What is FTB Ultimine?

FTB Ultimine is part of this pack. This pack ships version 2100.1.0, using the NeoForge build (ftb-ultimine-neoforge-2100.1.0.jar).[1]

It isn't a new addition. It was already in the pack in 0.32 or earlier, so it has been part of the pack for several releases.[1]

Unverified The sources I have don't describe what FTB Ultimine does in this pack, so I can't confirm its mechanics, keybinds, config options or any pack-specific changes. Check the in-game controls and config screen yourself before relying on any of that.

Unverified Where it fits in progression is unconfirmed. No quests involving this mod were found, and it doesn't appear to be on the ATM Star quest path. I haven't found anything in the sources that says it gates or unlocks other content.

How do you get started with FTB Ultimine?

2 parts

FTB Ultimine lets you break or modify a whole group of blocks in one go instead of one at a time. Here is what you need to know before you start, based on the mod's own in-game descriptions.[2]

Your first steps

  1. Get a damageable tool in your hands. By default the server setting requires you to have a damageable tool equipped, or an item from the ftbultimine:tools item tag, before Ultimine will work.[2]
  2. Hold the Ultimine key and break a block. The whole connected group can be broken in one operation, up to the server's maximum block count.[2]
  3. Open the shape menu by holding the Ultimine key. The client setting that controls whether you also need to sneak is called require sneak for menu. When you hold the key and sneak together, the menu shows the shape names above and below the one you have selected.[2]
  4. Pick a shape. Shapeless mode and the shaped modes each have their own list of tags that decide which blocks count as matches for the block you dug first.[2]

Limits to know about

Ultimine has a cooldown, measured in ticks, between successive uses. It also has a maximum number of blocks it can break or modify per operation. If FTB Ranks is installed, its ftbultimine.ultimine_cooldown and ftbultimine.max_blocks nodes take priority over those server settings. Server owners can therefore set different limits per player.[2]

Ultimine also stops when your tool is nearly broken. It halts once the equipped tool has the configured amount of damage or less remaining, and setting that value to 0 lets tools break. Keep an eye on durability on long mining runs.[2]

Tip: If Ultimine seems to skip blocks or stop partway, check two advanced server settings. One decides whether digging stops when it hits unbreakable blocks or just skips them. The other sets an experience cost per block, which can be a fractional amount.[2]

Unverified I could not confirm any in-pack recipes, quests or a dedicated Ultimine item for getting started, so there is no recipe to show here. The mod's tooltip mentions an Ultiminer item that enables Ultimine when active, but how you obtain it in this pack is unverified. The default values for the cooldown, maximum blocks and tool protection in this pack are also unverified.

How does FTB Ultimine work?

3 parts

The sources for FTB Ultimine don't describe any machines, multiblocks, or power, fluid and item handling. What they do explain is how it lets you break or modify many blocks in one operation, through its settings tooltips. So this section is short and covers those.[2]

Opening the shape menu

Pressing the Ultimine key relates to the shapes menu. A client setting decides whether you also have to sneak for the menu to appear. When you hold the Ultimine key and sneak together, the menu lists shape names above and below the selected shape. Another client setting controls how many names are shown on each side.[2]

What limits an Ultimine

The server settings set the rules for each operation. Here is what the tooltips say:[2]

  • Maximum blocks: caps how many blocks can be broken or modified in one operation. If FTB Ranks is installed, its 'ftbultimine.max_blocks' node takes priority when present.[2]
  • Cooldown: the time in ticks required between successive uses of Ultimine. If FTB Ranks is installed, its 'ftbultimine.ultimine_cooldown' node takes priority when present.[2]
  • Tool requirement: you need a damageable tool equipped, or an item in the 'ftbultimine:tools' item tag.[2]
  • Tool protection: Ultimining stops when the equipped tool has this much damage or less remaining. Setting it to 0 allows tools to break.[2]
  • Experience per block: a setting for experience per block, which can be a fractional amount.[2]
  • Cancel on block break fail: an advanced setting. When on, digging stops if unbreakable blocks are encountered, instead of skipping over those blocks.[2]

Which blocks count as matching

Two tag-based settings decide which blocks can be Ultimined along with the one you first dug. One applies to shapeless digging mode and the other to shaped digging modes. In both, blocks in the listed tags that match the original dug block are valid candidates. For shaped modes, the tooltip says the default of '*' means any block is a valid candidate.[2]

Unverified The pack's actual values for max blocks, cooldown, tool protection, experience per block and the merge tags could not be confirmed, because no config files for this mod are available. Check them in-game before relying on any number.
