What is Compact Machines?
2 parts
Compact Machines lets you build and enter tiny pocket spaces. You place a Compact Machine in the world, step inside, and get a compacted dimension to use as a base, a storage room or a build area that takes almost no room in your main world.[1]
This pack ships Compact Machines 7.0.81 for NeoForge. It has been in the pack since version 2.25 or earlier, so it's a long-standing part of the mod list.[2]
How it works
After you place a Compact Machine, you enter it with the Personal Shrinking Device. The machine's size depends on the recipe you used, from 5x5x5 up to 45x45x45. Inside, you can't break the walls. To get out, right-click with the Personal Shrinking Device.[1]
Who it's for and where it fits
It's a great pick if you like tidy, space-saving builds or want a lot of room without sprawling across your world. The pack covers it in the Building Tips quest chapter. The quest "Compact Machines" quest unlocks after the Paxel quest, and its task is to obtain the Personal Shrinking Device.[1]
Unverified This mod is not on the ATM Star quest path, and nothing in the available sources describes a specific progression stage for it beyond the Building Tips quest.
How do you get started with Compact Machines?
3 parts
Compact Machines lets you place a block and step inside it into your own compacted dimension. In this pack the quest "Compact Machines" quest sits in the Building Tips chapter, after the Paxel quest, and it asks you to make the Personal Shrinking Device.[1]
Step by step
- Make the two modules first: the Atom Shrinking Module and the Atom Enlarging Module. Both are ingredients in the shrinking device and in every machine recipe in the pack.[3]
- Craft the Personal Shrinking Device. It is the key to the whole mod, because you use it on a placed machine to get inside.[3][4]
- Make some Compact Machine Wall blocks. Every machine recipe in the pack needs one.[3]
- Craft a machine (New Machine), place it in the world, and use the shrinking device on it to enter.[3][4]

Compact Machine Walls are needed for every machine recipe.
Picking a machine
The machine recipes in this pack are added by the pack itself, with one recipe per variant: tiny, small, normal, large, giant, colossal, farming and soaryn. The quest says the size of a machine depends on the recipe and ranges from 5x5x5 to 45x45x45. Here is the tiny one as an example.[1][3]

This recipe is added by the pack. The other variants have their own recipes with the same result item.
Inside the machine
You can't break a Compact Machine's walls, and you leave by right clicking with the Personal Shrinking Device, so keep it on you.[1]
How does Compact Machines work?
5 parts
Compact Machines is all about pocket dimensions. You craft a machine, place it in the world, then use a Personal Shrinking Device on it to step inside a compact space. That loop is the heart of the mod, so let's walk through what the sources confirm.[4]
Getting inside a machine
The Personal Shrinking Device (PSD) is your key. You use it on a placed machine to enter the room bound to that machine. The mod can tell you where a machine is, the size of the room it is bound to, and where that room is. It also has a message that tells you which room a player is currently inside.[4]

The PSD needs both the shrinking module and the enlarging module, so craft those first.
Building blocks and modules
Everything starts with the Compact Machine Wall, the breakable wall block. The mod even has an advancement for obtaining one. In this pack it comes from the mod's own recipe.[3][4]
Machines and the PSD also need two crafted components: the Atom Shrinking Module and the Atom Enlarging Module. Both use the mod's own recipes.[3]

Machine sizes in this pack
The pack adds its own machine recipes. Each one produces the same New Machine item, and the recipe ids are named tiny, small, normal, large, giant, colossal, farming and soaryn. All of them use a wall, a shrinking module and an enlarging module, and each variant has its own extra ingredient. Check the recipes below to see exactly what each one needs.[3]

