What is Ex Nihilo: Sequentia?
Ex Nihilo: Sequentia is part of this pack's mod list. The pack ships version 1.18.2-20221113-044349 of the mod, in the file ExNihiloSequentia-1.18.2-20221113-044349.jar.[1]
It isn't a recent addition. The mod was first included in the pack's 1.1 release or earlier, so it has been there for a long time.[1]
Unverified I couldn't confirm what the mod's features look like in this pack, who it suits best, or where it sits in the pack's progression. No recipes, configs, quests or in-jar guidebook were available to check, so this overview doesn't describe gameplay. I also couldn't confirm any link to the ATM Star path. Check the in-game recipe viewer for the exact recipes before you plan around it. This site does hold All the Mods - Gravitas's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.
How do you get started with Ex Nihilo: Sequentia?
3 parts
Ex Nihilo: Sequentia is all about making resources from scratch, and the recipes the sources confirm give you a clear order to work in. Here is how I would go through them.[2]
Start with a Silkworm
The Silkworm is the item to chase first. It comes from crook recipes. This one turns ordinary leaves into a silkworm.[2]
This is the mod's own crook recipe, unchanged by the pack.
Infested Leaves also give a silkworm with a crook.[2]
Sea Water and Witch Water
Next come the special fluids, both made with fluid transform recipes. This is the recipe for Sea Water.[2]
And this one gives you Witch Water.[2]
Fluid Transform (exnihilosequentia)
Recipe id: exnihilosequentia:fluid_transform/ens_witch_water
These fluids matter because the mod's dolls use them. Going by the mod's own tooltips, a doll added to a barrel of witch water can spawn a Bee, an Enderman or a Shulker. In a barrel of sea water it spawns a Guardian, and in a barrel of lava it spawns a Blaze.[3]
Upgrade your meshes
The pack has changed the recipe for the Emerald Mesh, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Use the recipe below.[2]

The Netherite Mesh is made in a smithing recipe, and that one is the mod's own, not changed by the pack.[2]

How does Ex Nihilo: Sequentia work?
10 parts
Ex Nihilo: Sequentia is built around a few simple machines: the barrel, the crucible, and tools like the crook. Here is how they behave in this pack, based on the config the pack ships and the recipes it uses.[2][4]
Barrels
The barrel is the workhorse. In this pack it holds just 1 bucket of fluid, set by barrel.barrelNumberOfBuckets. Rain can fill it too, adding 2 units of fluid per iteration according to barrel.rainFillAmount.[4]
barrel.woodBarrelMaxTemp sets the maximum temperature a barrel can accept. It is 300 here, which is the temperature of water.[4]
Composting
Composting starts once the barrel holds 1,000 units of solids (barrel.compost.maxSolidAmount). After that it takes 10 seconds to finish (barrel.compost.secondsToCompost).[4]
Fluid transformation
Barrels can turn one fluid into another. Each transformation takes 10 seconds, controlled by barrel.fluid_transform.secondsToTransformFluid. The fluid recipes in the sources make Sea Water and Witch Water. Both are mod recipes, so the pack hasn't changed them.[2][4]
Fluid Transform (exnihilosequentia)
Recipe id: exnihilosequentia:fluid_transform/ens_witch_water
Spawning mobs with dolls
Dolls go into a barrel of the right fluid, and the mob spawns after 10 seconds (barrel.mob_spawn.secondsToSpawnMobs). The tooltips tell you which fluid each doll needs.[3][4]
- Bee, Enderman and Shulker dolls go into a barrel of witch water.[3]
- The Guardian doll goes into a barrel of sea water.[3]
- The Blaze doll goes into a barrel of lava.[3]
Crucibles
A crucible holds 4 buckets in this pack (crucible.crucibleNumberOfBuckets). It performs a melting operation every 20 ticks (crucible.ticksBetweenMelts). The Wood Crucible uses a heat rate of 2 regardless of its heat source (crucible.wood.woodHeatRate).[4]
Crooks and infested leaves
Crooks are how you get string and silkworms. A crook drops at least 2 string from infested leaves (crook.minStringCount). It can add up to 3 more on top of that (crook.maxBonusStringCount). When it breaks a leaf block it simulates the break 3 times to roll for drops (crook.vanillaDropSimulateCount).[4]
A crook can also turn leaves or Infested Leaves into a Silkworm.[2]
Infested leaves spread on their own. Leaves take 10 seconds to become fully infested (infested_leaves.secondsToTransformLeaves). A spread attempt happens every 100 ticks (infested_leaves.ticksBetweenSpreadAttempt), with a 0.3 chance each time (infested_leaves.spreadChance).[4]
Tool durability
The pack changed a couple of crook durabilities. The Gold Crook has 64 durability instead of the default 32 (durability.crook.crookGoldValue). The Iron Crook has 512 instead of the default 256 (durability.crook.crookIronValue).[4]
The other crook values shown match their defaults. The Wooden Crook has 128, the Diamond Crook 2,048, and the Netherite Crook 8,192. Stone, Andesite, Diorite, Granite and Bone crooks all have 256.[4]
Hammer durabilities also match their defaults. Wood is 128, Stone 256, Iron 512, Diamond 4,096 and Netherite 8,192. Gold is 64.[4]
Meshes
The pack changed the recipe for the Emerald Mesh, so check the recipe below rather than assuming the mod default. The Netherite Mesh is a smithing upgrade made from the Emerald Mesh, and the pack leaves that recipe as the mod has it.[2]

