ExtraStorage is a mod in FTB Skies 2 1.24.0, where it is version 5.0.10. Add new blocks to Refined Storage, like more advanced crafters (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is ExtraStorage?

2 parts

ExtraStorage is an addon for Refined Storage that gives your network more room and more automation power. This pack ships version 5.0.10 of it, so everything in this guide is based on that build.[1][2]

It is for you once the basic Refined Storage setup starts to feel cramped, either because your disks fill up or because a single Autocrafter can't keep up with your patterns.[1]

What it adds

Where it fits in the progression

The pack tracks ExtraStorage in its second Refined Storage quest chapter, so you meet it as an upgrade path once you already run a Refined Storage network. The Advanced Importer and Exporter quest is "Advanced Importer & Exporter" quest.[3]

The Autocrafters form a chain, from iron ("Iron Autocrafter" quest) to gold ("Gold Autocrafter" quest), diamond ("Diamond Autocrafter" quest) and finally netherite ("Netherite Autocrafter" quest).[3]

Item storage parts follow the same step-by-step pattern: 256k Storage Part, 1024k Storage Part, 4096k Storage Part and 16384k Storage Part. The fluid parts run in parallel from 16384b Fluid Storage Part through 65536b Fluid Storage Part and 262144b Fluid Storage Part up to 1048576b Fluid Storage Part.[3]

Tip: The quests list the item you need to obtain at each step, so you can follow the chapter in order and upgrade your storage and crafting one tier at a time.[3]

How do you get started with ExtraStorage?

4 parts

ExtraStorage is an addon for Refined Storage. It adds four upgraded Autocrafter tiers, bigger item and fluid storage, and importers and exporters with more filter slots. In this pack its quests sit in the refined_storage_2 chapter and follow three chains: autocrafters, item storage and fluid storage. Here's the order I'd tackle them in.[1][3]

Advanced Importer and Exporter first

Start with the Advanced Importer and the Advanced Exporter. They have 18 filter slots, double the standard. Both are covered by the same quest, "Advanced Importer & Exporter" quest.[1][3]

Your first bigger storage

The item storage chain begins with the 256k Storage Part ("256k Storage Part" quest). A part is what you turn into a disk or a storage block, so this is the first step toward more capacity.[3][4]

The 256k Storage Disk has two in-pack recipes, a shapeless one and a shaped one. Use whichever fits the materials you have.[4]

Autocrafters

Next, the Iron Autocrafter ("Iron Autocrafter" quest). It's the first of the four upgraded Autocrafter tiers, which offer faster crafting and more pattern capacity. The mod's tooltips include a slots-for-patterns line, so you can compare the tiers yourself.[1][3][4][5]

With that, the crafter chain continues: Gold Autocrafter ("Gold Autocrafter" quest), then Diamond Autocrafter ("Diamond Autocrafter" quest), then Netherite Autocrafter ("Netherite Autocrafter" quest). Each tier is crafted from the previous one.[3][4]

How does ExtraStorage work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

ExtraStorage is an addon for Refined Storage, so everything here plugs into the Refined Storage network you already know. It upgrades autocrafters, importers and exporters, and storage disks.[1]

Autocrafter tiers

The mod adds 4 upgraded Autocrafter tiers. Each one offers faster crafting speeds and increased pattern capacity. In order, they are the Iron Autocrafter, Gold Autocrafter, Diamond Autocrafter and Netherite Autocrafter.[1][6]

Each autocrafter shows its pattern capacity in its tooltip. Hold Shift for details and look for the line that lists the slots for patterns. The sources don't give the exact slot counts or speeds, so check that tooltip in game.[7]

The Iron Autocrafter is crafted from a Refined Storage autocrafter, so your existing crafters can be upgraded instead of replaced.[6]

Advanced Importers and Exporters

The Advanced Importer and Advanced Exporter are the bigger versions of the standard Refined Storage blocks, with 18 filter slots, double the standard amount. The exporter's in-game description calls it a much larger exporter.[1][7]

Both are crafted from the matching standard Refined Storage block, so you upgrade the ones you already have.[6]

High-capacity storage

ExtraStorage also adds larger storage for both items and fluids: high-capacity Storage Disks, Storage Blocks and Fluid Storage Blocks.[1]

Every one of these disks has both a shapeless recipe and a shaped recipe. The shaped versions are changed by the pack, and the shapeless ones are the mod's own. The 256k disk shows the pattern, and the other disks follow it with their own matching storage part.[6]

How do you progress through ExtraStorage?