Staying inside the room
The mod ships with game rules that control what happens when players leave the room bounds. There are separate rules to allow out-of-bounds survival players, creative players and spectators, and a rule to damage players that are out of bounds. Another rule makes leaving rooms damage shrinking devices.[4]
Room previews
The client config has an option, enableRoomPreviews, that shows a room preview when you open a bound machine's UI. This pack sets it to false, so the preview is off unless you turn it on yourself.[5]
How do you progress through Compact Machines?
3 parts
Compact Machines lets you enter a tiny pocket dimension from a placed machine. In this pack, the path starts with the quest "Compact Machines" quest, which sits in the Building Tips chapter right after the Paxel quest. Its task is to get a Personal Shrinking Device.[1]
First: the Personal Shrinking Device
The Personal Shrinking Device is your key to every machine. After you place a Compact Machine, you use the device to enter it, and you right click with it to get back out. The quest also warns that you can't break a machine's walls.[1]
The device needs both an Atom Enlarging Module and a Atom Shrinking Module. The recipes for the device and both modules are the mod's own, so the pack hasn't changed them.[3]

Next: Compact Machine Walls
Every machine tier uses the Compact Machine Wall. Its recipe is the mod's own, not a pack change.[3]
Then: pick your machine tier
The pack adds its own recipe for each machine tier, and each one produces New Machine. Every tier recipe uses the same base: an enlarging module, a shrinking module and a wall. What sets the tier apart is the one extra item in the recipe. The quest says the machine's size depends on the recipe and ranges from 5x5x5 to 45x45x45.[1][3]
The tier recipes are named tiny, small, normal, large, giant, colossal, farming and soaryn. The renders below show the exact in-pack recipe for each one.[3]

Which All the Mods 10 quests use Compact Machines?
1 part
Compact Machines only shows up in one place in the quest book: the Building Tips chapter. There's a single quest for the mod, so there's no long chain to follow.[1]
Compact Machines (Building Tips)
The quest "Compact Machines" quest unlocks after you finish the Paxel quest in the same chapter. Do Paxel first, then come back here.[1]
The task is to obtain the Personal Shrinking Device. It's a submission-style item task, so you don't have to build or enter anything to finish it.[1]
The quest text also works as a quick primer on how the mod plays. Once you place a Compact Machine, you enter it with the Personal Shrinking Device. The size of the interior depends on the recipe you used, from 5x5x5 up to 45x45x45.[1]
Which Compact Machines config options matter?
The only Compact Machines config I can confirm for this pack is a client-side option, enableRoomPreviews. It controls whether a room preview is shown when you open the UI of a bound machine.[5]
This pack sets it to false, so you won't get the room preview when you open a bound machine's UI. Because it's a client config, it only affects your own game. If you want the preview back, set the option to true in config/compactmachines-client.toml.[5]
Unverified I couldn't confirm the mod's default value for this option, so I can't say whether the pack changed it. I also have no source for any other Compact Machines config files or options, such as server or common settings, so I'm leaving them out rather than guessing.
What changed in Compact Machines between versions?
1 part
All the Mods 10 8.1 ships Compact Machines 7.0.81. The mod has been in the pack since All the Mods 10 2.25 or earlier, and the pack changelogs below show how its version moved over time.[2]
Version bumps by pack release
- All the Mods 10 2.28: updated from 7.0.14 to 7.0.22.[6]
- All the Mods 10 4.11: updated from 7.0.22 to 7.0.36.[7]
- All the Mods 10 4.13: updated from 7.0.36 to 7.0.37.[8]
- All the Mods 10 4.15: the changelog lists Compact Machines 7.0.68 as added.[9]
- All the Mods 10 5.5: updated from 7.0.68 to 7.0.80.[10]
- All the Mods 10 6.0: updated from 7.0.80 to 7.0.81.[11]
The latest bump in these changelogs is the one in 6.0, and version 7.0.81 is the one in 8.1. So you're on the same build that 6.0 brought in.[2][11]
Unverified The pack changelogs only record version numbers, and no changelogs are stored for the shipped jars. What each Compact Machines update actually changed (features, fixes, recipes or balance) is unconfirmed. The changelog also doesn't explain why 4.15 lists the mod as added when it was already in the pack earlier.
