What is Crafting Tweaks?

2 parts

Crafting Tweaks is a small quality-of-life mod that makes crafting grids much less fiddly. It adds buttons to many supported crafting tables, including modded ones, so you can rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single click instead of dragging items around by hand.[1]

All the Mods 10 6.6 ships Crafting Tweaks version 21.1.7, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier. It's already installed, so you can use it the moment you open a crafting grid.[2]

What it lets you do

  • Rotate the outer ring of items in the crafting grid.[1]
  • Balance the materials in the grid to even stack sizes. Hold shift on the balance button to spread a single stack across the whole grid.[1]
  • Clear the whole grid back into your inventory.[1]
  • Hold the W key while clicking items to move them into the grid. Shift+W moves every item of that type.[1]
  • Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once.[1]
  • Use a keybind to compress items into their 3x3 or 2x2 block form, or decompress them back into ingots.[1]

Who it's for

This mod is for anyone who crafts by hand, which in a big kitchen-sink pack is everyone. Crafting Tweaks adds no items or machines to work through. It just speeds up the crafting you already do, so it's handy from your first crafting table all the way to the late game.[1]

Tip: The compress keybind is great for tidying up after a mining trip. Instead of filling the grid by hand, press one key to turn loose ingots or gems into their block form.[1]

How do you get started with Crafting Tweaks?

2 parts

Crafting Tweaks doesn't give you a shopping list of new items. Instead, it adds buttons to many supported crafting tables so you can quickly rotate, balance or clear the crafting grid. Getting started here means learning what those buttons and shortcuts do, not crafting anything first.[1]

The mod works with lots of modded crafting tables, not just the vanilla one. So once you learn these tricks on a regular crafting table, you can use them on many other tables too.[1]

Your first few minutes with it

  1. Open a crafting table and look for the extra buttons next to the grid. These are how you use the mod.[1]
  2. Use the rotate button to spin the outer circle of the crafting grid. This helps when a recipe is placed correctly but facing the wrong way.[1]
  3. Use the balance button to spread your materials evenly so every slot has the same stack size. Hold shift while pressing it to spread a single stack across the whole grid.[1]
  4. Use the clear button to move everything in the grid back into your inventory.[1]
  5. Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once instead of clicking over and over.[1]
  6. To move items into the grid, hold the W key while clicking them. Shift plus W moves all items of that type.[1]
  7. Try the compress keybind. It turns stacks of items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe results, for example ingots into blocks, and it can also decompress them.[1]
Watch out: One of the clear functions has a tooltip saying it drops items if necessary. If your inventory is full, check the ground after you clear a grid so you don't lose anything.[3]

Settings worth knowing about

  • The mode setting decides how you use the mod: DEFAULT turns on both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS gives buttons only, HOTKEYS gives hotkeys only, and DISABLED turns everything off.[3]
  • Hide Vanilla Crafting Guide hides the vanilla crafting book button instead of moving it. Handy if you use JEI for recipes anyway.[3]
  • A client setting controls whether right-clicking the result slot in a crafting table crafts a full stack.[3]
  • The compress key skips any items on a denylist of modid:name entries. If compressing does nothing on a certain item, this list may be why.[3]
  • By default, compress and decompress only work inside crafting screens. A setting lets them work outside crafting screens as well, but only in the player inventory and only if the mod is installed on the server.[3]
  • You can list mod ids to turn off Crafting Tweaks support for specific mods if their crafting tables act strangely.[3]

The mod is bi-optional: only the players who want it need to install it, and it still works for them if the server doesn't have it. It requires the Balm library alongside it.[1]

Unverified The sources don't confirm the values All the Mods 10 6.6 uses for these settings, such as the mode or the right-click stack crafting option, or whether the pack changes the default keybinds. If a button or key doesn't do what's described here, check your Controls menu and the Crafting Tweaks config in your own install.

How does Crafting Tweaks work?

5 parts

Crafting Tweaks focuses entirely on the crafting grid. It adds buttons to many supported crafting tables so you can rotate, balance or clear the grid with one click. It also adds a few shortcuts that save a lot of clicking when you craft big batches.[1]

The grid buttons

The buttons sit next to the crafting grid of supported crafting tables. The mod supports many modded crafting tables as well as the vanilla one, so you'll often see the same buttons on other mods' workbenches.[1]

  • Rotate moves the items around the outer circle of the crafting grid. This is handy when you placed a recipe the wrong way around.[1]
  • Balance evens out the materials in the grid so the stacks have equal sizes. That way you don't run out of one ingredient early.[1]
  • Hold shift while pressing the balance button to spread a single stack over the entire grid.[1]
  • Clear sends everything in the crafting grid back into your inventory.[1]
  • There is also a force-clear action whose tooltip warns that it drops items if necessary. Expect items to land on the ground if they don't fit in your inventory.[3]

Unverified The sources don't explain how you trigger the force-clear action compared with a normal clear. They also don't list which crafting tables in All the Mods 10 get the buttons.

Faster crafting and moving items

  • Right-click the result slot of a crafting table to craft a full stack at once instead of one craft at a time. A client option turns this right-click behaviour on or off.[1][3]
  • To move items into the grid, hold the W key while clicking them. Hold Shift+W while clicking to transfer all items of that type.[1]

Compressing and decompressing

Crafting Tweaks has a keybind that compresses a stack of items into its 3x3 or 2x2 recipe with a single key press. The same feature also works in reverse, so you can quickly turn blocks back into their ingot forms.[1]

The mod keeps a denylist of modid:name entries that the compress key will never craft. That's useful for keeping specific items from being compressed by accident.[3]

Watch out: By default the compress and decompress feature is tied to crafting GUIs. An option lets it work outside of them, but only in your player inventory and only when Crafting Tweaks is also installed on the server.[3]

Buttons, hotkeys and client options

You pick how the mod works for you with a mode setting. DEFAULT gives you both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS gives you buttons only, HOTKEYS gives you hotkeys only, and DISABLED turns the mod off completely.[3]

  • Hide Vanilla Crafting Guide hides the vanilla crafting book button entirely, instead of just moving it out of the way of the Crafting Tweaks buttons.[3]
  • A disabled-addons list lets you enter the mod ids of mods whose crafting tables should not get Crafting Tweaks support.[3]

Unverified No Crafting Tweaks config files ship with this pack, so it's unconfirmed which mode, right-click crafting setting, denylist entries or other option values All the Mods 10 6.6 actually uses.

Multiplayer

Crafting Tweaks is bi-optional. Only the players who want it need it installed, and it still works for you even if the server doesn't have it. The mod needs Balm installed alongside it.[1]

What changed in Crafting Tweaks between versions?

Crafting Tweaks has been in All the Mods 10 since version 2.3 or earlier, and All the Mods 10 6.6 ships version 21.1.7 of it. The pack changelogs only record version bumps for this mod, so there's a short trail to follow.[2]

  • All the Mods 10 4.5: Crafting Tweaks updated from 21.1.5 to 21.1.6.[4]
  • All the Mods 10 5.5: Crafting Tweaks updated from 21.1.6 to 21.1.7.[5]
  • All the Mods 10 6.6: still on 21.1.7, using the file craftingtweaks-neoforge-1.21.1-21.1.7.jar.[2]

Unverified What actually changed inside Crafting Tweaks between 21.1.5, 21.1.6 and 21.1.7 isn't confirmed here, because there are no stored mod changelogs for the shipped jars. Check the mod's own release notes if you need the details.
