What is Cooking for Blockheads?
3 parts
Cooking for Blockheads adds a multi-block kitchen to Minecraft. This pack ships version 21.1.24 of the mod. The centerpiece is the Cooking Table, which shows every recipe you can make with the food in your inventory or stored in the connected kitchen. It's a good fit if you like tidy base building, or if you want a reliable source of infinite water.[1][2]
Where it fits in the progression
You meet the mod in the Food and Farming quest chapter. First comes "Making a Kitchen, with a Book" quest, which asks for the Cooking for Blockheads I. Next is "Cooking with the power of Diamonds" quest, where you get the Cooking for Blockheads II, the next version of that book. Then "THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD" quest hands you the Cooking Table, and every kitchen part after it unlocks from that quest.[2]
The kitchen parts
- Sink: supplies water to the kitchen, and can also give infinite water by pumping it out through cables or pipes.[2]
- Ice Unit: provides Ice and Snow recipes.[2]
- Heating Unit: lets you attach power to the Stove.[2]
- Oven: enables smelting recipes in your kitchen.[2]
- Kitchen Counter: stores items for cooking. Other kitchen items, like toasters and the Cow in a Jar, can sit on top of it.[2]
- Kitchen Cabinet: works like the counter but hangs in the air, and nothing can be placed on top of it.[2]
- Cow in a Jar: produces milk over time and enables milk recipes. See "A Cow in a Jar" quest for how to get the cow inside.[2]
The Sink matters beyond cooking
Other quest chapters lean on the Sink too. In Forbidden & Arcanus, "Infinite Water!!!" quest has you pipe water from a Sink to turn Arcane Crystal Dust into Liquid Aureal. In the Mekanism reactor chapter, "Water Coolant" quest points you to the Sink for reactor water and says it can be piped out from practically any mod. The Tips and Tricks chapter calls it an easy way to automate infinite water, usable as reactor coolant.[3][4][5]
How do you get started with Cooking for Blockheads?
5 parts
Cooking for Blockheads builds a multi-block kitchen. You craft a recipe book, then add blocks that feed it water, storage and heat. The pack's quest chapter "Food and Farming" walks you through it in a sensible order, and this section follows that order.[2]
Step one: smelt a book into your first recipe book
The first quest, "Making a Kitchen, with a Book" quest, wants you to get Cooking for Blockheads I. You don't craft it. You put a regular book in a furnace and smelt it. The later quests in the chapter build on it, so do this first. Its job is to show you the food you can make right now.[2][6][7]
Step two: upgrade to the second book
Next up is "Cooking with the power of Diamonds" quest, which asks for Cooking for Blockheads II. This is the upgraded version of the first book, and it lets you craft food with what you have available. You'll need it for the next step.[2][6][7]

Step three: place the Cooking Table
The Cooking Table is the heart of the kitchen. The quest "THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD" quest explains that it shows every recipe you can make from the food in your inventory or stored in the kitchen multi-block. The rest of the kitchen quests in the chapter come after this one.[2][7]

Step four: add water, storage and an oven
In the quest book, these blocks all follow the Cooking Table quest. The first three are the most useful to start with.[2]
- Sink ("The Sink = Infinite Water" quest) provides water to the kitchen. It can also give you infinite water if you pump it out through cables or pipes.[2][7]
- Kitchen Counter ("Need more cooking space?" quest) stores items for cooking. You can also put other kitchen blocks on top of it, such as a toaster or a Cow in a Jar.[2][7]
- Oven ("Honey, there's a Furnace in the Kitchen" quest) enables smelting recipes inside your kitchen.[2][7]

Optional upgrades
After the table you can add more blocks whenever you like. The Ice Unit ("Ice Upgrade" quest) provides ice and snow recipes. The Heating Unit ("Heating Upgrade" quest) lets you heat the oven using energy. The Kitchen Cabinet ("Even More Storage" quest) gives you more storage. It goes on the wall above kitchen blocks, and you can't put things on top of it.[2][7]

Milk comes from the Cow in a Jar ("A Cow in a Jar" quest). It slowly produces milk and enables milk recipes. To fill it, place the jar in a hole, lure a cow into the hole above it, then drop an anvil on the cow.[2][7]
If your kitchen blocks don't touch, the Kitchen Connector links them around corners and the Kitchen Floor links them over distances.[6][7]

