What is Crafting Tweaks?

1 part

Crafting Tweaks is a quality-of-life mod that adds a row of small buttons to crafting grids so you can rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single click instead of shuffling items around by hand.[1]

The pack ships Crafting Tweaks 21.1.2, and the mod has been part of the pack since version 0.32 or earlier, so it is there from the moment you load your world.[2]

It works in many modded crafting tables, not just the vanilla one, which is exactly what you want in a kitchen-sink pack where you will be bouncing between different mods' workbenches.[1]

What you actually get

  • Rotate the outer ring of the crafting grid, which is a lifesaver for recipes you got mirrored or turned the wrong way.[1]
  • Balance the materials already in the grid to even stack sizes, and hold shift on that button to spread a single stack across the whole grid.[1]
  • Clear the grid straight back into your inventory in one click.[1]
  • Transfer items into the grid by holding the W key while clicking them, or Shift+W to move everything of that type.[1]
  • Compress or decompress items into their 3x3 or 2x2 block and ingot forms with a keybind.[1]
  • Right-click the result slot to craft an entire stack at once.[1]

Crafting Tweaks depends on Balm, which the pack already includes alongside it.[1][2]

Tip: The mod is bi-optional: only the people who want it need it installed, and it still works client-side even if the server does not have it. That makes it safe to keep on a shared world without forcing it on everyone.[1]

There is no progression gate here. Crafting Tweaks does not add items, blocks or machines to chase, and it is not part of the ATM Star quest line, so treat it purely as a convenience layer that makes every other mod's crafting faster.[1]

How do you get started with Crafting Tweaks?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 6.6 guide

Crafting Tweaks doesn't give you a shopping list of new items. Instead, it adds buttons to many supported crafting tables so you can quickly rotate, balance or clear the crafting grid. Getting started here means learning what those buttons and shortcuts do, not crafting anything first.[1]

The mod works with lots of modded crafting tables, not just the vanilla one. So once you learn these tricks on a regular crafting table, you can use them on many other tables too.[1]

Your first few minutes with it

  1. Open a crafting table and look for the extra buttons next to the grid. These are how you use the mod.[1]
  2. Use the rotate button to spin the outer circle of the crafting grid. This helps when a recipe is placed correctly but facing the wrong way.[1]
  3. Use the balance button to spread your materials evenly so every slot has the same stack size. Hold shift while pressing it to spread a single stack across the whole grid.[1]
  4. Use the clear button to move everything in the grid back into your inventory.[1]
  5. Right-click the result slot to craft a full stack at once instead of clicking over and over.[1]
  6. To move items into the grid, hold the W key while clicking them. Shift plus W moves all items of that type.[1]
  7. Try the compress keybind. It turns stacks of items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe results, for example ingots into blocks, and it can also decompress them.[1]
Watch out: One of the clear functions has a tooltip saying it drops items if necessary. If your inventory is full, check the ground after you clear a grid so you don't lose anything.[3]

Settings worth knowing about

  • The mode setting decides how you use the mod: DEFAULT turns on both buttons and hotkeys, BUTTONS gives buttons only, HOTKEYS gives hotkeys only, and DISABLED turns everything off.[3]
  • Hide Vanilla Crafting Guide hides the vanilla crafting book button instead of moving it. Handy if you use JEI for recipes anyway.[3]
  • A client setting controls whether right-clicking the result slot in a crafting table crafts a full stack.[3]
  • The compress key skips any items on a denylist of modid:name entries. If compressing does nothing on a certain item, this list may be why.[3]
  • By default, compress and decompress only work inside crafting screens. A setting lets them work outside crafting screens as well, but only in the player inventory and only if the mod is installed on the server.[3]
  • You can list mod ids to turn off Crafting Tweaks support for specific mods if their crafting tables act strangely.[3]

The mod is bi-optional: only the players who want it need to install it, and it still works for them if the server doesn't have it. It requires the Balm library alongside it.[1]

Unverified The sources don't confirm the values All the Mods 10 6.6 uses for these settings, such as the mode or the right-click stack crafting option, or whether the pack changes the default keybinds. If a button or key doesn't do what's described here, check your Controls menu and the Crafting Tweaks config in your own install.