5 parts

ExtraStorage grows out of Refined Storage in this pack, and the quest book follows it in the "refined_storage_2" chapter. There are three tracks: the advanced importer and exporter, the autocrafter tiers, and the item and fluid storage parts. The quests in this mod are untitled, and each one just asks you to obtain an item.[3]

Advanced importer and exporter

"Advanced Importer & Exporter" quest asks for both the Advanced Importer and the Advanced Exporter. Each is an upgraded version of the matching Refined Storage block, built with an Improved Processor.[3][4]

Autocrafter tiers

The autocrafters form a straight chain of quests. "Iron Autocrafter" quest asks for the Iron Autocrafter. "Gold Autocrafter" quest follows with the Gold Autocrafter, then "Diamond Autocrafter" quest with the Diamond Autocrafter, and finally "Netherite Autocrafter" quest with the Netherite Autocrafter.[3]

Every tier is crafted from the autocrafter one step below it. The Iron Autocrafter starts from a Refined Storage autocrafter. From Gold upward, each tier also needs a Neural Processor.[4]

Item storage tiers

The item storage quests are another chain, and each one asks for a storage part. They go 256k Storage Part ("256k Storage Part" quest), 1024k Storage Part ("1024k Storage Part" quest), 4096k Storage Part ("4096k Storage Part" quest), and 16384k Storage Part ("16384k Storage Part" quest).[3]

Each part is crafted from the part one tier below it. The 256k part starts from the Refined Storage 64k part, and every part also needs an Advanced Processor.[4]

Fluid storage tiers

Fluids have their own chain of four part quests. They go 16384b Fluid Storage Part ("16384b Fluid Storage Part" quest), 65536b Fluid Storage Part ("65536b Fluid Storage Part" quest), 262144b Fluid Storage Part ("262144b Fluid Storage Part" quest), and 1048576b Fluid Storage Part ("1048576b Fluid Storage Part" quest).[3]

The pattern is the same as for items. The 16384b fluid part builds on the Refined Storage 4096B fluid part, and each later part builds on the fluid part just below it.[4]

Turning parts into disks and blocks

The quests only ask for the parts. To actually store things, you turn a part into a disk or a storage block. Every tier has two disk recipes, a shaped one and a shapeless one that uses a Storage Housing. Both give the same disk. Here is the 256k example, with its matching 256k Storage Disk.[4]

Storage blocks such as the 256k Storage Block have a normal crafting recipe, and also an upgrade recipe of a custom type. The upgrade recipe takes the part for the new tier together with lower-tier storage blocks.[4]

Tip: Higher block upgrades can consume several lower-tier blocks at once. For example, the 16384k upgrade lists the 1024k, 256k and 4096k blocks, plus the Refined Storage 1k, 4k, 16k and 64k blocks. Check the recipe before you scrap your older blocks.[4]

Unverified The quests that unlock the first quest in each chain (the 256k part, the 16384b fluid part, the advanced importer and exporter, and the Iron Autocrafter) sit outside this mod's quests. Their names and contents are not confirmed here, so check the in-game quest book for the exact prerequisites.

How does ExtraStorage work with other mods?

5 parts

ExtraStorage is an addon for Refined Storage, so nearly everything it does hooks straight into that mod. In this pack's recipe data, the ExtraStorage recipes that involve another mod all pull in Refined Storage items, and the quests for these items sit in the Refined Storage 2 quest chapter.[1][3][4]

Advanced Importers and Exporters

The Advanced Importer and Advanced Exporter are the upgraded versions of the Refined Storage Importer and Exporter, and their recipes are below. They give you 18 filter slots, double the standard amount. One quest asks you to get both of them.[1][3][4]

Storage parts, disks and blocks

ExtraStorage's bigger storage tiers continue the Refined Storage progression. Each part is built on a part from the tier below it. The first item tier, the 256k Storage Part, is built from a Refined Storage part, and the first fluid tier, the 16384b Fluid Storage Part, is built from a Refined Storage fluid part. Both also use the Refined Storage Advanced Processor.[4]

Once you have a part, you can turn it into a disk with a shaped recipe, or with a shapeless recipe that uses the Storage Housing. Storage blocks use the Machine Casing instead.[4]

Upgrade recipes

ExtraStorage also adds its own upgrade recipe type for storage. It combines the matching ExtraStorage part with Refined Storage disks or blocks of the lower tiers, and the result is the larger ExtraStorage disk or block. The fluid versions follow the same pattern with the Refined Storage fluid disks and blocks.[4]

Which FTB Skies 2 quests use ExtraStorage?

