What is Ars Ocultas?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Ars Ocultas is a small compatibility mod that connects Ars Nouveau and Occultism. If you use both of those mods, this is the bridge between them. This pack ships version 2.1.0, and it has been in the pack since version 2.2 or earlier.[1][2]

What it does

The big idea is that Occultism spirits can now work from Containment Jars. Here is what the mod's project page lists:[1]

  • A spirit in a jar automatically pulls in items from a 7x7 area around it and processes them.[1]
  • You can also right-click items on the jar to process them yourself.[1]
  • A jar holding a spirit has an item capability, so you can pipe items into it. Pipes, hoppers and starbuncles all work.[1]
  • Janitor Spirits have a special behavior: they automatically try to push their contents into an inventory placed on top of the jar.[1]
  • The mod also adds new recipes to make progression easier, plus some quality-of-life changes.[1]

Who it is for

This is for you if you want to automate Occultism spirit work with Ars Nouveau's tools and logistics. Jars can be fed by pipes, hoppers and starbuncles, so they fit into an automated setup.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified The sources I was given do not place this mod on the ATM Star path and do not mention any quests for it. The project page also points to an Ars Ocultas section in the Ars Nouveau guidebook, but I could not confirm that entry in this pack. Check in-game before relying on it.

How do you get started with Ars Ocultas?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 0.6.0-beta guide

Ars Ocultas is a bridge between Ars Nouveau and Occultism. Its main trick is that spirits can be used from Containment Jars, so this mod builds on items from both of those mods.[1]

Step 1: Make the Sacrificial Altar

The one item from this mod that the pack's recipe data shows is the Sacrificial Altar. It is made at an Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus, not on a normal crafting table. The pack has changed this recipe, so don't rely on what you may remember from the mod's defaults. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[3]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_ocultas:altar

Crafted at the enchanting apparatus. This is the pack's changed version of the recipe.

Check the ingredients in the block above before you start gathering. The recipe pulls in items from both Ars Nouveau and Occultism, including a Containment Jar, which is the same kind of jar the mod's spirit features use.[1][3]

Step 2: Get to know jars and spirits

The mod's headline feature is spirits working from Containment Jars. This is what the project page says they do:[1]

  • Spirits automatically pull items around them in a 7x7 area and process them.[1]
  • You can also right-click items on the jar to process them yourself.[1]
  • A jar holding a spirit accepts items from pipes, hoppers and starbuncles.[1]
  • Janitor Spirits try to push their contents into an inventory placed on top of the jar.[1]
Tip: The mod's author points to the Ars Ocultas section of the Worn Notebook (the Ars Nouveau Patchouli guidebook) for a full overview. Open it in-game when you want details beyond this page.[1]

How does Ars Ocultas work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mons 0.6.0-beta guide

Ars Ocultas is an integration mod that connects Ars Nouveau and Occultism. The core idea is that spirits from Occultism can work from inside Containment Jars from Ars Nouveau.[1]

Spirits in Containment Jars

Once a Containment Jar holds a spirit, the spirit automatically pulls items from a 7x7 area around the jar and processes them. You can also right-click items on the jar yourself to have them processed.[1]

Automation

A jar with a spirit inside has an Item Capability attached, so you can pipe items into it. Pipes, hoppers and starbuncles all work for this.[1]

Janitor Spirits do something extra. They automatically try to push their contents into an inventory placed on top of the jar.[1]

Tip: The mod's own overview is in the Ars Nouveau Worn Notebook (the Patchouli guidebook), under the Ars Ocultas section. Check it for the full picture.[1]

Sacrificial Altar

The mod adds the Sacrificial Altar. In this pack it is crafted at the Enchanting Apparatus, and the pack has changed its recipe from the mod's own.[3][4]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_ocultas:altar

This is an Enchanting Apparatus recipe, and the pack changed it.

How do you progress through Ars Ocultas?

1 part

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide

In this pack, Ars Ocultas has one pack recipe that makes one of its items: the Sacrificial Altar. That makes the Sacrificial Altar your clear entry point into the mod, so it's the first thing to aim for.[5]

The Sacrificial Altar

You don't make the Sacrificial Altar at a crafting table. You build it in an Enchanting Apparatus, and this pack has changed its recipe from the mod's default. If you're following an older video or another pack's guide, check the in-pack recipe below before you gather materials.[5]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_ocultas:altar

Crafted in an Enchanting Apparatus. This recipe is changed by the pack.

Tip: The altar recipe needs items from other magic mods, so you'll need some progress outside Ars Ocultas before you can make it. Check the recipe block and plan your gathering early.[5]

Unverified The pack sources don't include any quests for Ars Ocultas or any tier structure beyond the Sacrificial Altar, so a full step-by-step progression path can't be confirmed for this pack.

How does Ars Ocultas work with other mods?

2 parts

Ars Ocultas is a bridge mod. Its project page describes it as adding compatibility between Ars Nouveau and Occultism, so every connection in this pack sits between those two mods.[1]

The Sacrificial Altar

The clearest link in the pack's recipes is the Sacrificial Altar. It is crafted in the Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus, and it takes items from both sides: Ars Nouveau parts such as the Drygmy Token, the Containment Jar and Sourcestone, plus Occultism items such as the Golden Ritual Bowl and Silver Ingot. This is the recipe as it is in this pack:[6]

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_ocultas:altar

Made at an Enchanting Apparatus, so you need Ars Nouveau set up before you can build it.

Spirits in Containment Jars

The mod's project page lists the other half of the integration: Occultism spirits can be used from an Ars Nouveau Containment Jar. These are the features it lists:[1]

  • A spirit in a jar automatically pulls in items in a 7x7 area around it and processes them.[1]
  • You can also right-click items onto the jar to process them.[1]
  • A jar holding a spirit gets an item capability, so you can pipe items into it. The page names pipes, hoppers and starbuncles as working.[1]
  • Janitor spirits try to push their contents into an inventory placed on top of the jar.[1]

The page also mentions new recipes to make progression easier. In the recipes I could check for this pack, the Sacrificial Altar is the only one that connects the mods.[1][6]

Tip: For a full overview of the mod, the project page points you to the Ars Ocultas section of the Worn Notebook, the Ars Nouveau guidebook.[1]

Which Ars Ocultas config options matter?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.9.2 guide

Ars Ocultas keeps its config small. The only option the pack's config file shows is conversionRate, found in config/ars_ocultas/base-common.toml.[7]

  • conversionRate is set to 10 in this pack. The file describes it as the conversion rate of LP into player mana.[7]

If you want to change how LP converts into your mana, this is the value to edit. Treat 10 as the pack's setting and don't assume it matches what you'd get from the mod on its own.[7]

Unverified The sources don't give the mod's default for conversionRate, so it's unconfirmed whether the pack changed this value. They also don't say whether a higher number gives you more or less mana per LP.

What changed in Ars Ocultas between versions?

1 part

FTB Skies 2 1.9.0 ships Ars Ocultas 2.2.0. The mod has been in the pack since FTB Skies 2 1.0.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of Skies.[8]

Ars Ocultas 2.2.0

This is the version you have in 1.9.0. The mod's own changelog lists these changes:[8][9]

  • Added support for Crystallizer spirits for auto item transfer to nearby inventories.[9]
  • Added the Sacrificial Altar, a new block used to sacrifice mobs from Mob jars. It consumes 5,000 Source and must be placed under the golden sacrificial bowl.[9]
  • Bumped the minimum version of Occultism and Neoforge.[9]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Ars Ocultas were available, so whether the pack changed any of its values or recipes is unverified.
