What is Pylons?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.10.0-beta guide
Pylons is described by its authors as "just another magic block mod". The project page currently lists a small set of blocks it adds, and this pack includes version 6.0.1 of the mod.[1][2]
The pylons listed on the project page
- Expulsion Pylon: made for servers, it expels other players from the chunk it's placed in. You can whitelist players with a Player Filter, and OPs are always whitelisted.[1]
- Infusion Pylon: lets you apply effects to yourself from any distance (this may require chunkloading), using activated Potion Filters.[1]
- Harvester Pylon: the project page currently lists it as harvesting crops in a configurable radius from 3x3 to 9x9 around the pylon and outputting to an inventory above it. You place it inside the water block of the farm.[1]
- Interdiction Pylon: the project page currently lists it as preventing all spawns of specified mobs within a selectable chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. Right click a mob with a Mob Filter, then add that filter to the pylon to block that mob.[1]
Good to know
The project page currently describes how to activate a Potion Filter for the Infusion Pylon: apply an effect to yourself (from a potion, for example) and right-click the filter. This extracts all remaining duration from you onto the filter. The mod's default minimum extractable duration is 60 seconds, and a full activation needs a total of 1 hour of duration.[1]
The project page currently says the Harvester Pylon needs a hoe in its inventory by default and uses 1 durability per crop harvested. The mod has a config option to turn that off, and unbreakable hoes can be used. These details come from the mod's own description, so check the pack's config if you want the exact values in use.[1]
How do you get started with Pylons?
5 parts
Pylons is a small magic block mod where each pylon does one job over a range of chunks or blocks. Several of them are set up with filter items. Here is the order I would build things in this pack.[1][3]
First: Harvester Pylon for an easy farm
The Harvester Pylon harvests crops in a range from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around itself and drops them into an inventory above it. Place it inside the water block of your farm, or level with the crops.[3]
Crafting Shaped
| Quartz Slab | Quartz Slab | Quartz Slab |
| Iron Bars | Hay Block | Iron Bars |
| Polished Blackstone | Polished Blackstone | Polished Blackstone |
Recipe id: pylons:harvester_pylon
In this pack the pylon needs a hoe inside it (harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true), and each harvest uses 1 durability. Power is not required (harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false). The delay between harvest attempts is 60 ticks (harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay). Piping tools in to automate it is off (harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false).[4]
Next: Protection Pylon and its filters
The Protection Pylon stops you, the owner, from accidentally breaking blocks or killing mobs inside a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. You choose what is protected by adding a Mob Filter or a Block Filter.[3]

To set a filter, right-click a mob with the Mob Filter, or right-click a block with the Block Filter. Then insert the filter into the pylon.[1][3]
Then: Interdiction Pylon to stop spawns
The Interdiction Pylon prevents natural and forced spawns of the mobs you name, within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. Use Mob Filters to say which mobs to block.[3]

The Lifeless Filter works differently. It blocks all mobs, but only natural spawns, over a range of 25x25 chunks, and it disables other mob filters.[3]

Multiplayer: Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from a chunk range of 1x1 to 5x5. Whitelist friends with a Player Filter. OPs are whitelisted automatically, and so are team members, because general.teamSupportEnabled is true in this pack.[3][4]

In this pack it only works in the Overworld (expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions), the largest radius is 2, which is a 5x5 chunk area (expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius), and explosions cannot destroy it (expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false).[4]
Potion Filters
The Potion Filter is used with the Infusion Pylon, which applies effects to you from any distance. You activate a filter by getting a potion effect and then right-clicking with the filter. In this pack the shortest effect you can extract is 60 seconds (infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration), and a filter needs 3,600 seconds (1 hour) in total before it can be used (infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration).[3][4]

