What is Pylons?
3 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 4.5 guide
Pylons is a small "just another magic block" mod. Each pylon does one utility job, and none of them is a big progression gate. This pack ships Pylons 5.2.1 for Minecraft 1.21.1, and the mod has been in the pack since version 2.2 or earlier.[1][2]
What the pylons do
- Harvester Pylon: harvests crops in a configurable radius from 3x3 to 9x9 and outputs them to an inventory above it. You place it inside the water block of the farm. By default it needs a hoe in its inventory and uses 1 durability per crop harvested.[1]
- Infusion Pylon: applies effects to you from any distance, though it may require chunkloading. It works with Potion Filters that you activate by right-clicking them while you have the effect.[1]
- Interdiction Pylon: stops all spawns of the mobs you choose within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. Right-click a mob with a Mob Filter, then put the filter in the pylon.[1]
- Expulsion Pylon: made for servers. It expels other players from the chunk it sits in. You can whitelist players with a Player Filter, and OPs are always whitelisted.[1]
Who it is for
If you run a farm, the Harvester Pylon automates it. If you build a mob-free base, the Interdiction Pylon helps. The Infusion Pylon suits anyone who wants a permanent potion effect. The Expulsion Pylon is mostly for server admins and players on multiplayer worlds.[1]
Where it fits in the pack
The pack gives Pylons its own quest chapter. The filters come first: a quest in "?" for the Mob Filter, a quest in "?" for the Potion Filter, a quest in "?" for the Player Filter and a quest in "?" for the Lifeless Filter. The pylon quests come after them: a quest in "?" for the Harvester, a quest in "?" for the Infusion, a quest in "?" for the Expulsion and a quest in "?" for the Interdiction Pylon. Each pylon quest also needs one more quest completed, and a couple of them need a second one as well.[3]
How do you get started with Pylons?
4 parts
The pylons chapter of the quest book has 11 quests. The four pylon quests all come after the a quest in "?" quest, so that is your starting point. After that, I'd work through the pylons in the order below, starting with the one that needs no filter.[4]
Harvester Pylon: automatic farming
Start with the Harvester Pylon. Its recipe is the mod's own, unchanged by the pack, and it needs no filter. In the quest book, a quest in "?" comes after the polished blackstone quest and an untitled checkmark quest.[4][5]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: pylons:harvester_pylon
This is the mod's own recipe, not changed by the pack.
It harvests crops in a radius from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks and outputs them to an inventory above it. Place it inside the water block of your farm, or level with the crops.[6]
Potion Filter and Infusion Pylon: lasting effects
Next, make a Potion Filter (a quest in "?"), then the Infusion Pylon (a quest in "?"). The quest for the pylon comes after both the polished blackstone quest and the Potion Filter quest. The pack changed the Infusion Pylon recipe, so use the one below, not what you remember from other packs.[4][5]

To charge a filter, apply a potion effect to yourself, then right-click with the filter in hand. The minimum duration you can extract is 60 seconds, and a filter needs 3,600 seconds (1 hour) in total to activate. Two filters with the same effect can be combined by holding one in each hand and right-clicking.[6][7]
The pylon chunkloads itself while you are online, limited to one pylon per player (infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads). The pack also denies two effects, absorption and tombstone:ghostly_shape, in infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects.[6][7]
Player Filter and Expulsion Pylon: protect your base
The Expulsion Pylon (a quest in "?") expels other players from a chunk range of 1x1 to 5x5 chunks, so it matters mostly on servers. Its recipe is changed by the pack, and its quest comes after the polished blackstone quest and the Player Filter quest. Craft a Player Filter (a quest in "?") to whitelist friends: right-click a player with the filter to select them. OPs are whitelisted automatically.[1][4][5][6]

In this pack it is only allowed in the Overworld (expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions), and the maximum radius of 2 gives that 5x5 chunk area. Team members are whitelisted automatically when general.teamSupportEnabled is on, which it is here.[6][7]
Interdiction Pylon: save it for last
The Interdiction Pylon (a quest in "?") prevents spawns of specific mobs in a 1x1 to 5x5 chunk range. In the quest book it comes after the polished blackstone quest, a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". The pack changed its recipe too. Right-click a mob with a Mob Filter to select it, then put the filter in the pylon.[1][4][5][6]

