What is Comforts?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Comforts adds sleeping bags and hammocks to the game. You use them like beds, but they never set your spawn point, so your respawn stays safely at your home base. Both come in 16 colors, and you can dye any sleeping bag or hammock cloth into any other color.[1]

Sleeping bags

Sleeping bags are the portable option. They stack and are more convenient to carry on adventures, which makes them handy for skipping the night when you're far from home and don't want to move your spawn.[1]

Hammocks

Hammocks work like an inverse bed: they turn day into night. Building one takes a bit more than crafting the cloth, so the mod author's hammock building guide is worth a look before you start.[1]

Who it's for

If you travel a lot, explore far from base, or run long mining and exploration trips, this mod is for you. It lets you sleep through the night without risking your carefully placed spawn point.[1]

In this pack

The pack ships Comforts 9.0.5+1.21.1 for NeoForge. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

The mod has several config options: Auto-Use Sleeping Bag, Well-Rested Mechanic, Sleepiness Factor, Hammocks at Night, Sleeping Bag Break Chance, Sleeping Bag Debuffs, and Insulated Sleeping Bags. The sources I have don't show whether the pack changes any of their defaults, so check the config in your own instance before relying on specific behavior.[1]

Unverified No quests in this pack were found for Comforts, and it does not appear on the ATM Star path. Treat it as an optional quality-of-life mod rather than a progression step.

How do you get started with Comforts?

5 parts

Comforts adds sleeping bags and hammocks. You use them like beds, but they do not set your spawn point, so your respawn stays safe at your home base. Both come in 16 colors, and the order below is a good way to work through them.[1]

First, make a sleeping bag

Start with the White Sleeping Bag. Sleeping bags can be stacked and are convenient on adventures, so this is the one to craft before you head out. The pack changed this recipe from the mod's default, so use the one below.[1][3]

This is the pack's changed recipe for the white sleeping bag.

Tip: Sleeping bags and hammocks don't set a spawn point, so keep a real bed at home if you want to respawn there.[1]

Next, make hammock cloth

A hammock is like an inverse bed, turning day into night. The White Hammock Cloth is the cloth you craft for it, and the pack changed this recipe too.[1][3]

The mod's project page points to its own guide for how to build the hammock once you have the cloth.[1]

Craft Rope and Nail

The mod also adds Rope and Nail. The pack has a shaped recipe and a shapeless recipe for it, so you can craft it either way.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

  • any iron ingot

Recipe id: comforts:rope_and_nail_shapeless

The shapeless alternative, also the mod's own.

Dye them to taste

Once you have the white versions, you can dye them into the other colors. The pack has a separate dye recipe for each color, starting from the white sleeping bag or the white hammock cloth. Red is shown here as an example, and the other colors follow the same pattern.[1][3]

Mod options

The mod lists these configuration options: Auto-Use Sleeping Bag, Well-Rested Mechanic, Sleepiness Factor, Hammocks at Night, Sleeping Bag Break Chance, Sleeping Bag Debuffs and Insulated Sleeping Bags.[1]

How does Comforts work?

5 parts

Comforts has no machines, multiblocks, power, fluids or item automation. The mod is just sleeping bags and hammocks, so this section covers how those items behave and how they are made in this pack.[1]

Beds that don't touch your spawn

Sleeping bags and hammocks can be used just like beds, except they do not set your spawn point on use. That preserves your spawn at your home base, so you can nap out in the field without losing it.[1]

  • Sleeping bags are the portable option. They can be stacked and are more convenient to use on adventures.[1]
  • Hammocks work like an inverse bed and turn day into night.[1]

Colors and dyeing

Sleeping bags and hammock cloth come in 16 colors, just like beds. Any sleeping bag or hammock cloth can be dyed into any other color. In this pack, the dye recipes start from the white version and are shapeless crafts with a dye of the color you want.[1][3]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: comforts:hammock_black_from_white

An example of the dye recipes: white hammock cloth into black.

The same pattern works for sleeping bags, for example White Sleeping Bag into Blue Sleeping Bag.[3]

Hammock cloth in this pack

The pack changed the base hammock recipe, so don't rely on what the mod does by default. The white White Hammock Cloth now uses TFC materials instead of the mod's own layout. Here is the exact in-pack recipe:[3]

This recipe was changed by the pack to use TFC wool materials.

The mod's own description of hammock cloth (colored wool in the center, sticks above and below, string elsewhere) is the mod default, not what this pack uses.[1][3]

Rope and Nail

Rope and Nail has a shaped recipe and a shapeless recipe in this pack. Both are mod recipes that the pack has left unchanged.[3]

Configuration

The mod lists these configuration options: Auto-Use Sleeping Bag, Well-Rested Mechanic, Sleepiness Factor, Hammocks at Night, Sleeping Bag Break Chance, Sleeping Bag Debuffs and Insulated Sleeping Bags.[1]

Unverified The values of those options in this pack are set in the mod's config, and the sources here do not show them. The pack has no config files for this mod in the available sources.

How do you progress through Comforts?

3 parts

Comforts doesn't have tiers in the usual modded sense. In this pack it's a short crafting chain: make a white base item, then dye it into the other colors. That's the whole path, so this section is short.[3]

Unverified The sources here show no quests for Comforts, so whether the pack's quest book guides you through this mod is unverified. Check the quest book in game.

The white base items

The sleeping bag and the hammock cloth both start in white, and the pack has changed both recipes. You won't get them the way the standalone mod gives them. The recipes below show exactly what the pack uses.[3]

Dye your colors

Every other color is made by combining the white version with a matching dye in a shapeless recipe. These recipes are the mod's own, and the pack hasn't changed them. Each colored recipe starts from the white item.[3]

Here are the red versions as an example. The other colors follow the same pattern with their own dye.[3]

Crafting Shapeless

Dyes the white bag into the Red Sleeping Bag. This is the mod's own recipe.

Crafting Shapeless

Tip: Make the white sleeping bag or hammock cloth first, then dye copies of it as you need them. Every colored recipe starts from the white item, so you don't have to craft each color from scratch.[3]

Rope and Nail

The Rope and Nail has a shaped recipe and a shapeless recipe. Both are the mod's defaults, and the pack hasn't changed them. The shapeless one takes rope where the shaped one takes string.[3]

How does Comforts work with other mods?

2 parts

Comforts connects to other mods in this pack through its crafting recipes. Both the White Sleeping Bag and the White Hammock Cloth are changed by the pack, so they don't match what you may remember from the mod on its own.[3]

The mod's own project page describes a sleeping bag as three matching pieces of wool in a straight line, and a hammock cloth as a piece of wool in the center with sticks at the top and bottom and string in the other slots. In this pack, both recipes instead use items from the tfc namespace, so check the recipes below before you start crafting.[1][3]

What changed in Comforts between versions?

1 part

All the Mods - Gravitas 4.0 ships Comforts 1.18.2-5.0.0.6. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods - Gravitas 1.1 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the modpack.[4]

Comforts 1.18.2-5.0.0.6

This is the version in the pack, released on 2023.02.16. Its changelog lists a single fix: dedicated server crashes related to Creative tabs.[4][5]

The changelog available to me only covers this most recent version of the mod, so I can't say what changed in earlier Comforts releases.[5]

Unverified The pack's own changelogs have no entries for Comforts, so I can't confirm whether any value or recipe was changed by the pack across its releases.
