What is CC: Tweaked?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

CC: Tweaked adds programmable computers, turtles and more to Minecraft. It's a fork of the much-loved ComputerCraft, and it focuses on improved performance and stability plus a lot of new features. If you've ever wanted to automate your world with real code, this is the mod for it.[1]

Computers are programmed in the Lua language, and they give you everything you need to start writing code and automating things. They can't move, though. That's where turtles come in: they travel around the world, place and break blocks, and can even swing a sword to protect you from zombies, depending on what you program them to do.[1]

Peripherals extend your computers. Speakers let you play a tune, monitors display text or images, and modems connect all your computers together. Computers can also interact with inventories such as chests, so you can build complex inventory and item management systems.[1]

Who it's for

The mod works for experienced programmers and for people who have never coded before, although getting started can feel a little daunting. The project recommends a few tutorial series: Direwolf20's ComputerCraft tutorials, Sethbling's turtle series and Lyqyd's Computer Basics. Once you're comfortable, the mod's online wiki documents the APIs and peripherals in more detail.[1]

In this pack

The pack's mod list shows CC: Tweaked, and it was first included in an earlier release, version 2.25 or before. The list has two entries for this version of the pack: 1.113.1 and 1.120.2.[2]

Unverified The mod list shows two CC: Tweaked versions, so it's unclear which one is actually active. The sources also don't show where the mod fits in the pack's progression, or whether it appears on the ATM Star path or in any quests. Treat it as an optional automation toy rather than something the pack asks you to use.

Get moving with a Turtle

A computer can't move around, and turtles solve that. They can move about the world, place and break blocks, and even swing a sword to protect you. The pack has two routes to the Advanced Turtle: a recipe built around an Advanced Computer, and an upgrade of a normal Turtle.[1][3]

How does CC: Tweaked work?

6 parts

At its heart, this mod gives you programmable computers that you control with the Lua programming language. Instead of machines with fixed jobs, you write the logic yourself, and the computer runs your code to automate your world.[1]

Computers can't move, so the mod also adds turtles. Turtles are mobile robots that travel through the world, place and break blocks, swing a sword to protect you from zombies, or do whatever else you program them to do.[1]

Computers and upgrades

The basic block is the Computer. Next is the Advanced Computer, and you can craft it from scratch or upgrade a normal computer you already have. There are also handheld versions, the Pocket Computer and the Advanced Pocket Computer, so you can carry a computer around.[5]

Upgrades an existing Computer into an Advanced Computer

The Command Computer is a special version that works with the /computercraft queue command. Any player can run that command to send a computer_command event to a command computer, usually by clicking a text component. It's mainly meant for map makers, as a more computer-friendly version of /trigger.[5][6]

Unverified The mod has an option that only lets opped players in creative mode interact with command computers, like vanilla command blocks. This pack's setting for it has not been confirmed.

Peripherals

Peripherals are blocks that give your computers new abilities. The Monitor and Advanced Monitor show text or images. The Speaker plays tunes. Modems link your computers together. The pack also includes a Printer and a Disk Drive.[1][5]

The Disk Drive reads Floppy Disk items, which are handy for moving programs between computers. Floppy disks have 16 recipe variants in this pack, one for each dye colour, so you can colour-code your disks.[5]

Monitors have a maximum render distance. The mod also limits how much monitor data can be sent each tick, so lots of big, busy monitors updating at the same moment can run into that limit.[6]

Networking: wired and wireless

To build a wired network, you connect computers and peripherals with Networking Cable and Wired Modem blocks. The wired modem comes in two forms, Wired Modem and the full-block Wired Modem. You can convert between them in the crafting grid whenever you need to.[1][5]

For wireless networking, you use the Wireless Modem or the Ender Modem. Wireless Modem range isn't fixed: it's different at low altitude and at maximum altitude, and it changes between clear and stormy weather. If messages don't arrive, try moving your modem higher up or waiting for the storm to pass.[5][6]

Item handling and automation

Automation is where this mod really shines. Computers can interact with inventories such as chests, so you can build complex inventory and item management systems. The mod gives "generic methods" to blocks that don't have their own peripheral support. These include inventory methods like inventory.getItemDetail, to inspect items, and inventory.pushItems, to move them.[1][6]

Unverified The mod's descriptions also mention fluid_storage and energy_storage generic methods on Forge, and server owners can disable individual generic methods. Whether the fluid and energy methods are available in this pack, and whether any methods are disabled, has not been confirmed.

