Ars Ocultas is a mod in All the Mons 1.3.0, where it is version 2.6.1. Ars Nouveau Integration for Occultism (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Ars Ocultas?

2 parts

Ars Ocultas is a bridge between Ars Nouveau and Occultism. This pack includes version 2.6.1. The mod lets Occultism spirits work from Ars Nouveau's Containment Jars, which makes spirit automation much easier to set up.[1][2]

What it does

  • Spirits in a Containment Jar automatically pull items around them in a 7x7 area and process them. You can also right-click items on the jar yourself.[1]
  • A jar holding a spirit has an item capability, so you can pipe items in with pipes, hoppers or starbuncles.[1]
  • Janitor Spirits try to push their contents into an inventory on top of the jar.[1]
  • The mod also adds the Sacrificial Altar, which automates sacrifices. It goes under your central bowl and can substitute a sacrifice with Source from a nearby Source Jar, as long as a Containment Jar holding the would-be sacrifice is also nearby.[1][3]

Where it sits in the quest book

Ars Ocultas has no chapter of its own. Its quests live in the Occultism chapter, in the Magic group (chapter 65 of 70 in the book). That chapter has 63 quests, and most of them are about Occultism itself.[3]

The first one you meet is "Ars Ocultas: Spirit Jars" quest, which comes right after "Our First Ritual" quest. It asks for Containment, Ritual Brazier and Containment Jar. The quest explains that spirits like your Foliot Crusher can work in these jars, and that they output into adjacent inventories. If they have nowhere to output, they drop the items into the world.[3]

Later in the chapter, a quest in "Occultism" introduces the altar. It comes after the quest called Ihagan's Enthrallment. The rest of the chapter is in the quest book, so check it there for what follows.[3]

Tip: Ars Ocultas is not on the ATM Star path. The Occultism quest that mentions the ATM Star is "Empty Soul Gem" quest, which is about an Occultism item, not an Ars Ocultas one.[3]

How do you get started with Ars Ocultas?

3 parts

Ars Ocultas is the bridge between Ars Nouveau and Occultism, so your first steps happen in Occultism. In this pack's quest book, the Ars Ocultas quests sit inside the "Occultism" chapter (group "Magic", chapter 65 of 70). Follow that chapter in order and you get to the Ars Ocultas content naturally.[1][3]

The order to follow

  1. Start with "Dreaming of Demons" quest. It asks for Demon's Dream Seeds, and the fruit you grow, Demon's Dream, can give you the Third Eye effect so you can see Otherworld items.[3]
  2. Make the Dictionary Of Spirits in "Little Book o' Demons" quest. It is the guidebook for Occultism, and the quest says several things in the pack need it for crafting.[3]
  3. Do "The Flames of The Otherworld" quest and "Spiritfire Conversions" quest. Setting the fruit on fire makes Spiritfire, which converts Overworld items into Otherworld ones, such as andesite into Otherstone and diamonds into Spirit Attuned Gem.[3]
  4. Read "The Basics of Rituals" quest for the ritual tiers, ritual types and chalks. Then prepare your ritual gear: "Preparing for a Ritual: Chalk" quest, "Preparing for a Ritual: Bowls" quest, "Preparing for a Ritual: Candles" quest and "Books of Binding" quest.[3]
  5. Perform "Our First Ritual" quest to summon a Foliot Crusher Demon. It crushes items for you, which you need for the higher level chalks.[3]

Your first Ars Ocultas step: Spirit Jars

Once your first ritual is done, "Ars Ocultas: Spirit Jars" quest unlocks. Spirits like your Foliot Crusher can work inside Ars Nouveau containment jars. The quest asks for Containment, Ritual Brazier and Containment Jar.[3]

A spirit in a jar automatically pulls items from a 7x7 area around it and processes them. You can also right-click items on the jar yourself, or pipe items in. The quest says spirits output into adjacent inventories, and the bottom side of the jar was the most reliable. If they have nowhere to output, they drop the items into the world.[1][3]

Tip: Janitor Spirits are special: they try to push their contents into an inventory on top of the jar.[1]

The Sacrificial Altar

The Sacrificial Altar comes later, after "Ihagan's Enthrallment" quest in the quest book (see a quest in "Occultism"). It goes under your central bowl and automates sacrifices. A nearby Source Jar can pay for a sacrifice with Source, as long as a Containment Jar holding the would-be sacrifice is also nearby.[3][4]