How does Cooking for Blockheads work?
5 parts
Cooking for Blockheads is a kitchen you build from separate blocks, and the mod's own tooltips spell out what each one does. Here is how the pieces fit together.[7]
The kitchen blocks and what they do
- Cooking Table: its tooltip says it enables crafting abilities.[6][7]
- Ovens (Black Oven is one dyed version): the oven tooltip says it enables smelting abilities.[6][7]
- Kitchen Counter: its tooltip says it stores ingredients for recipes.[6][7]
- Fridges (Blue Fridge is one dyed version): the fridge tooltip also says it stores ingredients for recipes.[6][7]
- Kitchen Cabinet: its tooltip says it can be placed on the wall above kitchen blocks.[6][7]
- Sinks (Black Sink is one dyed version): the sink tooltip says it provides water to recipes.[6][7]
- Cutting Board: its tooltip says it provides a cutting board for recipes.[6][7]
The mod has more helper blocks, and their tooltips describe them like this. The Milk Jar provides milk to recipes. The Cow Jar slowly produces milk for recipes. The Ice Unit provides snow and ice to recipes. The Tool Rack provides tools to recipes. The Spice Rack stores spices and ingredients. The Fruit Basket stores fruits for recipes. The Preservation Chamber prevents the last item of a slot from being used up. The Toaster magically turns bread into toast. The Heating Unit allows heating an oven using energy.[7]
Linking the kitchen together
Kitchen blocks are meant to be linked, and there are separate blocks for that. The tooltip for the Kitchen Connector says it connects kitchen blocks over corners. The tooltip for the Kitchen Floor says it connects kitchen blocks over distances.[6][7]

The floor also comes in dyed versions. You combine a Kitchen Floor with a dye to get the Black, Blue, Brown or Cyan floor, such as Cyan Kitchen Floor.[6]
The recipe books
The tooltip for Cooking for Blockheads I (Cooking for Blockheads I) reads "See food you can make right now." The tooltip for Cooking for Blockheads II (Cooking for Blockheads II) reads "Craft food with what you have available."[6][7]

The book's tooltips say to click again to craft one, and to shift-click to craft a stack or, for cooking, to cook a stack. When something is lacking, the tooltips mention missing ingredients, missing tools, a missing oven, or a missing cooking pot.[7]
Colors
The functional blocks come in dyed variants, such as Brown Cooking Table and Blue Kitchen Connector. Each is made by combining a dye with a block of the matching type. The recipes shown here cover black, blue and brown.[6]

Automation, fuel and fluids
The mod's configuration tooltips describe settings for the oven, sink and counters. They explain what each option does, not what this pack sets it to.[7]
- Oven automation: the tooltip says an option can disallow it, so that pipes and similar blocks cannot insert or extract.[7]
- Oven speed: the tooltip describes a cook time multiplier, where higher values mean longer cooking. A separate fuel multiplier makes fuel last longer at higher values, and 1.0 is the furnace default.[7]
- Oven fuel: the tooltip describes an option to make the oven accept only cooking oil as fuel, and says it requires Pam's Harvestcraft.[7]
- Sink water: the tooltip describes an option to make the sink require water to be piped in, instead of providing infinite water.[7]
- Counter size: the tooltip says that enabling the option gives kitchen counters twice as much inventory space.[7]
- Cow Jar: the tooltip says that, when enabled, a cow can be squished into a Milk Jar by dropping an anvil on top. Another option sets the milk generated per tick, and there is an Ex Compressum compatibility multiplier for Compressed Cow in a Jar.[7]
A couple of small extras are listed in the tooltips. Toasting toasted bread again turns it into charcoal, but only if no other mod adding toast is present. The recipe book also has options to exclude specific recipe ids and to show or hide a special icon on ingredients.[7]
Unverified The sources here include no config files for this mod in the pack, so they do not show the actual values used for oven automation, cook and fuel multipliers, sink water, counter size or Cow Jar milk output.
How do you progress through Cooking for Blockheads?
4 parts
In this pack, Cooking for Blockheads follows a short quest line in the Food and Farming chapter. You start with a book, upgrade it, craft the Cooking Table, and then pick whichever kitchen add-ons you want. Every add-on quest comes after the Cooking Table quest.[2]
The main path
- "Making a Kitchen, with a Book" quest: the first book is Cooking for Blockheads I. You get it by smelting a regular book in a furnace.[2][6]
- "Cooking with the power of Diamonds" quest: upgrade to Cooking for Blockheads II, the next version of the book.[2][6]
- "THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD" quest: craft the Cooking Table. It is part of a multi-block kitchen and shows every recipe you can make with the food in your inventory or stored in the kitchen.[2][6]

Third step: the Cooking Table, which opens up the add-on quests.
Kitchen add-ons
After the Cooking Table, these quests all open up together, so you can do them in any order. Here is what each one adds to your kitchen.[2]
- Sink ("The Sink = Infinite Water" quest): provides water to the kitchen. It can also give infinite water when you pump it out through cables or pipes.[2]
- Ice Unit ("Ice Upgrade" quest): unlocks Ice and Snow recipes.[2]
- Heating Unit ("Heating Upgrade" quest): lets you attach power to the Stove.[2]
- Oven ("Honey, there's a Furnace in the Kitchen" quest): enables smelting recipes in your kitchen multi-block.[2]
- Kitchen Counter ("Need more cooking space?" quest): stores items for cooking. You can also place other kitchen items on it, like toasters and a Cow in a Jar.[2]
- Kitchen Cabinet ("Even More Storage" quest): works like the counter but hangs in the air. You can't put things on top of it.[2]
- Cow in a Jar ("A Cow in a Jar" quest): produces milk over time and enables milk recipes. To get a cow inside, the quest says to place the jar in a hole, lure a cow to fall into the hole above it, then drop an anvil on the cow.[2]