Mesh durability values in the config are 1,561 for Diamond and Emerald, 2,031 for Netherite, 250 for Iron, 131 for Flint and 59 for String. These all match the mod defaults.[4]
Ore options
The per-metal ore toggles, such as ore.enableCopper and ore.enableIron, only work when ore.enableOreOverride is true. The pack sets that to false, so those toggles have no effect here.[4]
Quality-of-life settings
A few options only change feel. barrel.showParticles, barrel.netherBarrelSoundsEnabled and crucible.netherCrucibleSoundsEnabled are all true. debug.enableDebugLogging is false.[4]
How do you progress through Ex Nihilo: Sequentia?
3 parts
The recipes I can confirm for Ex Nihilo: Sequentia in this pack cover crook drops, a pair of fluid conversions and the mesh upgrades. They don't show sieve drops, hammers or other tool tiers, so I'm leaving those out.[2]
Crook drops: Silkworms
Using the crook on leaves gives you a Silkworm. Using it on Infested Leaves also gives a Silkworm. Both are the mod's own crook recipes, and the pack hasn't changed them.[2]
Crook on leaves gives a Silkworm, unchanged from the mod.
Crook on Infested Leaves also gives a Silkworm, unchanged from the mod.
Fluid transformations
Sea Water and Witch Water both come from fluid transform recipes that start with plain water. Both are the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack.[2]

Mesh upgrades
The pack changed the Emerald Mesh recipe, so don't rely on the mod's default. In this pack it is a shaped crafting recipe, shown below.[2]

Netherite Mesh is the upgrade after that. It is made with the mod's default smithing recipe, starting from the Emerald Mesh.[2]

Unverified The sources here show no quests for this mod and no in-jar guidebook was found for it, so the order above comes from the recipes alone. Check the pack's quest book yourself to see if anything points you along a different route.
How does Ex Nihilo: Sequentia work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, the recipes that link Ex Nihilo: Sequentia with other mods are both crafting recipes. One uses an Ex Nihilo hammer to make a tool from another mod. The other is an Ex Nihilo mesh whose recipe the pack has changed.[2]
Flux Hammer: built from your Diamond Hammer
The Flux Hammer is crafted using the Diamond Hammer. So the Ex Nihilo hammer you already have is the starting point for this machine-mod tool. It is a mod recipe, not one the pack has changed.[2]

Emerald Mesh: a pack-changed recipe
The recipe for the Emerald Mesh is changed by the pack. It now uses the Desh Ingot, an item from another mod. Don't expect the Emerald Mesh to follow the mod's default recipe here, because the pack's version is the one that counts.[2]

Which Ex Nihilo: Sequentia config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Everything here lives in one file, config/exnihilosequentia-common.toml. Good news: the pack leaves almost every option at the mod default. Only two values differ, and both are crook durabilities.[5]
What the pack changed
- Gold crook durability (durability.crook.crookGoldValue) is 64 in this pack. The mod default is 32.[5]
- Iron crook durability (durability.crook.crookIronValue) is 512 in this pack. The mod default is 256.[5]
Sieve settings
- sieve.maxSieveClicks is 10, the maximum of its 1 to 10 range. That is how many clicks it takes to sieve one block.[5]
- sieve.flattenSieveRecipes is true, so the sieve gives results for all mesh tiers below the one in the sieve.[5]
- sieve.enableMeshDurability is false, so meshes don't break and they stack up to the sieve.meshStackSize of 64. The mesh durability values only matter if you turn mesh durability on.[5]
- sieve.sieveRange is 2. That is the radius in which a sieve tries to activate other sieves.[5]
Barrels and crucibles
- A barrel holds barrel.barrelNumberOfBuckets bucket (1), and a crucible holds crucible.crucibleNumberOfBuckets buckets (4).[5]
- Composting starts once the barrel has barrel.compost.maxSolidAmount (1,000) solids, and it then takes barrel.compost.secondsToCompost (10) seconds.[5]
- Rain fills a barrel by barrel.rainFillAmount (2) per iteration.[5]
- Crucibles melt every crucible.ticksBetweenMelts (20) ticks.[5]
Crooks and infested leaves
- A crook drops at least crook.minStringCount (2) string from infested leaves, plus up to crook.maxBonusStringCount (3) extra.[5]
- Infested leaves spread with a infested_leaves.spreadChance chance of 0.3, with 100 ticks between attempts (infested_leaves.ticksBetweenSpreadAttempt).[5]
