Pantry for Blockheads is a mod in FTB Evolution 2 1.4.0, where it is version 26.1.2.8. We have food mod at home. The missing counterpart to Cooking for Blockheads. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is Pantry for Blockheads?

3 parts

Pantry for Blockheads is a food mod. It is described as the missing counterpart to Cooking for Blockheads, and it adds 14 new crops and 48 new meals, balanced for variety without bloat.[1]

What it adds

  • 14 new crops, from tomatoes to eggplants.[1]
  • 2 new fruit trees and berry bushes that generate in the world.[1]
  • Meals, some of which grant a "Well Fed" status effect for extra health. There are also Fortune Cookies if you want to see where your luck lies today.[1]
  • An Artisan Press block for processed food like Cheese and Tofu.[1]
  • Utensils you can place inside your Cooking for Blockheads kitchen.[1]

Getting started with the crops

The seeds for the crops come from chest loot, trading, or a Farming for Blockheads market. The mod also needs Balm installed alongside it. It integrates with Farming for Blockheads and Little Joys.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Pantry for Blockheads version 26.1.2.8 in the NeoForge build. It has been part of the pack since version 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

How do you get started with Pantry for Blockheads?

4 parts

Pantry for Blockheads is the food mod that pairs with Cooking for Blockheads. It adds 14 new crops and 48 new meals, plus a block called the Artisan Press for processed food. Here is the order I'd go in.[1]

Step one: find some seeds

Everything starts with seeds. They come from chest loot, from trading, or from a Farming for Blockheads market. In this pack, vanillaModifications.chestLootHoldsBlockheadSeeds is on, so the mod's seeds can turn up in chest loot. The mod's bushes and trees also generate in the world, since vanillaModifications.generateBlockheadBushes and vanillaModifications.generateBlockheadTrees are both on.[1][3]

If you build a market, it has recipes for the mod's seeds. Here is the one for Corn Seeds.[4]

Step two: craft the Artisan Press

Next, make the Artisan Press. It is the mod's own block for processed food like Cheese and Tofu.[1]

The press also has recipes that make seeds such as Broccoli Seeds and give you Mashed Produce too. Here is the Cheese recipe.[4]

      Next: kitchen tools

The mod also adds utensils to place inside your Cooking for Blockheads kitchen: the Frying Pan, the Chef's Knife and the Baking Sheet. Their recipes are shown below.[1][4]

      Then: start cooking and automating

The pack adds a toaster recipe for Popcorn in Cooking for Blockheads. The mod also has its own smelting recipe for it.[4]

Once you have crops, the pack adds machine recipes that grow them. Energized Power has plant growth chamber recipes that take water and give, for example, Corn and Corn Seeds. FTB Industrial Contraptions has hydroponic growth recipes, and LTX Industries has garden simulating recipes.[4]

Tip: Sweet Berry Bushes won't slow or damage you in this pack, because vanillaModifications.removeSweetBerryBushDamage is on.[3]

How does Pantry for Blockheads work?

        6 parts

Pantry for Blockheads is a farming and food mod, so it has no big power-hungry multiblocks. Its core mechanics are one processing block, a set of crops and world-generated plants, and some food effects. The pack then adds recipes so its crops can be grown by machines from other mods. Here is how all of that fits together.[1][4]

        The Artisan Press

The Artisan Press is the mod's one processing block. It is there for processed foods like Cheese and Tofu. The recipe dump lists 16 Artisan Press recipes that make 17 different results.[1][4]

        Recipe id: pantryforblockheads:artisan_press

This is how you craft the press itself.

The press is not only for finished meals. It also turns crops into seeds: pressing a Bell Pepper or Broccoli recipe gives you seeds plus Mashed Produce. Apples and golden apples go through the press too, and give you Sprinkles of Magic along with the fruit.[4]

An apple through the press gives the apple back, plus Sprinkles of Magic.

When you break the press it drops itself.[5]

            Getting seeds

The mod adds 14 crops. Their seeds come from chest loot, trading, or a Farming for Blockheads market. In this pack the vanillaModifications.chestLootHoldsBlockheadSeeds option is true, so the mod's seeds do appear in chest loot.[1][3]

There are 16 market recipes for this mod's items in the recipe dump, for example Broccoli Seeds.[4]

              Automating crops in this pack

The pack adds machine recipes for growing this mod's crops. Three other mods have them: Energized Power (plant growth chamber), FTB Industrial Contraptions (hydroponic growth) and LTX Industries (garden simulating). These recipes are not part of Pantry for Blockheads itself.[4]

              • The plant growth chamber takes water. For Bell Pepper and Broccoli it gives you both the crop and its seeds.[4]
              • Blueberries also have a plant growth chamber recipe with water, but it gives only Blueberries, with no seeds.[4]
              • The hydroponic growth recipe for Bell Pepper Seeds gives both Bell Pepper and the seeds. The Blueberries one gives only the berries.[4]
              • The garden simulating recipes for Bell Pepper, Blueberries and Broccoli each give just the crop.[4]

Unverified What each crop drops when harvested is set in the mod's block loot tables (for example for bell peppers, broccoli, corn and grapevine). The sources here do not show those files, so the drop amounts are unverified.

