What is Pylons?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide
Pylons is described by its authors as "just another magic block mod". The project page currently lists a small set of blocks it adds, and this pack includes version 6.0.1 of the mod.[1][2]
The pylons listed on the project page
- Expulsion Pylon: made for servers, it expels other players from the chunk it's placed in. You can whitelist players with a Player Filter, and OPs are always whitelisted.[1]
- Infusion Pylon: lets you apply effects to yourself from any distance (this may require chunkloading), using activated Potion Filters.[1]
- Harvester Pylon: the project page currently lists it as harvesting crops in a configurable radius from 3x3 to 9x9 around the pylon and outputting to an inventory above it. You place it inside the water block of the farm.[1]
- Interdiction Pylon: the project page currently lists it as preventing all spawns of specified mobs within a selectable chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. Right click a mob with a Mob Filter, then add that filter to the pylon to block that mob.[1]
Good to know
The project page currently describes how to activate a Potion Filter for the Infusion Pylon: apply an effect to yourself (from a potion, for example) and right-click the filter. This extracts all remaining duration from you onto the filter. The mod's default minimum extractable duration is 60 seconds, and a full activation needs a total of 1 hour of duration.[1]
The project page currently says the Harvester Pylon needs a hoe in its inventory by default and uses 1 durability per crop harvested. The mod has a config option to turn that off, and unbreakable hoes can be used. These details come from the mod's own description, so check the pack's config if you want the exact values in use.[1]
How do you get started with Pylons?
5 parts
Same as in the FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 guide
Pylons is a small magic block mod where each pylon does one job over a range of chunks or blocks. Several of them are set up with filter items. Here is the order I would build things in this pack.[1][3]
First: Harvester Pylon for an easy farm
The Harvester Pylon harvests crops in a range from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around itself and drops them into an inventory above it. Place it inside the water block of your farm, or level with the crops.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| Quartz Slab | Quartz Slab | Quartz Slab |
| Iron Bars | Hay Block | Iron Bars |
| Polished Blackstone | Polished Blackstone | Polished Blackstone |
Recipe id: pylons:harvester_pylon
In this pack the pylon needs a hoe inside it (harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true), and each harvest uses 1 durability. Power is not required (harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false). The delay between harvest attempts is 60 ticks (harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay). Piping tools in to automate it is off (harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false).[4]
Next: Protection Pylon and its filters
The Protection Pylon stops you, the owner, from accidentally breaking blocks or killing mobs inside a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. You choose what is protected by adding a Mob Filter or a Block Filter.[3]

To set a filter, right-click a mob with the Mob Filter, or right-click a block with the Block Filter. Then insert the filter into the pylon.[1][3]
Then: Interdiction Pylon to stop spawns
The Interdiction Pylon prevents natural and forced spawns of the mobs you name, within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. Use Mob Filters to say which mobs to block.[3]

The Lifeless Filter works differently. It blocks all mobs, but only natural spawns, over a range of 25x25 chunks, and it disables other mob filters.[3]

Multiplayer: Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from a chunk range of 1x1 to 5x5. Whitelist friends with a Player Filter. OPs are whitelisted automatically, and so are team members, because general.teamSupportEnabled is true in this pack.[3][4]

In this pack it only works in the Overworld (expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions), the largest radius is 2, which is a 5x5 chunk area (expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius), and explosions cannot destroy it (expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false).[4]
Potion Filters
The Potion Filter is used with the Infusion Pylon, which applies effects to you from any distance. You activate a filter by getting a potion effect and then right-clicking with the filter. In this pack the shortest effect you can extract is 60 seconds (infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration), and a filter needs 3,600 seconds (1 hour) in total before it can be used (infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration).[3][4]