The internet and the HTTP API

Computers have an http API, and the popular pastebin and wget programs depend on it to download code. Server owners can switch it off completely or restrict it with per-domain rules.[6]

Unverified Whether the http API is enabled in this pack, and which rules apply, has not been confirmed.

How computers run, and the admin command

Computers run their code on dedicated threads with a time budget each tick, so one busy computer shouldn't hog the whole server. Each computer and turtle also has a disk space limit, and floppy disks have their own separate limit.[6]

The /computercraft command is a toolbox for debugging and managing computers. Most subcommands let you pick a computer by its instance id (like 123), its computer id (like #123) or, for some, its label (like "@My Computer").[6]

  • dump shows the status of all computers, or details about one specific computer.[6]
  • shutdown and turn_on switch the listed computers off or on. If you run shutdown without naming any computers, it shuts down all of them.[6]
  • tp teleports you to a computer's location.[6]
  • view opens a computer's terminal so you can control it remotely. It does not give you access to a turtle's inventory.[6]
  • track start, track stop and track dump measure how long computers run and how many events they handle, which helps you find the source of lag.[6]
Tip: If your server starts lagging, run track start, wait a bit, then run track dump. It shows you which computers are using the most execution time.[6]

How do you progress through CC: Tweaked?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

In this pack, CC: Tweaked progression is a ladder of upgrades built from crafting recipes. You can start with a basic Computer and climb from there. Every recipe block below is the exact in-pack recipe.[3]

Unverified The sources here do not show any quests for this mod, so the pack's quest book order for it is unverified. The tiers below follow the crafting recipes instead.

Tier 1: Basic computing

How does CC: Tweaked work with other mods?

1 part

In this pack, CC: Tweaked links up with other mods through one crafting recipe. There are no quests that tie it to other mods, so this section is short.[5]

Wireless Modem in the Drone Interface

The Wireless Modem from CC: Tweaked is an ingredient in the Drone Interface. That recipe also uses a Finished PCB and a Range Upgrade, so you'll need some progress in both mods before you can make it.[5]

In CC: Tweaked, modems are the peripherals that connect your computers together. If you plan to build a Drone Interface, it's a good idea to make an extra Wireless Modem while you're setting up your computer network.[1]

Unverified The sources don't describe what the Drone Interface does once it's placed, or whether it lets CC: Tweaked computers control drones. Test it in-game before you plan a build around it.

Which CC: Tweaked config options matter?

CC: Tweaked adds programmable computers, turtles and a bunch of peripherals like speakers, monitors and modems, and computers can even interact with inventories such as chests. That's a lot of moving parts, so it's natural to wonder how the pack has tuned things.[1]

Unverified We couldn't confirm which config options this pack sets for CC: Tweaked, or whether it changes any of them from the mod defaults. Until we can check the pack's actual values, we won't list any options or numbers here, so treat any settings you've seen elsewhere as unconfirmed for this pack.

What changed in CC: Tweaked between versions?

Here's where things stand in All the Mods 10 2.25: the pack ships CC: Tweaked version 1.113.1, so that's the build you're playing with when you place your first computer in this release.[7]

CC: Tweaked isn't a recent addition either. It has been part of the pack since All the Mods 10 1.9 or earlier, so if you've been playing ATM10 for a while, your computers and turtles have likely been around across many pack updates.[7]

Unverified There are no pack changelog entries or stored mod changelogs available for CC: Tweaked in this pack, so which version was first included and what changed between pack releases (new features, fixes or tweaks) can't be confirmed here. Check the mod's own release notes if you need details on a specific change.