How does Pylons work?
6 parts
Pylons is a small, magic-flavoured mod. Every pylon is a block that works over a range around itself, and each one remembers its owner. If the owner can't be found, the pylon shows "Owner not found. Pylon disabled." and stops. All five pylons can also be switched on and off automatically with redstone, and each GUI has a working status toggle.[3]
Most of the setup happens through filter items that you right-click on things (a player, a mob, a block or an active potion effect) and then insert into the pylon. There are no multiblocks here, and the sources show no fluid handling. The only power use is an optional one on the Harvester Pylon.[3]
Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from a chunk range you choose, from 1x1 to 5x5 chunks. Whitelist players by adding a Player Filter. Right-click a player with the filter to select them. OPs are whitelisted automatically, and so are team members when team support is enabled.[3]
In this pack general.teamSupportEnabled is true, so team support works if a compatible mod (FTB Teams or Argonauts) is installed. expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius is 2, the mod default. The centre chunk isn't counted, so a radius of 2 gives the full 5x5 area.[4]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions is set to the overworld only. Elsewhere the pylon shows "This dimension is disabled."[3][4]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionWorldSpawnRadius is 1. It keeps the pylon from operating around world spawn, and it only takes effect if it is larger than the world spawn radius gamerule. Near spawn the pylon shows "Too close to world spawn."[3][4]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false, so explosions can't destroy it.[4]
Harvester Pylon
The Harvester Pylon harvests crops in a square from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around itself and outputs them to an inventory placed above it. Put the pylon inside the water block of your farm, or level with the crops. Without an inventory above, the GUI tells you to place one, and it warns you when that inventory is full.[3]
In this pack harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true, so the pylon needs a hoe inside it and uses 1 durability per harvest. Unbreakable hoes are not damaged, and Unbreaking and other durability enchants are supported. Without a hoe, the GUI shows "Hoe required for operation." The Silent Gear hoe is on the pylon's banned item tag.[3][4][5]
harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay is 60 ticks between harvest attempts. That is the mod default.[4]
Power and automation
The pylon can run on power instead of durability. In this pack harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false, so that mode is off. If you turn it on, the tool requirement is disabled and each harvested block costs RF. The cost option harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerCost is 5 here, and the buffer option harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerBuffer is 1,000. The config note says the buffer should be larger than the cost per block times 80. With too little power the GUI shows "Not enough power."[3][4]
harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false in this pack, so you can't pipe tools into the harvester. The config note says that when it is enabled, unbreakable tools are required for full automation.[4]
Interdiction Pylon
The Interdiction Pylon prevents natural and forced spawns of specific mobs within a chunk range of 1x1 to 5x5. Right-click a mob with a Mob Filter to select it, then add the filter to the pylon.[1][3]
The Lifeless Filter works differently. It blocks all mobs but only natural spawns, and it raises the range to 25x25 chunks. It also disables the other mob filters.[3]
Protection Pylon
The Protection Pylon stops its owner from breaking blocks or killing mobs inside a chunk range of 1x1 to 5x5. It is there to stop accidents. You pick what to protect with Mob Filter and Block Filter items. Right-click a mob or a block with the matching filter to select it.[3]
Infusion Pylon
The Infusion Pylon applies potion effects to you from any distance, using activated Potion Filter items. To activate a filter, get the effect on yourself (from a potion, for example), then right-click with the filter in hand. This takes all the remaining duration from you and stores it on the filter. Right-click again with the same effect active to add more progress.[1][3]
A filter must collect 3,600 seconds (1 hour) before it works, which equals 7.5 vanilla extended potions. The smallest duration you can extract at once is 60 seconds. Both are the mod defaults, set by infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration and infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration. Two filters with the same effect can be combined by holding one in each hand and right-clicking. The off-hand filter's duration is added to the main-hand one.[1][3][4]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAppliedDuration is 20 seconds. The applied effect is refreshed up to that duration every 60 ticks.[4]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMaximumPotency is 3. It is 0-indexed, so Resistance V (potency 4) is above the limit.[4]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAllowedEffects allows only effects from the minecraft namespace. infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects bans minecraft:absorption and tombstone:ghostly_shape. The denied list overrides the allowed list, and effects can also be banned through the pylons:infusion_banned tag.[4]
- infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads is true. The pylon chunkloads itself while its owner is online, limited to one pylon per player.[4]
How do you progress through Pylons?
3 parts
The sources for Pylons in this pack show recipes and block drops, but no tier ladder, so there is no progression order to lay out here. What they do confirm is what you can craft, and each item has its own recipe in the pack.[6]
The pylons
The pack has a crafting recipe for each of these pylons: the Protection Pylon, the Expulsion Pylon, the Interdiction Pylon and the Harvester Pylon. Every one of them is a shaped crafting recipe that comes from the mod itself.[6]

