StevesCarts2 is a mod in All the Mods 10 8.3, where it is version 1.2.18. I like trains. (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

What is StevesCarts2?

1 part

StevesCarts2 is all about upgrading your minecarts. The pack's own quest book says the upgrades cover pretty much everything but the kitchen sink, from drills to guns to arcade machines. If you want carts that do far more than ride the rails, this mod is for you.[1]

All the Mods 10 8.1 includes StevesCarts2 version 1.2.18, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier.[2]

Where it fits in progression

StevesCarts2 isn't just a side hobby in this pack. Its quests sit in Chapter 3: The ATM Star, the questline that leads toward the ATM Star.[1]

  1. First up is the "Steve's Carts" quest quest, which asks you to get Component Stabilized Metal.[1]
  2. After that comes "Galadorian Drills" quest, which asks for Module Galgadorian Drill. The quest calls it the greatest drill you can attach to your carts.[1]
Tip: Because the drill is so powerful, it's also harder to craft. The quest warns that you'll need a lot of Component Stabilized Metal, so start stockpiling it early and follow the recipes.[1]

Unverified This section doesn't cover how Stabilized Metal and the Galgadorian Drill are crafted in this pack, or exactly how these quests feed into the final ATM Star recipe. Check the recipe viewer and the quest book in-game. This site does hold All the Mods 10's own recipes, read from the pack itself: look the item up in the item browser.

How do you get started with StevesCarts2?

3 parts

Steve's Carts is all about upgrading your minecarts. The pack's own quest promises pretty much everything but the kitchen sink: drills, guns and even arcade machines you can bolt onto a cart. Here's a sensible order to get rolling in this pack.[1]

First: build a Cart Assembler

Your first real target is the Cart Assembler, the block where your carts get put together. The pack has changed its recipe, so follow the recipe below rather than an old video or wiki page. It needs at least one component from this mod, so check the recipe and craft any missing pieces first.[3][4]

Once it's placed, pay attention to the assembler's messages. Each hull has a limited capacity and a complexity cap, so you'll get an error if your total cost is too high or a module is too complex for that hull. It also warns you when a module needs another module to work, when two modules won't work together, and when two modules clash on the same side of the cart.[4]

Tip: The mod's descriptions also mention ways to power the Cart Assembler with lava in an internal tank and to connect the Assembler with a Manager. Both are worth exploring once your first cart is running.[4]

Unverified The available sources don't confirm which items add these Cart Assembler effects.

Next: Stabilized Metal for the first quest

In this pack, Steve's Carts shows up in the questline under Chapter 3: The ATM Star. The entry quest, "Steve's Carts" quest, asks you to make Component Stabilized Metal. The pack changed that recipe too, so check it here.[1][3]

Then: work toward the Galgadorian Drill

Next comes "Galadorian Drills" quest, which follows the first quest and asks for the Module Galgadorian Drill. The quest calls it the greatest drill you can attach to a cart. It also warns that it's harder to craft and that you'll need a lot of Stabilized Metal, so start stockpiling now![1]

The pack has changed the Galgadorian Drill recipe as well. It builds on the Module Hardened Drill, so plan to make that drill first.[3]

How does StevesCarts2 work?

5 parts

Steve's Carts works differently from a normal minecart mod. You don't craft a finished cart. You build it in the Cart Assembler by putting modules onto a hull. The assembler takes time to add each module and to finish the cart, and it can also take modules off again. Most of this system comes down to what a hull can carry and which modules work together.[4]

Hulls and module limits

Every hull sets hard limits on the cart you can build on it. If a design breaks one of these rules, the assembler shows an error that tells you exactly what's wrong. That makes it pretty easy to find the problem.[4]