How does Crafting Tweaks work?

4 parts

Crafting Tweaks doesn't add machines, multiblocks or power, it's a quality-of-life layer that sits on top of crafting grids you already use. It adds buttons to many supported crafting tables that let you rotate, balance or clear the grid with a single press, plus a set of keybinds for moving and compressing items.[1]

The grid buttons

  • Rotate spins the outer ring of the crafting grid, which is handy when you've got a recipe in the wrong orientation.[1]
  • Balance evens out the stack sizes of the materials already sitting in the grid.[1]
  • Holding shift while clicking the balance button spreads a single stack across the entire grid instead.[1]
  • Clear empties the grid straight back into your inventory.[1]
Watch out: The force clear option drops items if necessary, so if your inventory is full you can end up with your grid contents on the floor.[3]

Moving items in and out

You can push items into the grid without dragging them: hold the W key while clicking an item to transfer it in, and use Shift+W to transfer everything of that type. It's the fastest way to load a grid when you're crafting the same thing over and over.[1]

Right-clicking the result slot crafts an entire stack in one go rather than a single item at a time. This behaviour is controlled by a client option, so if you'd rather keep vanilla right-click behaviour you can turn it off.[1][3]

Compression

There's a keybind for compressing a stack of items into its 3x3 or 2x2 recipe, and for decompressing blocks back into their ingot or item form. That covers the usual nine-to-one and four-to-one storage blocks without ever opening a crafting GUI menu by hand.[1]

  • A denylist of modid:name entries controls which items the compress key refuses to craft.[3]
  • A separate option decides whether (de)compression requires a crafting grid at all. Turned off, the feature works outside crafting GUIs, but only if the mod is installed on the server, and only while you're in your player inventory.[3]

Client options and compatibility

The mod's mode setting decides how you interact with it: DEFAULT enables both the on-screen buttons and the hotkeys, BUTTONS gives you buttons only, HOTKEYS gives you keybinds only, and DISABLED switches the mod off completely.[3]

If Crafting Tweaks' buttons clash with another mod's crafting GUI, there's a disabled addons list where you can drop in mod ids to turn off Crafting Tweaks support for those mods specifically, rather than disabling everything.[3]

There's also a toggle that hides vanilla's crafting book button outright instead of shuffling it out of the way, the mod itself points out that JEI does the job better anyway.[3]

Tip: Crafting Tweaks is bi-optional. Only players who want it need it installed, and if a server doesn't have it, the features still work for the people who do: with the exception of the out-of-grid compression option, which needs it server-side.[1][3]

The mod supports many modded crafting tables, not just the vanilla one, so the buttons show up across a lot of the crafting interfaces you'll run into in the pack.[1]

Crafting Tweaks depends on Balm, which has to be installed alongside it.[1]

Unverified The default key bindings for transfer, compress and decompress, and the exact list of supported modded crafting tables in this pack, aren't covered by the available sources. Check your controls menu in game to see what's bound.

Which Crafting Tweaks config options matter?

1 part

Unverified Which config options Crafting Tweaks has in this pack, and whether the pack changed any of them from the mod defaults, is unverified. No config files for this mod were available, so there are no pack-specific values to show you here.

What the mod does without config details

The mod adds buttons to many supported crafting tables that rotate, balance or clear the crafting grid. Holding shift on the balance button spreads a single stack over the whole grid, and right-clicking the result slot crafts a full stack.[1]

  • A keybind compresses stacks of items into their 3x3 or 2x2 recipe form.[1]
  • Hold the W key while clicking items to transfer them into the grid. Shift+W transfers all items of that type.[1]
Tip: The mod is bi-optional. Only the players who want it need to install it, and if the server doesn't have it, it still works for the people who do.[1]
