What is Ex Nihilo: Sequentia?
Ex Nihilo: Sequentia is part of this pack. The pack ships version 1.18.2-20221113-044349 of the mod, and it has been in the pack since version 1.1 or earlier.[1]
Unverified I can't confirm from the pack files what the mod does here, who it suits best, or where it fits in the pack's progression. I also can't confirm whether it is on the ATM Star path or tied to any quests. Check in-game before relying on any of that.
How do you get started with Ex Nihilo: Sequentia?
3 parts
Ex Nihilo: Sequentia is about getting resources from a bare start, and this page walks through the first items to make in this pack, in order. Each step points to the exact in-pack recipe.[2]
Start with a Silkworm
The Silkworm comes from crook recipes. Ordinary leaves can give you a silkworm, and so can Infested Leaves. These are the mod's own recipes, unchanged by the pack.[2]

Set up your special waters
Next come the fluids. Sea Water and Witch Water are both made with fluid transform recipes, and neither is changed by the pack.[2]
Fluid Transform (exnihilosequentia)
Water
- any sand
Recipe id: exnihilosequentia:fluid_transform/ens_sea_water

Fluid Transform (exnihilosequentia)
Recipe id: exnihilosequentia:fluid_transform/ens_witch_water

It pays to get these going early, because the mod's dolls use them. Going by the mod's tooltips, the Bee, Enderman and Shulker dolls go into a barrel of witch water, and the Guardian doll goes into a barrel of sea water. The Blaze doll goes into a barrel of lava.[3]
Upgrade your meshes
The pack changed the Emerald Mesh crafting recipe, so do not rely on older guides or the mod's defaults. Use the recipe below.[2]

The Netherite Mesh is a smithing upgrade of the emerald mesh, so it comes after it. This one is the mod's own recipe, not a pack change.[2]

How does Ex Nihilo: Sequentia work?
9 parts
Ex Nihilo: Sequentia is built around a handful of machines and tools: the barrel, the crucible, the crook and the meshes. This section covers what the pack's config, tooltips and recipes tell us about how they behave. Anything the sources don't show is left out.[2][4]
Barrels
The barrel composts, transforms fluids and spawns mobs. In this pack a barrel holds 1 bucket, set by barrel.barrelNumberOfBuckets.[4]
Rain tops a barrel up by 2 units of fluid per iteration, set by barrel.rainFillAmount.[4]
barrel.woodBarrelMaxTemp is the maximum temperature a barrel accepts. It is 300 in the pack, and the config comment notes that water is 300.[4]
- Composting: the barrel needs 1,000 solids before composting starts (barrel.compost.maxSolidAmount).[4]
- The compost step takes 10 seconds (barrel.compost.secondsToCompost).[4]
- Fluid transformation takes 10 seconds (barrel.fluid_transform.secondsToTransformFluid).[4]
- Mob spawning takes 10 seconds (barrel.mob_spawn.secondsToSpawnMobs).[4]
These values match the mod defaults listed in the config comments, so the pack hasn't changed them. There are also cosmetic toggles, barrel.showParticles and barrel.netherBarrelSoundsEnabled, and the pack leaves them on.[4]
Fluid transformation
Sea Water and Witch Water both come from fluid transform recipes, and both are unmodified mod recipes.[2]
Fluid Transform (exnihilosequentia)
Recipe id: exnihilosequentia:fluid_transform/ens_witch_water
These fluids matter for mob spawning. The doll tooltips say that Bee, Enderman and Shulker dolls go into a barrel of witch water, a Guardian doll goes into sea water, and a Blaze doll goes into lava.[3]
Crucibles
- The crucible holds 4 buckets in this pack (crucible.crucibleNumberOfBuckets).[4]
- It performs a melting operation every 20 ticks (crucible.ticksBetweenMelts).[4]
- The wooden crucible uses a heat rate of 2 whatever the heat source is (crucible.wood.woodHeatRate).[4]
As with barrels, the nether crucible sounds can be switched off with crucible.netherCrucibleSoundsEnabled, which is true in the pack.[4]
Crooks and infested leaves
The crook turns leaves into Silkworm, and it also works on Infested Leaves. Both are mod recipes, not pack changes.[2]
- A crook drops at least 2 string from infested leaves (crook.minStringCount).[4]
- On top of that it can drop up to 3 additional string (crook.maxBonusStringCount).[4]
- The crook simulates breaking a leaf block 3 times to collect normal drops (crook.vanillaDropSimulateCount).[4]
Infested leaves spread on their own. Spread attempts happen every 100 ticks (infested_leaves.ticksBetweenSpreadAttempt), each with a 0.3 chance (infested_leaves.spreadChance). Leaves take 10 seconds to become completely infested (infested_leaves.secondsToTransformLeaves).[4]
Crook durability
The pack changes the gold and iron crook durabilities from the mod defaults. The gold crook has 64 durability instead of the default 32, and the iron crook has 512 instead of the default 256.[4]
- Gold crook: 64 (durability.crook.crookGoldValue), changed by the pack.[4]
- Iron crook: 512 (durability.crook.crookIronValue), changed by the pack.[4]
- Wooden crook: 128 (durability.crook.crookWoodValue).[4]
- Stone crook: 256 (durability.crook.crookStoneValue).[4]
- Bone crook: 256 (durability.crook.crookBoneValue).[4]
- Andesite crook: 256 (durability.crook.crookAndesiteValue).[4]
- Diorite crook: 256 (durability.crook.crookDioriteValue).[4]
- Granite crook: 256 (durability.crook.crookGraniteValue).[4]
- Diamond crook: 2,048 (durability.crook.crookDiamondValue).[4]
- Netherite crook: 8,192 (durability.crook.crookNetheriteValue).[4]
Hammer durability
- Wooden hammer: 128 (durability.hammer.hammerWoodValue).[4]
- Stone hammer: 256 (durability.hammer.hammerStoneValue).[4]
- Gold hammer: 64 (durability.hammer.hammerGoldValue).[4]
- Iron hammer: 512 (durability.hammer.hammerIronValue).[4]
- Diamond hammer: 4,096 (durability.hammer.hammerDiamondValue).[4]
- Netherite hammer: 8,192 (durability.hammer.hammerNetheriteValue).[4]
The hammer values all match the defaults in the config comments.[4]
Mesh durability
The config comments say mesh durability values are only useful if mesh durability is enabled. The values in the pack are below, and they all match the defaults.[4]
- String mesh: 59 (durability.mesh.meshStringValue).[4]
- Flint mesh: 131 (durability.mesh.meshFlintValue).[4]
- Iron mesh: 250 (durability.mesh.meshIronValue).[4]
- Diamond mesh: 1,561 (durability.mesh.meshDiamondValue).[4]
- Emerald mesh: 1,561 (durability.mesh.meshEmeraldValue).[4]
- Netherite mesh: 2,031 (durability.mesh.meshNetheriteValue).[4]
Mesh crafting
The pack changed the recipe for Emerald Mesh. It now uses a Desh Ingot from another mod, so check the recipe below rather than relying on the mod's default.[2]

