What is Trash Cans?

2 parts

Trash Cans adds trash cans that void items, fluids and energy, so you can get rid of what you don't want instead of letting it pile up. The pack includes version 1.0.18+c for NeoForge.[1][2]

The trash cans

Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted, so you decide exactly what disappears and what is left alone.[1]

There is no limit on how much you can void or how fast. If you delete something by mistake, up to the last 6 deleted items can be retrieved.[1]

Where it fits in the pack

The pack's quest book first places the mod in the storage chapter. The quest a quest in "?" there has the item, liquid and energy trash cans as its tasks.[3]

The Ultimate Trash Can shows up again in the mekanism_reactors chapter. The quest a quest in "?" has it as its task and comes after another quest in that chapter.[4]

How do you get started with Trash Cans?

4 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Trash Cans does one job and does it well: it gives you blocks that void stuff you don't want. There are four cans. Three handle a single thing each (items, fluids or energy), and the Ultimate Trash Can does all three. Here's the order to make them in and why.[1][5]

Step 1: Item Trash Can

Start with the Item Trash Can. It voids items, and its GUI has a filter for up to 9 items, so you can whitelist or blacklist exactly what gets deleted. That makes it the first can worth building. Point your cobblestone or dirt overflow at it and your storage stops filling up with junk.[1][5]

Tip: Deleted something by accident? The Item Trash Can lets you get back up to the last 6 deleted items, so a misclick isn't the end of the world.[1]

Step 2: Liquid Trash Can

Next, make the Liquid Trash Can. It voids liquids and gases, and it has a filter for up to 9 fluids. Grab one as soon as your machines start backing up on a byproduct fluid or gas you don't need.[1][5]

Step 3: Energy Trash Can

The Energy Trash Can voids energy. You can also set a transfer rate limit in its GUI, so it can drain power at a controlled rate instead of swallowing everything.[1][5]

All three basic cans are one quest in the storage chapter. a quest in "?" asks you for the item, liquid and energy trash cans, so building this set ticks it off.[6]

Step 4: Ultimate Trash Can

When you want everything in one block, craft the Ultimate Trash Can. It voids items, fluids and energy, with filters for items and liquids and a limit for energy transfer. It's a shapeless recipe that builds on the basic cans, which is why it comes last.[1][5][7]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: trashcans:ultimate_trash_can

The Ultimate Trash Can also shows up in the pack's quests. a quest in "?" in the Mekanism reactors chapter asks for one.[8]

Tip: There's no limit on how much you can void or how fast, so one can will keep up with even a busy setup.[1]

All four recipes in this pack are the mod's own recipes, so they work the same way as in the standalone mod.[7]

Unverified The mod can void Mekanism nuclear waste, but that's turned off by default and has to be enabled in the config. It isn't confirmed whether this pack enables it, so test with a small amount before you rely on it.

How does Trash Cans work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Trash Cans is a simple mod with one job: getting rid of things you don't want. Each can voids a different resource: items, fluids, or energy. The Ultimate Trash Can can void items, fluids and energy in one block.[1][9]

The cans

Filters and limits

Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted, and you set the filters inside the can's GUI. The energy can's transfer limit is also set in its GUI.[1]

The Ultimate Trash Can combines the other cans' behaviors. It has filters for items and liquids, plus a limit for energy transfer.[1]

Tip: The project page says there is no cap on how much a can can void, or how fast. You can void items, fluids and energy as much and as fast as you want.[1]

Getting items back

If you void something by accident, you can retrieve it. The mod keeps up to the last 6 deleted items.[1]

Crafting

In this pack, the item, fluid and energy cans each use a shaped crafting recipe from the mod. The Ultimate Trash Can uses a shapeless recipe that combines the other cans.[10]

What the sources don't confirm

Unverified The mod's project page says voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default and can be enabled in the config file. The sources here show no config file for Trash Cans in this pack, so whether you can change that setting here is unverified.