When you break any of these pylons, the block's loot table gives you the pylon itself back, so you can pick it up and move it.[7][8][9][10]
Filters
There are also filter items with their own shaped recipes: the Block Filter, Lifeless Filter, Mob Filter, Player Filter and Potion Filter.[6]

The mob, player and potion filters each have a second, shapeless recipe that also produces that filter. Their recipe ids start with "clear".[6]
Harvester Pylon note
The mod ships an item tag called harvester_banned. It lists Silent Gear's hoe as an optional entry, and that is the only item on the tag that the sources confirm.[5]
Which Pylons config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 11 0.8.0-beta guide
All the Pylons settings live in one file, config/pylons-server.toml. Every numeric option in it that lists a mod default is set to that default, so this pack didn't change any of those numbers. What follows is how the pack sets the options you're most likely to care about.[11]
Harvester Pylon
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true, so the harvester needs a hoe and uses 1 durability per harvest action.[1][11]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is false, so you can't pipe tools in to automate it. The option's description says that by default, unbreakable tools are required for full automation.[11]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay is 60 ticks between harvest attempts. That matches the mod default, and the allowed range is 10 to 120.[11]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false. If you turned it on, it would drop the tool requirement and charge RF per block instead.[11]
- If power were enabled, harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerCost is 5 RF per block and harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerBuffer is 1,000. Both are mod defaults, and the buffer should be greater than the cost per block times 80.[11]
Infusion Pylon
- infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration is 3,600 seconds, so a Potion Filter needs 1 hour of total duration before you can use it. That's the mod default, and it equals 7.5 vanilla extended potions.[1][11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration is 60 seconds, the shortest effect duration a Potion Filter can use. It's the mod default, and it exists to avoid odd interactions with other mods' persistent low-duration effects.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMaximumPotency is 3. The value is 0-indexed, so Resistance V would be potency 4 and 3 is the highest you can apply here.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAppliedDuration is 20 seconds. The duration is refreshed up to that amount every 60 ticks.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads is true, so the pylon chunkloads itself. This is limited to one pylon per player, and only while that player is online.[11]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAllowedEffects is set to the whole minecraft namespace. infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects blocks minecraft:absorption and tombstone:ghostly_shape, and the denied list overrides the allowed one.[11]
Expulsion Pylon
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions only lists minecraft:overworld, so the Expulsion Pylon only operates in the Overworld.[11]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius is 2, the mod default and the top of its range. It doesn't count the center chunk, so a radius of 2 means a 5x5 chunk area.[11]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false, so explosions can't destroy the pylon.[11]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionWorldSpawnRadius is 1, the mod default. It only takes effect if it's larger than the world's spawn radius.[11]
Teams
general.teamSupportEnabled is true, so team support is active when a compatible mod such as FTB Teams or Argonauts is installed.[11]
What changed in Pylons between versions?
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Pylons 6.0.1, and the pack has included the mod since 1.0.2 or earlier.[12]
The one change the mod's own changelog lists for 6.0.1 is an update for compatibility with NeoForge 26.1.2.22-beta. Nothing else is recorded for that release.[13]
Unverified The sources here include no pack changelog entries for Pylons, so any changes to the mod between pack releases are not shown. Check the pack's own changelog for those details.