How does Pylons work?
6 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10 1.26 guide
Pylons is a small magic-block mod. Each pylon does one job on its own, and you tune it with filter items instead of menus full of settings. The sources describe four pylons, and I'll go through each one, plus the filters that control them.[1][8]
Toggling pylons with redstone
The Expulsion, Harvester, Infusion and Interdiction Pylons can all be toggled automatically with redstone. That makes it easy to switch a protection or a farm on and off from a lever, a button or a more elaborate circuit.[8]
Harvester Pylon
The Harvester Pylon harvests crops in a radius from 3x3 to 9x9 blocks around itself and outputs the drops to an inventory above it. Put a chest or a hopper line directly on top of it and you have a simple automated farm.[1][8]
Place it inside the farm's water block, or level with the crops.[8]
By default the pylon needs a hoe inside it and uses 1 durability per harvest. An unbreakable hoe never wears out, and Unbreaking and other durability enchantments are supported. The mod can also be configured to require power instead of durability.[1][8]
Crafting Shaped
Recipe id: pylons:harvester_pylon
This is the mod's own recipe, unchanged by the pack.
Infusion Pylon
The Infusion Pylon lets you apply potion effects to yourself from any distance, using activated Potion Filter items. By default (configurable) it loads the chunk it sits in while its owner is online, which is how the effects keep working when you are far away.[1][8]
To activate a Potion Filter, first get the effect on yourself, for example from a potion. Then right-click with the filter in hand to extract the effect. This takes all of the remaining duration from you and stores it in the filter.[1][8]
- By default (configurable) the minimum duration you can extract is 60 seconds.[1][8]
- By default (configurable) a filter needs 1 hour of duration to activate. The mod's page equates that to 7.5 vanilla extended potions.[1][8]
- The filter tooltip shows your progress in seconds. Right-clicking with the same effect active adds to that progress.[8]
- If you have duplicate filters with the same effect, hold one in each hand and right-click. The off-hand filter's duration is added to the main-hand filter.[1][8]
- If a tooltip says an effect is disabled in the config, that effect can't be used.[8]

Interdiction Pylon
The Interdiction Pylon prevents natural and forced spawns of the mobs you specify, within a chunk range from 1x1 to 5x5. You choose the mobs with Mob Filter items. Right-click a mob with a filter to select it, then insert the filter into the pylon.[1][8]
The Lifeless Filter works differently. It blocks all mobs instead of chosen ones, but only natural spawns. In exchange it raises the range to 25x25 chunks, and it disables other mob filters in the pylon.[8]

Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon expels other players from the selected chunk range, from 1x1 to 5x5 chunks. It is intended for servers. You can whitelist players with a Player Filter: right-click a player with the filter to select them. The mod's page says OPs are always whitelisted.[1][8]

Clearing filters
The pack has a shapeless recipe for each of the Mob, Player and Potion Filters that takes the filter and returns the same filter. The recipe ids are named clear recipes, which suggests they wipe a filter's stored selection, but the sources don't spell out exactly what is cleared.[9]
Unverified The values above marked as default or configurable (hoe durability use, the power option, chunk loading, the 60-second minimum and the 1-hour activation) come from the mod's own descriptions. No config files for this mod were available, so the pack's actual settings could not be confirmed. The power cost for the Harvester Pylon's power mode is also not given in the sources.
How do you progress through Pylons?
5 parts
The pack has a "pylons" quest chapter with 11 quests. Four of them are for pylons, and the rest are for filters, a polished blackstone quest and two untitled quests. Here is the order the quest book sets, with the in-pack recipe for each step.[4]
Everything starts with a quest in "?", which asks you to get polished blackstone. All four pylon quests come after it, so treat it as the entry point for the chapter.[4]
Harvester Pylon
The Harvester Pylon quest comes after the polished blackstone quest and one of the untitled quests in the chapter. It needs no filter quest first. The pack leaves this recipe as the mod made it.[4][5]
Crafting Shaped

Infusion Pylon
The Infusion Pylon quest comes after the polished blackstone quest and the a quest in "?" quest, so you make a Potion Filter first. The pylon recipe is changed by the pack, and the filter recipe is the mod's own.[4][5]

Expulsion Pylon
The Expulsion Pylon quest comes after the polished blackstone quest and the a quest in "?" quest, so you need a Player Filter first. Again, the pylon recipe is changed by the pack and the filter recipe is the mod's own.[4][5]

Interdiction Pylon
This is the last step, and the only one that asks for two filters. The Interdiction Pylon quest comes after the polished blackstone quest, a quest in "?" and a quest in "?". That means a Mob Filter and a Lifeless Filter before the pylon. The pylon recipe is changed by the pack, and both filter recipes are the mod's own.[4][5]

