Fargo's Talismans is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 2.3.1. Fargo's Talismans adds a variety of talismans to Minecraft inspired by the Terraria mod Fargo's Soul Mod, each with unique abilities (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Fargo's Talismans?

4 parts

Fargo's Talismans adds equipable talismans that give you useful effects and modifiers. This pack includes version 2.3.1 of the mod. The Air Talisman gives immunity to fall damage from any height, the Copper Talisman works as an item magnet within a 10 block radius, and the Diamond Talisman gives a 20% damage reduction.[1][2][3][4][5]

How the tiers fit together

The Nether dungeon

Abominable Energy is a critical crafting component for Talisman Bases. The only place to get it is Fargo's Dungeon in the Nether, where you loot it from chests.[12]

Talisman Pedestal

The Talisman Pedestal provides the effect of the talisman placed on it to all players within its radius, which is handy for a shared base.[13][14]

Tip: The pedestal radius is 5 blocks by default. An amethyst block under it raises that to 9 blocks, a beacon to 15 blocks, and a chorus flower to 20 blocks. The flower can still grow.[15]

Where it sits in the quest book

The pack has a dedicated quest chapter for the mod, called "fargos_talismans". Its first three quests ask for Abominable Energy ("Abominable Energy" quest), the pedestal ("Talisman Pedestal" quest) and the Normal base ("Normal Talisman Base" quest). All three come after the same earlier quest, which is not part of the chapter listing the sources show.[16]

The Normal base quest is the hub for the chapter. Many individual talisman quests come after it, such as the Architect Talisman ("Architect Talisman" quest) and the Pickaxe Talisman ("Pickaxe Talisman" quest). The base tiers then chain in order: the Advanced base ("Advanced Talisman Base" quest) comes after the Normal base, the Epic base ("Epic Talisman Base" quest) after the Advanced base, and the Legendary base ("Legendary Talisman Base" quest) after the Epic base. The Force quests, like Force of Explorer ("Force of Explorer" quest), come after the quests for the talismans that go into them.[16]

How do you get started with Fargo's Talismans?

2 parts

Fargo's Talismans adds equippable curios that give you various modifiers, and you can toggle every talisman from the Talisman GUI. Almost everything is built on one ingredient: the Talisman Bases. Here's the order I'd tackle things in.[2][6][17]

Your first steps

  1. Head into the Nether and find a Fargo's Dungeon. It's the only place to get Abominable Energy, a critical component for the Talisman Bases, and you loot it from chests there. The dungeon generates underground between Y:25 and Y:50 in any Nether biome. The pack has a quest for this item: "Abominable Energy" quest.[12][16][18]
  2. Craft the Normal Talisman Base. This first base doesn't need netherite, but it does need a totem of undying. It's used in every later upgrade, and the pack's quest for it is "Normal Talisman Base" quest.[16][19]
  3. Use that base for your first talismans. The Copper Talisman works as an item magnet within a 10 block radius, and the Pickaxe Talisman doubles your mining speed.[4][20]
  4. Upgrade to the Advanced Talisman Base, the pack's quest for it is "Advanced Talisman Base" quest. Every base upgrade needs 2 of the previous tier. From there the chain runs Epic, Legendary, Ultimate and finally Godly.[16][21][22][23][24][25]
  5. Build the Talisman Pedestal once you have an Advanced base. It applies the talisman placed on it to all players in its radius.[14][26]

The Iron Talisman gives a 5% damage reduction, and it's used to craft the Diamond Talisman, which gives 20%. The pack also changed the Diamond Talisman recipe, so check it below.[5][26][27]

Setting up a pedestal

By default the pedestal's radius is 5 blocks. Place it on an amethyst block for 9 blocks, a beacon for 15 blocks, or a chorus flower for 20 blocks.[15]

Tip: Talismans feed into Forces, and Forces feed into the Soul of Minecraft. Each Force gives you all the effects of the talismans in its craft, so every talisman you make early on still counts later.[9][10][11][28]

How does Fargo's Talismans work?