  • Modular capacity: each hull has a capacity, and your modules add up to a cost. If the total cost is higher than the hull's capacity, the cart can't be built.[4]
  • Complexity cap: each hull has a module complexity cap. A module that goes over it is too complex for that hull.[4]
  • Engine and addon limits: each hull has a maximum number of engines and a maximum number of addons.[4]
  • Duplicates: some modules can't be added twice. Others clearly say that duplicates are allowed.[4]
  • Parent modules: some modules need another module on the cart to work, and the assembler tells you which one is missing.[4]
  • Conflicts: some modules won't work with certain other modules. Conflicts can apply to whole groups, such as Wood Cutters, Entity Detectors, Shooters, or Tools or Shooters.[4]
  • Sides: many modules take up one or more sides of the cart, and two modules that need the same side clash. Some modules don't take up any sides at all, so they're easy to fit in.[4]
Tip: Module tooltips have a key you can hold for more info. Check it before you commit to a design. It shows which sides a module uses and what it conflicts with, so you avoid surprises in the assembler.[4]

The Cart Assembler

The Cart Assembler is the heart of the mod, so it's usually the first machine you build. All the Mods 10 changed its recipe from the mod default. Use the recipe shown here and not an older guide.[3]

Your assembler can get extra effects that change how it works. Each effect is shown on its item's tooltip, together with its exact values.[4]

  • Timing and efficiency: effects can change how long it takes to add a module, finish a cart or remove a module. Some also change the overall assembling efficiency.[4]
  • Disassembly: one effect lets you take carts apart and modify them. Another lets the assembler pick up carts so you can modify them.[4]
  • Deployment: one effect lets the assembler deploy finished carts.[4]
  • Blueprints: one effect turns on Blueprint carts.[4]
  • Automation: effects can add redstone-controlled assembling, an input chest with extra slots, or a bridge that connects the assembler to a Manager.[4]

Powering the assembler

The assembler needs power to build carts, and you have several ways to supply it. One effect lets it use standard fuel sources. Another generates power while it's in the sun. A generator effect produces a set amount of power per minute, and a thermal option runs it on lava stored in an internal tank.[4]

Rails and logistics blocks

Steve's Carts adds special rails and management blocks for running carts in a real setup. They are the Junction Rail, Advanced Detector Rail, Cargo Manager, Liquid Manager, External Distributor and Module Toggler. In this pack, the Junction Rail, Liquid Manager, External Distributor and Module Toggler use changed recipes. The Advanced Detector Rail and Cargo Manager use the mod's own recipes.[3]

Information Provider addon

The Information Provider addon shows your cart's position as X, Y and Z coordinates. It also reports on tool repair: it tells you when a tool is being repaired, and when the tool isn't damaged so you should take the repair material back out.[4]

Unverified I couldn't confirm the details of how the Cargo Manager, Liquid Manager, External Distributor, Module Toggler, Junction Rail and Advanced Detector Rail work, such as how they move items or fluids and how they respond to redstone. The same goes for how the assembler effects are applied, for example whether they come from upgrade items made from the Blank Upgrade component. Check these in game before you plan an automated setup around them.

How do you progress through StevesCarts2?

5 parts

In this pack, Steve's Carts has its own small quest line in "Steve's Carts" quest, part of Chapter 3: The ATM Star. It's only two quests long. The first asks you to make a Component Stabilized Metal. The second, "Galadorian Drills" quest, unlocks after it and asks for a Module Galgadorian Drill. That gives you a clear goal: work up through the metals until you can build the best drill you can put on a cart.[1]

Getting started

The pack changed a lot of this mod's recipes, including the Cart Assembler. Many of those changed recipes use the Component Simple Pcb, so it's worth learning that one early. You'll see it again in parts like the Component Advanced Pcb.[3]

First quest: Stabilized Metal

The "Steve's Carts" quest quest completes when you have a Component Stabilized Metal. The pack changed this recipe too, so follow the recipes shown here rather than an older guide. Work through the chain in this order:[1][3]

  1. Craft a Component Raw Hardener.[3]
  2. Turn it into a Component Refined Hardener, which the next two recipes need.[3]
  3. Craft a Component Hardened Mesh.[3]
  4. Craft the Component Stabilized Metal to finish the quest.[3]

The Galgadorian tier

Stabilized Metal isn't only a quest item. It's the gateway to the Galgadorian tier, because the Component Lump Of Galgador is crafted from it. You'll also need an Component Eye Of Galgador, and you can combine lumps into a Component Large Lump Of Galgador.[3]

Final quest: the Galgadorian Drill

The quest calls Galgadorian Drills the greatest drills you can attach to your carts, and warns that you'll need a lot of Stabilized Metal to get there. The pack changed this recipe. It upgrades a Module Hardened Drill, so the Hardened Drill you use along the way becomes part of your final drill.[1][3]

How does StevesCarts2 work with other mods?

