What is Crafting Tweaks?
2 parts
Crafting Tweaks is a small quality-of-life mod that makes crafting grids a lot less fiddly. It adds buttons to crafting tables so you can rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single click. That saves you from dragging items around slot by slot.[1]
This pack includes Crafting Tweaks version 21.1.5. It isn't limited to the vanilla table either: it supports many modded crafting tables, so the same buttons turn up in plenty of the crafting screens you'll use.[1][2]
What it lets you do
- Rotate the outer ring of the crafting grid, which is handy when a recipe needs the same pattern turned around.[1]
- Balance the materials in the grid so every slot has an even stack size. Hold Shift on the balance button to spread a single stack across the entire grid.[1]
- Clear the whole crafting grid back into your inventory in one go.[1]
- Hold the W key while clicking items to move them into the grid, or use Shift+W to move every item of that type.[1]
- Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once.[1]
- Use a keybind to compress items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe, or to decompress blocks back into their ingot forms.[1]
Who it's for
If you do a lot of hand crafting, and in a big modded pack you will, this mod is for you. It adds shortcuts to crafting screens you already use, so there's nothing extra to build before you can start using it.[1]
How do you get started with Crafting Tweaks?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.6 guide
Crafting Tweaks doesn't give you a shopping list of new items. Instead, it adds buttons to many supported crafting tables so you can quickly rotate, balance or clear the crafting grid. Getting started here means learning what those buttons and shortcuts do, not crafting anything first.[1]
The mod works with lots of modded crafting tables, not just the vanilla one. So once you learn these tricks on a regular crafting table, you can use them on many other tables too.[1]
Your first few minutes with it
- Open a crafting table and look for the extra buttons next to the grid. These are how you use the mod.[1]
- Use the rotate button to spin the outer circle of the crafting grid. This helps when a recipe is placed correctly but facing the wrong way.[1]
- Use the balance button to spread your materials evenly so every slot has the same stack size. Hold shift while pressing it to spread a single stack across the whole grid.[1]
- Use the clear button to move everything in the grid back into your inventory.[1]
- Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once instead of clicking over and over.[1]
- To move items into the grid, hold the W key while clicking them. Shift plus W moves all items of that type.[1]
- Try the compress keybind. It turns stacks of items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe results, for example ingots into blocks, and it can also decompress them.[1]
Settings worth knowing about
- The mode setting decides how you use the mod: DEFAULT turns on both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS gives buttons only, HOTKEYS gives hotkeys only, and DISABLED turns everything off.[3]
- Hide Vanilla Crafting Guide hides the vanilla crafting book button instead of moving it. Handy if you use JEI for recipes anyway.[3]
- A client setting controls whether right-clicking the result slot in a crafting table crafts a full stack.[3]
- The compress key skips any items on a denylist of modid:name entries. If compressing does nothing on a certain item, this list may be why.[3]
- By default, compress and decompress only work inside crafting screens. A setting lets them work outside crafting screens as well, but only in the player inventory and only if the mod is installed on the server.[3]
- You can list mod ids to turn off Crafting Tweaks support for specific mods if their crafting tables act strangely.[3]
The mod is bi-optional: only the players who want it need to install it, and it still works for them if the server doesn't have it. It requires the Balm library alongside it.[1]
Unverified The sources don't confirm the values All the Mods 10 6.6 uses for these settings, such as the mode or the right-click stack crafting option, or whether the pack changes the default keybinds. If a button or key doesn't do what's described here, check your Controls menu and the Crafting Tweaks config in your own install.
How does Crafting Tweaks work?