Clearing filters
The mob, player and potion filters each have a shapeless "clear" recipe that takes one of that filter and gives one back. The Lifeless Filter has no such recipe in the pack.[5]
Which All the Mods 10: To the Sky quests use Pylons?
2 parts
Everything for this mod lives in one quest chapter called "pylons", which has 11 quests. Most of it is about handing in items.[4]
The starting quests
Several quests have no prerequisite listed in the book, so you can open them straight away. Four of them ask for a filter: a quest in "?" wants a Mob Filter, a quest in "?" wants a Potion Filter, a quest in "?" wants a Player Filter and a quest in "?" wants a Lifeless Filter.[4]
The rest of the open quests are a quest in "?", which asks for polished blackstone, plus two untitled ones. a quest in "?" has an item task, and a quest in "?" has checkmark tasks instead of an item to hand in.[4]
The pylon quests
Each pylon quest asks you to hand in the pylon itself, and every one of them comes after the polished blackstone quest. On top of that, each has its own prerequisites, listed below.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for a Harvester Pylon. It comes after the polished blackstone quest and an untitled quest in the chapter.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for an Infusion Pylon. It comes after the polished blackstone quest and the Potion Filter quest.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for an Expulsion Pylon. It comes after the polished blackstone quest and the Player Filter quest.[4]
- a quest in "?" asks for an Interdiction Pylon. It comes after the polished blackstone quest, the Mob Filter quest and the Lifeless Filter quest.[4]
Which Pylons config options matter?
4 parts
Same as in the All the Mods 10: To the Sky 2.0.4 guide
Pylons has a lot of config options, but only a few change how the pack plays. All of them live in the server config file. Only one value in it is flagged as changed from the mod default, so I'll start there.[10]
The one change from the mod default
The pack sets harvester_pylon.harvesterWorkDelay to 20 ticks. The mod default is 60, and the allowed range is 10 to 120. Since this is the delay between harvest attempts, the Harvester Pylon tries to harvest more often than it would in the standalone mod.[10]
The file doesn't list a mod default for a few other options, so I can't say whether the pack changed them. I've described those below simply as what they are set to. Every option that does list a mod default matches it, apart from the harvester delay.[10]
Harvester Pylon
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresTool is true, so the harvester needs a hoe and uses 1 durability per harvest action.[10]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterRequiresPower is false. If you turned it on, the tool requirement would be disabled and each block harvested would cost RF instead.[10]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterCanBeAutomated is true, so you can pipe tools in. By default, full automation needs unbreakable tools.[10]
- harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerCost is 5 RF per block and harvester_pylon.harvesterPowerBuffer is 1,000, both matching the mod default. They only matter if power usage is enabled.[10]
Infusion Pylon
- infusion_pylon.infusionRequiredDuration is 3,600 seconds, or 1 hour, which equals 7.5 vanilla extended potions. That's the total duration a Potion Filter needs before you can use it.[1][10]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMinimumDuration is 60 seconds. This is the shortest effect duration you can use for Potion Filters, and it stops unintended interactions with other mods that add persistent low-duration potion effects.[10]
- infusion_pylon.infusionMaximumPotency is 3. The value is 0-indexed, so a Resistance V potion would be potency 4, which is above this cap.[10]
- infusion_pylon.infusionAppliedDuration is 20 seconds. That's the maximum duration applied to you, and it is refreshed every 60 ticks.[10]
- infusion_pylon.infusionDeniedEffects blocks minecraft:absorption and tombstone:ghostly_shape. The pack leaves infusion_pylon.infusionAllowedEffects empty, so every other effect is allowed.[10]
- infusion_pylon.infusionChunkloads is true, so the pylon chunkloads itself. This is limited to one pylon per player, and only while that player is online.[10]
Expulsion Pylon and teams
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionAllowedDimensions is set to the Overworld only, so the Expulsion Pylon won't work in other dimensions.[10]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonCanExplode is false, so explosions can't destroy it.[10]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionPylonMaxRadius is 2, which is also the maximum the range allows. The center chunk isn't counted, so a radius of 2 covers a 5x5 chunk area.[10]
- expulsion_pylon.expulsionWorldSpawnRadius is 1, the mod default. It only takes effect if it is larger than the world spawn radius.[10]
- general.teamSupportEnabled is true, so team support is active if a compatible mod such as FTB Teams or Argonauts is installed.[10]
What changed in Pylons between versions?
There isn't much version history to report for Pylons in this pack. All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0.2 ships Pylons 5.2.1, and the mod has been in the pack since 1.0 or earlier.[11]
The one change in the Pylons 5.2.1 changelog is a fix for a crash on dedicated servers. If you run a server for your friends, that's the one that matters to you.[12]
The pack's own changelogs have no entries for this mod, so nothing is recorded about changes Pylons has had between pack releases.[11]
