What is Little Joys?
2 parts
Little Joys adds small rewarding events that break up routine gameplay with the occasional bit of joy. Nothing about it is a big machine or a long progression chain. It is a handful of little surprises that turn up while you play.[1]
It works in existing worlds and needs no world generation, because the events spawn or trigger around you as you play. You don't need to explore new terrain to see them.[1]
The events
- Dig Spots that hold small treasures.[1]
- Fishing Spots that guarantee a catch with treasure.[1]
- Drop Rushes, a simple timed challenge that gives bonus harvests.[1]
- Gold Rushes that give extra ores while you mine.[1]
- Fallen Stars that grant subtle blessings when you pick them up.[1]
In this pack
The pack includes Little Joys 26.1.2.5, and it has been in the pack since FTB Evolution 2 1.0.2 or earlier.[2]
The mod needs Balm installed alongside it. It is also built to be configurable for modpacks, so drops, chances and conditions can be tweaked or replaced with custom ones.[1]
How do you get started with Little Joys?
4 parts
Good news: Little Joys has nothing you need to craft or set up. It adds small rewarding events that spawn or trigger around you as you play, and it works in existing worlds without any world generation. So the first step is simply to play normally and keep an eye out for the events below.[1]
Unverified The sources here show no crafting recipe for Little Joys items and no quest that involves the mod, so there is no crafting order or quest chapter to point you to. The values below come from the pack's config file, config/littlejoys-common.toml.
Dig Spots
A Dig Spot is a block that holds a small treasure. In this pack, dig spots are turned on (digSpots.enabled) and appear 32 blocks from you (digSpots.spawnDistance), shifted 25 blocks in the direction you are facing (digSpots.projectForwardDistance). Exploring in a straight line is a good way to run into them.[1][3][4]
Another dig spot can show up for you once 300 seconds have passed since the last one appeared (digSpots.spawnIntervalSeconds), and after you dig one there is a 600 second wait (digSpots.afterDiggingCooldownSeconds). Each chunk can only ever spawn 1 dig spot (digSpots.totalLimitPerChunk), so a chunk you have already used will not give you another.[3][4]
Fishing Spots
Fishing Spots guarantee a catch with treasure. They spawn 8 blocks from you (fishingSpots.spawnDistance) and 4 blocks ahead of where you face (fishingSpots.projectForwardDistance). Your bobber needs to land within 3 blocks of the spot to trigger it (fishingSpots.fishingRangeTolerance), and fish are lured after just 2 seconds (fishingSpots.secondsUntilLured).[1][3][4]
New fishing spots can appear 300 seconds after the last one (fishingSpots.spawnIntervalSeconds), with a 600 second wait after you fish one (fishingSpots.afterFishingCooldownSeconds). Unlike dig spots, the per-chunk limit is -1, which turns that limit off (fishingSpots.totalLimitPerChunk).[3][4]
Fallen Stars and blessings
Fallen Stars grant subtle blessings when you pick them up. In this pack a roll happens every 900 seconds (fallenStars.rollIntervalSeconds), and after a star appears you wait 10,800 seconds for the next one (fallenStars.cooldownSeconds). Stars land up to 64 blocks in front of you (fallenStars.spawnRange), so look up and ahead. The chance of each roll is fallenStars.chancePerRoll.[1][3][4]
- Star of Abundance can duplicate a block drop (blessings.starOfAbundanceBlockDropChance), a mob drop (blessings.starOfAbundanceMobDropChance) or a fishing drop (blessings.starOfAbundanceFishingDropChance). No use is consumed when the roll fails.[3][4]
- Star of Prosperity can bonemeal a block you place (blessings.starOfProsperityBonemealChance) and can give twins to animals breeding nearby (blessings.starOfProsperityTwinChance).[3][4]
- Star of Serenity can extinguish you when you are on fire, with a 0.5 chance per second (blessings.starOfSerenityExtinguishChance).[3][4]
Drop Rushes and Gold Rushes
Drop Rushes are a simple timed challenge that rewards bonus harvests, and Gold Rushes give extra ores while you mine. Both are enabled in this pack (dropRush.enabled and goldRush.enabled), and their base chances are dropRush.baseChance and goldRush.baseChance. There is nothing to start, so just keep farming and mining.[1][3][4]
How does Little Joys work?