Colors and recoloring
Kitchen blocks come in many dye colors. The pack has shapeless dye recipes for cabinets, connectors, cooking tables, counters, fridges, ovens and sinks. There are also recipes that remove the dye again from dyed cabinets, cooking tables, counters and sinks.[6]
The Sink beyond the kitchen
The Sink is also a quest item in other chapters, because it gives you infinite water you can pipe out. The Forbidden & Arcanus chapter tells you to pipe water from a Sink for its Liquid Aureal step. The Mekanism: Reactors chapter hands you the Sink as a water source for reactors, and the Tips and Tricks chapter calls it an easy way to automate infinite water.[3][4][5]
How does Cooking for Blockheads work with other mods?
2 parts
Cooking for Blockheads is mostly a self-contained kitchen mod, but the pack ties it into other mods in two ways: colored kitchen floors from a dye mod, and the Sink as an infinite water source for machines and reactors.[2][3][4][5][6]
Colored kitchen floors
The pack adds recipes that turn the Kitchen Floor into colored versions. Each one is a shaped crafting recipe that combines the white floor with a dye of the matching color. The colored floors are registered under the dyenamicsandfriends namespace rather than the kitchen mod's own.[6]
The colors are amber, aquamarine, bubblegum, cherenkov, conifer, fluorescent, honey, icy blue, lavender, maroon, mint, navy, peach, persimmon, rose, spring green, ultramarine and wine. All of these recipes are marked as added by the pack.[6]
Here are two examples. The other colors follow the same pattern.[6]

The Sink as an infinite water source
The Sink supplies water to your kitchen multi-block, and it can also give you infinite water if you pump it out through cables or pipes. The pack's quests use this trick in other chapters too.[2]
- In the Forbidden & Arcanus chapter, "Infinite Water!!!" quest points out that turning Arcane Crystal Dust into Liquid Aureal needs water. The quest says to pipe it from a Sink, because it's infinite.[3]
- In the Mekanism: Reactors chapter, "Water Coolant" quest hands you the Sink for reactor water. It says the Sink has infinite water and can be piped out from practically any mod. It also recommends using ID if available, since it can pull over 2 Billion mB of water each tick.[4]
- In Tips and Tricks, "Infinite Water" quest calls the Sink an easy way to automate infinite water and notes it can be used as reactor coolant.[5]
The Mekanism quest also explains why most of that chapter uses Electric Pumps. It says the pumps will stay for modpacks that don't have Sinks, and that they come from Mekanism itself.[4]
Which All the Mods 10 quests use Cooking for Blockheads?
2 parts
Most of this mod's questing sits in the Food and Farming chapter, where one small tree builds up your multi-block kitchen. The Sink also shows up in three other chapters as a handy source of infinite water.[2][3][4][5]
Food and Farming: building the kitchen
The chain starts with "Making a Kitchen, with a Book" quest, which asks you to get Cooking for Blockheads I. Its quest text jokes about putting a book in a Furnace and smelting it. Next comes "Cooking with the power of Diamonds" quest, which asks for the upgraded book, Cooking for Blockheads II. The text promises you'll even get a Diamond back.[2]
After that, "THE BEST THING SINCE SLICED BREAD" quest asks for the Cooking Table. The quest describes it as part of a multi-block kitchen that shows every recipe available from the food in your inventory or stored in the kitchen.[2]
Once you finish the Cooking Table quest, the chapter branches. These quests all come after it:[2]
- "The Sink = Infinite Water" quest asks for the Sink. It supplies water to the kitchen and can give infinite water when piped out with cables or pipes.[2]
- "Ice Upgrade" quest asks for the Ice Unit, which provides Ice and Snow recipes.[2]
- "Heating Upgrade" quest asks for the Heating Unit, which lets you attach power to the Stove.[2]
- "Honey, there's a Furnace in the Kitchen" quest asks for the Oven, which enables smelting recipes in the kitchen multi-block.[2]
- "Need more cooking space?" quest asks for the Kitchen Counter. It stores items for cooking, and you can place other kitchen items on it, such as toasters and a Cow in a Jar.[2]
- "A Cow in a Jar" quest asks for the Cow in a Jar. It produces milk over time and enables milk recipes for the kitchen.[2]
- "Even More Storage" quest asks for the Kitchen Cabinet. It works like the counter, but you can't put things on top of it.[2]
The Sink in other chapters
The Sink is the one item from this mod that other chapters ask for again. Each time it's about infinite water, not cooking.[3][4][5]
- Forbidden & Arcanus: "Infinite Water!!!" quest comes after the Tier 5 Forge quest. It tells you to pipe water from a Sink to turn Arcane Crystal Dust into Liquid Aureal.[3]
- Mekanism: Reactors: "Water Coolant" quest comes after the Fission Reactor Port quest. It hands you the Sink as a water source for the reactors. The quest says it can be piped out from practically any mod, and recommends ID if available because it can pull over 2 Billion mB of water each tick.[4]
- Tips and Tricks: "Infinite Water" quest has no prerequisite listed. It calls the Sink an easy way to automate infinite water, usable as reactor coolant, and says to just make another if you need more.[5]
