What is Sushi Go Crafting?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Sushi Go Crafting is a food mod about making sushi, and it's a lot more involved than smacking ingredients together. You get a small discovery minigame to find the perfect recipe, and a well-made sushi gives you effects on top of food and saturation. This pack includes version 0.6.5 of the mod.[1][2][3]

It's a good fit if you like cooking and experimenting, or you just want food with real benefits. The sushi types are Maki, Gunkan, California, Nigiri, Onigiri and Temaki.[1]

How it works

Most ingredients have a weight, and many carry an effect or a modifier that changes the effects of other ingredients. When you combine them into a sushi roll, all of those effects stack up. If ingredients refuse to combine, you've probably gone over the max amount.[1][4]

The Roller is your main tool. You pick a sushi type, put ingredients in the right slots, choose how much of each to use, then left click the Roller repeatedly to produce your sushi. A perfect roll gives better food values and effects.[5]

Tip: You don't need to memorize perfect weights. The Roller shows the ones you've already discovered, and the tooltip tells you how far off a roll is.[5]

Your kitchen

  • Cutting Board: place ingredients on it with right click, then chop them with a Cleaver Knife. Sneak + right click removes them.[6]
  • Cooler Box: put weighted ingredients inside and they combine automatically.[7]
  • Rice Cooker: cooks Rice with Water and some fuel, and combines the Cooked Rice in the output for you.[8]

Eating well-made sushi can give you Small Bites (a small chance of not consuming the item), Acquired Taste (extra food) or Steady Hands (extra weight from a cutting board).[9]

Finding ingredients

  • Avocado trees generate in the world, mostly in plains. Right click the leaves to harvest a fully grown avocado.[10]
  • Seaweed generates in the world, and Tuna and Shrimp spawn in the ocean.[1][11]
  • Seeds come from breaking grass. Crops grow normally except Rice, which must be grown underwater on dirt.[12]
  • Nori Sheets come from a Dried Kelp Block, made from ocean Kelp, squished between an Iron Block and a piston.[13]
  • Tobiko drops from killing fish.[14]

Unverified The sources I have show no quests and no ATM Star path involvement for this mod, so its place in the pack's progression is unconfirmed.

How do you get started with Sushi Go Crafting?

5 parts

Sushi Go Crafting is a food mod about making sushi, with a small discovery minigame that rewards you for getting the perfect roll. Each ingredient brings its own effect or modifier, and they all combine in the finished roll, so a good sushi gives you much more than plain food and saturation.[1]

Step 1: Gather your first ingredients

Before you craft any tools, start collecting raw food, because some of it takes time to grow. Here's where the basics come from:[10][12][13]

  • Break grass to get seeds. Most crops grow like normal crops, but rice has to be grown underwater on dirt.[12]
  • For Nori Sheets, collect Kelp from the ocean and make a Dried Kelp Block. Drop the block as an item and squish it with a piston against an Iron Block.[13]
  • Avocado trees spawn in the world, mostly in plains. When the avocado is fully grown, right-click the leaves to harvest it.[10]
  • Tuna and Shrimp live in the ocean, and you get Tobiko by killing fish.[11][14]

Step 2: Craft the Roller

The Roller is the most important tool for making sushi, so make it first. Choose the type of sushi, place your ingredients in the right slots, set how much of each to use, then left-click the Roller a bunch of times. The tooltip shows how far you are from the perfect weight, and the Roller remembers perfect weights you've already discovered. Perfect rolls give better food values and effects, so it's worth experimenting.[5]

Step 3: Cutting Board and Cleaver Knife

Most ingredients need chopping. Right-click the Cutting Board to place an ingredient on it, then right-click with a Cleaver Knife to chop it. Sneak and right-click the board to take ingredients back off.[6]

Tip: If you have the Steady Hands effect while you use the Cutting Board, you get more out of each chop. Eating sushi with the right ingredients is how you get effects like this.[6][9][15]

Step 4: Rice Cooker

Once your rice is growing, build a Rice Cooker. It needs Rice, Water and some fuel, and it combines the weights of the Cooked Rice in the output slot automatically. This pack changes the Rice Cooker recipe, so use the in-pack recipe below rather than the mod's default.[8][16]

Step 5: Quality-of-life blocks

Most ingredients have a weight, and you can combine them in a crafting table. The Cooler Box does this automatically: put the ingredients inside and they merge. If two ingredients won't combine, the result is probably over the maximum amount.[4][7]

What the Seaweed On A Stick does is not confirmed here. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How does Sushi Go Crafting work?

8 parts

Sushi Go Crafting is a food mod with a small discovery minigame. You combine ingredients into sushi, and if you hit the perfect combination you get better food and effects. Every ingredient carries an effect or a modifier, and they all get combined into the roll, so eating it gives you more than just hunger and saturation.[1]

Ingredient weights

Most ingredients in this mod are processed foods with a weight attached. You can merge stacks of the same ingredient in a crafting table to combine their weights. If two ingredients refuse to combine, the result would probably go over the maximum amount.[4]

Weight matters because the Roller works with specific amounts of each ingredient, and it tells you how close you are to the perfect weight. Keeping your ingredients combined and organized saves you a lot of fiddling later.[4][5]

Cooler Box: automatic weight combining

The Cooler Box is the mod's automation option for weights. Put weighted ingredients inside and it combines them for you, so you don't have to merge them by hand in a crafting table.[4][7]

Cutting Board and Cleaver Knife

Chopping is a core step in the cooking chain. You do it on a Cutting Board using a Cleaver Knife.[6]