How do you progress through Trash Cans?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Trash Cans has a simple two-step progression in this pack: three single-purpose cans first, then one Ultimate Trash Can. The pack's quests follow the same path, and every recipe here is the mod's own, not a pack-modified version.[6][7][8]

Tier 1: the three single-purpose cans

Your first stop is the storage chapter. Quest a quest in "?" asks you to get all three basic cans: the Item Trash Can, the Liquid Trash Can and the Energy Trash Can.[6]

All three are shaped crafting-table recipes, so you can make them as soon as you have the materials, with no machines needed. Check the recipe cards below for the exact layouts.[7]

Tier 2: the Ultimate Trash Can

The top tier is the Ultimate Trash Can. It's a shapeless crafting recipe that builds on all three single-purpose cans, so hold on to the ones you made for the storage quest.[7]

Crafting Shapeless

Recipe id: trashcans:ultimate_trash_can

Needs all three Tier 1 cans.

In the quest book, the Ultimate Trash Can shows up in the mekanism_reactors chapter as quest a quest in "?". That quest comes after another quest in the same chapter, so you'll reach it further along that chapter's path.[8]

Tip: Since the Ultimate Trash Can recipe uses all three basic cans, it's worth finishing the storage quest early. You'll already have every can you need when the reactor chapter asks for the Ultimate one.[6][7][8]

Unverified What each can accepts and how the Ultimate Trash Can behaves in use (for example filters or how it handles items, fluids and energy) isn't confirmed by the pack files available here.

How does Trash Cans work with other mods?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

In this pack, Trash Cans ties into the rest of your modded setup mainly through the questbook. The trash cans show up as quest tasks in two chapters: one about storage and one about Mekanism reactors.[6][8]

Quests that use trash cans

The Ultimate Trash Can combines all three jobs in one block. It voids items, fluids and energy, lets you set filters for items and liquids, and lets you set a limit on energy transfer. The mod also says there's no cap on how much you can void or how fast you can void it.[1]

Mekanism gases and nuclear waste

The fluid version, the Liquid Trash Can, can void gasses as well as liquids, and you can filter what it accepts from inside its GUI.[1]

Trash Cans can also void Mekanism nuclear waste. That feature is turned off by default, and you have to switch it on in the mod's config file.[1]

Unverified It's not confirmed whether this pack turns on nuclear waste voiding. Test it with a small amount before you pipe your reactor's waste into a trash can.

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Trash Cans?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide

Trash Cans appears in two quest chapters in this pack. The basic cans show up in the storage chapter, and the ultimate version appears in the Mekanism reactors chapter.[6][8]

Storage chapter

In the storage chapter, the quest a quest in "?" asks you to get three cans: the Item Trash Can, the Liquid Trash Can and the Energy Trash Can. Together they let you get rid of excess items, fluids and energy.[6]

Mekanism reactors chapter

In the Mekanism reactors chapter, the quest a quest in "?" asks for an Ultimate Trash Can. This quest unlocks only after you finish an earlier quest in that chapter, so you'll reach it as you work through the chapter.[8]

Unverified The sources don't show whether the storage chapter quest has any prerequisites, or whether the two chapters are meant to be done in a particular order.

What changed in Trash Cans between versions?

1 part

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 ships Trash Cans 1.0.18c (the file is trashcans-1.0.18c-neoforge-mc1.21.jar). The pack has included it since version 1.0 or earlier. The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, so the history below comes from the mod's changelog only.[2][11]

Mod releases up to the pack's version

  • 1.0.18: the initial release of Trash Cans for Minecraft 1.21.[11]
  • 1.0.18a: accounts for breaking changes in Mekanism.[11]
  • 1.0.18b: fixes trash cans not connecting to Mekanism gas pipes.[11]
  • 1.0.18c: fixes a crash when breaking a trash can block that uses an enchanted item in its filter.[11]

That last fix is already in the pack, so you don't have to worry about that crash when you break a trash can with an enchanted item set in its filter. The same goes for the gas pipe connection fix.[2][11]