4 parts
Little Joys has no machines, multiblocks, power or fluids to automate. It adds small random events that spawn or trigger around you as you play: Dig Spots, Fishing Spots, Drop Rushes, Gold Rushes and Fallen Stars. Because of that, it works in existing worlds and needs no world generation. It also needs Balm installed alongside it.[1]
Everything is tuned in the pack's config file, starting with options like digSpots.enabled, which is true here. If you turn an event's enabled option off, that event stops spawning or triggering.[3][4]
Dig Spots
A Dig Spot is a block you dig up for treasure. The mod tags it as a dig spot block and as a point of interest. Each one spawns at a set distance from you, offset in the direction you are facing.[3][5][6]
- digSpots.spawnDistance is 32, and digSpots.projectForwardDistance is 25. That second value shifts the spawn area in the direction you are facing, and 0 would center it on you.[3][4]
- digSpots.spawnIntervalSeconds is 300 seconds after one appears. digSpots.afterDiggingCooldownSeconds is 600 seconds after you dig one up.[3][4]
- digSpots.minimumDistanceBetween is 128, so spots cannot spawn too close together.[3][4]
- digSpots.totalLimitPerChunk is 1. Once a chunk has spawned that many, it never spawns another. Setting it to -1 turns the limit off.[3][4]
The mod ships a separate dig spot loot table for each of several blocks, including basalt, blackstone, bone block, clay and crimson nylium. Each of these has a first and a second pool, and you get one roll from each. Basalt, blackstone and crimson nylium share the same contents. The first pool gives 1 to 3 diamonds, 1 to 3 emeralds, a randomly enchanted book or 2 to 4 gold ingots. The second pool gives 1 to 2 netherite scrap, 1 to 2 blaze rods, 1 to 4 magma cream or some quartz.[7][8][9]
Bone block and clay use that same first pool. Bone block's second pool is 2 to 4 bones. Clay's second pool is one of raw iron, bones (1 to 4), an ender pearl, carrots (2 to 4) or potatoes (2 to 4).[10][11]
Unverified The dig spot loot tables for the other blocks (dirt, grass block, gravel, ice, magma block, moss block, mud, end stone and more) are data files in the mod that the sources here do not show, so what they drop is unverified.
Fishing Spots
Fishing Spots guarantee a catch with treasure, and they lure fish quicker than regular water. In this pack fishingSpots.secondsUntilLured is 2, and -1 would disable the faster lure.[1][3][4]
- Spots appear close to you: fishingSpots.spawnDistance is 8 and fishingSpots.projectForwardDistance is 4.[3][4]
- Your bobber must be within fishingSpots.fishingRangeTolerance of the spot to trigger it, which is 3 in this pack.[3][4]
- fishingSpots.spawnIntervalSeconds is 300 seconds, and fishingSpots.afterFishingCooldownSeconds is 600 seconds after you fish one.[3][4]
- fishingSpots.minimumDistanceBetween is 128, and fishingSpots.totalLimitPerChunk is -1, which disables the per-chunk limit.[3][4]
The config also has Stardew Fishing options. The treasure chest and golden chest bonuses (stardewFishing.fishingSpotTreasureChestChanceBonus and stardewFishing.fishingSpotGoldenChestChanceBonus) are both 0 here. stardewFishing.skipFishingSpotRewards is false, so the mod's own spot rewards are not skipped when Stardew Fishing minigames take over.[3][4]
Drop Rushes and Gold Rushes
A Drop Rush is a simple timed challenge that gives bonus harvests, and its advancement asks you to collect every drop of one. A Gold Rush gives extra ores while mining.[1][3]
dropRush.baseChance is 0.019999999552965164 in this pack.[4]
goldRush.baseChance is 0.019999999552965164 in this pack too. You can turn these events off with dropRush.enabled and goldRush.enabled, and both are true here.[3][4]
The item tag for tools that can trigger a Gold Rush includes pickaxes. The Drop Rush loot table the sources show is for sweet berry bushes, and it gives 1 to 3 sweet berries.[12][13]
Fallen Stars and blessings
Fallen Stars fall in front of you, and picking up a Fallen Star grants a blessing. The game rolls for a star every fallenStars.rollIntervalSeconds, which is 900 seconds in this pack. Once your cooldown has elapsed, fallenStars.chancePerRoll decides each roll, and it is 0.20000000298023224 here.[1][3][4]
After a star appears, fallenStars.cooldownSeconds sets a wait of 10,800 seconds before another can appear for you. Stars spawn up to fallenStars.spawnRange (64) blocks in front of you, and fallenStars.minimumDistanceBetween keeps them at least 128 apart.[3][4]
Blessings come as effects: Star of Abundance, Star of Fate, Star of Prosperity and Star of Serenity. Each effect shows its uses left as Brilliant, Radiant, Glowing or Fading. When a chance roll fails, no use is consumed.[3][4]
- Star of Abundance can duplicate a block drop. blessings.starOfAbundanceBlockDropChance is 0.10000000149011612.[3][4]
- Star of Abundance can duplicate a fishing drop. blessings.starOfAbundanceFishingDropChance is 0.30000001192092896.[4]
- Star of Abundance can duplicate a mob drop. blessings.starOfAbundanceMobDropChance is 0.20000000298023224.[4]
- Star of Prosperity can bonemeal a placed bonemealable block. blessings.starOfProsperityBonemealChance is 0.10000000149011612.[3][4]
- Star of Prosperity can cause animals breeding nearby to have twins. blessings.starOfProsperityTwinChance is 0.20000000298023224.[3][4]
- Star of Serenity has a chance per second to put you out when you are on fire. blessings.starOfSerenityExtinguishChance is 0.5.[4]
- Star of Serenity's damage tag covers sweet berry bush and cactus damage, and slimes and magma cubes are in its calmed-by-serenity entity tag.[14][15]
How do you progress through Little Joys?
