Trash Cans is a mod in All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.1.0, where it is version 1.1.1. Trash Cans adds trash cans which can be used to void items, liquids, and energy! (Summary from the mod's Modrinth page.)

Stuck? Why it might not be working

  • Game crashes when an accelerated Extended Export Bus feeds a Trash Can
Read from the jars and not run in game: in All the Mods 10 8.2, at the default multiplier, an Extended Export Bus from ExtendedAE asks its neighbour for 8, 64, 256, 512 or 768 items at 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 speed cards, in one go. By the research's inference, ExtendedAE's Precise Export Bus asks for over 99 at 2 or more cards outside pulse mode, and AdvancedAE's ME Advanced IO Bus asks for up to the same amounts. Trash Cans 1.1.0 accepts the whole stack and keeps it in a list it later saves, and Minecraft's save format allows a stack count of 1 to 99 only. A 768 stack throws an error on save, and the game crashes. Do not feed those buses at 2 or more speed cards into a Trash Can. Trash Cans 1.1.1 is reported to fix it. 8.2 ships 1.1.0.

What is Trash Cans?

2 parts

Trash Cans adds a small family of blocks that void things for you: items, fluids (liquids and gasses) and energy. Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted, and for energy you can set a transfer limit. It's a simple way to get rid of stuff you don't want clogging your machines or your pipes.[1]

The four trash cans

  • Item Trash Can: voids items, and you filter them inside its GUI.[1]
  • Fluid Trash Can: voids liquids and gasses, with filters set in its GUI.[1]
  • Energy Trash Can: voids energy, and you set a transfer limit in its GUI.[1]
  • Ultimate Trash Can: voids items, fluids and energy in one block, with item and fluid filters and an energy transfer limit.[1]

Made a mistake? Up to the last 6 deleted items can be retrieved after an accidental deletion. There is also no cap on how much you can void, or how fast.[1]

The mod's own description says voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default and can be switched on in the config file. The sources don't show whether this pack changes that, so check the config before you rely on it.[1]

This pack ships Trash Cans 1.1.0, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[2]

In the quest book

Trash Cans shows up in the "Mekanism: Reactors" chapter, which has 93 quests. The quest is "Toss it!" quest, and it asks you to bring an Ultimate Trash Can. It comes right after the Steam quest, and the quest list shows no group label for it.[3]

The idea behind it: if you don't need the extra energy and want your reactor as safe as possible, just delete the steam. The quest points out that steam is mostly useful for turbines, so if you don't need it, you tube it into an Ultimate Trash Can.[3]

Most of that chapter's quests aren't covered here, so see the quest book itself for what comes after this one.[3]

How do you get started with Trash Cans?

5 parts

Trash Cans adds cans that void things you don't want: items, fluids and gasses, and energy. Each one has its own job, so you only need to make the ones that fit your setup.[1][4]

Step one: the Item Trash Can

Start with the Item Trash Can if your problem is item clutter. It voids items and has a filter for up to 9 items, which can be set as a whitelist or a blacklist. If you delete something by accident, the last 6 deleted items can be retrieved.[1][4][5]

Step two: the Liquid Trash Can

The Liquid Trash Can voids liquids and gasses, and it has a filter for up to 9 fluids. Make it when a machine setup produces a fluid you have no use for.[1][4][5]

Step three: the Energy Trash Can

The Energy Trash Can voids energy, and you can also limit its energy transfer rate. The project page says there is no limit on how much or how fast you can void.[1][4][5]

Step four: the Ultimate Trash Can

The Ultimate Trash Can voids items, fluids and energy in one block. Its recipe is shapeless and uses the other trash cans, so make those first. Crafting it also earns you a mod advancement.[4][5]

Where the quest book uses it

In the "Mekanism: Reactors" quest chapter, the quest "Toss it!" quest asks you to get the Ultimate Trash Can. It comes after the "Steam" quest quest. The quest text says that if you don't need the extra energy from your reactor, you can tube the steam into an Ultimate Trash Can and delete it.[3]

Unverified The mod's project page says voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default and can be enabled in its config file. The sources here include no config file for this mod in the pack, so whether the pack changes that setting is unverified.

How does Trash Cans work?

5 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Trash Cans is a simple mod with one job: getting rid of things you don't want. Each can voids a different resource: items, fluids, or energy. The Ultimate Trash Can can void items, fluids and energy in one block.[1][6]

The cans

Filters and limits

Items and fluids can be whitelisted or blacklisted, and you set the filters inside the can's GUI. The energy can's transfer limit is also set in its GUI.[1]

The Ultimate Trash Can combines the other cans' behaviors. It has filters for items and liquids, plus a limit for energy transfer.[1]

Tip: The project page says there is no cap on how much a can can void, or how fast. You can void items, fluids and energy as much and as fast as you want.[1]

Getting items back

If you void something by accident, you can retrieve it. The mod keeps up to the last 6 deleted items.[1]

Crafting

In this pack, the item, fluid and energy cans each use a shaped crafting recipe from the mod. The Ultimate Trash Can uses a shapeless recipe that combines the other cans.[7]

What the sources don't confirm

Unverified The mod's project page says voiding Mekanism nuclear waste is disabled by default and can be enabled in the config file. The sources here show no config file for Trash Cans in this pack, so whether you can change that setting here is unverified.