5 parts
Crafting Tweaks doesn't add machines, multiblocks, power or pipes. Its whole job is making the crafting grid faster to use. It adds buttons to many supported crafting tables, including modded ones, so you can rotate, balance or clear the grid instantly. It also adds a few hotkeys for moving and compressing items.[1]
The crafting grid buttons
When you open a supported crafting table, you get a small set of buttons next to the grid. Each one reshuffles what's already in the grid, so you don't have to drag items around by hand.[1]
- Rotate moves the outer circle of the crafting grid around, which is handy when you placed a recipe the wrong way round.[1]
- Balance evens out the materials in the grid so every slot ends up with the same stack size, perfect when you want to craft as many copies as possible.[1]
- Hold shift while clicking the balance button and a single stack gets spread over the entire grid instead.[1]
- Clear empties the crafting grid back into your inventory in one click.[1]
There's also a force-clear action, and its tooltip warns that it drops items if necessary. That means if your inventory can't hold everything, some items may end up on the floor.[3]
Unverified Exactly how you trigger force clear instead of a normal clear isn't confirmed here.
Hotkeys and quick crafting
You can push items into the grid without dragging them. Hold the W key while clicking an item to transfer it into the grid, or hold Shift+W to transfer every item of that type at once.[1]
In this pack, right-clicking the result slot of a crafting table crafts a full stack instead of a single craft. This is controlled by client.rightClickCraftsStack, which the pack has turned on.[1][3][4]
Compressing and decompressing
The compress keybind is one of the most useful parts of the mod. Press it and a stack of items gets crafted into its 3x3 or 2x2 recipe, like turning ingots into blocks. There's a decompress version too, which turns blocks back into ingots.[1]
In this pack, common.compressRequiresCraftingGrid is set to true. So compressing and decompressing only work while you have a crafting GUI open, not from your normal inventory screen.[4]
The pack also keeps a short denylist in common.compressDenylist. The compress key will never craft Sandstone or Iron Trapdoor, so pressing it on sand or iron ingots won't quietly eat them into those blocks.[3][4]
How the pack sets it up
- client.mode is set to DEFAULT, so both the buttons and the hotkeys are active. The other options are BUTTONS for buttons only, HOTKEYS for hotkeys only, or DISABLED to turn the mod off completely.[4]
- client.hideVanillaCraftingGuide is false, so the vanilla crafting book button gets moved out of the way instead of being hidden.[4]
- client.disabledAddons is empty in this pack, so no mod has its Crafting Tweaks support switched off. You can add mod ids there if a particular crafting table's buttons get in your way.[3][4]
Client or server?
Crafting Tweaks is bi-optional. Only players who want it need to install it, and it still works for you even if the server doesn't have it. It needs the Balm library installed alongside it.[1]
The exception is compressing outside crafting GUIs. Using the (de)compress feature in your player inventory only works when the mod is installed on the server.[4]
Which Crafting Tweaks config options matter?
2 parts
Everything for Crafting Tweaks lives in one file, and it is short. The options split into client settings, which control the buttons and hotkeys you see, and common settings, which control the compress/decompress key. Here is exactly how the pack ships them.[4]
How you interact with the grid
The pack leaves client.mode on DEFAULT, which enables both the on-screen buttons and the hotkeys. If you only want one or the other, the option accepts BUTTONS for buttons only, HOTKEYS for hotkeys only, and DISABLED to switch the mod off completely.[4]
client.rightClickCraftsStack is true in the pack, so right-clicking the result slot of a crafting table crafts a full stack instead of a single item. Turn it off if you keep making more than you meant to.[1][4]
client.hideVanillaCraftingGuide is false here, so vanilla's recipe book button stays visible next to the Crafting Tweaks buttons. Setting it to true hides that button rather than moving it, which is handy if you only ever use JEI.[4]
client.disabledAddons is an empty list in the pack, meaning Crafting Tweaks support is active for every mod it recognises. Add mod ids to that list if a particular modded crafting table's buttons get in your way.[1][4]
The compress key
common.compressRequiresCraftingGrid is true in the pack, so the compress and decompress keybind only works while you have a crafting GUI open. Setting it to false lets it work from your plain inventory, but that only works if the mod is installed on the server as well.[1][4]
common.compressDenylist holds two entries in the pack: Sandstone and Iron Trapdoor. Those two will never be produced by the compress key, which stops a stack of sand or iron ingots turning into something you did not want mid-build. Add your own modid:name entries if another recipe keeps hijacking the key.[4]