How does Pylons work?
7 parts
Pylons is a small mod, and every pylon works the same way: you place the block, open its screen, and it affects an area around it. Each pylon screen has a working status toggle, and every pylon can also be switched on and off with redstone. The screen shows who owns the pylon, and if the owner can't be found the pylon disables itself.[3]
Filters
Filters are the items you load into a pylon to tell it who or what to affect. You fill most of them by right-clicking something with the filter in hand.[3]
- Player Filter: right-click a player to select them. It is used for the Expulsion Pylon whitelist.[3]
- Mob Filter: right-click a mob to select it. The Interdiction Pylon uses it to pick which mobs to block, and the Protection Pylon uses it to pick which mobs to protect.[3]
- Block Filter: right-click a block to select it. The Protection Pylon uses it to pick which blocks to protect.[3]
- Potion Filter: right-click with an active potion effect to store that effect on it. The Infusion Pylon uses it.[3]
- Lifeless Filter: a special filter for the Interdiction Pylon, covered below.[3]
Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from a chunk range you choose, from 1x1 up to 5x5 chunks. Put players on its whitelist with a Player Filter. OPs are whitelisted automatically, and so are team members when team support is enabled. Anyone kicked out gets a chat message saying they were expelled from your chunk.[3]
In this pack team support is on (general.teamSupportEnabled is true), so your team is whitelisted without any filters. The pack also sets these limits on the Expulsion Pylon:[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions only lists the Overworld, so the pylon does nothing in other dimensions. Its screen says "This dimension is disabled." there.[3][5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius is 2, the mod default. The center chunk isn't counted, so a radius of 2 gives a 5x5 chunk area.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false, so explosions can't destroy it.[5]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionWorldSpawnRadius is 1, the mod default. It sets a zone around world spawn where the pylon won't operate. The setting only matters if it is larger than the world spawn radius, which is set by the spawnRadius gamerule. Inside that zone the screen says "Too close to world spawn."[3][5]
Harvester Pylon
The Harvester Pylon harvests crops in a 3x3 to 9x9 block area around itself and outputs them to an inventory above it. Place it inside the water block of your farm, or level with the crops. If there is no inventory above, the screen tells you to place one, and if the inventory is full it says so.[1][3]
Here is how the pack has it set up. harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true, so the pylon needs a hoe inside it and uses 1 durability per harvest action. Unbreakable hoes avoid that cost, and Unbreaking and other durability enchants are supported. Mystical Agriculture's Supremium Hoe is the example the mod page gives for an unbreakable hoe (see Mystical Agriculture).[1][3][5]
harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay is 60 ticks between harvest attempts, the mod default.[5]
Harvester power and automation
The pylon can run on power instead of a tool, but the pack leaves that off: harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false. If someone enabled it, the tool requirement would be dropped and each harvested block would cost RF. harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerCost is 5 RF per block (the mod default) and harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerBuffer is 1,000 (also the mod default). The config notes say the buffer should be bigger than the cost per block times 80. The screen shows stored RF, and warns "Not enough power." when it runs dry.[3][5]
Automation is limited. harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false in the pack, so you can't pipe tools into the harvester. The config notes say unbreakable tools are required for full automation by default. The output side is simple: the pylon dumps crops into the inventory above it.[3][5]
Infusion Pylon
The Infusion Pylon applies potion effects to you from any distance, using activated Potion Filter items. To activate a filter, get the effect on yourself (from a potion, for example) and right-click with the filter in hand. That extracts the effect. The filter only works once it holds enough duration, and its tooltip shows the progress as seconds stored out of the total needed.[1][3]
- Minimum extractable duration: infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration is 60 seconds, the mod default.[5]
- Duration needed to activate a filter: infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration is 3,600 seconds, or 1 hour. That equals 7.5 vanilla extended potions, and it is the mod default.[1][5]
- Two filters holding the same effect can be combined. Hold one in each hand and right-click, and the off hand filter's duration is added to the main hand one.[1][3]
- Applied duration: infusion_pylon.infusionAppliedDuration is 20 seconds, the mod default. This is the maximum duration applied to you, and it is refreshed up to that amount every 60 ticks.[5]
- Maximum potency: infusion_pylon.infusionMaximumPotency is 3, the mod default. It counts from 0, so a Resistance V potion would be potency 4.[5]
Which effects are allowed is also controlled by the pack. infusion_pylon.infusionAllowedEffects only allows effects in the minecraft namespace. infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects bans minecraft:absorption and tombstone:ghostly_shape, and the denied list overrides the allowed list. Effects can also be banned through the pylons:infusion_banned tag. A filter holding a blocked effect shows a tooltip saying it is disabled by tag or in the config.[3][5]
The pylon keeps working while you are away because infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads is true in the pack. It chunkloads itself while the owner is online, and this is limited to one pylon per player.[3][5]
Interdiction Pylon
The Interdiction Pylon prevents natural and forced spawns of specific mobs within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. Right-click a mob with a Mob Filter and put the filter in the pylon to block that mob.[1][3]
The Lifeless Filter works differently. It blocks all mobs but only natural spawns, and it raises the range to 25x25 chunks. It also disables any other mob filters in the pylon.[3]
Protection Pylon
The Protection Pylon stops you, the pylon owner, from accidentally breaking blocks or killing mobs inside a 1x1 to 5x5 chunk range. Add Mob Filter and Block Filter items to choose which mobs and blocks are protected. It is handy for protecting animals or crops you don't want to hit by mistake.[3]
How do you progress through Pylons?
2 parts
Here's the honest picture for Pylons in this pack: the sources I have don't define a tier ladder for the mod, so I won't invent one. What they do confirm is which Pylons items you can craft and what kind of recipe each one uses. Every recipe below is rendered straight from the pack, so you see the exact in-pack version.[6]
The pylons
These pylons have recipes in the pack: the Protection Pylon, the Expulsion Pylon, the Harvester Pylon and the Interdiction Pylon. The sources don't rank them, so treat them as separate options rather than steps in a chain.[6]