Ore toggles
The config has per-metal switches for aluminum, copper, gold, iron, lead, nickel and platinum, for example ore.enableCopper. They only work when ore.enableOreOverride is true, and the pack leaves that false, so the per-metal switches have no effect here.[4]
How do you progress through Ex Nihilo: Sequentia?
3 parts
The recipes for Ex Nihilo: Sequentia in this pack show a clear chain of upgrades. You start with silkworms, move up through the meshes, and use fluid transformations for special fluids.[2]
Silkworms from a crook
Your first goal is Silkworm. You get it with a crook, and both crook recipes are the mod's own, so the pack leaves them unchanged. One works on any leaves block, and the other works on Infested Leaves.[2]

Mesh upgrades
The Emerald Mesh recipe is changed by the pack, so don't rely on what you remember from the mod's defaults. Use the recipe below, which is the exact in-pack version.[2]

The Netherite Mesh is the next step up. It is a smithing recipe that upgrades the Emerald Mesh, and it is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.[2]

Fluid transformations
The mod also has fluid transform recipes. Both are mod recipes, unchanged by the pack. One makes Sea Water and the other makes Witch Water.[2]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quest for this mod, so where it sits in the pack's quest book is not covered. The recipes above are the only progression detail confirmed here.
How does Ex Nihilo: Sequentia work with other mods?
2 parts
In this pack, Ex Nihilo: Sequentia links up with other mods through crafting recipes that mix its items with items from elsewhere. Those recipes are the connections the sources here confirm.[2]
Flux Hammer
The Flux Hammer is crafted from Ex Nihilo's Diamond Hammer, so the Ex Nihilo hammer is an input for the Flux Hammer. The recipe block below shows the exact layout, which also uses a Hopper.[2]

Emerald Mesh
The Emerald Mesh recipe has been changed by the pack. It uses a Desh Ingot, so this mesh depends on an item from another mod. The block below shows the exact in-pack recipe.[2]

Which Ex Nihilo: Sequentia config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 guide
Everything here lives in one file, config/exnihilosequentia-common.toml. Good news: the pack leaves almost every option at the mod default. Only two values differ, and both are crook durabilities.[5]
What the pack changed
- Gold crook durability (durability.crook.crookGoldValue) is 64 in this pack. The mod default is 32.[5]
- Iron crook durability (durability.crook.crookIronValue) is 512 in this pack. The mod default is 256.[5]
Sieve settings
- sieve.maxSieveClicks is 10, the maximum of its 1 to 10 range. That is how many clicks it takes to sieve one block.[5]
- sieve.flattenSieveRecipes is true, so the sieve gives results for all mesh tiers below the one in the sieve.[5]
- sieve.enableMeshDurability is false, so meshes don't break and they stack up to the sieve.meshStackSize of 64. The mesh durability values only matter if you turn mesh durability on.[5]
- sieve.sieveRange is 2. That is the radius in which a sieve tries to activate other sieves.[5]
Barrels and crucibles
- A barrel holds barrel.barrelNumberOfBuckets bucket (1), and a crucible holds crucible.crucibleNumberOfBuckets buckets (4).[5]
- Composting starts once the barrel has barrel.compost.maxSolidAmount (1,000) solids, and it then takes barrel.compost.secondsToCompost (10) seconds.[5]
- Rain fills a barrel by barrel.rainFillAmount (2) per iteration.[5]
- Crucibles melt every crucible.ticksBetweenMelts (20) ticks.[5]
Crooks and infested leaves
- A crook drops at least crook.minStringCount (2) string from infested leaves, plus up to crook.maxBonusStringCount (3) extra.[5]
- Infested leaves spread with a infested_leaves.spreadChance chance of 0.3, with 100 ticks between attempts (infested_leaves.ticksBetweenSpreadAttempt).[5]