The pack changed this recipe, and it is crafted at an Ars Nouveau enchanting apparatus. Here is the exact in-pack version:[5]

How does Ars Ocultas work?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Ars Ocultas is a small bridge mod that connects Ars Nouveau and Occultism. Its mechanics are about using Occultism spirits from Ars Nouveau's Containment Jar and then automating that jar.[1]

Spirits in Containment Jars

The main feature is that spirits can be used from a Containment Jar. Once a spirit is inside, the jar does the work for you.[1]

  • The spirit automatically pulls items from around it in a 7x7 area and processes them.[1]
  • You can also right-click items on the jar yourself to process them.[1]

Automation

A Containment Jar holding a spirit has an item capability attached, so you can pipe items straight into it. Pipes, hoppers and Starbuncles all work.[1]

Janitor Spirits get a special behavior. They automatically try to push their contents into an inventory on top of the jar, so a container above the jar can collect the output.[1]

The Sacrificial Altar

The mod adds the Sacrificial Altar. In this pack it is crafted in an Ars Nouveau Enchanting Apparatus, and the pack has changed that recipe. One of its inputs is a Containment Jar (Containment Jar). The recipe below is the exact in-pack version.[6]

Unverified The full overview of the mod's mechanics lives in the Ars Ocultas section of the Worn Notebook, the Ars Nouveau guidebook. The sources here do not show that guidebook's contents, so details beyond the points above are not confirmed.

How do you progress through Ars Ocultas?

4 parts

Ars Ocultas has no chapter of its own in this pack. Its quests sit inside the Occultism chapter (group "Magic", chapter 65 of 70 in the book, 63 quests). The quest book says the mod exists to bridge Occultism and Ars Nouveau. Progression is short and tied to your Occultism ritual tiers.[3]

The ritual tiers you're climbing

The quest book says rituals have basically four tiers, based on how powerful the demon you invoke is: Foliot, Djinni, Afrit and Marid. Both Ars Ocultas quests appear early on that ladder, after your first Foliot summoning.[3]

Step 1: Spirit Jars

"Ars Ocultas: Spirit Jars" quest comes straight after "Our First Ritual" quest, where you summon your first Foliot Crusher. The quest asks for Containment, Ritual Brazier and Containment Jar. Spirits like the Foliot Crusher can work inside these jars.[3]

You can pipe items into a jar for the spirit to work on, and it outputs to adjacent inventories. The quest author found the bottom side of the jar the most reliable place for output. If the spirit has no inventory to output to, it drops the items into the world.[3]

Step 2: Sacrificial Altar

The second quest is a quest in "Occultism", and it unlocks after "Ihagan's Enthrallment" quest. That is the second tier of Possession rituals, a type that needs a live sacrifice. The altar is there to automate that part.[3]

The Sacrificial Altar goes under your central bowl. It lets Source from a nearby Source Jar stand in for the sacrifice, as long as a Containment Jar holding the would-be sacrifice is also nearby.[3]

The pack changed this recipe, and it is made at an Enchanting Apparatus from Ars Nouveau. This is the in-pack version:[5]

Sacrificial AltarChanged by the pack

Enchanting Apparatus (ars_nouveau)

Recipe id: ars_ocultas:altar

Recipe changed by the pack, crafted at the Enchanting Apparatus.

The path to the altar

  1. Finish "Our First Ritual" quest, your first Foliot summoning, then read "Foreword on Pentacles" quest.[3]
  2. Do "Chalking It Up" quest, then "Eziveus' Spectral Compulsion" quest, the first tier of Infusion rituals.[3]
  3. Make "Lime Chalk" quest, which the quest book follows with Possession rituals.[3]
  4. Complete "Ihagan's Enthrallment" quest, then craft the altar for a quest in "Occultism".[3]

How does Ars Ocultas work with other mods?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 5.5 guide

Ars Ocultas is a bridge mod: its whole job is connecting Ars Nouveau with Occultism. If you're running both magic mods in this pack, this is what lets their systems work together instead of side by side.[1]

The Sacrificial Altar

The main in-pack recipe tying the three mods together is the Sacrificial Altar. You craft it in Ars Nouveau's Enchanting Apparatus, and it combines parts from both Ars Nouveau and Occultism, including an Golden Ritual Bowl and a Containment Jar. This pack has changed the recipe, so check the version below rather than an older guide or video.[7]

Unverified The sources don't describe what the Sacrificial Altar does once you've placed it, so test it in-game before you build your setup around it.

