu is open (hold the Ultimine key and sneak), another client option sets how many shape names appear above and below the selected shape.[2]

Shapes matter because the mod treats shapeless digging and shaped digging modes separately, as you'll see in the block matching rules below.[2]

Server rules for Ultimining

  • Tool requirement: the server can require that you hold a damageable tool, or an item in the 'ftbultimine:tools' item tag.[2]
  • Tool protection: Ultimining stops when the equipped tool has a set amount of damage or less remaining. Setting that value to 0 allows tools to break.[2]
  • Cooldown: there is a setting for the time, in ticks, required between successive uses of Ultimine.[2]
  • Experience: there is a setting for experience per block, and it can be a fractional amount.[2]
  • Unbreakable blocks: by default the dig skips over blocks it can't break. An advanced setting makes it stop digging as soon as it meets one instead.[2]

Which blocks get included

The mod works from the block you originally dug, and tag-based settings widen what counts as a match. In shapeless digging mode, any block in the merge tags that matches the original dug block is a valid candidate. Shaped digging modes have their own equivalent setting, and its default of '*' means any block is a valid candidate.[2]

Crystals

There is also a right-click crystals feature for harvesting vanilla Amethyst and other modded crystals. It requires the FTB Ez Crystals mod to be installed, and the tooltip notes it is Forge only.[2]

Unverified The values this pack uses for the settings above (cooldown, tool protection, experience per block and the merge tags) are set in the mod's own config, and the sources here do not show them.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as ftbultimine, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
