What is Trash Cans?
2 parts
Trash Cans is all about getting rid of stuff. It adds trash cans that can void items, fluids and energy. This pack includes Trash Cans 1.0.18+c.[1][2]
The four trash cans
- Item Trash Can: voids items, and you can filter them in its GUI.[1]
- Fluid Trash Can: voids liquids and gasses, with filtering in its GUI.[1]
- Energy Trash Can: voids energy, and you set a transfer limit in its GUI.[1]
- Ultimate Trash Can (Ultimate Trash Can): handles items, fluids and energy in one block, with item and liquid filters plus an energy transfer limit.[1][3]
Filters can work as a whitelist or a blacklist. There is no cap on how much or how fast you can void. If you delete something by accident, the last 6 deleted items can be retrieved.[1]
Where the quest book puts it
The pack's quest book brings in the mod through the Mekanism: Reactors chapter, which has 94 quests. There, "Toss it!" quest asks you to get an Ultimate Trash Can and comes right after the Steam quest. The idea is that if you don't need the extra energy and want the safest Reactor, you can tube your Steam into the can and delete it instead of running Turbines.[3]
Most of that chapter's quests aren't covered here, so open the quest book to see what else sits around this one.[3]
How do you get started with Trash Cans?
4 parts
Trash cans are a simple mod. Each one voids a different thing, so the order below is the order I'd build them in. Every recipe block shows the recipe exactly as the pack has it.[1][4]
Start with the Item Trash Can
Begin with the Item Trash Can. It voids items and has a filter for up to 9 items, which you set inside its GUI. Items can be whitelisted or blacklisted.[1][4][5]

It also keeps a safety net: you can retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items if you delete something by accident.[1]
Next, the Liquid Trash Can
Then make the Liquid Trash Can. It voids liquids and gasses, and it has a filter for up to 9 fluids, which you set inside its GUI.[1][4][5]

Then the Energy Trash Can
The Energy Trash Can voids energy. It can also limit the energy transfer rate, and you set that limit inside its GUI.[1][4][5]

Finish with the Ultimate Trash Can
The Ultimate Trash Can comes last, because its recipe uses the other trash cans. It voids items, fluids and energy in one block, with filters for items and liquids and a limit for energy transfer. Crafting it also earns you an advancement.[1][4][5]
You'll meet it in the quest book too. In the Mekanism: Reactors chapter, the quest "Toss it!" quest comes after the Steam quest and asks for an Ultimate Trash Can. The idea is that if you don't need the Steam from your reactor, you can tube it into the can and delete it.[3]
Unverified The project page says voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default and can be enabled in the mod's config file. The sources here include no config file for this mod in the pack, so whether it is on or off in this pack is unverified.
How does Trash Cans work?
5 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide
Trash Cans is a simple mod with one job: getting rid of things you don't want. Each can voids a different resource: items, fluids, or energy. The Ultimate Trash Can can void items, fluids and energy in one block.[1][6]
The cans
- Item Trash Can voids items and has a filter that holds up to 9 items.[6][7]
- Liquid Trash Can voids liquids and gasses and has a filter that holds up to 9 fluids.[1][6][7]
- Energy Trash Can voids energy and can also limit the energy transfer rate.[6][7]
- Ultimate Trash Can voids items, fluids and energy in a single block.[6][7]
Filters and limits
Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted, and you set the filters inside the can's GUI. The energy can's transfer limit is also set in its GUI.[1]
The Ultimate Trash Can combines the other cans' behaviors. It has filters for items and liquids, plus a limit for energy transfer.[1]
Getting items back
If you void something by accident, you can retrieve it. The mod keeps up to the last 6 deleted items.[1]
Crafting
In this pack, the item, fluid and energy cans each use a shaped crafting recipe from the mod. The Ultimate Trash Can uses a shapeless recipe that combines the other cans.[7]

This is a shapeless recipe, so the layout in the crafting grid doesn't matter.
What the sources don't confirm
Unverified The mod's project page says voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default and can be enabled in the config file. The sources here show no config file for Trash Cans in this pack, so whether you can change that setting here is unverified.
How do you progress through Trash Cans?
3 parts
Trash Cans has a short ladder in this pack: the Item Trash Can, the Liquid Trash Can and the Energy Trash Can, with the Ultimate Trash Can at the top.[4]
The basic cans
The Item, Liquid and Energy cans each have their own shaped crafting recipe. Here is exactly how the pack makes each one.[4]

The Ultimate Trash Can
The top tier is the Ultimate Trash Can. Its recipe is shapeless, and it is built from the other cans rather than from raw materials.[4]
Shapeless recipe: it takes the Energy, Item and Liquid cans, so craft those first.
Where the quest book puts it
The pack's quest book mentions the Ultimate Trash Can in the Mekanism: Reactors chapter, in a quest called "Toss it!" quest. Its task is to have the Ultimate Trash Can. It comes right after "Steam" quest, which in turn comes after "Fission Reactor" quest.[3]
The idea is simple. If you cool your reactor with water you get steam as a byproduct, and steam is mostly useful for turbines. If you don't need the extra energy and want to play it safe, the quest tells you to tube the steam into an Ultimate Trash Can and delete it.[3]
The other quest that follows the steam quest is "Making Energy with a Turbine" quest. That one is for when you do want to use the steam, so you choose between turbine power and trashing it.[3]
The Mekanism: Reactors chapter has 94 quests, and the text of 19 of them was not available for this guide. For the full reactor setup around this step, check the quest book itself.[3]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Trash Cans?
2 parts
Trash Cans shows up in just one quest in the pack, and it's a fun one. It sits in the Mekanism: Reactors chapter and asks you to hand in the Ultimate Trash Can. The quest is called "Toss it!" quest.[3]
Where it sits in the chapter
The quest comes after "Steam" quest, which in turn follows "Fission Reactor" quest. So you get here once your fission reactor is built and you start dealing with what it produces.[3]
Steam is the byproduct you get when you use Water as the reactor's coolant. The "Toss it!" quest quest then gives you a different option from the turbine route: if you don't need more energy and want to stay as safe as you can, you can simply delete the Steam.[3]
What it asks for
The task is to obtain the Ultimate Trash Can. The quest text says Steam is pretty much only used by turbines to make energy, so if you don't want that, you tube it into the Ultimate Trash Can.[3]
What changed in Trash Cans between versions?
1 part
Trash Cans has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier, and All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.2.1 ships version 1.0.18+c of the mod for Minecraft 1.21 on NeoForge. That is the latest release in the mod's changelog, so you have every fix listed below.[2]
Trash Cans changelog
- 1.0.18: the initial release of Trash Cans for Minecraft 1.21.[8]
- 1.0.18a: adjusted the mod to account for breaking changes in Mekanism.[8]
- 1.0.18b: fixed trash cans not connecting to Mekanism gas pipes.[8]
- 1.0.18c: fixed a crash when breaking a trash can block that uses an enchanted item in its filter.[8]
If you use Mekanism gas pipes with a trash can, or filter by enchanted items, these fixes are already included in the version you have in this pack.[2][8]
