What is Nullscape?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Nullscape reworks the End into a vast, alien dimension with some of the most surreal terrain around. It adds a couple of new biomes, but it keeps the End barren and bleak. The idea is that you feel tiny and alone against the void.[1]

This pack ships Nullscape 1.2.14.[2]

What you'll see in the End

The mod raises the End's height to 384 blocks and uses modern worldgen to make the terrain much more varied. You'll find shattered islands, floating valleys and crystallized peaks. On very large scales, different regions of the End also have different feels, such as sponge-like porous terrain, stretched alien landscapes and stacked rounded islands. The further you travel, the more new terrain you'll find.[1]

Who it's for

It's for you if you like exploring and want the End to feel like a real expedition instead of a quick stop. It changes the world you travel through rather than adding a new tech or progression system.[1]

Watch out: Don't add Nullscape to an End you've already generated. Reset it first, or start a new world. The mod is also not compatible with most other End worldgen projects, with Better End as the exception.[1]

Where it fits in progression

Unverified No quests in this pack involve Nullscape, and it is not on the ATM Star path. The sources don't describe any progression gating for it, so treat it as an exploration upgrade to the End rather than a required step.

How do you get started with Nullscape?

2 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.1 guide

Nullscape is a world generation mod, so your first steps with it are about exploring the End rather than crafting. It transforms the vanilla End into an alien dimension with surreal terrain and a couple of new biomes, while keeping the End desolate.[1]

Before you head to the End

  1. Use a fresh world, or reset your End first. The mod's notes say not to add it to an existing End, so an End you have already generated won't give you the new terrain.[1]
  2. Don't mix it with other End worldgen mods. The mod is not compatible with the majority of them, and the only exception its page names is Better End.[1]
  3. Optionally, look at your seed in the Minecraft Datapack Map. The mod's page recommends it for viewing the structures and biomes per seed, which helps you plan where to go.[1]

What to expect when you arrive

The mod raises the End's height to 384 blocks and uses 1.18's modern worldgen features for varied terrain. You can find shattered islands, floating valleys and crystallized peaks.[1]

Different regions of the End, on very large scales, have different properties. That means sponge-like porous terrain, stretched alien landscapes and stacked rounded islands. The further you travel, the more new shapes you'll see.[1]

Unverified This pack has no quests for Nullscape and no recipes that produce its items, so there is no confirmed list of items to craft first. How the pack sets up the End for you (for example, whether it needs a reset) is also not confirmed here, so follow the notes above if your End was already generated.

How does Nullscape work?

4 parts

Nullscape doesn't add machines, multiblocks or power systems that the sources describe. It's a world generation mod that rebuilds the End. The sources for this pack only cover terrain, biomes and carvers, so that's what this section covers.[1]

What it changes in the End

Nullscape turns the vanilla End into a much stranger place. It raises the End's height to 384 blocks and generates varied terrain such as shattered islands, floating valleys and crystallized peaks. On very large scales, different regions of the End have different properties, so you can run into porous sponge-like terrain, stretched alien landscapes or stacked rounded islands.[1]

Watch out: Don't add Nullscape to an existing End. The mod says to reset yours first or use a new world. It also says it isn't compatible with most other End worldgen projects, with Better End as the exception.[1]

Biomes

Three biome files are available for this guide: crystal peaks, shadowlands and void barrens. All three have a sky color of 0, the same fog color, and no precipitation. In all three, the only mob in the monster spawn list is the enderman (weight 10, groups of 4), apart from the shadowlands, which adds phantoms.[3][4][5]

  • Crystal peaks: its ambient loop is the soul sand valley sound, with amethyst block chimes as an additions sound (tick chance 0.004). A falling obsidian tear particle appears with probability 0.01. The biome lists the feature nullscape:crystal/crystal, which matches the crystallized peaks the mod advertises.[1][3]
  • Shadowlands: the hottest of the three, with a temperature of 2 and no rainfall. Ash particles fall with probability 0.08. Besides endermen, phantoms spawn here (weight 5, one at a time). Its features include shadow cuts, blackstone, basalt, bone trees, drooping formations, pillars and vegetation.[4]
  • Void barrens: the sparse one. It has no ambient loop or particles, only a cave mood sound, and its only listed feature is the end gateway return.[5]

The three biome files also share the end_gateway_return feature, though in different feature stages.[3][4][5]

Carvers

Much of the shattered, cracked look comes from carvers. The ones available here are all of the canyon type, and all replace blocks from the overworld carver replaceables tag. Their main differences are how often they run and the height range they cut through.[6][7][8][9][10][11]

  • canyon: probability 0.02, cutting between absolute heights 20 and 67.[6]
  • rift: probability 0.1, running from 14 blocks above the bottom to 14 blocks below the top of the world. It's a very stretched carver, with a vertical scale between 4.5 and 5.5.[7]
  • shatter: a very common carver (probability 0.85), cutting from 40 above the bottom up to height 120.[9]
  • shatter_huge: the same height range as shatter, but with a probability of only 0.01. Its thickness is between 6 and 12, so these are rare, much larger cuts.[8]
  • shatter1: probability 0.5, spread from 20 above the bottom to 20 below the top, with a vertical scale between 2 and 12.[10]
  • strip: probability 0.15, with a height range from -74 to 160.[11]

Other carver files, such as strip2, strip3 and strip4, exist in the mod, along with many more worldgen files that aren't covered here, so this isn't the complete picture of the terrain.[1]

Plants

The mod includes a configured feature called chorus_light, which is a plain chorus plant feature with an empty config.[12]

How do you progress through Nullscape?

3 parts

Same as in the All the Mods 10 8.2 guide

There is no tier ladder to climb for this mod in the pack, so this section is short. What the mod's own data does show is the biomes Crystal Peaks, Shadowlands and Void Barrens, and what to expect from each one.[13][14][15]

Crystal Peaks

Crystal Peaks has no precipitation. Its only monster spawn is the enderman, with a weight of 10 and groups of exactly 4. Its feature list includes nullscape:crystal/crystal, which is what generates the crystal formations.[13]

Shadowlands

Shadowlands has the busiest monster list of the biomes covered here. Endermen spawn here with a weight of 10 and groups of 4, and phantoms also spawn with a weight of 5, one at a time. The biome has a temperature of 2 and no rain, and ash particles fall in it.[14]

Its generation includes blackstone, basalt, bone trees, drooping features, pillars, vegetation and coral pillars.[14]

Void Barrens

Void Barrens is the plainest biome. It has the same enderman spawn as Crystal Peaks (weight 10, groups of 4) and no creature spawns. Its only listed feature is the end gateway return.[15]

Tip: Endermen spawn in groups of 4 in all of these biomes, so avoid meeting their gaze while you explore. Shadowlands adds phantoms on top of that.[13][14][15]

What changed in Nullscape between versions?

1 part

Nullscape has been in the pack since All the Mods 10: To the Sky 1.0 or earlier. Version 2.0.6 ships with Nullscape 1.2.14.[16]

Mod releases

  • Nullscape 1.2.12: supports Minecraft 1.21.6.[17]
  • Nullscape 1.2.14: updated to support Minecraft 1.21.9 and 1.21.10. This is the version in the pack right now.[16][18]

Both changelogs only talk about Minecraft version support. They don't mention any changes to gameplay.[17][18]

Unverified No pack changelog entries for Nullscape were available, so any pack-specific changes to the mod across releases are unconfirmed.

Items and blocks

We can't match this mod to the pack's item list: it registers as nullscape, and the pack's recipe dump has nothing under that name. That means we found nothing, not that the mod adds nothing. Search the item browser