  1. Right-click the Cutting Board with your ingredients to place them on it.[6]
  2. Right-click the placed ingredients with a Cleaver Knife to chop them up.[6]
  3. To take ingredients back off the board, Sneak + Right-click the Cutting Board.[6]
Tip: Chop while you have the Steady Hands effect. It increases the amount you get from chopping on the Cutting Board, giving extra weight in your ingredients.[6][9][15]

Rice Cooker

The Rice Cooker is the machine that turns rice into Cooked Rice. It needs Rice, Water and some fuel to run. You don't need to worry about weights in the output slot, because the Cooked Rice is combined there automatically.[8]

Your rice supply comes from farming. Most of the mod's crops grow like normal crops, but Rice has to be grown underwater on dirt. You get the seeds by breaking grass.[12]

Watch out: This pack changed the Rice Cooker's crafting recipe, so check the recipe below rather than any recipe from the original mod.[16]

Nori: piston crafting

Nori Sheets come from an in-world piston mechanic, not a machine. Find Kelp in the ocean and turn it into a Dried Kelp Block. Drop the Dried Kelp Block as an item, then squish it with a piston against an Iron Block to get Nori Sheets.[13]

The Roller and perfect rolls

The Roller is the most important tool for making sushi, and it is where the discovery minigame happens. You'll need to experiment with it to get the best food.[5]

  1. Select the type of sushi you want to make.[5]
  2. Place your ingredients in the correct slots.[5]
  3. Select how much of each ingredient you want to use.[5]
  4. Left-click the Roller a bunch of times to finish your sushi.[5]

After you make a roll, its tooltip shows how far you were from the perfect weight. A perfect roll gives better food values and effects. You don't have to memorize anything, because the Roller shows you the perfect weights you've already discovered.[5]

The sushi types you can make are Maki, Gunkan, California, Nigiri, Onigiri and Temaki.[1]

Ingredient effects

Most ingredients either give an effect or act as a modifier that changes or amplifies the effects of other ingredients. Using different ingredients in a type of sushi gives you different effects. Some of the effects you can get:[4][9]

  • Small Bites: when you eat with this effect, you have a small chance of getting the food back instead of consuming it.[9][15]
  • Acquired Taste: gives extra nutrition and saturation when you eat food.[9][15]
  • Steady Hands: increases what you get from chopping on the Cutting Board.[9][15]

Unverified The sources don't explain whether the Rice Cooker, Cooler Box or Fermentation Barrel accept items or fluids from hoppers, pipes or other mods' automation, so test it in your own world before building around it.

How do you progress through Sushi Go Crafting?

8 parts

Sushi Go Crafting is a deep food mod built around sushi. Its gear is made at a regular crafting table, and the real progression is learning how to process ingredients and roll better and better sushi.[3][16]

Unverified No quests in this pack cover this mod, and the sources don't describe an official tier system. The order below is a suggested path based on what each station does, not a guided progression.

Step 1: Gather your raw ingredients

Before you touch any stations, stock up on food from the world. Most of it comes from exploring and farming rather than crafting.[10][11][12][13][14]

  • Break grass to get seeds. Most crops grow like normal crops, but Rice has to be grown underwater on dirt.[12]
  • Avocado trees spawn mostly in plains. Right click the leaves to harvest an avocado once it's fully grown.[10]
  • Tuna and Shrimp live in the ocean. The guide hints that you should bring a saddle.[11]
  • Tobiko drops when you kill fish.[14]
  • For Nori Sheets, make a Dried Kelp Block from ocean kelp. Drop it as an item and squish it against an Iron Block with a piston.[13]

Step 2: Chopping with the Cutting Board

Your first real station is the Cutting Board, and you'll use it with a Cleaver Knife. Right click the board to place an ingredient on it, then right click with the Cleaver Knife to chop it up. Sneak + right click the board to take ingredients back off.[6]

Tip: Try to chop while you have the Steady Hands effect. It gives your ingredients extra weight when you use a cutting board.[6][9]

Step 3: Cooking rice with the Rice Cooker

Next, grab the Rice Cooker. The pack changed its recipe, so use the in-pack version below rather than any default recipe you've seen elsewhere. To run it, you need Rice, Water and some fuel. Cooked Rice combines automatically in the output slot, so you don't need to manage its weight.[8][16]

Step 4: Rolling sushi with the Roller

Step 5: Automating weights with the Cooler Box

Most ingredients have a weight, and you can combine weights in the crafting table. If ingredients won't combine, the total is probably over the max amount. Once you get tired of doing it by hand, place ingredients in a Cooler Box and it combines them automatically.[4][7]

The endgame: chasing the best effects

Once your stations are running, the goal is better sushi. Most ingredients carry an effect or an effect modifier that changes or amplifies the effects of other ingredients. Mixing different ingredients in a sushi gives you different effects.[4][9]

  • Small Bites: eating with this effect gives you a small chance of not consuming the item.[9]
  • Acquired Taste: eating with this effect gives you extra food.[9]
  • Steady Hands: using a cutting board with this effect gives extra weight to your ingredients.[9]

How does Sushi Go Crafting work with other mods?

1 part

Sushi Go Crafting is mostly self-contained: it's a food mod where you make sushi through a small discovery minigame to get the perfect food and some great food effects. Its links to other mods come mainly from what it's built on and what it plays nicely with.[1]

Mods it relies on

Unverified No in-pack recipes or quests could be found that combine Sushi Go Crafting items with items from other mods, so there are no confirmed cross-mod crafting or questing links to show here.

What changed in Sushi Go Crafting between versions?