5 parts

Fargo's Talismans adds equippable curios that give you various modifiers. Instead of machines, the mod's systems are about upgrading talismans, compressing them into bigger items, and sharing their effects with a pedestal. You can toggle every talisman individually through the Talisman GUI, which you open with the /fargostalismans talisman gui command.[2][17]

A talisman can be switched off in two ways. The item tooltip shows when your client has it toggled off, and it also shows when the talisman is disabled on the server.[29]

Talisman Bases: the upgrade ladder

Bases are the main crafting ingredient for talismans. Each talisman's guide entry tells you which tier of base its recipe needs, so your base tier decides which talismans you can make.[3][6][7]

  1. The Normal Talisman Base is the first tier. It needs a totem of undying but no netherite, and it is a crafting ingredient for every later upgrade.[19]
  2. Advanced Talisman Base needs 2 of the previous tier base and is used to craft the Epic Talisman Base.[21]
  3. Epic Talisman Base needs 2 of the previous tier base.[22]
  4. Legendary Talisman Base needs 2 of the previous tier base.[23]
  5. The Ultimate Talisman Base needs 2 of the previous tier base.[24]
  6. The Godly Talisman Base needs 2 of the previous tier base. It is the final upgrade tier so far.[25]

Bases also rely on Abominable Energy. It's one of the critical crafting components, and the only place to get it is chests in the Fargo's Dungeon in the Nether. The item tooltip says it comes from the Treasure Room.[12][29]

The Talisman Pedestal

The Talisman Pedestal shares a talisman's effect with other players. It applies the effect of the talisman placed on it to all players within its radius.[13][14]

The pedestal's radius depends on the block under it. You can take it from 5 blocks up to 20 blocks:[15]

  • No special block: 5 blocks (the default).[15]
  • Amethyst block underneath: 9 blocks.[15]
  • Beacon underneath: 15 blocks.[15]
  • Chorus flower underneath: 20 blocks. The flower can still grow.[15]

Forces and Souls

Forces are compressed talismans with the same functionality as the crafted talismans. Each force gives you all the effects of the talismans in its craft, so one slot covers a whole group.[9][30]

The base tier a force needs depends on the force. Force of Explorer, Force of Nature and Force of Overworld need an Epic base. Force of Environment, Force of Mystic, Force of Negative, Force of Rejectors and Force of Warrior need a Legendary base. All of them go into the Soul of Minecraft.[11][30][31][32][33][34][35][36]

Recipe id: fargostalismans:forces/force_of_nature

Souls are compressed forces with the same functionality. The Soul of Minecraft gives the effects of every force in its craft, and so of every talisman in those forces. The Soul of Dimensions is the final item for now and needs a Godly base.[10][28][37]

  • Soul of Colossus gives a 5x health boost and negates all negative effects. Its crafting items come from chests in a Fargo's Dungeon.[12][38]
  • Soul of Flight Mastery gives creative flight. Its crafting items are made using elytras.[39]
  • Soul of Supersonic gives 1.75x walking and running speed and 2.5x flying speed. Its crafting items drop from mobs in a Fargo's Dungeon.[40]
Watch out: The Soul of Colossus negates negative effects, so it clashes with the Force of Negative talismans. Those talismans boost your damage while you have a negative effect.[38]

For the Soul of Supersonic items, zombies, skeletons, creepers and spiders in the dungeon have a 5% chance to drop one, and each level of Looting adds 2%. The drops are random, so you may get repeats.[12]

The Fargo's Dungeon

The dungeon is an underground structure in the Nether. It generates in any Nether biome, only between Y:25 and Y:50, with dungeons spaced 12-20 chunks apart. It's randomly generated, so you can sometimes get a small one.[18]

The pack's server config also sets loot_structure.use_custom_structure to true and loot_structure.custom_structure_id to ftb:fargo. The config describes these as the custom structure used for loot drops.[41]

Tuning values in this pack

The server config exposes the numbers behind the talismans. Every talisman value shown for this pack matches the mod default. The file has 111 more options that I can't see, so I'm not covering those.[41]

The Copper Talisman has the most settings. copper_talisman.copper_talisman_area is 10 blocks, copper_talisman.copper_talisman_player_area is 15 blocks, copper_talisman.copper_talisman_distance_to_pickup is 1.5, and copper_talisman.copper_talisman_drop_speed is 1.5. The guide entry for it only mentions a 10 block radius.[4][41]

Tip: A few guide texts disagree with the config. The Full Moon Talisman's guide entry says 10%, but its config value is 0.15, which gives 115% damage. The Iron Golem Talisman's guide entry says 2x max health, but its config comment calls the default of 2 a 300% health result. The Emerald Talisman's guide entry says +2 damage, but its config comment calls the default of 1.0 200% damage. When in doubt, go by the config values in the pack.[41][47][48][49]

How do you progress through Fargo's Talismans?