Good news if you move your pylons around: the loot tables show that the Protection, Expulsion, Harvester and Interdiction Pylons each drop themselves when broken.[7][8][9][10]
The filters
The pack also has recipes for these filters: Block Filter, Lifeless Filter, Mob Filter, Player Filter and Potion Filter. The Mob, Player and Potion Filters also have an extra shapeless recipe that produces the same item.[6]

Which Pylons config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
All the Pylons settings live in one file, config/pylons-server.toml. Every numeric option in it that lists a mod default is set to that default, so this pack didn't change any of those numbers. What follows is how the pack sets the options you're most likely to care about.[11]
Harvester Pylon
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true, so the harvester needs a hoe and uses 1 durability per harvest action.[1][11]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false, so you can't pipe tools in to automate it. The option's description says that by default, unbreakable tools are required for full automation.[11]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay is 60 ticks between harvest attempts. That matches the mod default, and the allowed range is 10 to 120.[11]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false. If you turned it on, it would drop the tool requirement and charge RF per block instead.[11]
- If power were enabled, harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerCost is 5 RF per block and harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerBuffer is 1,000. Both are mod defaults, and the buffer should be greater than the cost per block times 80.[11]
Infusion Pylon
- infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration is 3,600 seconds, so a Potion Filter needs 1 hour of total duration before you can use it. That's the mod default, and it equals 7.5 vanilla extended potions.[1][11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration is 60 seconds, the shortest effect duration a Potion Filter can use. It's the mod default, and it exists to avoid odd interactions with other mods' persistent low-duration effects.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMaximumPotency is 3. The value is 0-indexed, so Resistance V would be potency 4 and 3 is the highest you can apply here.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAppliedDuration is 20 seconds. The duration is refreshed up to that amount every 60 ticks.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads is true, so the pylon chunkloads itself. This is limited to one pylon per player, and only while that player is online.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAllowedEffects is set to the whole minecraft namespace. infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects blocks minecraft:absorption and tombstone:ghostly_shape, and the denied list overrides the allowed one.[11]
Expulsion Pylon
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions only lists minecraft:overworld, so the Expulsion Pylon only operates in the Overworld.[11]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius is 2, the mod default and the top of its range. It doesn't count the center chunk, so a radius of 2 means a 5x5 chunk area.[11]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false, so explosions can't destroy the pylon.[11]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionWorldSpawnRadius is 1, the mod default. It only takes effect if it's larger than the world's spawn radius.[11]
Teams
general.teamSupportEnabled is true, so team support is active when a compatible mod such as FTB Teams or Argonauts is installed.[11]
What changed in Pylons between versions?
Pylons is in FTB Evolution 2 1.2.1 as version 6.0.1. It has been in the pack since FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier, so it is not a new addition.[12]
The only change the mod's own changelog lists for 6.0.1 is an update for compatibility with NeoForge 26.1.2.22-beta. The sources here show no gameplay changes in that version.[13]
The sources here include no pack changelog entries for Pylons, so I can't tell you how it changed between earlier pack releases.[12]