3 parts
Unverified The sources here show no tier ladder, no quest chapter and no crafting recipe for Little Joys in this pack, so there is no step-by-step progression to lay out. Where the mod sits in the quest book is not shown in these sources. What follows is only what the mod's own data files confirm.
What the data does show
Little Joys has a dig spot block and a fishing spot block, each listed in its own block tag. Dig spot loot tables are split by the block type, and basalt and blackstone are two of them.[5][7][8][16]
Basalt and blackstone dig spots
The basalt and blackstone dig spots use identical loot tables. Each has two pools with a single roll apiece, so a dig gives you one result from each pool.[7][8]
The first pool can give one to three diamonds, one to three emeralds, a randomly enchanted book, or two to four gold ingots. Books have weight 4, gold ingots 3 and emeralds 2, while the diamond entry lists no weight.[7][8]
The second pool can give netherite scrap (one to two), blaze rods (one to two), magma cream (one to four) or quartz. Quartz has weight 4, magma cream 3 and blaze rods 2, while the netherite scrap entry lists no weight.[7][8]

Which Little Joys config options matter?
6 parts
Little Joys adds small events that trigger around you as you play, like dig spots, fishing spots, fallen stars and rushes. Everything below lives in one file, and these are the values this pack sets in it. Chances are stored as long decimals in the file, so I quote them exactly as written.[1][4]
Fallen stars
- fallenStars.enabled is true, so fallen stars can spawn. They grant subtle blessings when you pick them up.[1][4]
- fallenStars.rollIntervalSeconds is 900, and each roll has a fallenStars.chancePerRoll of 0.20000000298023224.[4]
- fallenStars.cooldownSeconds is 10,800, the time that must pass after a star appears before another can appear for you.[4]
- fallenStars.spawnRange is 64, the maximum distance in front of you where a star can spawn. fallenStars.minimumDistanceBetween is 128.[4]
Dig spots
- digSpots.enabled is true. digSpots.spawnDistance is 32 and digSpots.projectForwardDistance is 25, which shifts the spawn area in the direction you are facing.[4]
- digSpots.spawnIntervalSeconds is 300 and digSpots.afterDiggingCooldownSeconds is 600, so after you dig one up you wait longer for the next.[4]
- digSpots.minimumDistanceBetween is 128. digSpots.totalLimitPerChunk is 1, meaning once a chunk has spawned one dig spot it never spawns another.[4]
Fishing spots
- fishingSpots.enabled is true. fishingSpots.spawnDistance is 8 and fishingSpots.projectForwardDistance is 4, so they appear close to you.[4]
- fishingSpots.spawnIntervalSeconds is 300 and fishingSpots.afterFishingCooldownSeconds is 600. fishingSpots.minimumDistanceBetween is 128.[4]
- fishingSpots.secondsUntilLured is 2, so fish bite faster than in regular water. Your bobber must be within fishingSpots.fishingRangeTolerance (set to 3) to trigger the spot.[4]
- fishingSpots.totalLimitPerChunk is -1, which disables the per-chunk limit.[4]
Drop rushes and gold rushes
- dropRush.enabled is true, with a dropRush.baseChance of 0.019999999552965164.[4]
- goldRush.enabled is true, with a goldRush.baseChance of 0.019999999552965164.[4]
Star blessings
When a blessing roll fails, no use of the star is consumed.[4]
- Star of Abundance duplicates drops: blessings.starOfAbundanceBlockDropChance is 0.10000000149011612 for blocks, blessings.starOfAbundanceMobDropChance is 0.20000000298023224 for mobs and blessings.starOfAbundanceFishingDropChance is 0.30000001192092896 for fishing.[4]
- Star of Prosperity: blessings.starOfProsperityBonemealChance is 0.10000000149011612 to bonemeal a placed block, and blessings.starOfProsperityTwinChance is 0.20000000298023224 for twins when animals breed nearby.[4]
- Star of Serenity: blessings.starOfSerenityExtinguishChance is 0.5 per second to put you out when you are on fire.[4]
Stardew Fishing
- stardewFishing.fishingSpotGoldenChestChanceBonus and stardewFishing.fishingSpotTreasureChestChanceBonus are both 0, so fishing spots add no extra chest chance.[4]
- stardewFishing.skipFishingSpotRewards is false. If you turn it on, the mod's own fishing spot rewards are skipped when Stardew Fishing minigames take over.[4]
What changed in Little Joys between versions?
1 part
FTB Evolution 2 1.1.0 ships Little Joys 26.1.2.5. The mod has been in the pack since 1.0.2 or earlier, so this isn't a new addition for you.[2]
Little Joys 26.1.2.5
The mod's own changelog for the version in this pack lists two fixes, both about chunk loading:[2][17]
- Fixed potential chunk loads while trying to spawn dig spots.[17]
- Fixed potential chunk loads while trying to spawn fishing spots.[17]
In plain terms, the game should no longer load extra chunks just because the mod is trying to place a dig spot or a fishing spot. Nothing in that changelog changes recipes or values.[17]
The sources I have don't include any pack changelog entries for this mod, so I can't tell you about changes between earlier pack releases.[2]