Occultism spirits in Containment Jars

The biggest feature is that you can use Occultism spirits from Ars Nouveau's Containment Jar. Instead of letting a spirit wander around, you keep it in a jar and it keeps working.[1]

  • A spirit in a jar automatically pulls in items around it in a 7x7 area and processes them.[1]
  • You can also right-click an item on the jar to have the spirit process it by hand.[1]
  • Jars holding a spirit accept items through automation, so you can feed them with pipes, hoppers or Ars Nouveau's starbuncles.[1]
  • Janitor spirits get a special trick: they automatically try to push what they're carrying into an inventory placed on top of the jar.[1]
Tip: Because spirit jars accept piped items and Janitor spirits can empty into a chest above them, you can build a compact, fully automated processing setup without letting spirits roam your base.[1]

Unverified The mod's project page says the Ars Ocultas section of Ars Nouveau's Worn Notebook has a full overview, but that guide section hasn't been confirmed for this pack.

Which All the Mons quests use Ars Ocultas?

3 parts

Ars Ocultas has no chapter of its own in the pack's quest book. Its two quests sit inside the Occultism chapter, in the Magic group (chapter 65 of 70 in the book, 63 quests in total). You'll reach both while working through the Occultism ritual progression.[3]

The two Ars Ocultas quests

  1. "Ars Ocultas: Spirit Jars" quest comes straight after "Our First Ritual" quest, your first Summoning Ritual for a Foliot Crusher. It asks for Containment, Ritual Brazier and Containment Jar. The quest explains that an Ars Nouveau item shows up here because Ars Ocultas bridges the two mods.[3]
  2. a quest in "Occultism" comes later, after "Ihagan's Enthrallment" quest, where the chapter introduces Possession Rituals. It asks for a single item, Sacrificial Altar. In the book this quest has no title of its own, so it is named after that item.[3]

Spirit Jars

The point of this quest is that spirits, such as your Foliot Crusher, can work inside these containment jars. You can pipe items into a jar for the spirit to process. It then outputs to adjacent inventories, and the quest author found the bottom side of the jar the most reliable place for that. If the spirit can't output to an inventory, it drops the items into the world.[3]

Sacrificial Altar

This quest is about automating sacrifices. The Sacrificial Altar goes under your central bowl. It lets a sacrifice be substituted with Source from a nearby Source Jar, as long as a Containment Jar holding the would-be sacrifice is also nearby.[3]

The quest it follows is one of the chapter's Possession Rituals, which normally need a live sacrifice. That makes this a handy shortcut to remember when you get there.[3]

What changed in Ars Ocultas between versions?

3 parts

All the Mons 1.3.0 ships Ars Ocultas 2.6.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 0.3.0-beta or earlier. I don't have any pack changelog entries for this mod, so everything below comes from the mod's own changelogs, newest first.[2]

Recent fixes (2.4.1 to 2.6.1)

  • 2.6.1 (the version in this pack): fixed a crash related to the Sacrificial Altar.[2][8]
  • 2.5.0: Fragile Soul gems now break after use, as intended. This release also fixed a runtime crash caused by Occultism updates.[9]
  • 2.4.1: added a null check for levels in tooltips.[10]

Jar features (2.4.0)

This release added tooltips to containment jars that hold Occultism spirits. They show on the containment jar item and also in the world when you look at the jar.[11]

It also added support for interactions with Occultism spirit gems, so you can insert and remove mobs directly from the containment jar.[11]

The Sacrificial Altar arrives (2.2.0 and 2.2.1)

The Sacrificial Altar was added in 2.2.0. It's a new block for sacrificing mobs from Mob jars. It consumes 5,000 Source and must be placed under the golden sacrificial bowl.[12]

The same release added support for Crystallizer spirits, which handle automatic item transfer to nearby inventories. It also bumped the minimum versions of Occultism and Neoforge.[12]

In 2.2.1 the altar's loot table was fixed, so it now drops as an item when broken.[13]
