What is Compact Machines?

Same as in the FTB Skies 2 1.23.0 guide

Compact Machines is part of the pack's mod list. This pack ships version 7.0.81, the NeoForge build (compactmachines-neoforge-7.0.81.jar).[1]

It isn't a new addition. The mod was already in the pack as of version 1.0.1 or earlier, so it has been around for a long time.[1]

I don't have enough information to describe the mod's items, recipes or mechanics as they work in this pack, so I'm leaving those out rather than guessing. Check back for the sections that cover them once they're confirmed.[1]

How do you get started with Compact Machines?

4 parts

Compact Machines lets you build pocket dimensions. The basic loop is simple: craft a machine, place it in the world, then use a Personal Shrinking Device to go inside. Everything in this section is about getting you to that point.[2]

Step 1: Make the two modules

The Personal Shrinking Device is built from a shrinking module and an enlarging module, so start there. The Atom Shrinking Module comes first.[3]

Next is the Atom Enlarging Module. Its recipe is very close to the shrinking module's, so you can craft them back to back.[3]

Step 2: Craft the Personal Shrinking Device

The Personal Shrinking Device (PSD) is your key to the mod. Its recipe uses both modules you just made, which is why they come first. Crafting it also earns you an advancement.[2][3]

You use the PSD on a placed machine to enter its compact space.[2]

Step 3: Get a machine and place it

Machines are the blocks that hold the pocket dimensions. Place one in the world, then use your PSD on it to go inside.[2]

Compact Machine Walls

The pack also has a recipe for the Compact Machine Wall. It is cheap, so it is worth knowing about early.[3]

Tip: Hold shift over Compact Machines items to see their detailed tooltips. If you get lost inside a room, the mod can tell you which room you are in and which machine it is bound to.[2]

Unverified No quests in this pack involve Compact Machines, and no in-jar guidebook was found, so this order of steps comes from the recipes and tooltips alone.

How does Compact Machines work?

4 parts

Compact Machines is about pocket dimensions. You craft a machine, place it in the world, and then step inside it to get a small room of your own.[2]

Getting inside a machine

The tool for the job is the Personal Shrinking Device, or PSD for short. Use it on a placed machine to enter the compact space.[2]

  1. Craft a machine and place it in the world.[2]
  2. Use the Personal Shrinking Device on the placed machine to go inside.[2]

The mod gives you an advancement for obtaining your first PSD, so it is an early milestone to aim for.[2]

Crafting the Personal Shrinking Device

In this pack the PSD is crafted from two sub-components, the Atom Shrinking Module and the Atom Enlarging Module. Here are the three recipes.[3]

This recipe uses one of each module.

Rooms and how machines bind to them

Each machine is bound to a room of a particular size. The mod's info text tells you that the machine at a given position is bound to a room of a given size at a given location.[2]

The mod can also report which room a player is inside, using the player's name and the room.[2]

Rooms can also come from templates. A template's tooltip says it generates structures when the room is created, so some rooms may start with something already built inside.[2]

The mod also has two joke advancements. One asks which machine the player is in, and the other is a recursion gag.[2]

Walls

This pack has a recipe for the Compact Machine Wall, shown below. Separately, the mod has an advancement for obtaining a breakable wall block.[2][3]

How do you progress through Compact Machines?

4 parts

The sources here show no quest path for Compact Machines in this pack, so progression is a crafting chain you can follow from the recipes alone. The pieces below are the ones the pack's recipe dump shows for the mod.[3]

Compact Machine Wall

The Compact Machine Wall is the first item on the list. The recipe is shaped crafting and you can see it below.[3]

8 × Polished Deepslate

The two modules

Next come the Atom Shrinking Module and the Atom Enlarging Module. They're a matched pair, and their recipes below differ in just one component.[3]

Personal Shrinking Device

The Personal Shrinking Device is the last item in this chain. Its recipe uses both modules, so craft those first. The recipe accepts any glass pane and any copper or iron ingot or nugget from the common tags, so you don't need a specific mod's version of them.[3]

What I can't confirm

Unverified I have no quest data for this mod in the pack, so I can't say whether any quest rewards or unlocks these items. I also have no source describing machine sizes, tiers or how the pack balances them, so a tier-by-tier breakdown would be a guess and I've left it out.