5 parts

Talisman Bases are the main crafting ingredient for talismans. Forces are compressed talismans, and souls are compressed forces. The quest chapter follows the same ladder, so you can use it as your checklist.[6][9][10]

The base ladder

  1. Normal: "Normal Talisman Base" quest asks for the Normal Talisman Base. Many of the early talisman quests follow it.[16]
  2. Advanced: "Advanced Talisman Base" quest follows the Normal base quest. The Advanced Talisman Base requires 2 of the previous tier base, and it is used to craft the Epic base.[16][21]
  3. Epic: "Epic Talisman Base" quest follows the Advanced base quest and asks for the Epic Talisman Base.[16]
  4. Legendary: "Legendary Talisman Base" quest follows the Epic base quest and asks for the Legendary Talisman Base.[16]
  5. Ultimate: "Ultimate Talisman Base" quest follows the Legendary base quest. The Ultimate Talisman Base requires 2 of the previous tier base, and it is used to craft the Godly base.[16][24]
  6. Godly: "Godly Talisman Base" quest follows the Ultimate base quest and asks for the Godly Talisman Base.[16]

Abominable Energy is one of the critical components for the bases, and the Fargo's Dungeon is the only place to get it. You loot it from chests there. The dungeon is an underground structure in the Nether that generates between Y:25 and Y:50, in any Nether biome. Its quest is "Abominable Energy" quest.[12][16][18]

Talismans by tier

Talismans are equipable items that give useful effects and modifiers. The in-game guide tells you which base each one needs. These are the ones I can confirm:[2]

Some talismans chain into each other. The Iron Talisman is used to craft the Diamond Talisman, and the Diamond Talisman needs an Advanced base. The pack changed the Diamond Talisman recipe from the mod's version, so use this one.[5][26][27]

Watch out: The pack changed these talisman recipes from the mod's version: Copper, Day, Diamond, Earth, Emerald, Gold, Iron Golem and Lapis. Check the recipe blocks on this site instead of trusting the mod's defaults.[26]

Forces

Forces are compressed talismans with all the same functionality as the crafted talismans. Each force quest unlocks after the quests for several of the talismans that go into it, so work through those first.[9][16]

Souls

Souls are compressed forces with all the same functionality. Soul of Minecraft is crafted from all eight forces plus an Ultimate base. Its quest, "Soul of Minecraft" quest, unlocks after every force quest and the Ultimate base quest.[10][16][26]

Three more souls branch off the Ultimate base quest: Soul of Colossus ("Soul of Colossus" quest), Soul of Supersonic ("Soul of Supersonic" quest) and Soul of Flight Mastery ("Soul of Flight Mastery" quest). Each is crafted from two parts plus an Ultimate base.[16][26]

Chests in the Fargo's Dungeon have a chance to contain a crafting item used in the Soul of Colossus. Zombies, Skeletons, Creepers and Spiders inside the dungeon have a 5% chance to drop an item used in the Soul of Supersonic, and each level of Looting adds 2%. The drops are random, so you may get repeats.[12]

The last step is Soul of Dimensions. Its quest, "Soul of Dimensions" quest, is the final one in the chapter. It unlocks after the Godly base quest, the Minecraft soul quest and the other three soul quests.[16]

Talisman Pedestal

The Talisman Pedestal applies the effect of the talisman placed on it to every player within its radius. Its quest is "Talisman Pedestal" quest, and its recipe uses an Advanced base.[14][16][26]

Tip: The pedestal radius is 5 blocks by default. Put an amethyst block under it for 9 blocks, a beacon for 15 blocks, or a chorus flower for 20 blocks.[15]

How does Fargo's Talismans work with other mods?