4 parts

All the ExtraStorage quests in this pack sit in a single chapter, the Refined Storage 2 chapter. They split into four short chains, and each quest is a simple item task: you hand over or obtain one ExtraStorage item, and the next tier unlocks. The quests have no titles in the pack files, so they're listed by ID below.[3]

Autocrafter chain

This chain walks you up the autocrafter tiers. The first quest unlocks after an earlier quest in the chapter that isn't an ExtraStorage quest, so I can't say what it asks for.[3]

  1. "Iron Autocrafter" quest asks for the Iron Autocrafter.[3]
  2. "Gold Autocrafter" quest asks for the Gold Autocrafter.[3]
  3. "Diamond Autocrafter" quest asks for the Diamond Autocrafter.[3]
  4. "Netherite Autocrafter" quest asks for the Netherite Autocrafter.[3]

Item storage part chain

Here you climb through the item storage parts. The first quest unlocks after a quest outside ExtraStorage.[3]

  1. "256k Storage Part" quest asks for the 256k Storage Part.[3]
  2. "1024k Storage Part" quest asks for the 1024k Storage Part.[3]
  3. "4096k Storage Part" quest asks for the 4096k Storage Part.[3]
  4. "16384k Storage Part" quest asks for the 16384k Storage Part.[3]

Fluid storage part chain

The fluid chain works the same way, and its first quest also unlocks after a quest outside ExtraStorage.[3]

  1. "16384b Fluid Storage Part" quest asks for the 16384b Fluid Storage Part.[3]
  2. "65536b Fluid Storage Part" quest asks for the 65536b Fluid Storage Part.[3]
  3. "262144b Fluid Storage Part" quest asks for the 262144b Fluid Storage Part.[3]
  4. "1048576b Fluid Storage Part" quest asks for the 1048576b Fluid Storage Part.[3]

Importer and exporter

"Advanced Importer & Exporter" quest stands on its own. It has two item tasks, the Advanced Importer and the Advanced Exporter, and it unlocks after another quest in the chapter, "System Input & Output" quest.[3]

Tip: The three chains don't depend on each other, so you can work on whichever one fits your setup first. Inside each chain, though, you have to go in order.[3]

Which ExtraStorage config options matter?

ExtraStorage keeps its settings in the server config file, and everything this pack sets there is about the crafter's energy use and how it handles processing. The list is short, so this is quick.[8]

  • crafters.base_energy is set to 15 in this pack, the same as the mod default of 15, so the pack did not change it. It is the minimum level of energy the crafter consumes, and the allowed range is 1 to 1,000.[8]
  • crafters.include_pattern_energy is set to true in this pack. With it on, the number of patterns in the crafter is included in its power consumption.[8]
  • crafters.uniformly_distribute_processing is set to false in this pack. The config describes the crafter's speed as limited by the number of available slots in the inventory it is connected to, and this option is the one tied to that behavior.[8]
Tip: If your crafters are using more power than you expected, check how many patterns are loaded into them. Pattern energy is turned on in this pack, so the patterns count toward consumption alongside the base amount of 15.[8]

What changed in ExtraStorage between versions?

3 parts

FTB Skies 2 1.22.0 ships ExtraStorage 5.0.10, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.1 or earlier. Here are the notable changes from the mod's own changelogs, from 5.0.2 up to the version you're running.[2]

Autocrafter changes

  • 5.0.2: the autocrafter's name was fixed.[9]
  • 5.0.3: advanced autocrafters were updated to behave like the basic ones.[10]
  • 5.0.4: advanced autocrafters now render the pattern content inside them.[11]
  • 5.0.8: pattern deserialization was improved, alongside a dependency update.[12]

Other notable changes

  • 5.0.2: upgrade mappings were enabled (the changelog entry is called "Enable registerUpgradeMappings").[9]
  • 5.0.6: the mod is no longer marked as beta, and the packing tape tags for fluid storage blocks were fixed.[13]

Bug-fix releases

Versions 5.0.7, 5.0.9 and 5.0.10 only list issue fixes and closed issue numbers, with no description of what changed in-game. The same goes for the numbered fixes in 5.0.2, 5.0.3, 5.0.4, 5.0.6 and 5.0.8. That makes 5.0.10, the version in this pack, a small fix release.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]

Unverified The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, and the mod changelogs provided here don't include a 5.0.5 entry, so anything beyond what's listed above is unconfirmed.
