What is Crafting Tweaks?
2 parts
Crafting Tweaks is a small quality-of-life mod that makes crafting grids less fiddly. It adds buttons to many supported crafting tables so you can rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single click instead of dragging items around by hand.[1]
This pack includes Crafting Tweaks version 21.1.5. The mod needs the Balm library installed alongside it to run.[1][2]
What it lets you do
- Rotate the outer ring of items in the crafting grid.[1]
- Balance the materials in the grid so the stacks are even, or hold shift on the balance button to spread a single stack across the whole grid.[1]
- Clear the whole grid back into your inventory in one go.[1]
- Move items into the grid by holding W while clicking them, or use Shift+W to move every item of that type.[1]
- Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once.[1]
- Press a keybind to compress items through their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe, or to decompress blocks back into ingots.[1]
Who it's for
If you do a lot of manual crafting, especially bulk crafting or packing ingots into blocks, this mod saves you a lot of clicks. It supports many modded crafting tables, so you can use the same buttons at many different crafting stations.[1]
How do you get started with Crafting Tweaks?
2 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.6 guide
Crafting Tweaks doesn't give you a shopping list of new items. Instead, it adds buttons to many supported crafting tables so you can quickly rotate, balance or clear the crafting grid. Getting started here means learning what those buttons and shortcuts do, not crafting anything first.[1]
The mod works with lots of modded crafting tables, not just the vanilla one. So once you learn these tricks on a regular crafting table, you can use them on many other tables too.[1]
Your first few minutes with it
- Open a crafting table and look for the extra buttons next to the grid. These are how you use the mod.[1]
- Use the rotate button to spin the outer circle of the crafting grid. This helps when a recipe is placed correctly but facing the wrong way.[1]
- Use the balance button to spread your materials evenly so every slot has the same stack size. Hold shift while pressing it to spread a single stack across the whole grid.[1]
- Use the clear button to move everything in the grid back into your inventory.[1]
- Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once instead of clicking over and over.[1]
- To move items into the grid, hold the W key while clicking them. Shift plus W moves all items of that type.[1]
- Try the compress keybind. It turns stacks of items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe results, for example ingots into blocks, and it can also decompress them.[1]
Settings worth knowing about
- The mode setting decides how you use the mod: DEFAULT turns on both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS gives buttons only, HOTKEYS gives hotkeys only, and DISABLED turns everything off.[3]
- Hide Vanilla Crafting Guide hides the vanilla crafting book button instead of moving it. Handy if you use JEI for recipes anyway.[3]
- A client setting controls whether right-clicking the result slot in a crafting table crafts a full stack.[3]
- The compress key skips any items on a denylist of modid:name entries. If compressing does nothing on a certain item, this list may be why.[3]
- By default, compress and decompress only work inside crafting screens. A setting lets them work outside crafting screens as well, but only in the player inventory and only if the mod is installed on the server.[3]
- You can list mod ids to turn off Crafting Tweaks support for specific mods if their crafting tables act strangely.[3]
The mod is bi-optional: only the players who want it need to install it, and it still works for them if the server doesn't have it. It requires the Balm library alongside it.[1]
Unverified The sources don't confirm the values All the Mods 10 6.6 uses for these settings, such as the mode or the right-click stack crafting option, or whether the pack changes the default keybinds. If a button or key doesn't do what's described here, check your Controls menu and the Crafting Tweaks config in your own install.
How does Crafting Tweaks work?
5 parts
Crafting Tweaks is all about making the crafting grid faster to use. Instead of dragging items around one slot at a time, you get buttons on many supported crafting tables that rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single press, plus a few handy shortcuts on top.[1]
The grid buttons
Once the mod is running, supported crafting tables, including many modded ones, show a small set of extra buttons next to the grid. Each one does one job:[1]
- Rotate moves the items around the outer circle of the crafting grid. It's great for fixing a recipe you placed in the wrong orientation.[1]
- Balance evens out the materials in the grid so every occupied slot ends up with an even stack size.[1]
- Holding shift while you press the balance button spreads a single stack across the entire grid instead.[1]
- Clear empties the crafting grid back into your inventory.[1]
There's also a force clear action that will drop items if it has to, so keep that in mind if your inventory is full when you use it.[3]
Shortcuts and keybinds
Beyond the buttons, the mod adds a few quality-of-life controls that speed up bulk crafting quite a bit.[1]
- Hold the W key while clicking items to transfer them into the grid. Use Shift+W to transfer every item of that type.[1]
- Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack in one go. The mod's settings include an option that controls whether right-clicking the result slot in a crafting table crafts a full stack.[1][3]
- A compress keybind instantly turns items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe result, and it can also decompress them again, for example turning ingots into blocks and back.[1]
How compressing works
Compressing uses the item's 3x3 or 2x2 crafting recipe, so it only does what a normal craft could do, just much faster. The mod has a denylist of modid:name entries that the compress key will never craft, which lets specific items be excluded.[1][3]
By default, compressing is tied to crafting screens. The mod has a setting that lets (de)compressing work outside crafting GUIs, but that only works in your player inventory, and only when Crafting Tweaks is also installed on the server.[3]
Client and server
Crafting Tweaks is bi-optional. Only the players who want it need it installed, and it still works for them even if the server doesn't have it. It requires Balm, which has to be installed alongside it.[1]
Controlling how it behaves
The client settings let you choose how the mod shows up. Its mode can be set to DEFAULT for both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS for buttons only, HOTKEYS for hotkeys only, or DISABLED to turn it off completely. You can also add mod ids to a list to disable Crafting Tweaks support for those mods.[3]
There's also an option to hide the vanilla crafting book button instead of just moving it out of the way, which is handy if you rely on JEI for recipe lookups anyway.[3]
Unverified This pack doesn't ship config files for Crafting Tweaks, so which of these options are turned on or changed in the pack couldn't be confirmed. Check the mod's settings in-game if something behaves differently than described here.
Which Crafting Tweaks config options matter?
1 part
Here's the short version: this pack ships Crafting Tweaks without any config files, so there are no pack-side values to tune or compare against mod defaults. Everything the mod does is available out of the box.[1]
That means the settings you'll actually adjust live in your controls, not in a config screen. The mod's features are driven by buttons on supported crafting tables and by keybinds, so bind them to whatever feels comfortable and you're done.[1]
What you can control
- Buttons on supported crafting tables let you rotate the outer ring of the grid, balance the materials into even stack sizes, or clear the whole grid back into your inventory.[1]
- Holding shift while clicking the balance button spreads a single stack across the entire grid instead.[1]
- A keybind compresses and decompresses items into their block or ingot forms using the 3x3 or 2x2 recipe.[1]
- Holding the W key while clicking an item transfers it into the grid, and Shift+W transfers everything of that type.[1]
- Right-clicking the result slot crafts a full stack in one go.[1]
One dependency note worth knowing: the mod needs Balm installed alongside it, so don't remove Balm if you're trimming the pack down.[1]