2 parts

In this pack, the clearest link between Fargo's Talismans and other mods runs through one item: Abominable Energy. Both cross-mod recipes in the pack data are built around it.[26]

Making Abominable Energy with Oritech

Normally, Abominable Energy comes from chests in the Fargo's Dungeon in the Nether. The mod's own guide calls that dungeon the only place to get it. This pack adds a second route: a particle collision recipe from Oritech. So a Nether dungeon run is not your only option.[12][26]

8× Abominable EnergyAdded by the pack

Particle Collision (oritech)

Recipe id: ftb:oritech/particle_collision/abominable_energy

This Oritech particle collision recipe is added by the pack, so it is not the mod's default.

This matters because the mod's guide describes Abominable Energy as a critical crafting component for the Talisman Bases. The pack's Fargo's Talismans quest chapter also has a quest "Abominable Energy" quest whose task is to obtain it.[12][16]

Soul of Flight Mastery

The pack also adds a shapeless recipe, made with KubeJS, for Soul of Flight Mastery. It is built around Abominable Energy and Creative Ascension, an item from the pack's own ftb namespace.[26]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use Fargo's Talismans?

5 parts

Everything for this mod lives in a single quest chapter, "fargos_talismans". None of its quests have titles in the pack files, so I point to them by ID and by the item they ask for. It's a tiered chain: you climb through the talisman bases, collect talismans on each tier, combine them into Force items, and finish with two Soul items.[16]

Getting started

The first three quests unlock after an earlier quest that isn't part of this chapter. They ask for Abominable Energy ("Abominable Energy" quest), the Talisman Pedestal ("Talisman Pedestal" quest) and the Normal Talisman Base ("Normal Talisman Base" quest). The Normal base is the gateway to the rest of the chapter.[16]

The base tiers

The bases are the spine of the chapter, and each one opens the next tier of quests. The order is Normal, then Advanced Talisman Base ("Advanced Talisman Base" quest), then Epic Talisman Base ("Epic Talisman Base" quest), then Legendary Talisman Base ("Legendary Talisman Base" quest), then Ultimate Talisman Base ("Ultimate Talisman Base" quest). The Ultimate base quest in turn unlocks the Godly Talisman Base ("Godly Talisman Base" quest).[16]

Talismans by tier

The Force items

Each Force quest waits on a group of the talisman quests above. Finish the matching talisman quests and you can go for the Force item.[16]

Ultimate-tier gear and the Souls

After the Ultimate base quest, three multi-item quests open up. "Soul of Colossus" quest asks for gear such as the Ankh Shield and Star Veil, plus the Soul of Colossus. "Soul of Supersonic" quest asks for items such as the Aeolus Boots and Flying Carpet, plus the Soul of Supersonic. "Soul of Flight Mastery" quest asks for the elytra-style wings, plus the Soul of Flight Mastery.[16]

"Soul of Minecraft" quest asks for the Soul of Minecraft. It requires all the Force quests above and the Ultimate base quest. The last quest in the chapter, "Soul of Dimensions" quest, asks for the Soul of Dimensions. It requires the Soul of Minecraft quest, the Godly base quest and the three gear quests above.[16]

Which Fargo's Talismans config options matter?

4 parts

Good news first: for the talisman balance settings, this pack doesn't change anything from the mod. Every tunable value in the server config is listed with the same number as the mod default, so what you read in the mod's own descriptions is what you get here. The only entries that don't show a mod default are the loot structure settings, covered below.[41]

Loot structure (the pack-specific part)

The pack turns on a custom structure for loot drops and points it at a structure called ftb:fargo. The config doesn't list a mod default for either option, so I can't tell you whether the pack changed them, only how it sets them.[41]

Dungeon generation

The mod's dungeon structure is switched on, and its placement is set by a spacing of 20 and a separation of 12, with a salt of 20038331. No mod defaults are shown for these, so treat them as the pack's current settings rather than confirmed changes.[73][74]

Values players ask about most

These are all at the mod default, but they're the ones you'll most likely want to know or tweak.[41]

Enable toggles

The server config also has an on/off switch for each talisman, accessory and soul, such as talismans.Zombie_Talisman, accessories.Star_Veil and souls.Soul_Of_Flight_Mastery. In this pack they are all set to true, so nothing is disabled.[41]