2 parts

In this pack, Steve's Carts has one main tie-in with the rest of the modpack, and it's a big one. Your top-tier mining module, the Module Galgadorian Drill, isn't only a cart upgrade: the pack also uses it in the endgame progression.[1][3]

The Oblivion Shard

All the Mods 10 adds its own shaped recipe for the Oblivion Shard, and the Galgadorian Drill module is one of its ingredients. This is not a default recipe from any single mod. The pack added it, and it combines items from several different mods, such as the Void Forge, Blood, Eternal Stella and the Snow Queen Trophy. So if you're working toward the shard, you'll need to build at least one Galgadorian Drill.[3]

Pack-added recipe that uses the Galgadorian Drill module

Quests that guide you there

The questbook points you along this path in "Chapter 3: The ATM Star". It starts with "Steve's Carts" quest, which asks you to get Component Stabilized Metal. It introduces the mod as a way to upgrade your carts with everything from drills to guns to arcade machines.[1]

Once that's done, "Galadorian Drills" quest unlocks and asks you for the Galgadorian Drill module itself. The quest calls it the greatest drill you can attach to your carts. It also warns you that it's harder to craft and that you'll need a lot of Stabilized Metal.[1]

Tip: Start stockpiling Stabilized Metal early. You need it for the first Steve's Carts quest, and the Galgadorian Drills quest says the drill takes a lot more of it.[1]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use StevesCarts2?

1 part

StevesCarts2 shows up in the quest book in one chapter, Chapter 3: The ATM Star. It has two quests there, and you do them in order: the first one gets you into the mod, and the second one points you at its best drill.[1]

Chapter 3: The ATM Star

  1. "Steve's Carts" quest is where you start. To complete it, you need to get Component Stabilized Metal. The quest sums up the mod nicely: it's all about upgrading your carts with pretty much anything, from drills to guns to arcade machines.[1]
  2. "Galadorian Drills" quest unlocks once you've finished Steve's Carts. This time you need Module Galgadorian Drill, which the quest calls the greatest drill you can attach to your carts.[1]
Tip: The Galgadorian Drill quest warns that the drill is harder to craft and that you'll need a lot of Stabilized Metal. So once you've got the first quest done, don't stop at one piece of Component Stabilized Metal. Keep making more, and follow the recipes in the pack.[1]

Unverified Because these quests sit in Chapter 3: The ATM Star, the Galgadorian Drill might be part of the path toward the ATM Star. The quest data doesn't confirm this, so check the chapter in your quest book to see what it leads into.

What changed in StevesCarts2 between versions?

1 part

StevesCarts2 has been part of All the Mods 10 for a long time. It was first included in All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier, so it has been around since the pack's early days.[2]

Updates across pack releases

  • All the Mods 10 4.0 updated StevesCarts2 from 1.2.13 to 1.2.16.[5]
  • All the Mods 10 5.5 updated StevesCarts2 from 1.2.16 to 1.2.18.[6]
  • All the Mods 10 8.1 ships StevesCarts2 1.2.18 in the file stevescarts-1.21-1.2.18-neoforge.jar, so this is the version this guide covers.[2]

If you're on All the Mods 10 8.1, you're running StevesCarts2 1.2.18, the same version the pack moved to back in 5.5. If you've carried a world forward from an older pack version, keep in mind that the mod went from 1.2.13 to 1.2.16 in 4.0 and then to 1.2.18 in 5.5.[2][5][6]

Unverified What actually changed inside StevesCarts2 between these versions (new modules, bug fixes or balance changes) can't be confirmed here, because no mod changelogs are available for the shipped files. Check the mod's own release notes if you need the details.