How do you progress through Trash Cans?

3 parts

In this pack the Trash Cans come in these versions: Item Trash Can, Liquid Trash Can, Energy Trash Can and the top tier, Ultimate Trash Can. They use the mod's own crafting recipes, and the pack hasn't changed them.[5]

The three base cans

The Item, Liquid and Energy cans are each shaped crafting recipes, so you lay them out in the crafting grid. Here is what the pack uses for each one.[5]

The Ultimate Trash Can

The Ultimate Trash Can is a shapeless recipe, so the layout in the grid doesn't matter. The recipe below shows how the Item, Liquid and Energy cans feed into it.[5]

Where the quest book uses it

The quest book has one quest for this mod: "Toss it!" quest. It sits in the "Mekanism: Reactors" quest chapter, right after the Steam quest, and its task is to have an Ultimate Trash Can.[3]

The idea is simple. If you run your Fission Reactor on Water coolant, you get Steam as a byproduct. That Steam is mostly useful for making energy in a Turbine. If you don't need the energy and just want to play it safe, the quest tells you to tube the Steam into an Ultimate Trash Can and delete it.[3]

Tip: The Steam quest also leads to the turbine quest, so you have two choices once Steam is flowing: turn it into energy or void it with the Ultimate Trash Can.[3]

That is the only Trash Cans quest in the chapter that the sources show. 18 quests in that chapter are not covered here, so check the quest book for the rest.[3]

Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Trash Cans?

3 parts

Trash Cans show up in two quest chapters in this pack: "Basic Storage" and "Mekanism: Reactors". Each chapter has one quest that asks for the mod's items.[3][8]

Basic Storage

The chapter intro quest "Basic Storage" quest says this chapter covers the basic ways to store items without needing power, plus useful items for your storage needs. The chapter has 94 quests in total.[8]

The Trash Cans quest "Trash Cans" quest has the subtitle "Getting Rid of The Excess". It asks you to have Item Trash Can, Liquid Trash Can and Energy Trash Can. The quest says Trash Cans destroy unwanted items, liquid and power.[8]

Most of this chapter's quest text isn't in the material I had, so I can't say what comes right before or after the Trash Cans quest. Check the quest book for that.[8]

Mekanism: Reactors

This chapter has 93 quests. The Trash Cans quest here is "Toss it!" "Toss it!" quest. It asks for the Ultimate Trash Can. The idea is that if you don't need more energy and want your reactor setup as safe as possible, you can just delete the steam by tubing it into the Ultimate Trash Can.[3]

The quest explains that steam is pretty much only used by turbines to make energy, so skipping the turbine and destroying the steam is a valid choice.[3]

Where it sits in the chain

"Toss it!" unlocks after "Steam" quest, which covers the steam you get as a byproduct when water is your coolant. That Steam quest itself comes after "Fission Reactor" quest.[3]

Steam also leads to the turbine quests: "Moving parts" quest, "Making Energy with a Turbine" quest and "Turbine Inputs and Outputs" quest. These three feed into "Turbine" quest. So after the Steam quest you can either build a turbine or take the Trash Can route.[3]

What changed in Trash Cans between versions?

2 parts

All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 ships Trash Cans 1.1.0, and the mod has been in the pack since version 1.0 or earlier. Here is what changed in the mod's own releases up to that version.[2]

Trash Cans 1.1.0 (the version in this pack)

  • New tab on the trash can screen that lets you retrieve up to the last 6 deleted items, handy if you binned something by mistake.[9]
  • New config option to disable retrieving deleted items, if you would rather deletions stay final.[9]
  • Improved item and fluid interaction with other mods.[9]
  • Fixed the targets for dragging items from JEI being offset, and fixed dragging from JEI not working for fluids.[9]
  • Added Japanese and Turkish translations, and updated the Russian translations.[9]

Earlier releases (1.0.18 series)

  • 1.0.18: the initial release of Trash Cans for Minecraft 1.21.[9][10]
  • 1.0.18a: accounted for breaking changes in Mekanism.[9][10]
  • 1.0.18b: fixed trash cans not connecting to Mekanism gas pipes.[9][10]
  • 1.0.18c: fixed a crash when breaking a trash can block that uses an enchanted item in its filter.[9][10]

I don't have any pack changelog entries that mention Trash Cans, so I can't say how the mod changed between individual pack releases.[2]