The mod includes utensils meant to be placed inside a Cooking for Blockheads kitchen. In this pack there is also a toaster recipe for Popcorn, which the pack adds. The mod's own recipe for Popcorn is a smelting recipe.[1][4]

                    World generation

The mod adds two fruit trees and berry bushes that generate in the world. Two config options control this, and the pack sets both to true: vanillaModifications.generateBlockheadBushes and vanillaModifications.generateBlockheadTrees.[1][3]

Blueberry bushes and grapevines are the bush blocks. They are placed on grass blocks with air above them. The common blueberry patch uses a rarity filter of 32 and the rare one uses 384. Both blueberry patches use a count of 32. Grapevines use the same rarity values, with a count of 96.[6][7][8][9][10]

                    • Common blueberry biomes: forest, flower forest, birch forest, old growth birch forest, taiga, old growth pine taiga, old growth spruce taiga, meadow and grove.[11]
                    • Rare blueberry biomes: snowy taiga and snowy plains.[12]
                    • Common grapevine biomes: plains, sunflower plains, forest, flower forest, birch forest, old growth birch forest, windswept forest, meadow, cherry grove, grove and sparse jungle.[13]
                    • Rare grapevine biomes: windswept hills, stony peaks and wooded badlands.[14]

Lemon trees generate in bamboo jungle, jungle, savanna, savanna plateau, sparse jungle and windswept savanna. Peach trees generate in birch forest, cherry grove, flower forest, forest, meadow, old growth birch forest, plains and sunflower plains. Both tree types are placed only where there is no surface water. The tree count is picked from a weighted list: 0 with weight 19, and 1 with weight 1.[15][16][17][18]

                    Food effects and berry bushes

Some foods give a Well Fed status effect for extra health. The bonus effects have their own config options, and the pack's config file sets these to true. foodEffects.excessNutritionGrantsAbsorption lets certain foods grant Well Fed absorption when they overflow the hunger bar. foodEffects.fortuneCookies makes fortune cookies grant random effects with a cooldown. foodEffects.pinkDonutWithSprinkles makes pink donuts with sprinkles grant temporary speed buffs.[1][3][19]

The pack also has vanillaModifications.removeSweetBerryBushDamage set to true. That stops vanilla Sweet Berry Bushes from slowing and damaging you.[3]

How do you progress through Pantry for Blockheads?

                    4 parts

Pantry for Blockheads has no tier ladder in this pack. Nothing in the recipes I have here is gated behind an upgrade chain, so the useful way to think about progression is by how you get your food and your crops, from your first seeds to full automation.[4]

Stage 1: get seeds and a press

Farming for Blockheads has market recipes for Bell Pepper Seeds, Broccoli Seeds, Cauliflower Seeds, Chili Pepper Seeds, Corn Seeds, Eggplant Seeds, Lettuce Seeds, Onion Seeds and Lemon Sapling. That market is your way into the crop side of the mod.[4]

Blueberries also grow in the wild. The rare blueberry bush feature is tagged for snowy taiga and snowy plains biomes, so look there.[12]

Next up is the Artisan Press. Besides pressing seeds into Mashed Produce, it makes Cheese, Tofu, Flatbread and Sprinkles of Magic.[4]

The press is a normal crafting recipe, and it drops itself when broken.

Stage 2: kitchen tools and cooked food

Prepared foods such as Bacon, Bagel, Burger, Burrito and Chocolate are made by crafting. The pack has 44 shapeless crafting recipes that make items from this mod. Here is the burger as an example:[4]

                      Stage 3: automate your crops

Here the pack steps in. It adds machine routes for the mod's crops, and none of them are mod defaults.[4]

                      Harvesting by hand

If you farm by hand, wait for full growth. A bell pepper plant drops the crop only at age 3, and a younger plant drops seeds instead. Broccoli and cauliflower work the same way, and a fully grown plant gives bonus seeds with Fortune.[20][21][22]

Blueberry bushes pay out at two growth stages. Age 3 drops 2 to 3 blueberries and age 2 drops 1 to 2, and Fortune adds to both.[23]

Which Pantry for Blockheads config options matter?

                      2 parts

Pantry for Blockheads keeps all its settings in one file, foodEffects.fortuneCookies and friends live in config/pantryforblockheads-common.toml. In this pack every option in that file is set to true, so every feature below is switched on.[3]

                      Food effects

                      World and vanilla changes

Tip: Because removeSweetBerryBushDamage is on, you can walk through vanilla Sweet Berry Bushes without being slowed or hurt.[3]

What changed in Pantry for Blockheads between versions?

                      1 part

The sources for this section are thin, so this is a short one. FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Pantry for Blockheads version 26.1.2.8, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]

                      Version 26.1.2.8

                      • Pantry for Blockheads crops were added as valid shippables for the Farming for Blockheads Shipping Bin. That's the version you have in this pack.[2][24]
